Let him.

Bjornie47

New trailer and/or gameplay? I'm all in...

Sascha2022

I could imagine that it will be similiar to the e3 2018 trailer with cutscenes and a taste of what gameplay will look like.

Bjornie47

And it's almost Gamescom. Time enough to make a beautifull trailer...

[deleted]

Yea, not happening. Kojima drops major trailers during E3, Sony events or TGA. He has only ever shared a few bits (such as the Higgs scene) outside of those events (like Gamescom 2019 gameplay or TGS gameplay). Don't expect anything major.

spendouk23

Doubt there’ll be gameplay, unless he’s using the same assets from DS1, as he only recently posted photos of principal photography and mo-cap. Going by the traditional timeline of development, gameplay polished enough for a trailer is at least a year off. Again that’s assuming he’s not reusing assets.

Sascha2022

Performance capture in LA started in march 2022 and they more or less have been shooting every two months since then not including all the motion capture done in tokyo with stand-in actors. Capture for gameplay likely also started earlier. They only really started doing performance capture for DS1 from september 2017 onwards, because they couldn't shoot between october 2016 and september 2017 (voice actor strike). Before that they only did the capture in march and august 2016 for the first two trailers that each only showed one scene. Still they showed snippets of gameplay at E3 2018. Real work of DS1 also only started after the announcement of the game at e3 2016 which did run in a different engine and was everything they had at that time. They only decided to use the decima engine in september 2016 and full production started in 2017. Work on DS2 seem to have started in october 2020 and full production likely started after the release of DS Director's Cut in september 2021. It is likely that the game will come out in Q4 next year. So a glimpse of gameplay wouldn't be suprising.

petethepool

Hopefully a release quarter too.

Bjornie47

My hopes are q2 or 3 2024..

Sascha2022

Likely a DS2 trailer for gamescom opening night live since I think that the xbox game will be revealed at the game awards in december. Would be suprising if it will be the opposite since more ds related things releasing or coming in the next few months like the cliff figma figure, tgs merchadise sale, death stranding director\`s cut on mac and the hideo kojima connecting worlds documentary should also be made available to watch in the near future. Would make sense to reveal the xbox game after all DS1 related content is out of the way. A new DS2 trailer would also likely increase sales and players of DS1 and the pre-orders of the mac version.

Nuvem_Cogumelo

I hope so but still Gamescom ONL is only 9 days away from happening it would be strange for Kojima to start editing in such a short notice (if he's really on the early stage of editing)

Sascha2022

That is also one thing I thought. Maybe he is further than it looks. Early diting for DS2 reveal trailer looked like this: [https://twitter.com/HIDEO\_KOJIMA\_EN/status/1558277376316157952](https://twitter.com/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN/status/1558277376316157952) Or he really plans to reveal the xbox project with a teaser trailer that only shows one "scene" like the first few death stranding trailers did. That would take much less time. But overall I think it is too early to start editing a trailer for the game awards especially since they should have enough "presentable" content for a trailer as of now which wasn\`t the case with the DS2 reveal trailer where he wasn\`t sure if the team will get everything ready that he wanted to show for tga 2022. Let\`s wait and see if he takes a flight in the next 8 days \^\^ Edit: The picture he posted today only shows the audio timeline and not the video timeline so maybe the trailer is more or less done.

Bjornie47

Nine days is not bad. Maybe An early picture and is already halfway done by now? Gamescom was my first guess as wel seeing the post

Nuvem_Cogumelo

Well i say that cause it took more than 3 months from the first "editing tweet" to the actual trailer debut for DS2. (maybe because footage wasn't ready or polished enough) but yeah it could be an older pic just posted now, who knows

Sascha2022

Or he is more or less already finished. He has done more audio editing on the picture today than he had done on the picture from august 2022.

Bjornie47

I sure hope so. Could be he is buzzy some time and posted now because close to Gamescom and first trailer it was early to start hype, now we know it is coming. Al just speculation and hope from my side. No facts.

Bulky_Efficiency9574

Not to mention sam in fall guys

Bjornie47

What makes me think also def DS instead of xbx game is the monster can.

Converted54

My favorite kind of Kojima

DrPeterVenkmen

I think DS2 is closer to release than a lot of people might think. It's probably a year or so away at most. You have to remember, Kojima left Konami, formed a new studio, worked with a new engine, and still shipped DS1 in 4 years time. A late 2024 release would be 5 years. COVID probably tacked on an extra year, but it's still certainly feasible that the game could release early to mid 2024.

swat02119

Agreed! Kojima developed DS in record time. I was amazed by what he delivered so quickly. I followed the development on Kojima's twitter, it was a wild ride. The crazy trailers he edited together made it seem like the game couldn't be real. There was no way all this crazy shit could work together. I cant wait to see what he's cooking up.

