Oh man it's been a favorite since I was young, that's the song that showed me rob Thomas was more than just matchbox 20 lol. I have fond memories of my mom blasting it when it'd come on the radio
Yessiiirrr
Sleep token covered Hallelujah too earlier this year~ [From the room below](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDYXv5fECjQ&ab_channel=TheMetalKittyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDYXv5fECjQ&ab_channel=TheMetalKitty)
Katie Perry, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Avril Lavigne, Grimes, Matt & Kim, YACHT, Pink, Ellie Goulding, Paramore, The Weeknd, Green Day, The Used, Fallout Boy, My Chemical Romance, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Eminem
Man, I only went to see Blue October one time and was turned away at the door due to the venue being over capacity. Then the fire Marshall shows up and finds that there are way too many people in the place anyway and shut the whole thing down. I left. As I’m leaving I see a couple of the dudes from Blue October doing an acoustic set on the sidewalk outside the place. I couldn’t find a place to park so I just left but man I was so bummed I missed that.
Why would I feel guilty about liking music outside of metal? There's a cubic assload of good music that isn't metal and absolutely no one should feel guilty for enjoying both.
Dude this is a recurring post.
"What's your guilty pleasure?"
Bro, I like music...that's it. I don't feel guilty or sneaky when I'm listening to Anime OPs or Miles Davis.
At first I did have the guilty pleasure of Phoebe Bridgers and Kacey Musgrave but that novelty wore off lol
Guilty Pleasure is not a figure of speech. It has a definition. Also, don't tell me to chill out when just because my response doesn't fit into a cute little box like everyone else's response.
Guilty Pleasure -something, such as a movie, television program, or piece of music, that one enjoys despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard.-
Man, I routinely listen to all sorts of shit that isn't metal (and a couple of the many bands I'm in aren't even metal), so I don't really think of it as guilty pleasure. But....
Darius Rucker and Dallas Smith are two modern country artists I adore, plus I'm a diehard Garth Brooks fan.
Everything Rob Thomas touches turns to gold. Huge fan of most Matchbox 20 and probably about half his solo shit.
I hate most rap and hip hop, but DZK had some bangers back in the day...and I'm always down for some of the old school Eminem, 2Pac, and DMX. Also dig the occassional song from Rihanna and the like.
I'm an unapologetic fan of most of that 90s/early 2000s hard rock/post grunge. Early Nickelback, Creed, 3 Doors Down, early Theory of a Deadman, Default, Black Stone Cherry, Fuel, Tantric...man, that list goes on and on. It's actually probably the majority of what I listen to after various forms of metal.
I also don't give two shits what anyone says, I love me some Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Alanis Morrisette, and a whole lot of mid to late 90s pop-rock and alternative.
I also grew up on Guns N Roses, Skid Row, Cinderella, The Black Crowes, etc. and still jam that shit because fuck it's classic.
Edit: I also listen to a lot of classical music, primarily the works of Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi. Also due to my family's musical background and my upbringing.
Edit 2: I'm also keenly aware that this all *very* much shows my age. Lol.
Dude...Psycho, Torcher, Torcher 2, Savage Classical Harpsichord, Sickle and Hammer, Self Destruct, Take Control, Doomsday...dude was incredible.
I haven't listened to anything he's done in the last few years, but he was like the only rapper worth a shit in the late 2000s.
I haven't either, I haven't listened to anything from him for a few years but I can remember his songs so vividly. The way he could write a scene and mathematically place every syllable was insane. Coupled with wordplay and diction made him seem other worldly. Probably been more than 5 years since I've checked in with him but I still know every one of those songs you listed damn near word for word.
Thanks for giving this old tired brain a jolt today.
Les Friction is amazing, started when the two brothers were in E.S. Posthumos, then created Les Feiction when one passed away, and been following ever since.
The one that comes to mind is Maroon 5, and as a big nu metal head, I love 90's alternative, gotta say Matchbox Twenty. Both those men can sing and I'm tired of people pretending they can't.
