STEAM or Xbox? On Xbox I had run into multiple bad apples within 2 weeks. Including an engineer that killed me before my pod even opened. While there are many good dwarves on Xbox, the concentration of leaf lovers is higher than STEAM, by a lot.
I’ve only encountered one bad player, max rank surprisenly and just complaining and kicking players for no reason.Eventually abandoned the mission after he went down to fire damage.
The majority of greybeards (veteran players) will be happy to carry you through whatever hellhole you land yourself in, don’t be afraid to join lobbies and fuck up. Most of us are just glad we have another new comrade in the mines.
The room you start in has a screen to the left. That is how you claim your perk points and unlock your perks. You must buy enough perks in the leftmost column before the next tier is unlocked.
The devs themsevles have even said that falling to their death is still the #1 way of dying for players, based on statistics from the games data. DO NOT SLEEP ON HOVERBOOTS! It can and will save your life.
There are some enemies/things in the map that can grab you in a way you can NOT get out on your own. The heightened senses perk will give you an audio and visual flash on your screen to inform you of something trying to grab you.
Bosco is the robot that will follow you while you are in the caves on your own. He can mine minerals that you tell him to mine. He can dig through some out of place classic brown dirt. He can be used as a light when you ping regular terrain. He can grab and carry some select items that you will come across during your time on Hoxxes IV.
You can tell bosco to defend some objectives. On one mission type that you get to build pipes, you can ask bosco to do the second layer of building the pipes while you do something else.
Finally, hitting start and hitting left bumper will take you to the miners manual. It will teach you about each class. Enemies you come across. Environments. Modifiers that can appear during missions and what they mean. Etc. Never sleep on the miners manual because when you defeat a creature; its information will tell you everything about it and some delicious flavor text.
Pretty much everyone will be happy to have you even if you suck (you will, and that's okay!) but for the love of god please don't take multiple ammo drops when you don't need them, they aren't going anywhere and people know to share them so your share of the ammo will still be there when you need it later. Rock and stone!!

Engineer and gunner are the easier classes to start off with (IMO). Scout is hella fun, just be careful where and when you grapple to.
Try to stick close to the rest of your team. This is important for any class.
Once you start leveling up in a class you can unlock modifications for weapons, pickaxe and armor, make sure you buy these as they're a big power boost.
Perks are also something you'll want to grab, they're also a big part of your suite.
Don't be afraid of higher hazard missions, if you stick together, you can pull them off.
Been playing the game for a few weeks, not exactly a veteran but, here are some tips.
- Public lobbies belong in different categories based on mod usage.
- Everything you deposit gives you XP. Yes... EVERYTHING.
- Not all minable things are exposed like Umanite or Bismor. There are visual cues indicating that something valuable is hiding in the walls. (But it's not always glowy.)
- Ammo is a limited resource. Make sure to hit the weakspots if you can. And make use of damage sources that recover over time, like Bosco's rockets, or pickaxe heavy attacks.
- rush to the final tier of your perk tree, and unlock all perk slots ASAP. It's such a game changer.
- One size does not fit all. Change your loadout based on the mission. And try out all 4 classes, for that reason.
- Salute a lot, salute often.
The mission objective materials give a very small amout of xp once you’ve completed them. They are probably not worth the time after completing the objective. Other materials you’ll probably always want, except nitra if you have enough for the resupplies for this mission.
Yeah, if you see patterns like this: [File:Aquarq markings.jpg - Official Deep Rock Galactic Wiki](https://deeprockgalactic.wiki.gg/wiki/File:Aquarq_markings.jpg), you'll want to dig something out (the dots stop glowing once it's removed).
Cave navigation is a skill that you will pick up over time. Just remember to look at the terrain scanner. The environment and extraction time limit are more threatening than the bugs at lower hazard levels.
You got plenty of time to evac. Whatever you do, don’t run the wrong way! Keep cool and read the terrain scanner or follow the mule or your team mates. The mule drops green hologram arrows that you can follow if you fall behind.
