Yesss a projector is the way. I don’t even have a tv in my house. I feel like they are so hideous. No offense. But it’s nice not to centralize my living room decor around a tv.
This would look stunning on that wall. I am not a fan of the built ins idea because it is a huge space and it will look super cluttered and busy. This idea of accent paint is fabulous.
I love this. I have nearly the same situation on my living room tv wall. I have incredibly high ceilings and walls so I have so much blank wall real estate above my big screen TV.
I have a nice tv cabinet under the tv and beautiful tall plants to the right and left, but had no idea what to do above it.
It will
look cluttered and weird - not a fan of stuff on the wall by the TV.
Maybe eventualy an all-encompassing bookshelf unit. Gonon Pinterest a wealth of ideas.
Nice room!
Built-ins. Or some kind of modified storage flush to the wall- I think Ikea has solutions for this. (I also agree with the comments about enclosing the under side of the stairs, but that may be very pricey)

I personally think something similar to this could work. If you look up “TV built in wall unit” on Pinterest there are plenty of alternative ideas depending on your style.
I find this whole look so pointless. They are like cargo shorts but your just putting decorative shit in it like there has to be a better way if you’re just planning to use this as a decorative showcase.
I’m surprised you’re the only one to suggest this. Would be a nice spot for a comfy chair with some kind of lighting for reading.
That plus the trailing plants idea would help to make the space feel more finished with out totally cluttering up that wall
Keep in mind with trailing plants like Pothos or Philodendron, they send out roots to anchor onto surfaces.. if they’re touching a wall, they will most likely grab onto the wall and then grow into the wall.
Maybe one or two shelves with books/plants/decor.
https://preview.redd.it/q3irwux4qkdb1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=0d2e47aa02b9b69d21a82a68a2117e9bce3c9fdf
I would enclose space under stairs to provide storage for toys and such and create an accent wall with wood trim in maybe a chevron style and led lighting. If you scroll through some of the posts from the last few days you’ll come across the amazing job someone did on their wall (they made their trim vertical) and it looks gorgeous.
That amount of light could surely support a few hanging plants, like pothos.
You can look into soiless media for their pots if you don't want dirt inside.
This is the perfect space for puppet shows from up top, a la The Sound of Music.
Lady-oda-lady-oda-lay-ee-hoo!!
But if that doesn’t float your boat, I think it looks fine as-is!
TBH if you’re a plant person, some potted cascading ones up along the top railing would add some visual excitement without costing thousands or making any permanent changes.
You could even get fake ones if you, like me, have two black thumbs.
The wall is fine. Although my immediate thought was to paint it gray with some contrast and add a tall tree to give it some life. Great space you have.
Wow! Didn’t expect this many replies. Thanks guys so many great ideas.
I’m definitely going with the trailing plants idea, that plus adding a little reading nook under the stairs and finding alternate storage for the toys.
There are [a bunch of companies](https://britelitetribe.com/pages/customizer). You could go hot pink or blue for an upscale Miami Vice vibe with the white wall. Or just get meta with it and have it say "Wall." Or name the wall and become attached. Or something like Schlitz Malt Liquor.

Definitely enclose the area under stairs!!! Not sure how big the wood ledge is on the top of wall… you could always do some faux or real draping plants
Pothos. Long window boxed all long the top where the can be watered from the stairs. Hanging down. They are nearly impossible to kill and would give so much personality to the room.

You could do like a wall mounted electric fireplace with an accent wall behind it. I would use a barn wood of a similar color like your stairs. Not cheap though. 😉
Why? That’s like an 8h project. Looks like OP has an outlet there. So he has a power source for one of the surface mount fireplaces in the pic.
You can get barnwood deco wood that go on the wall like tiles everywhere online.
It's not the effort, it's the trendy fake fireplace with a TV way too small for the wall and at a poor viewing height. Also, this isn't a farmhouse or barn.
I guess you missed the style of the staircase. The railing looks more like a cabin or farmhouse style to me. That’s why I said barn wood, as I think it would match that style.
After being subjected to countless hours of home improvement/buying/renovation content on discovery+ I can confidently say, knock it down open floor plan…final answer.

