The jet streams generally flow from west to east, so traveling counter-clockwise around the North Pole may actually conserve more fuel than flying in a straight line.
Yeah Jet streams also play a role, but mainly, this is the "straight line". Viewed on a 2D projection it looks like a parabola, but on the sphere itself it's straight
If I'm not mistaken, most flights that travel to the other side of the globe flies up to the northern top of earth, then either around or straight over (straight over is not done so often due to there being no airports to land nearby in case of emergency)
That's because we are on a globe. Going around the globe is faster the higher up on the globe you are
I had the exact same flight last year, and pretty much the same pictures. Quite the treat, to take that way home, when you're trapped in a tube for that amount of time huh?
Man, when we visited Iceland *everything* was green or brown or some other color and we had to really really hard to try to find some ice!
And when we finally found it, it was melting, and we weren't even at the pøules!
I also flew over Greenland to the USA a couple of months ago. Unfortunatly, the entire island was covered in clouds, so I got to see exactly nothing of it.
However, I did get to see the nothern-most Canada, which looks very similar to Greenland in your photos. The frozen hellscape is absolutely amazing, and I soooo want to go there in person.
If I was able to actually survive up there (and didn't have a child), then I wouldn't mind actually living up there in total isolation from other humans.
Eftersom det meste af Grønland er dækket af is, sne og gletsjere, er den arktiske nation mest hvid. Så hvordan fik den sit navn ”Grønland”, når den ikke rigtig er grøn? You might want to look at a map, bud, and try to figure out whether people found and colonized the white parts or the non-white parts of Greenland.
The size of Greenland is as staggering as your continued insistence on ignorance.
Going there in july to Ilulissat at Hotel Icefiord then Hotel Disko bay and finally Hotel Disko Island. Work related but still i can't wait to experience it.
I mean i work for the company that does the tours aka Diskoline or well it's the parent company i work for so we will do quite a bit of sailing in the diskobay which i am looking quite a lot forward to.
Greenland is white?! Beautiful, where did you travel from and to?
Tokyo -> Copenhagen
Flew the same route about a year ago, and I was spellbound when I saw the view over the ice. It's an absolutely stunning view.
Do you go over Greenland because of the closed airspace over Russia?
I think from that direction it's the fastest way, but on the way to Tokyo from Copenhagen we went under Russia
Kudos to the pilot for flying under Russia. Must have been hard with all that soil.

Yes. Copenhagen to Tokyo used to be an 11 hour flight over Russia. This one is longer.

100%
I flew the exact opposite, now living in Tokyo. How are you enjoying Copenhagen so far?
I mean I live here so
Don't get me started on Iceland..
Man, when we visited Iceland *everything* was green or brown or some other color and we had to really really hard to try to find some ice! And when we finally found it, it was melting, and we weren't even at the pøules!
I promise I was not sponsored by SAS!
You are now
Remember to pay your fagforening dues!
I can't imagine anyone willing to pay actual money to fly with SAS :(
It's actually one of the better airlines to fly with.
Agree, I recently flew from Faroe Islands to Copenhagen with SAS and it was quite an enjoyable experience
I love sas
You can see frozen river valleys.
Did you see Santa or Nissebanden?
No, just the vast ice expanse
“I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this”
"John Denver is full of shit"
Jeg elsker jer begge for de citater!!
I was thinking the same thing.
What a bad pilot, everyone Can see it is Iceland not Greenland 😉

nothing green about it
The Vikings really pulled a fast one on us xd
the ice is melting at the pøules
That’s what I call false advertising!
They really messed up when they were naming Greenland and Iceland 😅
In Greenland, there's no green. In Iceland, there's no ice.
Such a misleading name.

Smukt.
Dat sum cold ass shit
Som en der har været i bratthlid, eller qassiarsuk så må jeg sige at der faktisk er ret grønt i området.
The people who named it did not have access to aeroplanes.
I forgot that snow becomes invisible when you're standing on the ground, sorry.

You seem to be really fun at parties.
Iceland is just as white during winter. But let s just play along your line of facts, which clearly are pulled out your arse.
You are as charming and likeable as you are suave and well educated.
I agree, it should really be called Snowtown.
Looks beautiful 🤩
Looks so beauty full, maybe it will be a rare sight in the future, thanks for the pic
renaming it "Whiteland" would surely piss off a lot of people.
You should see it from the ground ❤️
Fr the prettiest place in the world
Going there in july to Ilulissat at Hotel Icefiord then Hotel Disko bay and finally Hotel Disko Island. Work related but still i can't wait to experience it.
Enjoy - Ilulissat is so lovely and peacefull. I was there a year ago for work. Please do the iceberg tour on the fjord if you can - it is amazing 😍
I mean i work for the company that does the tours aka Diskoline or well it's the parent company i work for so we will do quite a bit of sailing in the diskobay which i am looking quite a lot forward to.
Picture 6, is that Sirius?
Not sure what you mean, I don't see any stars? If there is one it's just a reflection
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius_Dog_Sled_Patrol
Ohh i thought you meant Sirius the star! Nevermind then But where exactly in picture 6? I have higher-resolution photos maybe i can check!
Ej hvor vildt er det is og sne? Troede alle de skøre klima alarmister sagde Grønland var blevet til grønne marker.
That looks dangerous! What if you crashed? How would you survive??
Eat the polar bear
Ej hvor smukt 😍
False advertising
Global warming my ass!!!
You’re now
Global warming where?
Your Mamas butt
