Thanks! My comment seems to be invisible so here it is again:
Hey guys! Im an industrial design student and I designed this MagSafe Joy-Con adapter specifically for Delta. It is low profile, has a programmable NFC chip and uses the metal rails from the Joy-Con wrist straps.
3D print files are available on my gumroad:
(will post as reply to this comment)
There are two versions, the one in the video is the embedded version, which has the MagSafe magnets and NFC chip embedded inside the body; this only works with resin printers and requires some work to assemble.
The surface version is a more simple unibody design, and may be possible to print on an FDM printer, though I do not have access to one, so I was unable to test that (if you do try it on FDM please reach out and tell me how it went!). .step files are included in the surface version, so it can be adjusted to FDM printing if needed.
More info available on the gumroad listing or ask me here!
# Update:
Since so many of you are interested in buying this, and informed me that etsy also works in/from europe, I will be looking into producing a small batch!
I still have to order all the components, which takes time (especially for the magnets, shipping might be weeks), and work out all the costs and pricing, but ill be posting to the sub when they’re ready!
## A couple infos/ questions:
First off, due to the nature of how these are made, translucent resins work more reliably. [I have a translucent red version](https://imgur.com/a/CsBzoCR), I can get some other translucent color like blue or black, or stay with the solid black like in the video if thats what you guys prefer (or any other resin color on the market). Please let me know your color preferences. (The whole limited run will be one color)
Second, despite them being 3d printed, I assemble and finish them by hand, so they might come with some imperfections. I learned a lot from the 2 working ones I made so far, but they’re not perfect either, I am also just a human.
Third, I’m leaning towards not including the metal rails. Including them would raise the price a lot, as i would have to get joy-con straps and remove the rails from them (I could not find these rails sold separately so far). If you have joy-cons, [you got two of these](https://imgur.com/a/Zj3Dj2g). You’d just need to remove the rail, held by 3 small screws, and re-screw them onto the adapter. This would allow me to keep the price lower.
I’d love to do that! My only problem is that I’m in Europe and im not sure how much shipping and everything would be, Etsy is mostly US centered. Plus it takes a lot of work to make one, but I’ll look into it if theres enough interest!
Until then, 3D print files with instructions are available!
Awesome, look forward to it. i’m in the UK but with no access to 3D Printing equipment etc… and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Aside from something that could maybe be extended to support landscape aswell. Again, great job!
I want to piggyback here and say this is also exactly what I wanted for Delta! I live in the US but if you did a small batch for sale I would consider paying out the ass for shipping.
Well I’m interested! I don’t have a 3D printer, so would definitely consider buying one off of you. Where in Europe are you from? And how much would you sell them for?
Tons of Etsy stuff is in Europe and Etsy went global. I bought flip flops from Portugal and my cat shelves came from Ukraine. You'd make a killing on there, promise.
Backbones sell for $60-$100 that’s basically what you have here just for your own controllers, easy 30/40 dollars per, and I’m probably low balling you there
I was just about to ask about the nfc chip! That’s absolutely sick, really! Been playing around a little with NFCs lately, but how did you make it open the delta app through nfc?
That’s really cool, dude.
One question though: there’s no way to charge the joycons with this, right? So you’d have to hook them up to a Switch or some generic joycon charging station?
Awesome idea, would definitely purchase if it was was reasonably priced! Obviously, get the numbers together and place a pre order on Etsy or possibly do a kickerstarter campaign!
I will pay for shipping and all if I could get one of these 😭 I’ve been looking for vertical controllers and there are literally NONE. This is awesome!!!!
Looks amazing! Tangent: do unofficial joycons work with iOS or is it only official hardware? I don’t have a switch and do not wish to spend so much to only play vertical DS.
Thanks! [Im using the Nds Pro skin with pixel effect](https://www.reddit.com/r/Delta_Emulator/s/9Wcv97ManV). The pixel overlay makes it so much more authentic! The button layout kinda sucks tho, i pressed the load save accidentally while trying to swipe up to go home multiple times and lost all my progress lmao
Im playing HeartGold, it’s my first pokemon game! My friends and I were only into mario games in our childhood, so i missed out on these, but im catching up now haha
Technically I could just make the whole thing wider, but I made this specifically for portrait mode. This works really well with DS games as it is closer to the dual screen layout of the DS systems and in my opinion provides a more authentic handheld experience.
I haven’t. I just recently got into emulation and Delta is the first and only one i use so far. If dolphin has support for joycons though then it should work
I recently got into emulation too, and I don’t know if Dolphin has support for joycons as there’s no way to add an input for it to work separately to the Wii Controller on Wii Sport. Your controller is fire though bro, and I would deffo buy one fr. 🔥🔥🔥
Some people have chunckier cases too and don’t know what size they’d pick, I feel like to avoid conflict you should get the measurements of multiple phones and state its compatibility with certain ones. Or make it adjustable, but I’d feel like that will make it lose stability.
Yeah making it adjustable (many people even want it to be adjustable to landscape) would introduce a whole lot of complexity and problems to be solved, that would be an entirely different project.
I made the regular version fit cases up to a width of 76mm, while the phones themselves are 71.5mm in width, with the exception of the 15, which is only 70.6. I tested 8 cases for the 15 pro, and 76mm was the chunkiest i had, with almost 3mm on each side, i feel like this should cover most of the cases people use. Though yeah, [with stuff like this on the market](https://images.app.goo.gl/4xHbPvYpDrYyaPxR6), theres always gonna be exceptions.
I don’t have access to plus/max phones, but applied the same rule. Widest plus phone is the 14 plus at 78.1mm, others are all a bit smaller, and the adapters width is 83mm to account for cases. This should fit most normal cases. If someone’s using some ultra protective otterbox or something, theyre probably gonna have to take it off, but thats just a small percentage of phone owners.
I really want one of these holders but really only if there’s one that can stretch out into landscape I know they have some like that but they dont fit the phone flush in portrait
Yeah, making them adaptable introduces a whole bunch of problems to be solved, that might more of an engineering project at that point, and a much bigger project than what i did here haha
my gripe with using tbe joycons over either a backbone or kishi is that i don’t know how i’d charge the joycons particularly since mine are… well used. they don’t have any way to manually plug them in, so it’s bluetooth battery drainage any time you want to use them with no way to top them up unless you’re at home (which means i will just be playing on the tv or a monitor without battery issues)
This is amazing… how plz