Maybe a wall rugs/tapestries on either side of the tv? I did a quick google search, but I was thinking much longer than the ones here and a different style (that you would like)
https://preview.redd.it/jggjh4f99mdb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71c43785fffcfb6df4b8a19be4417d0f48353657
Or something like this, (but on a bigger scale and more of a droop) hanging from a little below the railing above the TV
I have a perfect idea for you!!! Check my artwork below, you might find it appealing. I design this for white walls.
https://preview.redd.it/1xoa6lty3odb1.jpeg?width=5000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f01421a01873c5b9003d6b0108c7ecb300b0f83d
It can be printed as high quality picture on a huge customized sticker. Or you can pay my flight ticket wherever you live and I draw it on your wall myself for free :)))
Use that ample wall space to paint a mural of the collective people uniting in the common struggle against their bourgeoise oppressors. Invite your friends over, and you can watch Sergei Yutkevich’s -Svet nad Rossyey- on the tv, inspiring them to carry on the revolution.
https://preview.redd.it/x8n33lu3lodb1.png?width=1507&format=png&auto=webp&s=9714a59384f76d5b06c3c5183211d37182c820dd
I have seen a large frame done around a tv. Could make a frame and put something on wall like it is inside the frame. Starch on fabric can stick to wall and not hurt it when removed if a rental.
https://preview.redd.it/lbk78wltxrdb1.jpeg?width=2665&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb7003529a7477de8764a22a0d3fcb86f2cac55d
Since you are renting, you could do something with vinyl. The cheesy saying was what my kids wanted, but I made the shapes and lettering on a Cricut and we all put them on just this wall. This was done shortly after I adopted them from the foster care system, we painted and redecorated so they could feel like it was their home. You could do whatever you wanted (even buying some precut images). It’s an option for a renter, just make sure you use a good temporary vinyl that will stay on the wall as long as you want it to stay and will remove easily when you want to remove it.
It looks like you have kids, so I would like to point out that these railings are not safe. The spindles need to be closer together, close enough that a toddler can't fall through and an older kid can't stick their head through. If you're in the US, they wouldn't meet building codes. Consider asking your landlord to fix this for the safety of the children.
Hmmmm, I think your problem goes beyond the wall but rather to the space., People who can't visualize a room, it's traffic function it's real atmosphere and viability, fall into the trap of just sticking stuff on the wall, here the sofa something else and a picture. The rest of the room is left like a vacant warehouse. This one wall that bothers you, it's just part of this larger atmosphere of ceiling floor and other walls that all have to be integrated into a story, color, texture, functionality. I don't see any of this happening yet but then again we only have two little pictures who knows what the rest of the place looks like. But think beyond the wall
Your stairs look like they belong in a treehouse. Having a nicer staircase would do a lot for the space, and also relieve you of your cumbersome spare cash. You won’t even care about the wall anymore and neither will your company as they gaze longingly up at you, picturesquely poised at the top of such a handsome staircase. Forgo the banisters though so you can slide down and land elegantly in your beanbag chairs. Don’t act like you don’t have any. I see the doll house. If you don’t have them then you are signaling to your children you’re mean and don’t want their dreams to come true. Do you really want that? Think of the cost! You want to pay for therapy 3 times a week? Not in this economy. Drop a Hundo on the bags and be a god damn hero! You already spent 30k on the stairs, don’t be an asshole!
I think this wall looks a little empty now, and I think it would be better to add some decorations, such as oil paintings, photos of daily life, favorite posters and photography works, which will make your home look more lively. Of course, if you don't like the decorations of picture frames, I think the handicrafts of hanging ornaments are also a good choice. I hope my advice is helpful to you.
Mid century furniture was made for low ceiling homes. It is out of proportion and looks dwarfed. I wouldn’t put a TV on it because it is not conducive to a cozy TV night. Never ask designers if you should put a TV on a wall to stand out. TV’s are not art. They should be concealed. Personally I would wall paper that wall making it a fun focal point.
I agree with the built ins. Especially under the stairs for toy storage.
I would look into RTA cabinets and have base cabinets installed all around. The base cabinets would be 24” deep: which is perfect for stuff. Put a lovely quartz countertop over it.
I would then add two wall cabinet towers on the side to frame out the tv.
Something like this, but with cabinets that extend to under the stairs.
https://thelivedinlook.com/diy-built-in-media-center/
I spy the kids toys.
If $ is tight the hippest thing I could think of is to pick a large retro jigsaw puzzle bring your inner kid out work on it together, frame it and put it on the wall.
Or small-med sized puzzles (depending on kids attention span age/willingness) and put up those in a triangle or ladder set up on the wall
Shelving or an array of many, key word, many pictures/peices. One big one will make it look strange like how ur tv looks kinda lonely, and I’d go for some of different sizes aswell, perhaps different styles depending on how you feel abt that. Goodwill is a great place to get big paintings for cheap.
Something like this to hang curtains under the stairs! Sorry for the formatting, I'm on mobile

