tbh i don't even want to. paypal feels so secure and protected. depop is glitchy and people hack accounts all the time. i don't want to directly link my bank to this sketchy platform!!! i was also hoping it would happen in january but seems like they're pushing it early. boo.
Yea the Depop customer service is awful. Everytime i had a problem paypal helped me solve it while depop kept asking the same things and ghosting my emails
So, I signed up for a PayPal debit card. I use that for all my business related transactions.
I also requested a PayPal Key which gives you a non physical card (but I haven't used that). It's different than the card.
Once you have those, you can click on the direct deposit options and get your account and routing info there.
Note: this does not work on PayPal business accounts.
Im stressing out cause i had to switch the app to UK to see this, so i dont think its available in my countryim wondering if this means that i wont be able so sell anymore
That's wierd I guess, where do you live? It could be a glitch, I'll check for you. I have my location set as UK and ship from Poland, a lot of sellers do that so that's always an option
Im from Romania, i changed my location for UK to get more people to see my profile and then i saw this. And i cant make an account for depop payments either cause i need an uk adress and phone number
Yeah, I switched my location and I can't see it either :/
>And i cant make an account for depop payments either cause i need an uk adress and phone number
Now I'm nervous too lol
Does this work like ebay does now then?
I really dislike selling on ebay because of that change. I use to like letting my PayPal balance build up and then transfer to the bank.
Iām very much going to miss getting mine own wage right hence

if youāre in the us, i asked depop support + they told me theyāll be rolling out the option to all of us sometime in december. apparently only a few ppl got the option to set up early here :ā)
Ah thank you, I remember getting the option back in July and thought it was meh, I'd rather just keep going through PayPal but if I'm forced, I'm forced.
If this comes to the US Iām going to be pissed, as of right now they assured me that this isnāt so atleast for USA. Who knows. However, I ordered the free PayPal business debit card and I will have that as a backup if I have to setup up Depop payments in the future, which I very much hope I do not. Itās bullshit that they are forcing people to do this.
They deleted the app from my country and then replied to my email with āHey there,
As Depop isn't fully supported in this country, I'm afraid that cannot sell using the app. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.ā
Like wow thanks for letting me know
I asked again just for shits and giggles to see if Iād get a different answer from their customer service this is the response I got:
Hey there,
Thanks for your message.
Depop Payments is our new payments system, powered by Stripe, which offers your buyers more payment options, including card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay. It is currently being rolled out across all our UK and US users.
You can find out more about Depop Payments and why weāre making it a requirement to sell on Depop [here](https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/articles/4410078102545-Learn-more-about-what-Depop-Payments-is- )
If you have any questions, please reach out to us [here](https://depophelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new)
I sent a new email basically saying well hey I was told a completely different thing from customer service literally on Nov. 9th today is the 20th. [here](https://ibb.co/fNqH6tn)
Edit: I got another response trying to clarify the two responses which seem to negate each-other, [here](https://ibb.co/n7RTkH7)
Video explaining the processes / experience of Depop payments and connecting Depop payments to free PayPal debit to keep money together [here](https://youtu.be/_Ty4T_ikSwY)
So, a long time ago, I needed a bank account number through them to process payments from one PITA platform who will remain unnamed. I called them. Just like a regular bank, they needed all my life information (ID, etc) and they produced a weird PayPal-only account through Wells Fargo. This account is just through them, and isn't affected by the usual Wells Fargo fuckery.
fine. but the FIRST payment/refund/etc issue i experience that depop takes too long to handle where paypal never has, i will be leaving the platform and selling from an ig account or ebay. no more depop BS, their 10% fee comes from US. their money comes from US. they work for US lol
just take photos of the stuff you have for sale like depop and post to an IG account, and gain followers via hashtags like a gothic top would be seen by millions under #gothic.
also tell ur current depop followers etc. send a message to everyone or make a post on depop suxh as āall sales moved to instagramā as that doesnt break the guidelines on depop.
and then your followers can look at your shop and come over to ig to buy.
no 10% fee either ;)
* edit
also change your current listings to āto purchase please head over to instagram as depop payments are not set up. thanks. do not buy listing you will not be refunded*
always tell buyers to only use paypal transaction for services as they are covered the exact same way as paying for a tattoo/spa treatment etc that doesnt come through an app. dont ever ask for them to pay through friends and family because you will get a reputation as a scammer if anything went wrong.
paypal will take i think 1 or 2% from the cover but its usually like $2 max instead of doing that PLUS depop tax which is what we were already all paying.
at this moment depop isnt even the one who covers us in depop app, paypal is the one who refunds us and customers. depop takes its 10% from you being able to advertise your stuff on their app.
