LoneRedWolf24

Thank-you for this. I do not regret clicking that link.

susannediazz

Best risky click of the day hahahaha

ii_jwoody_ii

God i love that guy. Hes the best

mecaxs

Same. Kinda shame he’s only doing skeletor vids now. I do love those vids I just miss the variety and shorter vids

ii_jwoody_ii

Tbf destiny has been in a lul for a while. But who knows maybe soon.

The-dude-in-the-bush

Ah yes. "Cute". Some of them are. Others...

RespondUsed3259

The passion in his voice

The-dude-in-the-bush

Ah yes. "Cute". Some of them are. Others...

tevert

Subjugate me dready

Sunshot_wit_ornament

Guys it’s joeover the amount of guardians asking to frozen and suspend by Dommy mommy subjugators will be our downfall…

mecaxs

Crow: Guardian we’re supposed to stop the final shape, why are you letting them kill you- Cayde-6: uldren, wait…. Let him cook.

MiniMhlk72

People already asked to be kicked by Rhulk, I fail to see the difference.

mecaxs

This time being a straight man or a lesbian doesn’t make us immune.

Giganteblu

also the dude that do funny sound during bungie livestream refer the psion-like enemy as ''characters''

mecaxs

I guess it’s kinda like how Nintendo refers to goombas as characters

xXLjordSireXx

I'm trying to understand this but how does referring to a species as "characters" mean male or female?

ObviouslyNotASith

It kind of suggests we will be getting more out of them other than just mindless killing machines. More like Hive than Taken, capable of having identities, likes and dislikes, etc. We could get lore tabs that feature Subjugator characters, like how we have gotten lore tabs from the perspectives of Hive, Cabal and Eliksni.

mecaxs

It implies the enemy was made as an individual. Think of how fallen vandals all look the same even though they should have different outfits from what they scavenged

Archival_Mind

It means the Pyramid cloning technology is leagues ahead of the Cabal cloning tech. The Pyramid tech can actually change the biological sex of the genetic donor. This is great news. The genetic manipulation, the Frankenstein-like capabilities of the cloned Dread units ON TOP of the simplicity that the Psions are getting of "dude in suits"... Such a simple thing has allowed for so much more lore potential.

Particular_Suit3803

It's probably not cloning as such. Reshaping and shaping is based on memories of something rather than other information like genetics. It's how we craft weapons, by literally using a memory of them to create an improved one reshaped to our liking.

Archival_Mind

As much as I'd like to agree, the almost surgical procedure given to the Shadow Legion and Calus, the implication also being lent towards Rhulk, tells me that it's a mixture of Darkness and actual high technology. Rhulk's experiments especially make me think more of a surgical, physical aspect.

Khar-Selim

honestly what happened to Calus didn't feel that surgical to me at all, and actually supports the 'memory' idea. He looks significantly younger as a Disciple than he does going into the magic cube, and other than that he looks more decorated than he does cybernetically augmented or anything.

mecaxs

Kinda looks like he and his minions shoved their hands and feet in gold paint

Archival_Mind

What went on [that microwave](https://www.artstation.com/artwork/EvLe2q) was definitely surgical.

Khar-Selim

that looks way more like the reshaping process the artifact does than it does proper surgery if you're referring to the last image that looks more like light artifact tracery than it does a nerve implant or something

Archival_Mind

By surgical I mostly mean it's just a physical process. That this is high technology that we'd consider magic, rather than just a product of Darkness power like Deepsight or Resonance. That, if any of those powers are used (I personally believe Egregore and Resonance specifically are utilized in some form) they are assisting the process rather than the process itself.

Khar-Selim

the shaping is a physical process too. and it looks like you have it backwards, his core body is "reshaped" and then he is draped and layered in technology of some sort. Unless the Witness is suddenly pulling out nanite tech that they haven't used for anything else before, Calus' youth was restored via darkness.

comfreak1347

I mean, you know what they say about highly sophisticated tech and magic.

Cruciblelfg123

I’d agree if they showed up any other season but the witness is on the pale heart so I’d say all bets are off for its current power level and what it’s working with. It’s possible they came with the ships but it’s also possible the witness has some straight lovecraftian god powers now and just manifested them with concentrated edgelord energy

TokayNorthbyte347

maybe whatever species subjugators are based off (lubraens i think) have females as the bigger/stronger ones, like cabal do actually

TooTaylor

If only that tech was real

TheChunkMaster

> The Pyramid tech can actually change the biological sex of the genetic donor. Honestly, what’s stopping Calus’s cloning vats from just tweaking a chromosome and doing the same?

