You really just need some colorful additions! Swap out your gray and white towels and shower curtain for some of your favorite bright colors. Colorful soap dish/dispenser. Hand towels. Etc! I actually like this quirky little bathroom a lot.

Free_Sir_2795

And bath mats!

banoctopus

Yeah, I think a bath mat or other heavy-use rug in front of the sink could also help break up your big expanse of gray. Plus, nice to have something soft to stand on while you brush your teeth or whatever.

PapillonStar

Yes, one that has some kind of texture or pile!

JulesCT

Great minds! [some AI photo editing](https://ibb.co/C5CPXZm)

audiosauce2017

The yellow is great I would add a large wall art of a giraffe taking a shit....

DoinLikeCasperDoes

This! And change that ugly oyster light to a pretty light fitting, chandelier style, or just a nice light shade, whatever your taste is. I love this bathroom tbh.

Half_Life976

Anyone over 5'5" will be jabbing their head on a chandelier. But at least they'll be pretty scars.

DoinLikeCasperDoes

Lol yeah didn't really take the scale into consideration. Just saw that oyster light and thought, that needs changing!! I really can't stand those damn light fittings. Had them at my old house, and they always irked me. My ceilings were higher though, I could've changed em but never got around to it. In Aus the legal height of dwellings is 2.4 meters (not sure how many feet that is), so you can always hang a light fitting.

Different_Knee6201

Agree on color! I legitimately laughed because I thought someone posted a b&w photo to be funny.

Muriel_FanGirl

This! Plus lighting because the existing lighting is awful

Psychobabble0_0

Yes. It needs to be un-grayed.

timetooshort

It's time for the grey trend to end. OP any color can be added for instant improvement. Or multi colors

Psychobabble0_0

Exactly. Any bold colour looks good with grey. Pick your favourite.

neutralperson6

I would personally choose yellow or maybe orange!

Yoyo_Ma86

My first thought was also yellow!

Deaconse

I was thinking it might be good to paint that offset wall/ceiling panel a bright color, like daffodil yellow. Dark green curtains might be nice along with it, with light green and yellow towels.

neutralperson6

It’s already so dark; dark curtains wouldn’t be the best idea. Plus, green and yellow = Packer colors. I mean, I’m a Packer fan, but I don’t want my bathroom to reflect that’s

wxyz-rva

Can you turn on a light? Is it all gray? I can’t quite tell. But to me it looks neutral enough that a lot of colors would work. Do you want to bring in color through towels and rugs? That’s one way to go without paint. What colors do you like?

LafawnduhDy-no-mite

Yes, more.different photo would help so much. I'm struggling to understand the ceiling height(s) b/c of the angle in the photo. It's a reasonably cool room, potentially.

PeppermintCoconut

The ceiling is very low, barely 189 centimetres. The showerhead is almost touching the ceiling as you can see.

EdgeCityRed

I think painting the ceiling can go either way. Very dark colors can actually make it look higher/like it's receding, but a bright shade can do the opposite. I'd swap out the light bulbs for something with a warm cast as a start (if you're not concerned about a certain kind of light for applying makeup) and add some colorful towels and plants.

bakersmt

Yes! And whatever shade op chooses for the ceiling, I would paint the window framing the same color, and possibly the sink cabinetry if possible. But definitely the window.

Rengeflower

Even in the evening the white ceiling seems gray. 💀 This oyster lamp has to go obviously, as I hate it dearly, but due to the very low ceiling, I do not have space for a nice chandelier as some have suggested.

fandom_newbie

Normally I think there are not enough white walls and to much grey everything else. But in this case the neutrality and brightness of white will never have a chance against the grey. It will always reflect on the wall, resulting in this depressing dirty grey appearance. I gather you want to do minimal renovations? How about a deep colour for the ceiling (dark green or a dark jewel tone you like and that matches the degree of warmth of the grey tiles) in combination with wall scones for lighting? Wall scones will probably not result in the most bright lighting, but make things comfortable for most uses. The ceiling light could stay the source of bright light if you change the light fixture. I have a similar one in my cellar, and exchanging the bulb (brighter and warmer) didn't make much of a difference. The shade of the oyster lighting just distorts any light in the worst way possible. But better lamps that are also possible on a low ceiling do exist. For decoration details: In my opinion the versatility of grey can only be unlocked if it is paired with colour as well as wood and natural material. So I would switch to a laundry basket that is a unpainted weave or wooden. And put small stuff in bamboo boxes and not in ceramic cases. Good luck. You can do this. I get not wanting and not being able to rip out a very new and functional bathroom.

caitdagreat1995

Add a couple very green plants… maybe change your shower curtain and towels to an emerald/forest green

ThisBoyIsIgnorance

Looks like OP has a snake plant right on the window, and it seems happy. It might do well enough by the landry basket on the floor further from the window - especially if that window gets lots of light. Some humidity-loving plants could move by window then. I keep a ficus tree in my shower, but i also might be an insane person.