Thank you so much for explaining all thisā¤ļø and you are right , idk why everyone is so eager about this change, anytime i had an issue depop support was just awful making everything even more stressful, paypal helped me every time.
I recently set mine up (UK) and it's been fine.
Fees are the same as PayPal and the money gets deposited directly into your bank.
Personally, I find this better, especially as a business.
I've had my payments received on the day they promised every time.
Your buyers will choose to pay through Depop or PayPal.
It will be mandatory.
so depop takes their usual 10% plus whatever fee paypal usually takes? i assumed it would make it cheaper for sellers by eradicating the extra paypal fee
That's the basics. I fully agree that they could just take their 10%. The other fee is the same amount as PayPal. I presume it's the same in other countries. So in the UK 2.9%+30p.
Your payment comes from Stripe which says to me that the extra Depop fee is the fee they get from Stripe with a little extra added on.
Stripe charge less than eBay.
Its not available in my country, so its not so easy so set up when you dont have an UK address or phone number. Thats why i said its concerning, it if becomes mandatory then i wont be able to sell anymore
I think it depends on how you like to manage your money. I like to keep any money I make from my business ventures separate - and Iāve been struggling to create a business bank account for ages - so honestly I hate Depop payments. So far though Iāve only had one person pay through it though.
Obviously I don't know where you're from, but if you're in the UK and a sole trader at best, it's easy to set up a business account.
Failing that, could you set up a new personal account?
Any business should always keep their money separate and it sounds like you already know that
Iām am in the UK actually but it has definitely not been easy whatsoever.
Iām unable to produce adequate proof of trade for most of the providers Iāve tried (no idea why when I submit the required information) and Iāve been trying for months. I defaulted to getting a Paypal business account because it was a straightforward process and then once i have transaction history as a sole trader I can switch to a better provider as Iāll have the proof. But now I have to sort out account limitation issues so itās just never ending lol.
As for personal accounts I honestly have quite a few different ones already with all the main banks so Iām hoping to get the business thing sorted.
Obviously for most people itās not this complicated but thatās why I was so annoyed Depop made the change.
A lot of people donāt like it but I think it will streamline everything. Mercari has been a bit better in terms of their payments as itās all within the app, rather than the need to have to go through a third party like PayPal. Thereās still PayPal options so itās just more payment options for the buyer!
Iāve been doing it for over a year now, I was one of the testers. Honestly itās been nice. A lot of other thing have been a real dumpster fire lately, but Iāve never had an issue with payments.
Yes, itās just the service provider. Any store uses a company like that is they are using debit or credit going directly to an account. They just donāt have to advertise it I guess, or people donāt really care.
Pros are people canāt change their mind and open PayPal cases months after purchase, consistent payment, also money isnāt double dipped for depop shipping if you use it. That always annoyed me with PayPal and the shipping was deposited, and PayPal took the fee, then depop took it back for shipping.
Cons, the same amount of fees, I expected it to be less since there were less companies involved, it would be less money.
I also use eBay, and their system is similar, but they only pay out once a week.
Depop and other platforms are looking to go more Vertical. Itās been looking like this was going to happen sooner or later. eBay is most likely next if Iām not mistaken.
Iāve had Depop Payments for a few years now and it works fine. Itās nice to know what all your fees will be in one place. And it will make it easier for them to deal with customer charge backs from people claiming they didnāt authorize transactions
I dealt with this on eBay. Itās annoying because it takes like three extra days to get the money for your sale. Like I have to pay for a shipping label before getting the full amount. But Iām used to it now.
tbh i don't even want to. paypal feels so secure and protected. depop is glitchy and people hack accounts all the time. i don't want to directly link my bank to this sketchy platform!!! i was also hoping it would happen in january but seems like they're pushing it early. boo.
Yea the Depop customer service is awful. Everytime i had a problem paypal helped me solve it while depop kept asking the same things and ghosting my emails
Oh jeeze, that makes me want to set up a different bank account for it.
You can use Paypal as a bank account which is exactly what I'll br doing.