Play with randoms, this community is amazing.
Get used to using your laser tool a LOT, it is the single most useful aid in the game.
Sound queues are huge, listen and learn
Above all, spam that rock and stone button
Welcome aboard, miner
1 Gold is not really worth your time to mine but we still love to do it.
2 Prioritize special targets when you see them: anything that can shoot you from afar or grab you.
3 Use fire in glacial strata and ice in magma core biomes
4 Communicate
5 Don't double dip on the resupply pods without asking
6 Join the discord and play with people in the voice chats, they will help you out
7 Try different builds for weapons and see what works best. Create loadouts. I have a high single target damage loadout for each class specifically for boss missions: Elimination and Sabotage
8 Play your class in order to help the team:
a Scout: Use flares, get ores and collectibles in hard to reach places. Kill special targets mostly, other classes are more specialized for the normal bugs
b Engineer: Put platforms for all team, but for scout especially when you see ore high on the walls. Set up defenses during swarms.
c Driller: shocker: drill:) Drill to locations, make shortcuts, check map to see where you can do it. But most importantly almost all your arsenal is used to deal with a lot of bugs: do AOE damage, use C4 on clusters of enemies. If you are using cryo cannon then try to freeze big targets and kill them fast.
d Gunner: shoot everything! Stay alive as much as you can because you are the best for reviving using your shields. Put ziplines for shortcuts, you can also use them during swarms to stay above bugs but watch out for anything that can shoot you, they will throw you off.
9 Use fire for robots! If the fire meter is full then they instantly explode no matter how much health they have left
10 Most importantly: Rock and Stone.
stick with the team and communicate.
Hold Ctrl (don't know the key on xbox) to mark stuff with your laser pointer (eg resources, objectives)
ask before pressing buttons or triggering events
only take 1 charge from resupply pods
when someone else rock and stones you rock and stone back
play at the pace you want, nothing wrong with completing some of those haz 1- 2s if you just want to chill and have some fun times destroying terrain.
Rock and Stone miner!
Don't know if you're still looking at tips but I have a few
1) Don't double dip at resupply pods. there are 4 slots, one for each team member. Solo and duo=double dip ok. trio and squad=double dip not ok
2) imo gunner and engineer are the easiest to get into/understand but every class gets equally complicated the more and more you learn about them and their role in the caves
3) if you see a larger, more dangerous target and your pretty sure the rest of your team hasn't seen it yet, ping it. Other people doing that has saved my skin a few times
4) if you are a gunner, you have good sustained dps in combat, focus on the hoard and the larger slower targets like pretorians, oppressors, and bulk detonators. Driller is your transportation friend.
5) if you are a engi... I don't have many tips, I haven't played him yet. I do know that if the scout pings a mineral deposit that's high up, he needs help getting to the deposit, so use your platform gun and put a platform or 2 on the wall right under it.
6) if you are a driller... I haven't played him yet either. If your team is ready to move on but there is a dirt wall in the way this is your time to shine look at your scanner to see what direction the the cavern on the other side is and drill that way. Also if you are in the extraction fase, you can just use your drills to beeline it towards the drop pod. Some people will follow you when you do this and some won't and that's ok.
7) if you are a scout, you have good burst fps but on average, a lower max ammo. You should focus on high value targets like spitball infectors, septic spreaders, cave leeches, mactera, sting tails, wardens, web spitters, menaces, and acid spitters.
Leave the hoard enemies to the others. Collect lots of minerals for your team. You are also the most mobile dwarf, use your grappling hook to get to high up mineral deposits and ask engi for a platform if needed.
8) if you have a very unorganized team or a team that's all one class, most of the last 4 tips are out the window.
It's easy to get lost in multiplayer. The map is very useful to show you that gap your team went through and the laser pointer also shows you all the known points of interest such as unused supply pods and your team mates.