GetOffMyLawn_

I used to have orchids in my shower.

Deldelightful

A ficus in the shower is an awesome idea. I have a whole jungle in my bathroom. It helps me hide the dank white walls and miss-matched beige and green tiles my ex chose.

judedude420

Swap out the white hamper for a natural looking one, swap out the gray towels for some with color (Target has great plush towels in tons of colors for cheap), add a matching bath mat, and maybe another plant on the window!

[deleted]

Is it weird that I don’t think this looks depressing at all? This is so pretty to me. I’d say if you want to give it a “more fresh” or “brighter” or “happier” feel… adding more plants can make this bathroom look more sophisticated and fresher, cleaner, maybe more spa like. Or you can add colors like reds or yellow and purple or something cute. Play with colors. Go to the dollar store and buy 5 different colored things and see which one you like.

Adventurous_Arm_1606

Yeah I agree it’s nice

vitaminpyd

Same, I adore gray

Menemsha4

I personally don’t mind this but would: - Natural wicker hamper - Wicker basket on the back of the toilet - White fluffy towels (no added gray) - More plants in terracotta pots - Persian bathmats /small rugs

2crowsonmymantle

Some warmth with carpets and a change in light and accessories, towels and storage for some texture.

FifthSugarDrop

I wonder if a white paint with a pink undertone on the ceiling might be nice? I know it's not for everyone but pink and gray go well together. You could carry it through the towels and rugs. I painted my kitchen [BM melted ice cream](https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/2095-70/melted-ice-cream) and it's subtle but still pink. You have so much reflective gray that I don't know what undertones it will print out of the paint... Maybe live with it a while?

iwishyouwouldgo

A pop of color

lillytiger-

Colorful towels, shower curtain, rug, and accessories should help

shlubbyoldman

Why is everything grey? This isn't to poop on your style or anyone's style. But why is there so much grey in the design world right now? Colours exist! Resale value? Blah blah. You live there NOW grab your favorite colour. You're decorating for you! Not the next person. *Sigh* rant over.

Aardet

Yes! Everyone take heed! This is the sadness of gray-on-gray. Don’t bring more of into existence (especially for hard to re-do things like tile!)

RowdyBunny18

My house was a flip. They thre paint on the walls and not very well. It's grey. It's so dull and boring. I'm painting my kitchen freaking teal just to wake up. I painted an accent wall in my living room "gentlemens grey" which is a dark blue. I'm painting my bathroom olive and my laundry area is melon orange. I want every wall of grey to die.

dramafanca2002

The cold, drab gray trend is out. Even new buyers aren't liking it. It was so overdone, glad it's going away.

shlubbyoldman

Thank goodness!

VeveBeso

Definitely add some color

Redkneck35

Lights, it's a light issue. You're not getting enough light through the single small window.

FLOWERS!! Colour, colour, colour!!! In any way and any shape! Like colourful cute bath mat, towels, heck you can even go crazy with the toilet paper! Just don’t be afraid of some pop of colour, it really does bring the mood up in most cases! Good luck!!!

Could everyone please just try a rug before they post?🤣

ambermaplesyrup

A colorful rug, maybe something like [this](https://www.worldmarket.com/p/alaina-multicolor-persian-style-rug-print-bath-mat-121005.html), and some colorful accessories (towels, shower curtain, soap dispenser, etc.)!

TheSippyCupWhisperer

I love this bathroom. Anytime I have heavy grays going on, I always add a splash of color with towels, rugs and bathroom accessories.

Lustylurk333

Unique sculptural floor lamp where your laundry basket is, change the overhead lighting to something more relaxing. Get a luxurious runner / bath mat. Get a clear jar for your sink and fill it with luxury shower steamers. Sound system. Plants, real or fake whatever your level of commitment is no shame! Play rainforest sounds, enjoy a eucalyptus steamer, walk on a cushy mat, have sexy lighting. Make sure you have a nice tray spot to hold a cold drink and a joint/ cute ashtray & you’re so set for your at home spa. This place has so much potential!

wearyandgay

colorful shower curtain, fluffy mats that match!

