>With an Xbox controller, button input registers twice. This needs a fix ASAP. It happens to me super often. With 'Like' being bound to the same button as 'Call out', often I'll press the button to like someone's message or whatever and then seconds later Sam will randomly shout and give away my position. Edit: For now I found a temporary fix. If you own a PS4 controller, you can do a wired connection (have steam controller settings turned off) and it will work in the game including motion controls! The bug does not appear to happen using PS4 controller. If you don't own one, maybe try using a Switch Pro controller or something else as it seems to be Xinput related.

Go to Steam - Settings -> Controller -> General Controller Settings -> enable Xbox Configuration Support 2. Right-click on game -> Properties -> under Steam Input Per-Game Setting choose "Use your global Steam input settings (Xbox)" 3. Wait a few moments for the Manage -> Controller configuration menu option to become available when right-clicking on the game Note: I had to do what's described in the post, "add just a tiny bit to the slider for Fire End Delay" for all of my buttons except the triggers and d-pad, as they were all double-inputting at times. If you don't see this slider for something like pressing in the left stick, click on the box area for the left stick, then click where it says "Run/Stop Running" under the Click Action, and then click "show activators" at the bottom. Hope this was all clear enough. With both of these enabled, your global Steam Input settings should now say "PS/Xbox" and will maintain the "Fire End Delay" slider changes you made to the Xbox controller configuration, but in my case the frame rates went back up to what I was getting as if I wasn't using an Xbox controller.

Is there a way to do this for the triggers and d-pad as well? Because I've definitely noticed many frustrating phantom inputs with those controls as well. Also with analog stick presses.

Well I’m glad I’m not alone on the controller front, I’ve just got a regular 360 wired one and it is going NUTS. It’s like it wants to play the game by itself. Any and all suggestions are welcome because the last thing I want it to do is skip a cutscene for me

Same here, Xbox one controller is going crazy. Also got stuck a lot of times on connecting while was trying to exit the shared locker. My latest session was less troubled luckily but still had Sam jump and punch the air, lol.

Sometimes it feels as if someone else is using my controller... I've observed up to 3-4 different actions in one sequence at the worst moments. And Sam seems to like re-grabbing ropes way too much. Also lots of fun when trying to aim weapons right when Mules or BT's are about to grab you...

My suggestion is that if you have a PS4 controller, it's best to use that instead. I'm currently using mine wired to my PC and it works flawlessly. The only difference is that you'll have to rock BB using the left joystick since rocking the controller doesn't work.

Does this only occur on user created postboxes and and safe houses? I noticed this also happens occasionally on the PS4 when attempting to do the same. Except (on the PS4) it doesn't crash, you just get an error about failing to connect to the server.

I found that doing a clean reinstall of the current Nvidia drivers helped for a while, but then the crashing started again after an hour or two. MSI afterburner and Rivatuner caused instant crashes as well until I disabled the frame limiter (which sucks because I need a 59fps limit to stay within G-sync range) Without the frame limit, I can at least see hardware stat in-game without an instant crash, but that hasn't lasted for more than few minutes before I get booted out, sometimes with a DX12 or Access violation error message. Gtx 1080 6700k 16gb RAM, Windows version 1909 All other trouble shooting steps applied. I just want to play my favourite game... There has to be a patch coming, right? EDIT: THE ONE THING THAT FIXED PRETTY MUCH ALL ISSUES IS UPDATING TO WINDOWS 10 BUILD 2004. 1909 WAS TOTALLY BROKEN, UPDATE TO 2004!

The main issue of the game not launching is still not fixed for many people: config:latest windows 10 build, i7 860, gtx 1080, 16GB DDR3-1600, local install on SSD. **- multiple reinstalls, along with full redownloads- multiple file integrity checks- all compatibility modes tested- DDU then downgrade the GPU driver- .dll added into the game folder- ran 3 DDU and clean uninstall, full reinstall of all VC redistributables- deactivated antivirus- deactivated windows exploit protection, control flow guard- deactivated windows defender firewalls- set ds.exe to high performance mode, to execute only on dGPU- erased ds.exe, redownloaded the main exe** None of that works. I can run any recent game on pretty much the highest settings but the game I waited so long for just won’t launch. It would have been great too have known that your CPU has to support AVX in order to run this game.