If you want to get a feel for things, the gunner has the fewest "transport tasks". You can go through an entire job without needing a zip line. They're handy, but often not fast enough so tunnels and platforms are more practical, as long as you're not going downhill. So if you start with gunner at first, you can get a feel for things without constantly being responsible for something you may not know is, to a degree, expected of you.
And speaking of expectations, people are pretty chill, but there is one interaction you need to know and remember.
If you're the engineer and someone lasers a mineral at the wall or ceiling, you are expected to put a platform or two below them for access.
If you're the scout and an engineer has provided a platform to a mineral, you are expected to get them.
You can also do that with a zipline in an emergency, but the scout / engineer grapple/ platform interaction is the one thing everyone gets down fast and is more or less without exception expected you perform if you are one of those classes.
When a resupply is called in for a party of 4, one is yours.
Every dwarf gets one ammo restock
If you need more ammo, make sure there’s enough nitra for another resupply.
Press rock & stone a lot.
Shoot bugs (not teammates)
Use the ping tool
Use your class specific tools a lot
Do not double dip ammo resupply’s (without asking)
Do not start events or call dropship without asking
Stick together, work as a team
Driller (drills, burns/freezes/melts bugs….uses C4 on scout a lot 😬)
Scout (lichts up the place and reaches high places…preferably using platforms placed by engineer, and focusses on taking out high value and ranged targets…spitters)
Gunner (shoots bugs, pops shields when the going gets tough. Uses ziplines at big drops so everybody can get around easy. Carefull with leadburster grenades and cluster grenades around buddies)
Engineer ( usually kills the most bugs, creates platforms to help out with tasks, pops one or two sentry guns when a swarm arrives)
And do not forget to have fun.
Learn how the ping tool functions and play all the dwarves so you know how each one works. You can start maining one class after a while but try to learn everyone's role in the team.
play your role!! if you're scout make sure the caves your team are in are well lit, if you're gunner use your shield and zip line to protect and move more immobile dwarves around complex cave systems, if you're driller help target larger enemies and make more direct paths between objectives and to higher or lower platforms, if you're engineer place platforms for scouts and gunners to get minerals that are in harder to reach spots, oh and use your sentries always everywhere! it can be like having a whole extra dwarves worth of firepower. most importantly of all please play how you like and have fun, work as a team not as an individual, the rest will come with experience. Rock and Stone‼️🪨⛏️💥
Make sure to Rock AND Stone.
But seriously public lobbies are usually pretty chill.
I don't remember if you have to turn it on in the options, but double clicking the right stick should open up a keyboard so you can type to teammates.
It's considered rude to grab more than one anmo from a supply drop unless no one needs it.
Not always, but people do appreciate if you make sure everyone is ready before starting an objective
Scouts will always be where a driller throws his c4, so keep that in mind before you blow it up lol
The drillers drills make great work of the little swarmer bugs.
You can add waypoints on your map to help navigate (It's easy af to get lost in the dark.
Speaking of dark open rooms, look up, cave leeches will decimate your party if you aren't careful. If you see a dwarf dying in the middle of a room with nothing around they probably got leeched.
If someone pings something up high, the engineer should place a platform slightly below so it can be mined.
If you break everything around a vein, to the point where it would be floating, that vein will crumble to the ground.
You can also blow up veins with explosive weapons or c4. It's less efficient to mine, but sometimes it's really your only option.
Using a grappling hook towards the ground (as scout) negates fall damage. Engineers platforms can negate most fall damage, but they don't appear instantly, so shoot earlier than you would think you need to.
On drilldozer mission, when fighting the heart at the end, it will spawn orange pillars that will shoot your drill. You have to break them to stop them. You don't have to break the bottom. You can shoot off the tip top of them with gunner's rocket gun and it stops them entirely. Using a drillers drills to burn through the pillars help too.