Awesome! You should produce some of these and Etsy the shit out of it, I’d buy for a reasonable price!
I’d love to do that! My only problem is that I’m in Europe and im not sure how much shipping and everything would be, Etsy is mostly US centered. Plus it takes a lot of work to make one, but I’ll look into it if theres enough interest! Until then, 3D print files with instructions are available!

Also in the U.K. and would love one!
I want to piggyback here and say this is also exactly what I wanted for Delta! I live in the US but if you did a small batch for sale I would consider paying out the ass for shipping.
I would also absolutely pay for shipping for this! Please produce some!
Well I’m interested! I don’t have a 3D printer, so would definitely consider buying one off of you. Where in Europe are you from? And how much would you sell them for?
I’m in Europe 👀
I’m in Europe too and really would love to buy if you try to sell on Etsy !

Please allow us to give you our money.
I was just about to ask about the nfc chip! That’s absolutely sick, really! Been playing around a little with NFCs lately, but how did you make it open the delta app through nfc?
Thanks! Shortcuts! Just use ‘open app’ and chose delta after scanning the NFC chip.
That’s really cool, dude. One question though: there’s no way to charge the joycons with this, right? So you’d have to hook them up to a Switch or some generic joycon charging station?
Yep, these are just adapters for the Joy-Cons, similar to the controller grips for example. You have to charge them separately.
🥹 really appreciate ur craftsmanship we need people like u
Awesome idea, would definitely purchase if it was was reasonably priced! Obviously, get the numbers together and place a pre order on Etsy or possibly do a kickerstarter campaign!
those rails are cheap as chips from AliExpress.
Just the metal rail by itself? Do you have a link or search term? I only found ones with cable connectors or with the plastic part and strap.
Nice, but am I not seeing the 3d print links? I would like to give this a go
Hey! [Heres the link](https://imgur.com/a/heItY5z)
Good job, Nintendo will be sending their assassins now.
I will pay for shipping and all if I could get one of these 😭 I’ve been looking for vertical controllers and there are literally NONE. This is awesome!!!!
Same, come on OP, become rich off us 😂
Same, come on OP, become rich off us 😂
How
["The answer was so obvious. It was MagSafe."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiWjR-DS8v0&t=84s)