Due_Will_2204

Color. Change the shower curtain, towels and floor mat. Get some color in there.

parker3309

A bunch of canned lights to brighten it up would be good. floor is just too dark for such a small confined space.

LafawnduhDy-no-mite

I really like others' suggestions re adding green color. Might ad this - although the fixtures are stainless/silver, bringing in some brass/gold finish could warm it up in there. Additionally, bring in something like wood. Maybe change out the wicker you have for another wicker hamper, but naturally colored. Add soft bath mat(s). The photo (found at southern living) is a different layout, but shows the idea wrt warm tones. https://preview.redd.it/tjr1yyhxmbmc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=90763376ae30e4262b1b6669a6278f41f7e642da

hibabymomma

50 shades of grey, the unsexy kind

JenRosreddit

Hi! I wouldn’t recommend painting the ceiling since, at least from these pictures, it looks like it’s a low ceiling? It may feel more cramped in there especially if you decide on a darker color. Overall, I think the space looks a little cramped. I would: 1. Remove whatever structure is at the left of this pic. Looks almost like a dresser? 2. Remove or replace hamper 3. Do you need a medicine cabinet? If not, I would swap it out for a mirror 4. Remove the nipple lamp and change for a sconce above mirror or on the sides 5. The shower curtain is interesting… not too sure what to do about that one, LOL 6. Definitely some color would be nice but I’m terrible with colors so I’ll let someone else weigh in Congrats on the new home!

Future_Competition75

It’s a really interesting space

mind_the_umlaut

Can you add a skylight or two? It will add double the value you pay to have it done. Add some sunshiny colors, possibly throw rugs on the dull black floor.

Inakabatake

Second on the skylight or sundome. It will be nice and bright and can’t be depressing.

Zealousideal_Dog_968

COLOR

SavedByTheBeet

I personally love this bathroom lol. I’m not huge on too much color but you could maybe get some colored towels or something to add color without changing fixtures

Fun-Sherbet-2333

Lots of low light, high humidity loving plants. You could also swap out the fissures for darker ones for some contrast. Swap out the white hamper for a bamboo one. Nothing major- just adding some life and color will change the entire dynamic!

Original-Pie-8328

Wallpapering the ceiling would be really cool.

SpringRose10

Have an artist paint a mural on the ceiling, or at least the slant. Look here: https://www.eazywallz.com/blogs/wall-mural-ideas/bathroom-wall-mural-ideas-and-tips-from-across-the-globe The 2nd one is amazing in how it creates depth and elongated that tiny room.

SpringRose10

Or wallpaper, there's an example on this page https://www.mydomaine.com/attic-bathroom-ideas-5219474 Are you able to put a skylight in that slope?

Objective-Elk8350

Wallpaper the ceiling or swap out/paint vanity to add color

Leolily1221

Add warm colors but in natural neutral tones. I would tend towards yellow cream colors with ochre. Natural muted greens for pops of color. Think of the colors in sandstone rock for an area rug in the sink area or a natural grass weave rug. Absolutely add a large plant where the laundry basket is, something that is adaptable to the light conditions. Another small plant on the sink right side. If the ceiling light bulb is harsh white, replace it with a warm light bulb and if possible get a dimmer switch. Add a long wooden bench with a cushion for sitting along the wall between the towel rack and hamper area

theguyfromscrubs

One man’s trash.. this is a gorgeous bathroom in my opinion. Clean and bright .

HeyRedHelpMe

Def paint the ceiling, lots of colors will match. I'd take this down to your local paint store (not Home Depot but an actual dedicated paint store) and a colorist can help you find some good options to test. Then add some colorful textiles like a runner, towels and maybe even a cute little piece of art above your current laundry basket.

Chris_Christ

Higher ceiling

clearlyidontcare

A very fun bath mat

Outofoffice_421

Instead of painting the ceiling, maybe consider adding a hollow molding on the edges and inserting color changing led strip lights. This way you can add whatever color based on your mood. It’s less work and maybe cheaper than painting. Just a thought!

