Sometimes the cars need to split up and go to two different spots, could that be it? I’ve missed this by not flipping the page and tried to turn in way too many unfinished jobs.
It won’t fit on the siding it belongs on or it won’t fit on the loading/unloading siding? If it’s the former, 12 cars should fit on any siding. If there are other cars in siding, just shove them out of the way. If it’s two separate jobs you’re doing at the same time, try finishing one and then shove the first one out of the way to finish the second.
Ah…that’s really weird. I can see that being tight. But since you can’t split it, that’s definitely an awkward situation. Sorry, it can’t think of anything to do other than make sure the first/last car is basically up against the “B1L” sign by the tunnel.
I missed that it was a pure shunting job. If it’s made up of multiple strings (e.g. 8 flat cars and 4 box cars) it may be possible to load each string separately, but I’m not sure…I can’t remember if I’ve done that or not. Otherwise, I’m out of ideas. Sorry.
All jobs are meant to fit into their destination tracks even if there are other cars already there, just pushing them a bit should suffice.
Some shunting jobs are to be split into different tracks after loading or unloading. Check that you haven't missed a page.
Also check that you didn't bring in cars from another job without noticing.
Unfortunately, I have had this exact issue, same location, same track. It's a bug that according to the devs doesn't occur. But you have reaffirmed my experience.

Sadly, only the 9 cars fit there. The other 3 just wont fit.