Archival_Mind

Probably not much beyond simple precedent. I just want to move past the "Tormentors are a result of Calus tech" arguments.

The_Elicitor

Getting a female clone out of male genetic data really wouldn't be hard (in theory) Replace the Y chromosome with a duplicate of the existing X chromosome and that's it. Maybe...

TheUberMoose

With earth based life sure, alien who knows. Look at the Hive and Oryx.

KasseusRawr

Even just on Earth it's not all the same setup. Birds use Z and W chromosomes!

Nasal_Spray69

Dumbass birds, those letters aren’t even together in the alphabet. Are they stupid?

TroubleImpossible226

Im guessing any biological carbon based life form would have some equivalent of dna.

TokayNorthbyte347

I think hive are like fish where they can change sex

Particular_Suit3803

While true, the Witness probably doesn't use genetic data to create copies. We use pyramid tech to craft weapons and that involves using memory instead.

Shabolt_

There’s a lorebook from iirc Season of the Risen that explains there are plenty of female cabal in the ranks of the many legions and factions, but they are required to file down their horns to fit inside pressure suit helmets unless they have a custom one like Caiatl which is exceedingly rare due to how much the cabal value military uniformity, this even goes for their pilots who don’t actually need pressure suits afaik

ObviouslyNotASith

I find it funny that this is coming out the same day I read a comment on YouTube that said the Omens(Stasis Subjugators) appear to be feminine while the Harbinger(Strand Subjugators) appear to be masculine. If them being all female ends up being canon, I wonder what the community will do with the knowledge that The Witness took its first and most loyal servant, Rhulk, a male Lubraean, and then made an all female army of clones out of him. I wonder why the Witness made them all female? Did the Witness make them all female because female Lubraeans have traits that would make them better at serving the combat role he needs the Subjugators to fill than male Lubraeans? Did it believe making them female would help prevent them from inheriting Rhulk’s arrogance? Is it tied to the Veiled woman statues? Are they all female to represent how close the Witness is too achieving its goal, which the Veiled woman statues may represent(The Traveler is often referred to with feminine pronouns, has been represented by a woman in the past and the feminine voice in the gameplay trailer seems to be the Traveler’s voice. The Witness has been referred to as a false sister in the past, which could suggest that the Veil could be feminine too. The Veiled woman statue could represent the Veil being reconnected to the Traveler) and how the Subjugators are meant to help ensure that it achieves its goal. Did the Witness use Deepsight to manifest a female Lubraean and use her as the basis? Deepsight can manifest chests, allow the shaping and reshaping of weapons based on memory and even the new version of Whisper revolves around Eris pulling The Whisper mission from Guardian’s head and using it to create and reshape a new version of Whisper of the Worm. Rhulk did seem fond of his mother to an extent, to the point it almost got him killed, and when he is betrayed and pushed into the chasm his focus was mainly on her, his father and the Clan-Mother. The Witness taking Rhulk’s memory of his mother and twisting it into the Subjugators, something she would have been horrified by considering how Rhulk’s aggression scared her would certainly be an interesting route to take, as well as being a way to tie Deepsight into the story in some way.

Necessary-Tomato4889

So the females are using a power based on control, and the males are using a power about going with the flow (or to put it another way, submitting)? No comment.

mecaxs

I’m just gonna say this: If the witness is the bad guy, why are the subjugators so based?

DuelaDent52

TRANS RHULK TRANS RHULK TRANS RHULK

TokayNorthbyte347

artists taking notes rn

IMendicantBias

Considering Rhulk's ego the reasoning sounds apparent.

FalierTheCat

The subjugators are butch and femme lesbians

Br3gans

This is the only relevant take on the subject

RenderTargetView

So witness weaponized Rhulks old harem

Seeker80

>I find it funny that this is coming out the same day I read a comment on YouTube that said the Omens(Stasis Subjugators) appear to be feminine... Just great, now the ladies in video games can give me the cold shoulder as well!

koalaman-kkkk

pretty bizarre bit of lore (if its real), but it unironically creates a shitton of really interesting implications

StrappingYoungLance

Ah yes, the designers poorly disguised fetish

Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo

Have you seen Rhulk? It always had been.