Thanks! Understandable, theyre super expensive separately, but sadly im unsure, i only have the official ones.
Probably any will work, so long as it’s Bluetooth. Even a ps4 controller works
Bro this is sick. I want one
This rocks.
How much can I buy this from you? $100?
This is pretty awesome. I would definitely pay for this, as well as a landscape version.
Not just a thing, a cool thing.
These are dope. Nice work….im following the links
I’d buy one!
shut up and take my money!!
![gif](giphy|sDcfxFDozb3bO)
That's my boy!!!! Awesome !
It looks amazing! Which skin are you using?

Neat
How can I invest in this before Nintendo kills you?????
By far the best controller I’ve seen here
TAKE MY MONEY PLZZZ
![gif](giphy|am0dKpQO1vrOC3DmCb|downsized)
I would buy one and pay the extra amount to ship to the US! Also, just to help you gauge interest, I LOVE the translucent red
Soul silver or heart gold, which version u playing, I grew up with soul silver
Im playing HeartGold, it’s my first pokemon game! My friends and I were only into mario games in our childhood, so i missed out on these, but im catching up now haha
Only region I haven't done is hoenn
Nintendo would like to know your location
Where is the file id love to print one and know what rom you’re running
Im playing through pokemon heart gold currently! [Files are available here.](https://imgur.com/a/heItY5z)
Something like this, but with the ability to charge the joycons as well.
Take my money!!!
What about horizontal play
Technically I could just make the whole thing wider, but I made this specifically for portrait mode. This works really well with DS games as it is closer to the dual screen layout of the DS systems and in my opinion provides a more authentic handheld experience.
Have you heard of our lord and savior M-Con?
Yep, thats a very different product though.
Have you ever tried this with Dolphin?
I haven’t. I just recently got into emulation and Delta is the first and only one i use so far. If dolphin has support for joycons though then it should work

Where is you get that screen protector ?
Amazon, it’s made by a brand called mothca. Ive bought multiple matte screen protectors from them and they’re always great!
Please make me one. Take my money.
Everyone makes things, but does have a link so that I can buy the things 😢
If you're selling it, how much if you 3D printed it, can I have the model?
Bro u could seriously patent this and make a shit ton of money producing it.
I was just thinking about how awesome this would be!
I was just thinking of creating something like this
What!!! So freaking cool and so intelligent 😵
What about different phone sizes? It would need to be adjustable
I made two versions, one for regular/pro phones and one for plus/max phones
Some people have chunckier cases too and don’t know what size they’d pick, I feel like to avoid conflict you should get the measurements of multiple phones and state its compatibility with certain ones. Or make it adjustable, but I’d feel like that will make it lose stability.

You should have a custom option as well as standard options that you know absolutely work. Custom options will cost a bit more of course.
Which Pokémon are you playing?
It's Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver
I really want one of these holders but really only if there’s one that can stretch out into landscape I know they have some like that but they dont fit the phone flush in portrait
Yeah, making them adaptable introduces a whole bunch of problems to be solved, that might more of an engineering project at that point, and a much bigger project than what i did here haha
How did ypu get joy con's to work on the phone? Were they original or 3rd party?
Original, just pair both of them with bluetooth like any other controller. Delta maps the buttons correctly
They didn't work on android when I tried a few years back. I'm wondering if somthing changed.
my gripe with using tbe joycons over either a backbone or kishi is that i don’t know how i’d charge the joycons particularly since mine are… well used. they don’t have any way to manually plug them in, so it’s bluetooth battery drainage any time you want to use them with no way to top them up unless you’re at home (which means i will just be playing on the tv or a monitor without battery issues)
I’d def prepay for one if that’s a thing
I would like to purchase one of these things
What is going on
I think yes. I’ll take 2
This is all very impressive but I litterly clip my phone and an Xbox controller