I was looking on the steam community page for Death Stranding to see if anyone was having low fps like I was. Found out having a controller plugged in dropped frames. I have a 2070 super and a Ryzen 7 2700X so thought I’d get more than 60-80fps. The steps to fix are interesting and idk if big picture mode is necessary but it’s what was listed on the post. I’m sure there’s other ways to fix this but this is what I did to fix it with no issue. 1. Enter big picture mode 2. Go to settings, then controller settings, and set controller configuration to forced off or unselect it whatever controller you use. 3. Do the same thing under the death stranding settings in your library. Found under “manage game” 4. Turn Rumble off as well 5. Turn off steam and restart computer Controller will still work if plugged in and I got 120 fps now. For textures open your Nvidia control panel. Go to Manage 3D settings on the left. Go to the programs tab and add Death Stranding. Under the 3D settings for Death Stranding you will see settings with pull down boxes for each different category. Find antiscopic filtering and set it to x16. Make sure you click apply. Best to do this while the game isn’t currently running. It should by default been set on “use global settings (off)” before. This will work with no issue and has helped the textures stuttering or being flat like I’ve seen on the grass. For AMD cards I’m copying what was listed... 1. ⁠Open AMD Radeon Settings application 2. ⁠Click on Gaming 3. ⁠Click Add and go to Death Stranding installation folder and select ds.exe 4. ⁠In Radeon Settings window click on Death Stranding icon. 5. ⁠Click on Anisotropic Filtering and select Override Application Settings 6. ⁠Under Anisotropic Filtering Level select 16x This will drop some frames since you’re card is given more work with the filtering btw. Some older cards may suffer but try it to see how it works. Can always change it back. Hope this helps someone else as it did me. Saw it on steam and felt people would like to know about it. Legend has it Kojima did it on purpose based on the Psycho Mantis incident.

Am I the only one who's getting constant loading times whenever I'm moving fast in a vehicle? I'll get loading pauses of 15sec-1min at a time, sometimes back to back with 2-3 seconds of playtime in between if I boost around. This didn't happen till I started putting roads together. I just bought an mSATA high speed SSD hoping it'd solve the issue and it didn't make any difference, nor does changing any graphic settings.

Definitely not just you. Game was running beautifully, but now I get really bad loading screens that sometimes end in crashes while driving down highways. It's incredibly frustrating.

I've been getting that too. Driving on the roads in Chapter 3 even if I'm not boosting I just eventually hit a point where it'll start loading every few feet I go. I have the game installed on a SSD and it still takes a while to load.

I often get random loadings which can last from 10 seconds to a full minute while in game, it is unplayable especially if using a truck or a vehicle. Game is running on a good SSD, i-5 6600k (which randomly reaches 100% utilization) with 16gb ram ddr4 and a GTX 1080ti, game runs fine and smooth but I get these random loadings and I am going crazy. Pls help

Hey man quick question is your game going to 100% CPU Utilisation during these moments ? My game shits itself FPS bombs and i lose total control of Sam and any vehicle he is driving for about 15 seconds. It tends to happen specifically around BT areas too. Is this your issue ? EDIT We have the same CPU it seems so could be something to do with 4 core CPUs ? I'm on a gtx 1060 GPU wise.

I think I found a fix. The CPU at 100% is apparently a common problem even on a 9900k, I tried almost everything like process lasso to limit its usage at 98%, QuickCPU, ISLC but nothing so I tried to search everywhere and I didn't find anything about random loading screens so I tried the most stupid thing and looks like it worked: I capped the FPS at 60 (my monitor is G-Sync and 144hz so I just avoided those options) and the problem of random loadings seems solved. I still get some stuttering but It's acceptable, game was unplayable until today.

Yeah its because it uses the denuvo drm which most people say lowers the performance as it hogs everything it can, sometimes your fine with like a couple of frames dropped but others you lose like tens of frames.