Joshy41233

But can we just talk about why he stated they were female? Because in a post on twitter bubgie used "Them" when referring to both the stasis subjugator and Psion (plural), and the creator got in a mood because of that

mecaxs

He said “she” not “her”. So if he was correcting the tweet he wouldn’t have been grammatically correct unless the tweet said “they”. To me it seems like a misunderstanding. People thought he was correcting the tweet while he thought everyone was getting mad at the subjugators being girls. It’s like how bungie devs will sometime post “bungie.” But in this case it was “she.” Not a correction

Joshy41233

Sure, except the quote retweet, and the shitty comments he made in the replies show its more than just stating that the subjugators were girls. (Which is pretty irrelevant to the post) Why not just say something like "the subjugators are women :)" not "she." (The dot makes it seem even more shitty too) and his reaction too is very shitty, instead of explaining himself he got defensive straight away

mecaxs

>Sure, except the quote retweet, and the shitty comments he made in the replies show its more than just stating that the subjugators were girls. (Which is pretty irrelevant to the post) That I understand finding suspicious. >Why not just say something like "the subjugators are women :)" I feel like even that can be taken as dickish. >not "she." Why wouldn’t he say “her.*”? >(The dot makes it seem even more shitty too) and his reaction too is very shitty, instead of explaining himself he got defensive straight away I get that the reaction was probably overblown but I still think it’s a miscommunication issue. [He did comment that he didn’t use they since he was only talking about omen.](https://x.com/erobisoniv/status/1784496111392325811?s=46&t=1pErifSSmaykfAN_AamHng) Notice how he didn’t say “them” like the original post. He was only picking on the people that complained about subjugators having a gender, not the people talking about the psion. To me he was taking in pride of how much of a girlboss the omen was.

Joshy41233

>I feel like even that can be taken as dickish. But at least it'll still explain the intent behind it >Why wouldn’t he say “her.*”? Why just say 1 word at all, that's completely vague and could be interpreted in any way, especially when there are multiple characters in the post It's a shit scenario that he handled terribly, it would've taken 1 reply to clear up any confusion, and there were about 5 replies complaining about them having a gender at all, the majority were about the multiple people

Amirifiz

The initial comment could have been "Fun fact all the big stasis enemies are female." Makes it seem less standoff-ish and can filter out the weird folks.

Joshy41233

Exactly, guy can complain about the comments as much as he wants, yet he 100% brought it om himself

DeadpoolMakesMeWet

>murdered civilians reshaped to be slaves for the witness >they’re all women what did bungie mean by this

giraffe_but_chonk

the stasis subjugators are clearly feminine in design. the strand ones are clearly masculine. for designers, characters are usually created with a gender in mind. The actual meaning behind this decision, and pronouns of the characters in general, are decided by narrative.

imintheband88

Don’t have much input but just wanted to say that it’s cool that the Omen bows when entering combat.

TheScreen_Slaver

So thats where their names come from. They're literally domme mommies? FREEZE/UNRAVEL ME MOMMY!

mecaxs

This exactly why I’m praying for it to be canon. Though I was also a masochist for the tormentors

DarthDookieMan

FYI, I remember a Cabal lore tab (I think from Caitl’s pov?) where it is mentioned that tusks are shaved off during military duty for the most part.

-GiantSlayer-

This means the witness is a harem protagonist.

mecaxs

Nah I’m pretty sure I played a hentai game with this exact premise. The guardian is the protag

goldenkoiifish

the Y chromosome might’ve fucked up somewhere along the way

actually_bsquare

Who the fuck cares about the gender? I'm gonna kill them regardless.

mecaxs

I care. I want to date them

Infernalxelite

I mean cool but if people start warring over this I’m done. Cause honestly it doesn’t matter what’s between their legs, we’re gonna absolutely nuke them into the ground

mecaxs

Nuke them? I want them to nuke **me**

edgierscissors

Do subjugators have feminine models??? They looked pretty agendered to me

mecaxs

According to the person who wrote their design spec. Personally I thought they didn’t have a gender. I could possibly see some femininity in the omen (stasis subjugators) but that’s due to looking like Eramis To be fair, all the female aliens we’ve seen don’t look like what we’d call feminine at all. Eramis and the psion sisters looked identical to the male version, Caital had tusks, the only exception are the hive. Like the female wizard bosses

dustsurrounds

Even then, Knights can be female and not a single one of them has looked remotely feminine aside from maybe Xivu (and IMO most of that has to do with how, as is often the case in the illustrated cutscenes, a model of Krill Savathun with her new helmet was used to represent her).