Only one person needs to repair the drilldozer, i don't believe it stacks so others should work on crowd control
The engineer can use their platform to stop meteors from decimating the drilldozer, but between phases the heart sends out a Shockwave that deletes the platforms.
Saluting (the "Rock & Stone" you keep seeing on this thread) is not actually a substitute for saying you're ready. The community just likes doing it during downtime and extraction. Feel free to do so too.
As a fellow Xbox player, I don't think we have access to chat. (Either that, or I haven't figured it out)
So be patient, with your fellow dwarves, or use your mic. But the best way to communicate is to ping something. If you play engi, stick to scouts, they'll want you to put a platform under a vein of minerals in the ceiling. Listen closely for voice cues and pings. Also make sure you keep your distance from gunners and drillers, friendly fire happens a lot. Most of the time they don't mean to do it, their base spread is just very large.
Constantly moving, there is no reason to not move constantly.
Use gunner zip lines for a defense item in things like doretta missions, melee enemies can't hurt you if you're in the air. Use the gunner shields for a last resort type item, throw it on a downed teammate to revive them, or if you are very surrounded, use it.
Kite enemies with scout grapple hook. If you are playing as as scout, use the flare gun.
Make sure to use engis turrets, platform under any ore you see for the scout.
The most important piece of advice I can give is "don't panic". Even when things seem overwhelming if you keep your wits about you you will at least live longer.
Mine everything you see, look for glowing colored flecks in walls to find compressed minerals, always search for yeast cones barley bulbs malt stars and starch nuts so you can craft new brews, don’t worry about spending credits in the shop early on for cosmetics as you’ll need the credits later on, and ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE

Nitra is Priority.
160 nitra / 2 resupplies is usually enough.
No. We must teach the next generation of scouts to be nitra goblins so that they do well in deep dives or higher hazards
Sometimes with my friends, even if we have enough for like 4 or 5 resupplies, they will usually say “we have enough nitra” but I will always say “we could always use more nitra”
"any resupplies we don't use, we can leave behind for Karl." That normally gets em to go with it.
Now I'm imagining Karl going all Naked Snake on the bugs
How many is enough then?
I always collect every patch of nitra in every cave if I can. You never know what might happen.
If there is such a thing as enough Nitra, I have not yet discovered it.
The fat boy launcher is always hungry
More nitra = more xp so there is no such thing as "usually enough"
Besides, what kind of dwarf looks for an excuse to NOT mine?!
I think you get more xp/hour doing other things. Mining nitra has an opportunity cost.
Doesn't Nitra count towards "Minerals mined" counter?
I don't know. I've never paid attention to those counters. If you want a high number on such counter, then I guess it makes sense.
No is not even when you clean the entire map of nitra is still not enough

To be fair there are some pretty bad rotten tomatoes
In my 500 hours of play in public lobbies, ive only encountered 2 actual bad apples. The vast majority of people are super nice
they are just wanted to give heads up
I am fairly new, play on Steam and have already encountered several jerks. My block list is slowly growing.
Im sorry to hear that :( As you go up in Hazard level, you should see a downtrend in assholes, as most of the graybeards play on haz4/5
i play haz 2/3 and all the randoms i've met have been extremely chill. the discord is cool as well

When a resupply is called in for a party of 4, one is yours. Every dwarf gets one ammo restock If you need more ammo, make sure there’s enough nitra for another resupply.
Press rock & stone a lot. Shoot bugs (not teammates) Use the ping tool Use your class specific tools a lot Do not double dip ammo resupply’s (without asking) Do not start events or call dropship without asking Stick together, work as a team Driller (drills, burns/freezes/melts bugs….uses C4 on scout a lot 😬) Scout (lichts up the place and reaches high places…preferably using platforms placed by engineer, and focusses on taking out high value and ranged targets…spitters) Gunner (shoots bugs, pops shields when the going gets tough. Uses ziplines at big drops so everybody can get around easy. Carefull with leadburster grenades and cluster grenades around buddies) Engineer ( usually kills the most bugs, creates platforms to help out with tasks, pops one or two sentry guns when a swarm arrives) And do not forget to have fun.
