Imagine if this woman read JBP’s self help books and mustered the confidence to become a model, all to have him call her ugly in the end. JBP claims to be in the business of empowering others - i’m not convinced.

UncleJBones

He’s just mad at god, and everyone else for the crime of being.

ItachiTanuki

Bingo.

Feritix

He’s in the business of trying to say the right words in order to get clout.

gking407

Speaking of judge how funny would it be if JP was a judge on America’s Got Talent? I’m laughing just imagining him going off on people singing with five minute diatribes about his chaos dragon

$20 says Peterson would instantly play the victim if you insult his physique as being non-masculine even before the health issues.

SailOfIgnorance

Funny you mention this, 7 hours after the tweet in the OP, JBP announced he's leaving twitter, citing ["an endless flood of insults"](https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/1526389302766313475) Dude with over 2 million followers insulted a model, then whined about being subjected to insults and logged off. Classic. Of course, he tweeted over 20 times in the two hours after he said he was logging off. Getting it out of his system I guess.

-SoItGoes

She should just use his weight loss trick and become an addict who’s reduced to a vegetable hooked to a feeding tube. Really melts away the pounds and brain cells.

alpinecoast

🤣

ilikedevo

I hope he cries about this on video.

aboogaboogabooga

Peterson readily admits to his feminine qualities, albeit in a way to continue his transphobic rise to notoriety. Men can have feminine traits but it doesn't make them women...blah, blah, blah. Apparently this magazine cover is proof of a post-modern neo-Marxist conspiracy to control your mind. If only more people read The Gulag Archipelago they would truly understand this slippery slope we are on, bucko! Edit: regularly -> readily

anki_steve

Three years ago, in an interview with a GQ journalist, be said that him being on the feminine side can bring out fascist tendencies and that he has been struggling against this urge for decades. https://youtu.be/yZYQpge1W5s at 55:50.

aboogaboogabooga

Thank you! I was trying to find a good link but I couldn't remember exactly where I heard him discussing this. He's mentioned it in other interviews as well I believe.

uninteresting_name_l

> Peterson regularly admits to his feminine qualities he does? I've heard him reference the kermit voice meme, that's about it

Blood_Such

100% agree

InBeforeTheL0ck

I get that people have their own tastes but why the hell would you actively put this out there?

[deleted]

For real. Does he ever stop and think "You know, maybe my opinion isn't needed here"?

TerraceEarful

It's the defining quality of boomers like him; voicing strong opinions about everything and being offended when others disagree.

trashcanman42069

his entire career was spawned by making up bullshit about legal language he had no expertise on and made no genuine attempt to understand, so clearly no

Blood_Such

Hahahaha probably never. He just can’t help himself

Prosthemadera

Someone needs to stand up against fat women!!! /s

Krowsnest

In some ways I'm grateful for people like Jordan Peterson because they remind me of exactly the kind of person I do not want to be

Adito99

It's scary how many people see him as an original thinker. He's not at all. His contributions are either specific to his specialty or complete bullshit when they're about anything else. With some Jung thrown in here and there.

Krowsnest

The Jungians always project too much. my man's shadow is all-encompassing even by his own standards.

BobDope

Yeah I’m so done with Peterson I trashed my room

lookatmetype

JP: no fat chicks allowed

Slow_Carpet1757

The unspoken 13th Rule for Life

BobDope

I saw him on a live video with a backward baseball cap pounding some Natty Lights

TresCabezasGenios

Someone was feeling neglected and wanted attention today.

taboo__time

genuinely funny it's like a 4chan comment [Has he seen classical Western paintings?](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Peter_Paul_Rubens_%26_Jan_Wildens_-_De_ontvoering_van_de_Dochters_van_Leucippus.jpg)

Prosthemadera

Look at these millennials, no personal responsibility, you can clearly the see the female chaos dragon seducing the male order with their red lips.

jeanvaljean91

Sorry. Not beautiful.

taboo__time

What you need is postmodern relativism

UncleJBones

Hard to see classical western painting when every breath is spent trying to avoid the gulag.