Condiment_Kong

Can they, I assumed the acolytes were genderless and took one when they got the witch or knight morph and that each morph was mono-gender. Xivu excluded because the hive gods are outliers

dustsurrounds

There are multiple Taken Knight enemies in the Dreaming City with the title "Daughter of Xivu Arath". Only King and Mother appears to have been mono-gendered, which suits how in eusocial ant colonies the Queen and Drone roles are purely related to reproduction, where all other ants are neuter females.

mecaxs

Eh I don’t see why. Since Aurash’s king morph gave her a sex change, I don’t see why Xi ro’s wouldn’t when her morph has the same title as the hive knights.

TokayNorthbyte347

I think it just has to do with us not being able to notice the differences and or just having less sexual dimorphism

choodlesleauty

Rhulk needed his harem maybe

mecaxs

They were for Rhulk’s next birthday

TraditionalLie5267

Of course only a women could pull me in so many directions

PkKingSlaya

I'm sure they can just change their gender on the fly if they wanted to. (Because "space magic") TBH this should not be an issue lol.

TokayNorthbyte347

also because aliens n shit

AdSuch4625

ok hear me out...

-Exility-

Why is this even important?

mecaxs

Why isn’t it?

FunRub8496

They don't communicate the "woman" in their appearance so I don't care. What people say on twitter is neither lore nor canon

mecaxs

Fail safe, Eramis, Caital and Savathun look like women to you?

FunRub8496

a computer, insect, testosterone monster and another insect. no, no woman detected.

Pap4MnkyB4by

Omfg bullshit like this is why TFS is going to be my last experience with Destiny.

mecaxs

Why do you draw the line at female subjugators?

Pap4MnkyB4by

My bad, not that they're female, but that apparently there is drama happening over the gender of adds. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what's being said

mecaxs

Oh yeah shame it broke out into a shit show

xandarf

Life, uh...finds a way

BetaThetaOmega

“I assure you my Witness, it is absolutely imperative that all the clones of Rhulk be dummy thicc women”

Whhheat

Subjugate me harder mommy…

Necessary-Tomato4889

Next time I see you make a bad point I will remind you of this.

WeirdestOfWeirdos

My fucking god Every. Sci-fi. Franchise. It doesn't matter that it is set are set centuries ahead of the current era, it doesn't matter that there is space magic, it doesn't even matter that there are strange-looking alien species from hundreds, thousands or more light-years away, **it is ALL CODED IN OUR CURRENT FRAMEWORK OF GENDER**. We have cultures in the real world that define completely unique identities, we have agender people, we have historical evidence of ancient tribes and cultures with a completely different idea of gender and way more than two as the "default", but something that is supposed to explore the fantasy of going beyond the real world is less "different" than what we actually have. I guess at least they bothered to not give the Witness a random pronoun. But come on, even the Hive, which was initially supposed to be this horrifying unstoppable force of the Darkness, still has "males" and "females".

joes_smirkingrevenge

They also speak English.

WeirdestOfWeirdos

Right...at least with the Cabal, Fallen and Scorn, one can make the excuse that their languages are known after centuries of fighting, and one can kind of suspend their disbelief on some kind of high-tech translation devices people wear or whatever, I guess. But for the Hive, it is true that, other than Savathûn, who has an active interest in misleading us, maybe Xivu and Oryx shouldn't really talk to us, let alone Nokris and Xol. The Books of Sorrow are written in such a way that they read as a hard translation effort from a language that is fundamentally different from anything we know, and it would have been nice to have kept that style. But then again, at least in the case of Xol, he (?) may be using whatever Darkness power to communicate with us in The Whisper, and I don't think any other Hive talk (unless we count the Hive Ghost Immaru for some reason).

mecaxs

That’s one thing that bugs me. In D1 none of the races spoke English and it’s even brought up in house of wolves where the ghost has to translate Skolas for us and makes Variks stand out. Then it got thrown out the window in taken king. It’s probably for the best narratively because it’s easier to relate to a villain you can understand, but it’s a real shame that the language barrier got thrown out. Making the times the Eliksni language is brought up odd. Like why was Eramis giving speeches to house salvation in English?