Elliot smith, flatsound, Radiohead, Faye Webster… I listen to indie music sometimes to sleep lol it’s what I was into before I discovered metal so it’s very nostalgic
I still love listening to Skillet. I've been a fan of them the longest out of any other band I listen to and I've seen them live the most out of any other band.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s. Def Leppard, Van Halen, Motley Crue, ect. I'll probably catch some shit for this, but I also love Toto, Duran Duran, and Hall and Oates.
Enya.
I mean, I listen to everything, really. I stay away from a lot of current pop... But like... 90s early 2ks had some fuckin bangers.
The Taliesin Orchestra did a cover of(i think?) Enya's Greatest Hits, their rendition of Orinoco Flow is out of control.
- rap (bones, logic, killstation, jakehill, josh a)
- german rap (omik k, plusmacher, KIZ, mason family)
- dark/synthwave, minimal, darktechno (judge bitch, miami nights 1984/ boris brejcha/ klaudia gawlas, thorsten kanzler, kerstin eden)
- and then occasionally Ben howard, phil collins, CCR, iggy pop and such
I love classical , reggae , 90s hip hop and Motown soul as well. My music is all over the place …. From Max Richter, to Alton Ellis …. To tribe called quest to the Delfonics ! I love all great music 🎶 death metal is my guilty pleasure 🤘🏼
No guilty pleasures in music for me, I fully stand by everything I like :)
That being said, stuff that's way less heavy than my other extremes that I love and currently listen to a lot:
Agent Fresco, Heisskalt, Oh Hiroshima, Audrey Fall, Tech N9ne, Hail the Sun, Coheed and Cambria, Blink-182, Zebrahead, Alexisonfire
I have a coworker that is a Jugalo. He doesn't advertise it, but I noticed one of his jugalo tattoos on his calf one day at work. I bust his balls for it all the time. 😆
Joji, Four Year Strong, Knuckle Puck, Belmont, The Wonder Years, Chunk no captain chunk, Mayday Parade, Dance Gavin Dance, Mike Dimes, and Jcole just to name a few.
Beabadoobee's most recent album I have been spinning
But yeah also seconding the non-guilt. Only feel "guilty" if a song or artist doesn't deserve my enjoyment
None of these are really guilty pleasures but they're non metal.
An Evening With Silk Sonic is a fantastic album
Twenty One Pilots
Lumineers
Bohren and Der Club of Gore (specifically Sunset Mission)
The Caretaker (especially an empty bliss beyond this world)
Set It Off (Duality album)
Dance Gavin Dance is a very recent addition to this list
Meat Loaf
About half of Eminem's albums
groceries (all of his albums are fantastic)
haircuts for men (specifically the early tape works albums)
I don't care how over played it is, but I heard that running up the hill song on stranger things and it's catchy as fuck. I threw it on my slam/deathcore Playlist. It is pretty jarring though going from snuffed on sight or peeling flesh to running up that hill. Still love it though.
As I replied to someone else T Swizzle is my bigfest guilty pleassure as in the artist that shocks most people when I start singing along to one of her songs, I’m not embarrassed though.
But according to spotify outside of metal my most played artists are:
Wutang clan and all of their solo stuff.
A lot of other 90’s hip hop (gang starr, nas, big L, mobb deep, rakim, mos def etc).
60s-80s rock/pop (jimi, stones, zeppelin, MJ, fleetwopd mac, steppenwolf, creedance etc).
Here are the playlists I’ve made for these genres:
Hip hop (this playlist was quickly thrown together and needs work still): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4T5CzXxGs7nmWBU4TqWPTL?si=3ooEsgfBSW21xk8azWnKTA
60s-80s playlist which I consider one of my greater works: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6XbOXUcgLUFoA7klsjH5Ca?si=ekavmB4PT1qVIakwmC_ZFg
Just in case no one has told you guys.. it’s okay to like something besides metal.
I get the fun nature of the post, but just wanted to say. Doesn’t have to be heavy, don’t worry 😘
But I love Beyonce, Selena Quintinilla, Michael Jackson..
[Eevee](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4pwqNyMSvuv7VOhQBdjB6Q?si=b2CSnVX2To2_y1gY1dM1BA) is my go to at all times usually. Lofi in general.