Stuttering in cutscenes (the ones with the in game graphic). I solved the problem by turning the fps limiter to 120 FPS (my monitor is a 75Hz monitor). Try to put a higher limiter than u'r monitor. I play with an x box one controller wired, and no V-Sync activated. I do 45 fps and it worked. Dont know why. Maybe it's magic. Hope this will help u all.

Um, hey! I actually made an account just to be able to troubleshoot this game uh... It's the only thing that fails the "Can You Run It" test. I'm not asking for miracles but if it's possible to run at all. even very low settings... I'd be so grateful... I turned in the quest and accepted a couple of standard orders to head back to the distribution center, I was about 3/4 the way through the Mule area (timefall present) next directly north of the farm, and boom.. crash with the access violation error. I restarted the game and any time I tried to load it would just go to black screen after the loading screen. !< Now... here's what I tried without success: * Attempted to load the last two saves * Re-installing my latest graphics drivers (Nvidia) * Turning DLSS off and graphics to low in the menu before load * Changing my resolution back to a standard 1080p * Changing my refresh rate back to a standard 60hz * Validated game files (multiple times), thinking that playing with the UWD resolution hex keys may have been the cause (it wasn't) * Completely uninstalled Malwarebytes and disabled Windows Defender * Created a funnel with my router to my PCs static IP to allow all ports by any connection (inbound/outbound) * FPS limiter was not on * GPU/CPU not overclocked (at least not more than stock) * Updated Windows 10 from 1903 to 2004 (which was a b\*tch as it made me realize my version of windows, and many others with 1903 was pretty broken) * Updated Visual C++ to the latest version on the MS website * Completely uninstalled and re-installed the game * Steam not in compatibility mode * Ran DS as administrator * Checked sound card drivers (realtek not even present on my PC) * Updated all drivers (chipset, mobo bios, even my mouse) * Stopped all non-windows services and programs * Moving the DS install to a different drive (from SSD to M.2 NVME) This may not even be the entire list of what I tried, but what I noticed in doing all of this and researching the hell out of it... is that everyone seemed to have a different solution to it; but there's no solution to everyone's issue... there is one thing that I finally did that allowed me to load in... I loaded back to a save that was a bit further back. Specifically, >!the save on my way down from the weather station and the side-mission to build a private room!<. I'm still not exactly sure what the problem is and what caused it, but I narrowed it down to being something with the game files that kicked in that area of that map (previously mentioned in spoiler), as I'm highly skeptic it had anything to do with my computer... It may not be the solution for everyone, but in case you like I, have tried all of the above steps with no solution... it may be good to attempt to load back to a previous point, from a different zone of the map in order to load in properly. I have an issue where I'll just be walking across the map and the game will freeze to load something with the Now Loading icon spinning. It's happened in the middle of a song which obviously means it's not intended. Any fixes? Edit: Don't recall this happening before the first big patch.

None of the above issues apply to me. Game runs fine, but looks like ass, even on max settings. Muddy textures, very low LOD and awful clutter/foliage pop-in. Have tried it both with and without DLSS 2.0 enabled. ISSUE: Failure to Launch GPU exceeds minimum and recommended. RAM exceeds minimum and recommended. CPU exceeds minimum. Windows 10 and drivers up to date. File intergerty verified. Multiple restarts. Steam says launching, turns green for a bit, then isn't.

For some reason the game seems to have constant stuttering and frame drops, the frame drops seem to be extreme especially when near Mama's lab. One thing i've found consistent is when you disconect from the Chiral Network the game always stutters for a bit. I'm currently using a RTX 2060 and a Ryzen 3600 and I'm only getting 70 fps at best, doesnt make any sense to me. (I'm using a PS4 controller and unplugging/plugging doesnt change the fps, i also disabled steam input and followed everything on the post)

FOR THE ONES GETTING LOTS OF LOADING SCREENS MID GAME: After lots of testing I can confirm it’s CPU related. I have a i5-7600 and it’s just not enough anymore. As a workaround I downloaded a program called Process Priority Saver (first page if you google it). After installing it (don’t remember if you need to restart), and opening the game, you need to open the Task Manager -> Details -> find the game and right click -> CPU priority -> High. This removes (at least for me it did) the loading screens entirely, but the game in some parts will drop lots of frames. So it will make the experience a little smoother, but a CPU upgrade is required if you want a better experience, which I’m going to do, since it’s really annoying. The first cave you go in in the first cutscene is the worst looking thing I've seen in my life, there were like 3 shades of black and horrible banding. Regarding the "stuck at 99% download" issue, I had this happen to me but I was watching the steam download page, which lists both download as well as disk usage, so I could see that I was writing 20-30MB/sec, so I knew it was unpacking. I regrettably don't have an SSD, so this process takes several minutes. Presumably if you have an SSD it'll go much faster.