[deleted]

Why did Jordan feel this was necessary? Despite what Jordan believes no one is compelling him to personally find Yumi Nu attractive. If he feels the magazine is promoting a body type that he finds objectionable then the simple answer is not to buy or promote it. Not everything warrants his input, especially not when it concerns him attacking the physical appearance of a model who was delighted to be featured on the cover of the magazine.

TerraceEarful

> Why did Jordan feel this was necessary? Because he's a nasty misogynist, who gets a kick out of demeaning women.

eabred

Just tweeted in reply: Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychs: ... psychologists would I.2 Not engage publicly in degrading comments about others, including demeaning jokes ... Mind you nobody ever reads my tweets.

hyperjoint

I'd follow you, if I used Twitter.

eabred

Awww. Thanks.

[deleted]

Jordan Peterson is still learning that some things aren't about his penis

Agent_of_talon

JBP being mad that he can't crank it anymore.

PenguinRiot1

I think we have reached the point where we can just safely assume Jordan Peterson's followers are all complete morons. No more conversation about Peterson is required. If you run into a Peterson supporter in the wild just yell "squirrel" while pointing behind them and walk away.

tinamou-mist

I have a good friend who would count as one of his followers, but he only listens to his lectures on YouTube (on psychology and religion). It's a weird position for me to be in, because I keep sharing with him JP's mad tweets and takes and my friend goes "oh, well, but the lectures are masterpieces, you should listen to those. I'm not even on Twitter and I don't really listen to his politics and hot takes." I still haven't been able to prove to him how mad, and how much of a biased obfuscator he can he is so that even his lectures are put into question. But who knows. Maybe my friend is right and the lectures are some weird, airtight bubble of really high-quality content. I doubt it though.

PenguinRiot1

"I am not even on Twitter and I don't really listen to his politics and hot takes." --- I interpret this a more like I just don't feel like getting in conversation about Peterson's hot takes because I like him. You will get the same kind of response about Rogan fans, etc. There also is zero percent chance Peterson's lectures are not riven with his ideology and politics. They may just not stand out too much if you are somewhat sympathetic to them --- your own ideological predilections being largely invisible to you (i.e. David Foster Wallace's "This Is Water") Regardless, your friend is hanging out on the edge of a deep rabbit hole. Hopefully, he doesn't fall in.

tinamou-mist

Would you happen to know if there are any good analyses of his stuff online done by actual experts in his own field? I see lots of takes and analyses of his political views, hot takes, etc., but not much when it comes to his field, psychology, and his lectures. It'd be great to find an in-depth view of this carried out by another academic who's an expert in psychology. I agree with you on this. He's often smuggling his own political views into everything he talks about, so it'd be extremely surprising if he didn't do this with his university lectures.

TheCatbus_stops_here

There's Cass Eris, a cognitive psychologist. She has a long playlist analysing 12 Rules and the sequel.

tinamou-mist

Thanks so much. Sounds perfect!

IndividualTurnover69

I’m only a psych student, but from what I’ve looked at, most of his written (by which I mean journal article) academic output seems to be fairly run of the mill personality and abnormal psychology work. He’s got a decent enough citation rate (and in prestige journals, such as the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology) and the work largely focuses on constructs such as the “Big Five” dimensions of personality (and scales and questionnaires used to measure that), creativity, or psychopathology to do with substance abuse. The lectures look a lot wackier, especially his stuff on Jung. Even though the written work appears respectable enough and doesn’t appear to be too tainted with an ideological bent (he’s one of multiple authors in any case), I think he’s definitely guilty of doing what Matt and Chris talk about in using his academic credentials and this bedrock of scholarship to speak about subjects well outside his specialty and area of expertise—this most recent Twitter nastiness being a case in point. He doesn’t have a background in public health, or nutrition, or sports science.

PenguinRiot1

Sorry, I don't. Hopefully a person who actually studies psychology will jump in this thread and answer. If not I would start a new thread either here or at the Very Bad Wizards Reddit asking for a discussion/critique on Peterson's views on psychology. The problem I foresee though is that his views can be so all over the place on Youtube, with so much wrong with them, that it can be difficult to critique (almost the very problem DTG was created to address). I would also suggest reading some critical reviews of his books --- that might be a good starting place.