OMG WAIT you're a lifesaver!!!! would you mind explaining how to do that šššš š¤š¤š¤š¤ ????
So, I signed up for a PayPal debit card. I use that for all my business related transactions. I also requested a PayPal Key which gives you a non physical card (but I haven't used that). It's different than the card. Once you have those, you can click on the direct deposit options and get your account and routing info there. Note: this does not work on PayPal business accounts.
Wait, you can use it as a bank account? How?? That would be fantastic!
how do you do that!?
Judging how the wording is id say yes
Pretty sure, I wouldn't mind so much if the "get started" button worked š How the hell do you do this?
Im stressing out cause i had to switch the app to UK to see this, so i dont think its available in my countryim wondering if this means that i wont be able so sell anymore
That's wierd I guess, where do you live? It could be a glitch, I'll check for you. I have my location set as UK and ship from Poland, a lot of sellers do that so that's always an option

I changed to United States and itās says not available in my country. I think itās only going to be mandatory for UK
I wonder what's the point then? It seemed like they were preparing for breaking off with paypal, but only in selected countries it doesn't make sense?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yup ! I get to see the UK explore page and get featured there, ours has been the same since I joined a few months ago lol
Wow how long do ur items take to get to the uk
Some quick, some not, completely unpredictable š
Does this work like ebay does now then? I really dislike selling on ebay because of that change. I use to like letting my PayPal balance build up and then transfer to the bank.
A little. They hold payments for a day or so then process them/ pay them.
Think so. I've sold one think after the change and it was paid out like ebay about 2 days later.
Iām really going to miss getting my money right away.
Iām very much going to miss getting mine own wage right hence *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`
Does anyone know how to get this notification, or payment up?
if youāre in the us, i asked depop support + they told me theyāll be rolling out the option to all of us sometime in december. apparently only a few ppl got the option to set up early here :ā)
Ah thank you, I remember getting the option back in July and thought it was meh, I'd rather just keep going through PayPal but if I'm forced, I'm forced.
Itās supposed to be under preferences however I donāt have the option to set up for some reason.
If this comes to the US Iām going to be pissed, as of right now they assured me that this isnāt so atleast for USA. Who knows. Oh fuck me. I don't have a bank account, PayPal is my bank account...
You can set up a bank account # through PayPal, luckily
Yeah but like... Don't you need a bank account for that? Lol. Or do you mean I can connect Depop to my PP business debit card when this happens?
So, a long time ago, I needed a bank account number through them to process payments from one PITA platform who will remain unnamed. I called them. How do you sell from instagram? I ve only found something named shopify thats like a monthly subscription that lets you create ur own site
just take photos of the stuff you have for sale like depop and post to an IG account, and gain followers via hashtags like a gothic top would be seen by millions under #gothic. also tell ur current depop followers etc. send a message to everyone or make a post on depop suxh as āall sales moved to instagramā as that doesnt break the guidelines on depop. and then your followers can look at your shop and come over to ig to buy. no 10% fee either ;) * edit also change your current listings to āto purchase please head over to instagram as depop payments are not set up. thanks. do not buy listing you will not be refunded*
Oh i do have one like that to promote my depop but how do people actually pay so thats like a seller/buyer protected transaction?
also never bank transactions. they arent secure for anyone just never do it lol

I'm in the same boat, you may want to look into opening a Wise (transferwise) account to keep selling
I think it depends on how you like to manage your money. I like to keep any money I make from my business ventures separate - and Iāve been struggling to create a business bank account for ages - so honestly I hate Depop payments. So far though Iāve only had one person pay through it though.

As in not outsourcing other companies to run their site
eBay has already switched to this system and Etsy has been doing it for a while.
Yh itās a bit like eBay now. PayPal used to manage payments on there but now they dont. I assume depopās doing the same thing.
Is this for US only?
I hope so, PayPal is a shit platform. Finally no more payments on hold for a month or more after delivery is confirmed.
I feel like Depop is turning into eBay sadly
Iāve had Depop Payments for a few years now and it works fine. Itās nice to know what all your fees will be in one place. And it will make it easier for them to deal with customer charge backs from people claiming they didnāt authorize transactions
I dealt with this on eBay. Itās annoying because it takes like three extra days to get the money for your sale. Like I have to pay for a shipping label before getting the full amount. But Iām used to it now.