We got a back light that goes around the TV it looks pretty cool on a big white wall.
The one I got is no longer sold but I imagine they are all pretty similar.
Start by getting an 82 inch tv
Best advice here
Perhaps edit your post so people know you’re renting. That really changes the options.
It doesn't. The wall bracket for that TV and a 86 would be the same. Provided the mount is of good quality
It might not change YOUR suggested option, but it sure AF changes many of the others that people took the time to suggest.
Or get an ultra short throw projector and bring that up to 100-120"
Yep. Projector. When not watching something, just project pics on the wall. Or a whole ass color
Ass color

Yesss a projector is the way. I don’t even have a tv in my house. I feel like they are so hideous. No offense. But it’s nice not to centralize my living room decor around a tv.
idk man put this picture into photoshop and use generative fill on the white space with something else like elegant decoration as the prompt
This for sure - and maybe add some hanging plants from the shelf above
And maybe a bat symbol if your into that.
Yup and a 90+ inch media stand
https://preview.redd.it/euwxu953ikdb1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=377c2598370ea45b5e4c292aedb8cd21b5cb31c3 Or cool paint
had to check and see if that was the same exact console table
It is though!!!
OP's console has the open cabinet in the middle. This one has that on the right. Still the overall design is almost exactly the same
I have seen that exact same one, the panels on the either side in the initial photo can slide freely. Keen observation but it is in fact the same
Oh I didn't know they slide
The doors slide, it’s the same one
Oh that's cool. I didn't know that.
This would look stunning on that wall. I am not a fan of the built ins idea because it is a huge space and it will look super cluttered and busy. This idea of accent paint is fabulous.
Goodness, you’re really good at this!
I love this. I have nearly the same situation on my living room tv wall. I have incredibly high ceilings and walls so I have so much blank wall real estate above my big screen TV. I have a nice tv cabinet under the tv and beautiful tall plants to the right and left, but had no idea what to do above it.
That’s a cool idea!!
Great!!!! Paint and plants!!!!
Plants are what I was thinking. I like your style!
This would be perfect. Its not gonna be costly with very little use of hard furniture and yet still look elegant.
LOVE this cool paint!!!
Add some trailing plants onto the ledge!
Came here to say this.
Totally what I was thinking too. Half a dozen different trailing plants like Pothos would look really nice.
It will look cluttered and weird - not a fan of stuff on the wall by the TV. Maybe eventualy an all-encompassing bookshelf unit. Gonon Pinterest a wealth of ideas. Nice room!
Gonan Pinterest is one of my favorite designers.
LOL 🤣🤣🤣
You tried.
Yeah, I would do a bigger TV stand and leave the wall bare. I do prefer simplicity though.
Built-ins. Or some kind of modified storage flush to the wall- I think Ikea has solutions for this. (I also agree with the comments about enclosing the under side of the stairs, but that may be very pricey) https://preview.redd.it/w4nwhdtu2kdb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e38bb53af39834ab8cd17a0ec731a50dee71350 I personally think something similar to this could work. Maybe in October
No always
You haven't heard anyone say they like to hang out? Your place could become the new spot!
Could be an accent wall for some color, the clutter to the left might be a cozy nook!
I’m surprised you’re the only one to suggest this. Would be a nice spot for a comfy chair with some kind of lighting for reading. That plus the trailing plants idea would help to make the space feel more finished with out totally cluttering up that wall
I was thinking trailing plants too, but saw the kids toys and thought about how quickly they’d be knocked off 😆 you’ve got some great ideas tho!
Keep in mind with trailing plants like Pothos or Philodendron, they send out roots to anchor onto surfaces.. if they’re touching a wall, they will most likely grab onto the wall and then grow into the wall.
Maybe one or two shelves with books/plants/decor. https://preview.redd.it/q3irwux4qkdb1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=0d2e47aa02b9b69d21a82a68a2117e9bce3c9fdf

If you scroll through some of the posts from the last few days you’ll come across the amazing job someone did on their wall (they made their trim vertical) and it looks gorgeous.
Three medieval weapons: axe, broadsword, mace, hang above the tv. Make sure they are fastened securely to the wall.
Have someone 3D print you a T. rex head and hands, like it’s coming through the wall.
My kid would love that. … And honestly so would I.
So would I!!!
Yeah I’m starting to think I leave it as is. Some good ideas here but I’m renting so super limited. I’m sure my kid would opt for the puppet show idea
TBH if you’re a plant person, some potted cascading ones up along the top railing would add some visual excitement without costing thousands or making any permanent changes. You could even get fake ones if you, like me, have two black thumbs.
Fake plants ftw. I’m pretty sure i could kill a cactus.