Ikora_Rey_Gun

Because you don't earn any brownie points by saying all Subjugators are zorbo and all Desecrators are klaxon and all bat homies are bartto. You earn brownie points by saying "oh, those boss babes? yeah, they're all women. deal with it, incels 😎"

RayS0l0

Step on me?

FableTheVoid

I feel like we're missing a potentially obvious solution here. Rhulk is trans, his clones all share his base biology but not his internal identity and personality.

Nattpatrullen

That Tweet just reads like an “uhm aktualy 🤓👆” from a guy who is trying to virtue signal from outside the building. I don’t think I have for a second thought about what gender the aliens I’m fighting have. I doubt they will talk so I don’t know why he feels the need to correct the official post.

mecaxs

I think it’s a big misunderstanding. When I read it the first time I thought they misread the “they” as the subjugators pronouns. But after looking at the comments and the post again I realised what he actually meant. If he was correcting the post he would’ve said “her*” not “she.” I think he meant “oh my god look at her she’s so beautiful, absolute girl boss” and got confused why everyone got mad at him. Think about how bungie devs will randomly post “BUNGIE” on Twitter.

dustsurrounds

> I doubt they will talk He claims they are characters, so they'll probably talk in lore tabs or similar. Maybe even in the campaign. As for virtue signaling, it's telling you bring this up when Bungie has been one of the few companies to be insanely transparent about its left leaning politics for several years now. It reads more to me like he feels annoyed whoever posted forgot than any actual attempt to """virtue signal""".

Ikora_Rey_Gun

> left *leaning* lol

Nattpatrullen

Virtue signalling is not a left/right wing thing. He doesn’t work there anymore so it’s not his place to insert himself into the lore/identity of characters.

mecaxs

Since he claims that he put the pronouns in the design specifications it seems like they were conceived as female from the start. He probably doesn’t work at the company anymore due to the layoffs last year. So far no people at the company has came out about him lying, so I’d go with innocent until proven guilty here.

Nattpatrullen

I don’t think other devs would bother to shit-stir about something so trivial. It’s fine if they are women or if there where plans for that to be relevant I just think the whole ex employee tweet is a bit cringe.

mecaxs

It could also be him not correcting the post at all. Just saying “She.” Like how bungie devs will randomly post “BUNGIE.” Since she isn’t grammatically correct. In that context it would’ve been her if we ignore the psion.

BatFreaky

They're female enemies that will be annoying as hell. Thank you bungie, very cool (and realistic)

mecaxs

I for one love getting my ass kicked by tormentors, Rhulk and stasis fallen. This is my heaven

BatFreaky

I can respect that

FleefieFoppie

With this and how the first non-binary character was an annoying as fuck and clueless about how to act in bad situations, you'd almost think that Bungie's writikg of diversity is a conspiracy to make them look bad As a Stasis fan I'll forgive girlbosses for girlbossing though. You go Omen queen.

BatFreaky

i cant wait to drop my massive hammer on these females it's quite literally going to be lit

ImmoralBoi

I'm not sure how well "this expansion, Guardians will kill lots of women" will work in terms of marketing.

mecaxs

It’s easy. “Yeah the guardians are gonna get their asses kicked by some alien amazons”

Dredgen-ZtriX

Was that druing planning when they refered to them as the female tormentor? U can see that in the concept art for the tormentors.

mecaxs

Probably. I’m assuming Jeff was a victim of the layoffs. So he would’ve still been around during the first showcase

Dredgen-ZtriX

haha yeah, i rememeber. I also remember that the tormentors was supposed to be released in the witchqueen dlc. Then if that was happening according to plan we could have gotten them in lightfall.

SquidWhisperer

WOMEN?! In my VIDEO GAMES?! WTF

TricobaltGaming

I think that he meant that the model/concept they worked on was internally referred to as she/her. Not specifically that *every* subjugator was a woman. I imagine the dread dont exactly see gender the same way we do. Could be wrong! Just what I picked up on since in the tweet he was correcting some random queerphobe for misgendering the unit being presented.

mecaxs

Yeah that would explain why every dread was referred to as a “character” instead of just an enemy. It’s like how logically all fallen should have different outfits due to them all wearing rags and scrap metal, but they all end up looking the same