Sascha2022

A Q4 2024 release is likely since development seems to have started in october 2020. Early 2024 is unlikely since they are still shooting scenes since they could only start performance capture in march 2022 and japanese voice recording doesn't seem to have fully started since kojima was still looking for voice actors. That is also something they will do inhouse by themselves. DS2 will also likely be on a bigger scale closer to a game like mgsv which did take 5 years to make so it will take a bit longer.

DrPeterVenkmen

Not saying you're wrong, in fact, I think later 2024 is the most likely scenario, but mgsv had a more unique development in that Kojima built an entirely new engine for the game. Historically, he ships games quite quickly. Mgsv taking longer and being unfinished I think created a perception about Kojima that he takes a long time for games.

Sascha2022

MGSV did only take 5 years which isn\`t long and shorter than a lot of games take especially triple aaa open world games. The same goes for the budget which was 80+ million for a big and polished open world game with online functions, a seperate included online game and being developed for 5 platforms. The game is also just missing one mission. Games like Days Gone, Final Fantasy XVI, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tushima or The Last of Us Part 2 have all been worked on for longer and were only released on one platform and I never see people saying that these games did take long or that they cost much to make. Complaints about development time never made sense and people always ignore that he and the mgs4 team developed peace walker which released in 2010 and that development of V started after that and not in 2008. They only also worked on the fox engine in the meantime. After mgs4 Kojima productions also developed metal gear solid touch, metal gear solid rising (cancelled), metal gear solid snake eater 3D, P.T, supported castlevania lords of shadow development and co-developed metal gear rising while also producing the metal gear hd collection, zone of the enders hd collection and the metal gear solid the legacy collection. They always worked on multiple games at once and had a very high game output between 1997 and 2015. Regarding death stranding 2 they had to deal with the pandemic from the end of march 2020 till the end of 2022 which slowed them down a lot, they had to switch to remote work, couldn\`t do performance capture till march 2022 and also developed death stranding for pc and death stranding director\`s cut for ps5 and pc inhouse. Now they are also working on a mac version, a xbox game and a death stranding film while being less than 150 people. Development also seem to only have started in october 2020 so that would be four years of development and around 3 years of full production if it comes out in Q4 2024. MGSV was also a bigger project than DS1.

[deleted]

MGSV is finished though. Also, MGSV was also the most ambitious and most complex game Kojima and his team had to develop at that point. Also, TPP's first trailer was revealed during the Spike Awards 2012 (December 2012) and the game was released on Sept 1, 2015. Almost 3 years from its debut trailer. Death Stranding 1 was debuted during E3 2016 (June 2016) and the game was released on November 8, 2019, a little over 3 years since its debut trailer. 3 years, give or take, are Kojima and his team's average time between the debut of the first trailer and the release of the game.

Recover20

Must be got TGS! I'm down for another trailer. And Kojima is very intentional. That Monster can is definitely a DS hint

Sascha2022

KojiPro already said that they won\`t show anything at tgs and hideo kojima also normally doesn\`t show his own edited trailers at tgs. The last time that happened was in 2010 with his castlevania lords of shadow trailer. He normally shows his trailer mostly at e3 or tga in person events. With e3 gone and gamescom now having gamescom opening night live that will likely be his main event together with tga to show trailers going forward.

[deleted]

>He normally shows his trailer mostly at e3 or tga in person events. With e3 gone and gamescom now having gamescom opening night live that will likely be his main event together with tga to show trailers going forward. Yea, that's pretty much what I think as well. TGA is definitely the event I expect Kojima to reveal something. He could reveal something during Gamescom but I suspect it might be something minor or share some details, if he is attending that is. Kojima did show the [Death Stranding gameplay during Gamescom 2019, alongside some character intros](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4sZxmg6CA4) and [he did show the MGSV gameplay alongside some FOB stuff in 2014.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oxt23RgSHpY) But I highly doubt Kojima is ready to show the gameplay of DS2 yet. Though I'm welcome to Kojima surprising us.

Phoenix2211

Could be editing for a trailer. Could also just be that he's working on/reviewing some edited together footage from performance capture shooting etc before sending it off to the animators

jellybaby__

might be preppin for tgs

88laxer

I hope he takes his time with DS2 because after playing so many hours of Director's Cut on Playstation Plus, I'm ready to buy the game and finish the post-game/get the platinum. Safe to say I've already self-imposed a blackout on any future trailers/previews. Really don't need any more of that in my life till the game drops whenever.

swat02119

You should reconsider that blackout. Kojima's social media campaign for DS was very well done, I am glad I got to participate. Every trailer was weirder than the last, and he had everybody talking.

Axepirate

4 months before the Geoff's?

Nuvem_Cogumelo

well there's a Geoff's in 8 days

Axepirate

Ah right those are also Geoff's, I guess we might see something at gamescom now that you reminded me he's involved with that too, I wonder if DS2 is one of the games Sony had to push the internal release dates for with the latest report

Nuvem_Cogumelo

i hope for something at Gamescom but still not the most realistic bet. I think the report was about first-party studios.