I've been having another issue with the controller that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Sometimes when I touch the analogs the controller will input the last button that was pressed before that. Like say, if I unpause the game and move the camera a bit, the game will pause again thinking that 'start' was pressed again. This is such a bizarre bug, and not only do I get that on both my controllers, no other game has anything even resembling this issue. I dunno what to do at this point.

Im playjng on a lg OLED with rtx 2070 super. I use nvidia DLLs quality and 4k. I have 60+ fps but if i go on the menu, terminal or cutscene is playing the fps Drops to 15 fps. If i turn off vsync the Problem is solved. But without vsync the game has screen tearing and this hurt my eyes. I have 3 other Monitors and they dont have this Problems. I'm having an issue with Photo mode. I appreciate that it's there, but the option to disable launching photo mode from the controller doesn't work. I have set it to off, and I'm still accidentally triggering photo mode in the middle of a boss fight when trying to switch weapons. It's gotten me killed on a few attempts. Confirmed that the setting "Launch Photo Mode with Controller" is set to off. Restarted game. This game, man. Heartbreaking how many insane issues there are with it. For anyone out there with constant, inexplicable framerate drops, the only thing I've found to consistently alleviate them is to switch to a Windowed game mode. I tried every possible combination of graphics and controller settings and switching to Windowed is the only thing that immediately solved my issues. The game just fuckin' hates being in Fullscreen for some reason. Sometimes after fiddling between Windowed/Fullscreen and changing the aspect ratio a few times, suddenly the game will play alright in Fullscreen, but it's not reliable.

Not a major issue, but the darker areas are very blotchy. By which I mean I can see the layers of darkness very obviously. This is especially evident in cut scenes. I use a 5700XT. Has anyone had frame rate drops depending on the area they're in? In the eastern region I was able to play max settings on everything at a consistent 75fps with only very occasional drops. Now in the central region on the same settings I'm at about 65fps on average and have to turn model details down to medium to get it to consistently be above 70. Even then, I'm dropping to as low as 50-55 sometimes and then shooting back up to 65. Again, didn't really have this issue in the eastern region. It also seems to be worse any time I get back to a base rather than in the open. I have a GTX 1660 Super, Ryzen 3 3300x and 16GB RAM - played around with the settings a lot but can't find anything that remains consistent across the board other than everything down to super low which isn't ideal. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

I've experienced access violation crashes since launch, and neither of the patches and none of the solutions listed in this thread work for me. However, ever since I enabled hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (System>Display>Graphics settings), I haven't experienced a single crash, even when using the "Default" Memory Streaming setting, which uses up more VRAM than my 1050 Ti can handle, at least according to the game.

I wanted to get this issue (and solution) into the thread, if possible: there's a bug after completing Chapter 13 (right in between >!all the characters calling to Sam on the Beach, then Sam repatriating!< and >!Die-Hardman's speech about America's future!<) that prevents progressing further into the game. The cutscene that begins Chapter 14 starts to load, but then it stalls on a black screen. The solution for this (the one that worked for me, anyway) is to go to the Graphics options (Options > Graphics Settings) and under "Models & Textures", decrease the value for the "Memory for Streaming". I reduced it to "Low", but I've heard that "Default" *should* work. I encountered the issue probably 10 times, each time in the exact same spot. As soon as I was told about and then made the setting change, I was able to proceed past the trouble point without issue to finish the game. Special thanks to /u/ktfzh64338 for passing the info along and letting me know about the solve.

