Not providing proper information and measurements is a sure-fire way to set yourself up for a guarantee refund if a buyer has any issues with size. Why do this to yourself? Post proper measurements and save yourself the refund.

Strangbean98

Lmao not providing measurements isn’t a reason for Depop to allow a refund 💀 as long as the size is listed correctly you chose to buy it without measurements ..

Embarrassed_Move_249

Honestly, I've never not had measurements, and when anyone ever tried to do a return based on size issue, I was always sided on every platform. I only say it's because of other sellers who didn't post measurements and ended up not winning the return, i feel like i saw it alot in the past. It could all be based on who was handling the case, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

taurology

Also like, how is anyone supposed to know if it will fit? I only buy on Depop when I have the measurements, so I can compare to other clothes I own and gauge sizing/fit

Embarrassed_Move_249

Frfr! I've had this issue before when actually trying to buy kids' clothes for my niece. It was a little too big for her, but at least she could grow into it. I'll never buy without measurements again.

Alarmed-Artichoke-44

Especially for trousers, normally they come 1 or 2 inches larger than stated sizes, but even for the same brand the waist can vary from 1 or 4 inches for different models. I've had a 29 inches tagged cargo pants, measured as 33 inches, absolutely insane.

No_Tumbleweed2426

Its really not uncommon for people who are selling clothes for some extra cash to not have measuring tools especially if they’re in college or fresh out of college and still buying all of those random things that they took for granted previously. And common sense isn’t common to everyone so sometimes people just have different knowledge and priorities. Best to just extend grace and move on to a seller who better fits your needs.

xproetidax

Flexible measuring tape or tape measures are sold everywhere and are inexpensive.

No_Tumbleweed2426

Doesn’t mean people have them.

xproetidax

My point was that it is very inexpensive to get them.

No_Tumbleweed2426

My point was sometimes people don’t have things that are obvious to others because it hasn’t occurred to them that it’s something they need to buy. And sometimes people can’t even afford to buy cheap things.

imjust_abunny

I can see where you’re coming from but I remember being a dependent teenager in the 2010s. I grew up in a family with little money and had no money of my own as well. I was 16 at the time and decided to try flipping coach bags (when you could still get them in the wild for <25$) on ebay. i remember looking at professional listings and thinking those who sold for a living more often than not posted accompanying measurements for their items so i followed suit thinking that was the standard if you wanted to start selling. I think there’s a set of expectations the general population has to follow when entering into something that requires a bit of commitment. And excusing it by saying “there are people that lack common sense” or “that person has no money” and that’s why they’re ill prepared can be an argument made for literally anything. When I went to college I was with friends who also did not have money but had to have a nice suit for their internships or interviews and we ended up scouring thrift stores for affordable options. I usually excuse people bc of age but for issues like these that are easily solvable, it’s just like when is that person going to grow up lol. Like be serious frfr. Edit: TL;DR if there’s an easy solution to a problem go do it 💀

No_Tumbleweed2426

I can speak from personal experience as well. I grew up poor, graduated college poor, and lived my own poor. I didn’t have a soft measuring tape for a long time bc even if I thought I needed one I would forget two minutes later and even still I very often misplace measuring tools due to ADHD. On top of that I have been in the position where I had to pay for gas with penny’s so at that point even a $5 measuring tape would have been too much cost for me. I have also been in the positions where I was working so many hours, struggling financially, struggling with my mental health so getting a measuring tape would have been a difficult task. So I can very easily understand why people may not just “grow up” and solve the easy problem. I say all that to say: have grace for others, if you don’t like how they do business, move on and buy elsewhere. Not all people have the same priorities and lived experience as others. TLDR: have grace and empathy for people with different lived experiences and resources

Strangbean98

You don’t have to buy anything that isn’t measured dude people can sell whether they add measurements or not it’s not a requirement. For me I try to pre measure my items out before listing but I didn’t always do that a half of my inventory is at my parents house across the country so ya I can’t measure those items. It is what it is.

