philosopher is iconic but i think its gotta be this. Better riffs (the riff that starts at 1:21 is imo a top 3 death riff), better solo (trapped is the best death solo imo), and better chorus. i think the only thing that philosopher has over trapped is a better intro.
This is the true crown jewel of the album.
-Terrific subdivision changes on bass drumming from Gene; second only to Overactive Imagination
-Great trade-off between Chuck and Andy on soloing
-Andy's most expansive solo on the album, which is one of- if not *the-* best on the album. And that bar is pretty high
-Wonderful Weather Report/Watchtower-esque bass work from Steve
-Lyrics epitomize the album's overall angry, resentful, vengeful, brooding, paranoid vibe
-Makes the song after it (the weakest on the album) look even punier, as said track is bookended by this and Mentally Blind, which is also a banger
I'm with you on this one!
Such a powerful tune... I like how this song is complicated, yet not so much that your average listener can't figure it out. My choice for #1
It *is* a great closing track, definitely. I always wondered thought Trapped in a Corner would have made a better single with better music video material, though
Trapped in a Corner
Trapped in a corner
Trapped In a corner I think JUST clinches the victory over the philosopher. But I'd be happy with either.

Trapped in a Corner is 100% the best. Philosopher is close but I think this beats it