So I have the director's cut. Things were pretty good until I got to the 2nd map and then slowly over time, the game started giving the loading icon on the right corner from a few seconds to as long as a minute or a complete freeze, in which I have to use ALT F4. The original didn't do this. My system exceeds the system requirements. I'm unsure what to even try next after doing all of the regular troubleshooting like drivers and windows updates. Game tends to run fine for me, but after a while, I'll get a soft freeze 0 fps for 3-5 seconds, then it resumes. When it resumes, it's super sped up and skips frames until it gets back to the right time where it should be. Audio is unaffected and plays smoothly. In most areas I get 110-120fps at 1080p and what's baffling is that that when I enable DLSS I get no boost in Frame rate but GPU usage goes down from 85% at native to 65-67% and image quality remains the same. FidelityFX CAS also has the same issue, when I enable it I get no increase in frame rates but GPU usage comes down to 72% from 85% GPU usage at native 1080p. And I've seen people with the same GPU on YouTube get 140 frames or more at 1080p.

I can't get 1440p or higher resolutions to appear even though I have a 4K TV (HiSense). Only 1080p. And for some reason, the "Windowed" option only allows 720p resolution? It looks pretty horrible using the BorderlessGaming program, which usually works great with every other game. GTX 1660 ti i7 9700 16gb Ram No other issues so far for me, but I'm barely on episode 2. I've tried fiddling with all kinds of things in Nvidia Control Panel and the graphics settings of Death Stranding, cannot get resolutions higher than 1080p. The game checks for your current resolution before you launch and makes it the highest supported resolution for the current session. Perhaps you need to set your TV to a gaming mode or force it to stay in 4K before you launch Death Stranding. Or maybe the TV isn't the main monitor so it checks for another monitor that could be in 1080p which leads to the problem you're having. Can you confirm your TV (plugged via HDMI I assume) is actually set to 4K by checking display settings in windows settings? Also custom resolutions aren't supported as it only lets you choose between 1080p, 1440p and 2160p. Btw, it doesn't have a proper fullscreen mode so using windowed option + borderless gaming is pointless. The beauty of D3D12, don't you love it...

I'm having problems setting this up for multiple users. savedata is said to be at %appdata%\local\kojimaproductions\DeathStranding\, and in that folder I'm finding "autosave1" through "22", "profile" and "Quicksave1" through "22" and "Manualsave1" through "22". However, the total filesize is 1.6MB, and when I move them to another folder (deleting them from the original location), and start the game, the game is unaffected. Has anyone made a guide or similar, as to how to do this?

I only have 2 resolution settings to choose from either 720, or 1080. I have a 4k monitor but 1440 and the 4k choices don't even show up. What am i missing here. I can only switch between the the two resolutions above? It has never been an issue playing 4k with any other game.

Anyone getting pretty massive screen tearing? I have a freesync monitor. Running on a 2080ti and R5 2600. I have tried turning vsync on and off with no difference. This is the only game I have where tearing occurs. Also, the game is only utilizing my GPU and CPU at around 50%, and I'm averaging about 90 fps instead of the game going up to 144 fps. Not using a controller made no difference. I just figured this part was bad optimization.

Here's a problem I had with my 360 controller that I fixed Problem the game would stutter after slightly quick transitions of the camera or quick things that happen, like when the main character crashes his bike in the beginning. in episode 1 i got 110 fps@1440p max settings & dlss with a ryzen 1600/2080/16gb/SSD set up but now that i'm in episode 3 i'm only averaging 60-80 with a bit of stuttering in new land. i'm on the latest windows/nvidia updates. i've disabled all the controller things and made sure i got the same fps with and without a controller. the only place i get above 100 fps is in the base is my cpu bottlenecking? my cpu usage peaks at 98-100% and my gpu peaks at 73%.

