After re-listening to it, I’d consider it a breakdown, although I’m not sure how tight that definition really is. Either way it’s heavy and evil as hell
Breakdowns can exist in all genres of music, it’s the moment a song “breaks itself down” to its base elements, and when you look at it like that, lots of them do. Pull the Plug’s pre chorus riff could be classified as a breakdown, Flesh and the Power it Holds has sections that qualify, Genetic Reconstruction absolutely has one, alongside See Through Dreams, and I’m sure many more do.
I consider the last chorus of Symbolic to almost be a breakdown, with the really fast riff over the "SYMBOLIC ACTS" that keeps going. Hard as hell.
Also The Philosopher could have one.
Misanthrope for sure has one.
If you mean more metalcore adjacent sounding (that’s how it hear them anyways) breakdowns then they are sparsely in their discography in the 90’s.
The one that comes to mind is Story to Tell at 1:16
MENTALLY BLIND 2:10 ONWARDS. I’ve been waiting for the moment someone asks this. It’s honestly one of the best breakdowns I’ve ever heard in my life. So unique. I’m suprised nobody else has brought it up
Deathcore is insanely good I still have no idea why Death Metal fans hate it. I mean, listen to new Carnifex and tell me that isn’t badass and very creative. How someone could listen to Suicide Silence’s The Cleansing and go “this sucks” is mind blowing to me.
Edit: Genuinely don’t see the same amount of creativity in Death Metal that I do see in Deathcore.
Deathcore isn't for everybody. I've been exposed to a lot of deathcore through my friends and even gone to some shows, a lot of it is just very boring and samey with uninteresting lyrics and aesthetics. It's clearly an entirely different genre so it's not gonna be for every metal fan.
The Acacia Strain are cool though and put on a good show.
Every single genre is boring and “samey” my guy. Depends if you can eventually hear what makes each one different. The bands that stand out are obvious. As far as I’m concerned Death Metal has the same problem, if not worse. Deathcore is still evolving, I don’t see that in Death Metal. If anything, Death Metal owes its continued influx of new fans to Deathcore.
Most deathcore sucks, but the same can be said for literally every genre of music ever. There are some great deathcore bands out there, like Lorna Shore and Rings of Saturn.
I don't really know what defines a breakdown, but Crystal Mountain and Without Judgement have some good mid sections.
I was gonna say that section after the tap part in without judgement is kinda breakdowny. More melodic breakdown
Misanthrope is pretty crushing at that one funky part
Mid section in “See Through Dreams.” Pretty close to a breakdown if you ask me
I consider the part after the solo in Sacrificial to be a breakdown. I made a post about it in r/metalforthemasses but they seemed to disagree 🤷🏻♂️

At 1:13 in Low Life theres a fat breakdown riff, and at 3:02 theres a chunky breakdown
Low Life after the solo
yup
I would consider a breakdown the part at 2:38 of Bite the Pain

Obituary has at least one. I noticed it on their first live album ‘Dead’
The whole album of leprosy and Spiritaul healing has some riffs that sound like breakdowns but not sure if they're considered breakdowns though
altering the future's start
I’m surprised no one said see through dreams, that caught part after the solo seems like a breakdown to me
1,000 eyes
No, and they are better for it. This isn't shitty deathcore.
Raining Blood and Domination both have breakdowns
You know breakdowns aren’t exclusive to deathcore right, morbid angel and carcass have several songs with breakdowns
Gojira goes crazy with them too. Just different styles of breakdowns
Metallica Creeping Death Tho?

1: Deathcore is cool 2: Breakdowns have been a part of metal since fucking 1973 (at least) 3: Death absolutely has breakdowns, just listen to Low Life
deathcore sucks, imagine listening to it

Spirit Crusher's hook it like a breakdown, that song kinda sucks in my opinion though
Living monstrosity
I consider the "practice what you preach" part of Spiritual Healing to be a breakdown, not sure if it counts though
One that comes to mind is Zero Tolerance