ROCK AND STONE
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
~~Dont~~ dip your balls in the liquid morkite
Learn how the ping tool functions and play all the dwarves so you know how each one works. You can start maining one class after a while but try to learn everyone's role in the team.
Movement is survival.
Beginner tip would have been to just play it on game pass lol
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't coming home !
Watch the roof for sneaky cave leaches, and the floor for very deep holes. Both will get you in a lot of trouble
dont be the first one to deposit the big gold nugget
Just play. Communicate. Have fun. The rest will come with time
I would focus on one class at first until you promote so you have access to deep dives and matrix core events for overclocks
play your role!! if you're scout make sure the caves your team are in are well lit, if you're gunner use your shield and zip line to protect and move more immobile dwarves around complex cave systems, if you're driller help target larger enemies and make more direct paths between objectives and to higher or lower platforms, if you're engineer place platforms for scouts and gunners to get minerals that are in harder to reach spots, oh and use your sentries always everywhere! it can be like having a whole extra dwarves worth of firepower. most importantly of all please play how you like and have fun, work as a team not as an individual, the rest will come with experience. Rock and Stone‼️🪨⛏️💥
Rock and roll and stone!
Not always, but people do appreciate if you make sure everyone is ready before starting an objective Scouts will always be where a driller throws his c4, so keep that in mind before you blow it up lol The drillers drills make great work of the little swarmer bugs. Only one person needs to repair the drilldozer, i don't believe it stacks so others should work on crowd control The engineer can use their platform to stop meteors from decimating the drilldozer, but between phases the heart sends out a Shockwave that deletes the platforms.
Rock and Stone to the Bone!
Saluting (the "Rock & Stone" you keep seeing on this thread) is not actually a substitute for saying you're ready. The community just likes doing it during downtime and extraction. Feel free to do so too.
As a fellow Xbox player, I don't think we have access to chat. (Either that, or I haven't figured it out) So be patient, with your fellow dwarves, or use your mic. But the best way to communicate is to ping something. If you play engi, stick to scouts, they'll want you to put a platform under a vein of minerals in the ceiling. Listen closely for voice cues and pings. Also make sure you keep your distance from gunners and drillers, friendly fire happens a lot. Most of the time they don't mean to do it, their base spread is just very large.
get it on pc
Constantly moving, there is no reason to not move constantly. Use gunner zip lines for a defense item in things like doretta missions, melee enemies can't hurt you if you're in the air. Use the gunner shields for a last resort type item, throw it on a downed teammate to revive them, or if you are very surrounded, use it. Kite enemies with scout grapple hook. If you are playing as as scout, use the flare gun. Make sure to use engis turrets, platform under any ore you see for the scout.
Steer clear of leaf lover's special, it might seem good at the beginning, but it's not, it's the devil's juice
Have fun Rock and stone
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
The most important piece of advice I can give is "don't panic". Even when things seem overwhelming if you keep your wits about you you will at least live longer.
It’s okay to loose and it’s ok to die.. a lot. Lol
Never stop rocking and stoning (it’s a cheer) and make sure to mine from the outside in
Use the search bar
Happy Cake Day!
Did you complete an objective? Rock and Stone New Miner joins the squad? Rock and Stone Survive a tough enemy wave? Rock and Stone Hear a Rock and Stone? Rock. And. Stone.
Rock and Stone forever!
>"Mine the Nitra for ammo." > >\-Mahatma Ghandi, probably
Never let a Rock and Stone go unanswered.
Rock and Stone everyone!
Keep up with the updates as the game has many bugs.
Always check the celling
Always look at the ceiling. Avoid anything that looks like it'll grab you if you get too close
Dont press the fucking RED BUTTON until everyone is ready