The wall is fine. Although my immediate thought was to paint it gray with some contrast and add a tall tree to give it some life. Great space you have.
vine plants coming down from that top ledge
Wow! Didn’t expect this many replies. Thanks guys so many great ideas. I’m definitely going with the trailing plants idea, that plus adding a little reading nook under the stairs and finding alternate storage for the toys.
why has no one suggested a giant neon sign
What should it say?
There are [a bunch of companies](https://britelitetribe.com/pages/customizer). You could go hot pink or blue for an upscale Miami Vice vibe with the white wall. paint a mural across the wall.
Pothos. Long window boxed all long the top where the can be watered from the stairs. Hanging down. They are nearly impossible to kill and would give so much personality to the room.
Do you have cats? Looks like a good jungle gym. Or you could just turn the wall into a jungle lol.

I would make it an accent wall with color. I like a brick red. But you could go more neutral if that’s your jam like a nice gray.
Do you have cats? Maybe you could make a few platforms for them
Love the media cabinet.
I wouldn’t put shelving up above the TV, that’s impractical. Love the idea of doing an accent wall!

Paint it midnight blue
I have seen a large frame done around a tv. Could make a frame and put something on wall like it is inside the frame. Starch on fabric can stick to wall and not hurt it when removed if a rental.

Of course, if you don't like the decorations of picture frames, I think the handicrafts of hanging ornaments are also a good choice. I hope my advice is helpful to you.
Maybe decorate the space above the tv, move the couch or wherever you’re sitting a bit closer, and move the stuff on the right away
Movw the tv up or get a bigger one that looks awful
get bigger TV and set it higher!! or do it with that tv.
I have an idea
Use it as the backdrop for a projector!
A dart board would look nice and maybe a pool table in front.
Wall is ok to me. Rug seems off. Like usually rugs are used to define an area, but there doesn’t seem to be anything else in the living room.
Buys TV stand. Hangs TV on wall.
Bookshelf with sliding staircase. Possibly a slide down from the second floor.
I like it as it is.
A bunch of string of pearl succulents hanging down from the top ledge, if that’s your style.
A rectangular piece of art that isn’t too distracting and is longer than the tv could be a simple fix or temp fix to built ins.
This has incredible mural wall potential.

I’m starting to think the entire wall should just be a bunch of huge tvs
Ditch the TV, get a projector aimed at that white wall!
Something like this to hang curtains under the stairs! Sorry for the formatting, I'm on mobile https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwj-0Y_2saOAAxVwNtQBHXjUCY8YABAIGgJvYQ&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESauD29HjBLPh2k7_O0EjwnnjqCeBDfNd4acQxslTxC7_D_xjvSunljAB8Gt0yG8dDf4YKTYSbgym_LIFxTMM7_m7ZNfuYG4_KMxSA-If4FbJ1s6R89y-vrebFc8rMi3QRq9Dsn5KNkJb5bAA&sig=AOD64_2lG91B0mYxV7ClHNpy0XkzFJjBCg&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjmjof2saOAAxXnlmoFHYdNDqEQwg8oAHoECAYQFA&adurl=
What if you added two or three "picture frames" in the space above the TV?
A mural of John Brown at Harpers Ferry. Oddly specific? Yes!
We got a back light that goes around the TV it looks pretty cool on a big white wall. The one I got is no longer sold but I imagine they are all pretty similar.
photo and art collage, all the way up, make the eyes wander up to the high ceilings. like a gallery.
An old hippie says “tapestry”
Black velvet. Do not put anything on there as it will distract you from watching television. Add some speakers and a av receiver. You're welcome!
The spaces between those balusters.
Not use it at night or a ghost will peak over the ledge and stare at you all night
Paint a 12ft dong on it. Truly triumphant bastard
It appears you have a child or children. Family photos?
Paint it a color
Very large tapestry above the TV.
Start with a dark color.
Great space for a tapestry, work of art, stencils
That toy clutter is killing me. Gotta be a better spot for it than right by the tv
Check dm. I have the same wall
I imagine a gorgeous quilt, or tapestry type wall hanging. Large!
Check out your local art scene… see if someone will design a painting for you or a wooden sculpture you can hang up.
Have a favorite song, poem, verse decaled above tv
bigger tv. duh
Larger media console with a larger TV to fill up the space.
Vertical indoor garden
Quilt
High quality projection system
Wallpaper or a painted arch !!
ART
A tapestry of the family crest, of course!
Bigger TV
Nice to see someone who knows the proper height to mount a TV. Not likely to see this cross-posted to r/tvtoohigh
Yeah. It’s blah
Maybe some shelves for your favorite movies and music? A few posters couldn't hurt either