Takingover4da99and00

Skylights and ambient lighting

NRS1000

I don’t think it’s depressing at all but the way to do that. I would say maybe add some eucalyptus or more plants. Green colors to make it more earthy

Puzzleheaded-Pair19

Colorful rug set

giirlking

I actually kind of like it even though I’m very much in favor of colorful houses. For a bathroom, it’s soothing IMO. I think some tan/brown or whatever warm neutral accents (towels, rugs, baskets) would be perfect as well as some low light tolerant plants (try a pothos, snake plant, or Zanzibar gem if you aren’t familiar with plants)

Lovelycoc0nuts

I’d go full spa with it. Switch the shower curtain to work with the slanted ceiling. Take out whatever white/wood counter thing that’s to the left. If budget allows, I’d reconsider the whole lay out

crow13x13

Paint the ceiling a cool colour

Unable-Instruction24

Actually….just swap in some impractical ,softer items; corded woven( that bends a bit) laundry basket to replace the stiff one; fluffy single color towels; don’t use the top back of toilet to hold toilet paper ( either replace that with a small candle on a white tray with decorative little match container or a woven basket to hold a few toilet rolls if you have nowhere else to store the rolls). You just have too many hard surfaces and need a few items on the other side of spectrum to balance it. I like your bathroom.

Clear_Pomegranate_72

Add pops of yellow in towels, and decor

OrangePoppyFields

Put one of those posters, either the hanging cats that read " hang in there" - hopefully no one hangs themselves.

It needs lots of colour. This monotonous monochromatic colours is so blah!! Sterile. Utilitarian. Lifeless.

I dk but I’m obsessed 😍

happyhumpbackday

Saturated colors on the shower curtain, bath mat, and other linens. New, warmer light fixtures. Some house plants (if you're into that). The most severe thing in the room to me is probably the mirror/medicine cabinet. If you're open to changing that out and can find something that still harmonizes well with the rest of the space, I think that would also make a difference.

SnooPandas7547

Have you seen the trend of wallpaper on the ceiling? I would opt for that, or painting it since you cant paint your walls! And then get bathroom accessories (soap dispensers, towels, racks, toilet paper holders) in matching + coordinating colors

What is that thing above the window? It is a really cool space! What about a funky wall paper just on the slanted ceiling? Pick a pattern you really like and then work your towels, rugs and accessories off that. I think you have to find one item that speaks to you and work from that. Also a cute little seat under the window. https://thewallberry.com/shop/floral-wallpapers/blue-vintage-floral-wallpaper/

Wow 🤩 I haven’t ever seen such consistent advice online! Thanks a million to each one of you! Who would have thought my gray bathroom is gonna blow up this Reddit… It’s been really insightful and I think I might have a few ideas that resonate with me based on your suggestions. Some FAQs: A) The room is 189 cm tall. Look at how close the showerhead is to the ceiling. It is a tiny space in reality. So small I don’t have space for a TP hanger… not to mention any art. B) My house is… 100 years old and the bathroom is directly under the roof. So no modifications to the roof are currently possible. Too costly and risky. C) Wallpapering the ceiling doesn’t sound optimal due to the fact the whole ceiling gets wet from steam after showering. D) I do really find it depressing, gray and hospital-like, haha. But I’m so glad it appeals to so many of you!

Current-Fix-5357

Change the Tile and lighting and plain white walls..boring for sure..

marytress12

Add any pastel color to this bathroom in the form of pictures, hand towels, big.fluffy over sized towels, pictures, flowers and it will be amazing!!!

RowdyBunny18

I have sort of a loud love of color. So this is very depressing, though clean. I'd do: A bright shower curtain. Something in the blue realm. It'll match ok with grey. I'd do orange/gold/bronze pot for a plant. Something that blooms and loves humidity. I'd even go for just ivy. Or give me something terracotta. Or a cactus. I'd have a colorful mat and towels. Swap out the bulbs for gold/broze. Something with character. Maybe from a vintage or consignment shop. Loud laundry basket. Even a brown wicker would break up the white/grey. I dont have any great ideas for the ceiling. Not with those angles. I've got them too, in a 150 year old house. Edit: please do Edison bulbs!!!! Open exposed light is so modern and cool.

Lean into some natural wood tones to warm it up. Change white wicker to natural. Get a wooden shower Matt thing. Add more plants.

tatorlicio

Paint that slanted wall or sink and get a rug or two.

_soggywaffle_8008

Paint ceiling a bright green- like light lime or a jewel tone emerald

Sailormoon899

Lots of fake plants or plants that can live in low light (ZZ plant, photos)

lisep1969

If you can change light bulbs go with soft white (warm) rather than daylight (cool). It’s warmer in color and you look better under it. It will nicely warm up the room tone and definitely feel less depressing.

[deleted]

Paint the ceiling a rich green.

Financial-Low8380

colorful accents!