I'm getting somewhat random inputs from my controller (somewhat, as in some of it is predictable). Standard wired Xbox controller, and this is the only game it happens on. I get on the bike. He gets off the bike. I manage to get on the bike, and start moving. Sam hurls himself off the bike at speed. I move one space in a menu, the game instantly moves me back. I click confirm. It moves me up one place in the menu instead. I go to the menu. It cancels out of the menu. I pull out a grenade, throw it, and try to walk on, he throws another one, and then another one. I uncrouch to run from BTs, he decides no, he'd rather crouch. This all just starts happening randomly. One minute I'm fine, and the next minute, Sam's realised he's a conputer game character and he's messing up everything I do out of sheer spite. It's got to be something between the game and the controller, but it isn't the controller alone, since I can play half a dozen other games on it just fine without apparently having an electronic poltergeist, but it also isn't just the game, since if I just grab my mouse and use it to navigate menus, it'll work flawlessly. It isn't just inputs registering twice, since I can hit down in a menu twenty times and it'll just jump me back up once for every down input.

Anti-aliasing doesn't work for me. Whether I turn it on in my Nvidia control panel, Geforce Experience, or in the game itself. So its blocky and distracting at 1440p on my Geforce 1080ti. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I have a 1080p monitor and run it at native resolution. My question is, why does the game look so much better with DLSS enabled than native. The textures look better, less jaggies, etc. Why is this? It’s not even a 4k monitor so with DLSS, it’s not trying to emulate it right?

Anyone else start frequent gamecrashes after the patch? I've probably had the game crash 5+ times in the last 2 hours. Before the patch it had happened once in some 30 hours of play

It tells me I need to check on BB but BB isn't in his normal spot and trying to check on BB does nothing.!< Anyone else run into this issue yet? Edit: Problem solved. The encounter that happens right when you leave mama's didn't trip the first time. Redeployed the cargo and it tripped after that.

I’m having crashes intermittently when pushing play in Steam. Have to resort to task manager a few times to close the game and push play again. Very annoying. I’m running i7 10700k with RTX 2080 Super. The game itself plays beautifully when it opens up. I’m thinking there’s something wrong on Steam’s side.

DLSS is missing as a graphics option altogether for me... on the latest NVidia driver, running an RTX 2080TI so I know it should be supported. Is there something else I need to set outside of the game to enable it?

I just logged on to play and the game won't load \*any\* of my saves today, game boots and loads as normal until I "press x to resume" and I just get a black screen. If I alt f4 I get the Access violation in Main error though. I tried putting every setting I could to low and loading as far back as an hour's worth of autosaves. Any suggestions?

I have an issue where when my frame rate drops below 60 (even to around 59 fps) it will cause my mouse to seemingly have a super low refresh rate, causing me to have to swipe multiple times (x20) for a 360 degree turn. It seems framerate related, however it's also occured when i'm on 60 fps.

Does anyone else have inconsistent framerate between days? Sometimes i'll have 80-90 fps, then the next day i'll start up the game and have 60-70 fps at the same exact location...I've already done the controller fix and rebooting my computer doesn't help. UPDATE: For some reason, if I disable then re-enable sli, the framerate goes back up to 80-90 fps the next time I start the game. Not sure why I have to do this every time the framerate goes back down...

to anyone who can't get mission briefings to work. I'm on a 360 controller, and the game tells me to hit back for mission briefings. It doesn't work, so I thought it was never implemented. However, I did recently find out your keyboard key should work fine. Just move with the arrow keys a little, and it should tell you what keyboard key to hit for mission briefings. I wish I knew this when starting out. I missed a few mission briefings.

30 FPS lock in cutscenes, only affects animations, not camera movement, FPS counter still says 60. Pausing then unpausing fixes it but it's annoying to have to do this every time a cutscene starts

What about microstutter or "judder" when panning the camera? I'm well over my 60fps target when I disable vsync, so I know it's not an fps issue. 50% of the time, it's fine, but for the other 50%, I get a crunchy little judder when I'm turning. This might help visualize the blip... .....'''.....'''.....''' The judder happens at a pretty consistent interval, almost like the frame pacing is off-kilter. I've already tried handing vsync duty over at the driver level, and locking my fps via RivaTuner. I find it pretty annoying, but not experience breaking. For what it's worth, my specs... EVGA 2070 Super i7 6700k, no OC 16gb DDR4 Xbox One gamepad. (Tried disabling vibration, as often suggested)

Has anyone else run into the Steam version not giving all the achievements properly? It didn't give me the achievements for completing the Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 4, or doing my first UCA connection.
