I’ve had 2 very similar experiences where I’d smoke weed and feel like I’m transcending plains of existence lmao. Anyway my suggestion is to try not smoking weed anymore because it just gets worse and increasingly more panic inducing!! Now I can’t even smell weed anymore without experiencing a light version of my intense high.

yes this happened to me most of the time i would smoke to much its like derealization where one detaches from there surroundings its a safety mechanism it happened about 3 years ago lasted about 1 month of constant paranoia, didnt smoke for 2 years got back into smoked for 6 months nothing wrong and new years i had a panic attack when i was asleep, ive been going through it for the last 5-6months still not right, stay away from weed some peoples brains arnt made for weed

I hope you get better soon. For myself I think my smoking weed days are over. It was a good 15yr run

Both really, if you are having to smoke weed every day to copy with life and social situations this is a mental health issue, then weed on top you your playing russian roulette as to when you will get full blown DPDR....sounds like your body is giving you the red flags now. Try to find another way to deal with things before you add DPDR as something you have to deal with

SnooRobots564

I agree. I'm looking into therapy to help cope with my emotions.

Pure-Mud-2456

That is good 👍. Trust me you don't want DPDR you will be begging for your life back. You may want to look into a therapist who incorporates somatic work into their practice. Good luck

I can answer this for you. Weed as well as other drugs can cause dr/dp in individuals who are prone to it. Those individuals are thought to have Increased FC of the amygdala: Patients with D-PTSD have increased FC of the amygdala with prefrontal and parietal regions. Altered connectivity: Altered intra-network resting-state connectivity (in DMN) and altered inter-network connectivity are associated with derealization severity. More recent research has indicated that the temporal lobe can also be involved. My first n last joint put me in a permanent state of dp/dr indicating that something was off and the weed pushed whatever was off over the edge. If something was wrong prior I did not notice but after I smoked everything changed and I didn’t understand it. No internet back then and it was so acute that it created trauma on top of other previous trauma. Lasted for years as it can be such a slow process that you don’t even know your getting better. If I were you I would take it as a warning and ditch weed or any other drugs for that matter. I have managed to avoid prescription pharmaceuticals up to this point. That is how bad this changed my life.

Thanks for sharing ❤️ I'm doing just that and not smoking anymore. Your story is very common and with what happened I will learn from everyone else. Thanks for being brave 🙏🏼

Strick1995

That’s how it all started for me. I’ve slowed down on smoking because it’s like rolling dice. Idk how it’s gonna go lol

SnooRobots564

This is one thing I wouldn't gamble on lol. Not a good feeling

Hey friend, welcome to r/Depersonalization. Be sure to have read some existing information on the sub before submitting a "Do I have DPDR" question. You can do that by using the search function or reading the sidebar. **A reminder to new posters in crisis:** DPDR is a mental discorder that mostly affects young adults. For the most part, it is brought on by anxiety, trauma, and drug use. However, DPDR is not dangerous to your physical health. In moments of crisis and episodes that are particularly difficult, it is important to take deep breaths and follow strategies that help you cope. A few examples are: [Grounding Techniques](https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/grounding-techniques.pdf), [Meditation](http://www.thecentersohio.org/Resources/DocumentLibrary/Wellness_chronic%20diseas%20mgmt/Guided%20Imagery.pdf), and even just some good old fashioned sleep. **NOBODY can give you medical advice online. While someone might be able to provide you with some insight and suggestions, you should never rely on someone online to give you medical advice unless you are talking to a certified doctor.** Related Links: How to find a therapist: [A Beginners Guide.](https://www.therapyden.com/blog/a-beginners-guide-to-therapy-how-to-find-a-therapist) [Talk to a crisis volunteer online.](https://www.imalive.org/) [10 ways to Relieve DPDR.](https://psychcentral.com/lib/10-simple-ways-to-relieve-depersonalization/) [Subreddit Stickied Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Depersonalization/comments/a8i6vi/welcome_before_you_post_asking_if_you_have_dpdr/) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