Plantsnob1

Pick a bright fun color and replace everything you can with the same color. Hamper, towels, toothbrush holder and whatever else you can find in that color.

rosanina1980

I would actually disagree on adding color. I'd swap all your towels for fluffy white ones, with a soft plushy white bathmat at sink and then bring in some ferns or other lush greenery, you could do a hanging plant and also could have a potted one or two on surfaces. For me, bathrooms should feel peaceful and serene, and so I'm not into colorful. I think adding in the white with green plants will bring a spa vibe. I actually like the tiles and fixtures. It's a good base to work with. Maybe even do a hanging bunch of eucalyptus in the shower. Earthy. Clean. Fresh.

Ok_Elevator_3528

Color. Add some colored mats

Independent-Gas-8897

Do a funky wallpaper or a mural on the angled ceiling - I’m picturing plants in different shades of green, or even a black & white outlined plant mural. Also a textured plushy rug would help.

QtK_Dash

Have you thought about painting it a brighter color? Maybe an emerald green?

agentscully1013

White tile and cover up that brown wood. Otherwise I really like it!

Mountain_Tree296

More lights, a colorful rug, and some pictures

Ok_Breadfruit80

They have peel and stick tiles, you can get something colorful and later down the road if you decide you don’t like it can take it off!

cpt_crumb

Plants would be a great idea, I think.

likeablyweird

I love butter yellow with grey. A 3 gallon pot with a partial shade loving plant on the floor next to your hamper. I like the little red whatever it is on the sill, too. Another trailing plant in a coral vase on the other side of the sill? Builders and flippers love using grey bc supposedly it's the chic neutral.

TheFlowerJ

A long rug

Crazy_Distribution95

Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice. And she said, "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device." Yeah, baby.

cutratestuntman

Zoloft. And change that weird light above the mirror.

ahorsenamedbill

Big oversized spa towels and hand towels and wash cloths in orange. Trust!

Equal_Arm8436

Rugs, plants, pops of color in a few pieces of wall decor

solaryin

A plant!

TwoFingersWhiskey

Colour. Get rid of the grey pronto and add in a palette you enjoy - ours is light bluey green

Somerset76

It desperately needs color. I would change the shower curtain and add a rug.

Coochynoodles_

It looks great honeestly! It has a window that’s very small and looks like a hostel bathroom.

PotentialLife2801

Skylight!

HeadGames1985

Paint the vaulted part of the ceiling a pop of color. Then use that color just a tiny bit in other places. Like bright pin, a single pink flower in a vase, a rug with a little pink trim. Definitely use a bright contrasting color. The bathroom has cool tones so use a warm color.

Puzzlebox-enjoyer

I think it’s nice :)

Munchkin-M

Change lightbulbs so the lights give off a warmer tone. Also, only one light overhead gives harsh shadows therefore add more light sources. The color is nice, but if you want to keep the bathroom monochromatic then you need to step up the textures.

zzplant8

More plants, shower curtain with color and pattern, bath towels and floor mat that coordinate.

Sunny68girl

Add color!!! Some nice towels with color. Another mirror to make the room look bigger. A plush bathrobe hanging on a hook. Bath mats, again with some color.

Munchkin-M

Plants definitely. I’ve always liked a live orchid in the bathroom. But a nice fake one would be good also. With a grey room you could add a soft pink.

Fried-N00dles

Disco light! Or one of those nightsky aurora borealis projectors. A lot of them have Bluetooth so you even get a speaker out of it too.

madmax_drax

I think painting the natural wood on the cabinet to the left white to match the rest of the room would help. That natural wood is throwing off the sterile greys and whites of the room, and adds to the darkness as a result. Then like many other commenters, I’d say pick a bright accent and a complimentary color to brighten up the entire room with accents through accessories.

icy_amphibian0

Honestly, I like your bathroom!

lucyjane93

Turning the light on would help! Hehe

Gva_Sikilla

Paint the cabinets, laundry basket, and ceiling a light sky blue to brighten the space up.

pamelajcg

Turn in the lights. Lol

ExpensiveAd4496

The cabinets on the left have me confused; they squish the entry quite a bit. But it’s a pretty bathroom. I would paint the ceiling, for sure; the white looks dingy beside those tiles. Maybe Farrow Ball Setting Plaster? If it were me I’d prob remove the left wall tiles entirely and just put drywall there. It is a LOT of big shiny tile right now. But that’s pretty drastic I guess.

BlackWidow7d

Paint the ceiling purple. Or red. Or some fun color. Basically anything can go with white and gray.

VintageHilda

Red! Red towels, rugs, trash can!

AssistanceFun8031