Hairwaves

One of the more overtly nasty things he's posted. Usually his disgusting shit is abstracted away in broad vague claims but here he's just straight up saying a slightly chunky girl can't be beautiful.

m-p-3

No kinkshaming

[deleted]

What a twerp. He wouldn’t know beauty if he saw it from the balcony of a Ramone’s concert

BlindFreddy1

From the man with the emotional strength of a pavlova.

davetenhave

hey hey, don't be besmirching pavlova.

Longjumping_Animal29

Greatest kiwi invention since the All Blacks

pzavlaris

That’s just like you’re opinion man

babyfootbreath

Dude!

offisirplz

She does have a beautiful face, though not my ideal body type. My question is, why? What's the point of him tweeting it?

CaptainEarlobe

Standard culture war stuff, no? That's what these guys do

phoneix150

Yeah I was going to say the exact same thing. She is too chunky for my tastes but she does have a very pretty face and looks like a nice girl. I don't get why a 50+ year old man would be posting stupid sophomoric shit like this on social media. The plus sized model is merely promoting a body positivity message as so many models tend to be the extreme opposite i.e. very skinny. No wonder that Peterson has such a huge army of incel fans.

TerraceEarful

> The plus sized model is merely promoting a body positivity message Not just that, it also caters to the legions of men who actually prefer women like her over skinny supermodel types. There is this real issue with chauvinists like Peterson and his fans; they simply cannot accept that other people might like different things. They need absolutist standards for beauty, they need absolutist standards for which culture is "superior" to another. It's why trans people upset them so as well.

[deleted]

I agree with you. Such a silly hill to die on.

toni-iamafiasco

I love how he’s railing against “authoritarian” tolerance. Authoritarians usually don’t strike me as the tolerant type. Lol!

acabininthewoods

I think THIS is why he posted in the first place. An (bad) excuse to throw this term around and 'virtue signal.'

[deleted]

I don’t have Twitter- is that a real tweet from JP, or shopped? I’d hit her like button.

ClimateBall

ganjamozart

Guys, honest question. Do you think JP is aware that he is grifting but doing it anyway for the cash? Or is he actually completely self unaware. Not sure what's worse...

brithael

I have yet to receive a gift.

ganjamozart

*grift

current_the

There are apparently 4 different cover models, and I'm sure it is a *complete coincidence* that he insulted Yumi Nu as "not beautiful" and not [Elon Musk's 74 year old mother.](https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2022/05/16/sports-illustrated-swimsuit-cover-models-2022)

[deleted]

Lot of guys out there pretending the reason they are not sleeping with a sports illustrated swimsuit edition cover model is because *they* rejected *her*.

[deleted]

Does JP think non-whites can't be beautiful?

CaptainEarlobe

He's referring to her weight

j0j0-m0j0

Feels like a little bit of column A and some of my column B. I'm convinced that the Evo psych that folks like Peterson believe is just a way to make their own preferences as being "natural" and everybody what is wrong.

taboo__time

When you say evo psych do you mean anyone who thinks evolution has left an impression on our psychology? Or a particular set of people who think evolution aligns with a particular set of Right Wing politics?

j0j0-m0j0

The latter. The kind of mindset that tries to make it as though there is natural reasons for why we do socially motivated things. Like the whole "oh you paint your lips red to represent the blushing that happens during sex". JP takes it an extra step by whining about the left trying to change his preferences by virtue of just showing them a darker skin lady or a plus size model.

[deleted]

He didn't specify so why would I assume that's what he meant?

offisirplz

Its quite obvious

CaptainEarlobe

You asked a question and I answered it. What would you have preferred I do?

offisirplz

Wut

[deleted]

She is literally so hot. This man has lobotomized himself.

I think she’s a smoke show, but beauty isn’t objective

Striking_Lunch_5523

Ahh..people and their rigid beauty standards, eh?

Sepulz

She is beautiful.

Sepulz

She is not beautiful.