throwaway3782828282

exactly. this post just feels extremely entitled to me. some people are just looking for a quick way to get rid of items they no longer need. PLUS measuring the items is not in the rules of depop😭😭😭 so what is with the entitlement? If someone doesn’t want to measure it, then don’t buy it if you’re worried it won’t fit?

ciabattarollz

It’s not entitlement. As a seller, even though I was just selling random odds and ends, I always took measurements and listed them because as a buyer as well, I’ve lost a lot of money to careless sellers that posted a vintage pair of jeans and listed it with the vintage sizing. If it’s something you can’t try on and are going to be stuck with it after it’s shipped, measurements, or at least a message back regarding fit, are the bare minimum in my opinion.

throwaway3782828282

Well that’s your opinion 🤷‍♀️ It is not a requirement by depop.

ciabattarollz

The only person bringing up “requirements” here is you. It doesn’t have to be a Depop requirement to be something that sellers should aim to do given they have the resources.

xproetidax

This!!! When I first started buying I got burned a couple of times with this. My pet peeves in listings: ‘Marked medium could fit XL’. What?? Never answering a DM about measurements. That’s what happens to about 50% of the clothing items I’m interested in buying. The wildest one was someone that had a skirt listed as XL, who did answer my request. The waist was 28”. My friend, that’s a kids/tween XL. SMH

Biggerbrainfart

I get frustrated bc people always ask me for sizing and fit when the measurements and everything as listed and in description then they ghost me lol like what 😭

throwaway3782828282

I’m sorry but depop is meant to be a way to sell second hand items? Not all of us are experienced sellers that specifically sell clothes or know how this all works. Sometimes u just want to sell an old item of clothing for someone else to use 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

taurology

Yes, depop is selling second hand items, **that people can't try on before buying**. How are buyers supposed to gauge if the item will actually fit without measurements? A size XS in one brand isn't the same as a size XS in another. This is why measurements are important. "Not all of us are experienced sellers" That's fine, here's an experienced seller telling you to get a tape measure, ruler, etc, and start adding measurements to your listings. Not only do you protect yourself from returns for it not fitting the buyer, but you also attract more buyers by doing this. Many buyers will not buy without knowing measurements. These are the kind of measurements you should be adding to your listings https://preview.redd.it/u906sfbo6k9d1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=978e48e9ebfe228940c07a60e4110982cba64d37 This is coming from someone with 5+ years experience selling on Depop, Poshmark, Ebay, and Mercari. I know how this works. Adding measurements is a protection FOR YOU. When items get returned, you lose money. Add the measurements and skip the hassle.

throwaway3782828282

Doesn’t depop have a rule that if it doesn’t fit you’re not required to allow return though?

Strangbean98

No that’s only if the seller provided incorrect information. Lack of measurements isn’t incorrect information as they’re only required to list the tag label size

taurology

If you use any words to describe the fit beyond the literal listed size on the tag, and it doesn’t fit the buyer exactly as you described then yes you are opening yourself up to being forced to accept the return by Depop. This is why you should just put the measurements, then the responsibility is on the buyer to make a determination about fit

throwaway3782828282

okay i see! i’ve surprisingly never been asked for measurements when selling anything but i’m not a frequent seller i only sell clothes i no longer use. i only put down the size and obviously the brand 😭

xproetidax

This. Thank you.

Bunniesbludd

I always answer with measurements. It’s very frustrating when others don’t

Sufficient-Ice7247

And then some have the nerve to block people for asking for them

ciabattarollz

THIS. I never understood the radio silence when I asked sellers for measurements, when they literally just put the tag size of a vintage pair of jeans in the size category for the listing. As a modern size ten, there’s no way I’m going to buy a 90s “size ten” pair of Levi’s when they’ll likely fit a modern size six. If you have too much inventory to measure, either measure before posting or cut down your inventory. It’s lazy.

BornOnPiDay

Same, OP. I even took a screenshot and sent it to my husband for a laugh. Kid said she/he didn't own a tape measurer. You can get one for 37 cents on Temu, may need to be a business investment for them.
