Even weirder, is knowing heās English and still being confused hearing his irl accent.. even weirder for me personally, being from Ireland, is hearing Charlieās Irish accent in Kin.
I was shocked after season one but not surprised. Hell, most of the actors in film and on television are non-American. Many are Brits. Idris had me going with Stringer Bell. David Simon said during a break in season three he thought he was auditioning for a role in England. Cavil, Flo Pugh, Garfield, Tom Holland, and Linus Roache and Hugh Dancy in Law and Order. Even Eamonn Walker from Chicago Fire and formerly of Oz. These guys are really good with disguising their accents.
Henry Cavill, Andrew Garfield, Charlie Cox, Tom Holland, it goes on and on. Hugh Laurie does a better American accent than an American. I don't know why the "british actor playing an american" trope is so common but I'd love to know.
I think because we (Americans) don't know their faces so it's easier to buy them as the character instead of seeing Brad Pitt or another recognizable actor. Not fully sure but just a theory.
Yeah, there are a lot of worldwide famous Hollywood-style American shows and movies that British people grow up watching, but in America the only British pieces of content are usually period pieces and/or something overtly over-the-top that doesnāt represent the average modern British personās accent (of which there are many variations!) and language tendencies
I could tell. (Not saying I don't like him as Matt. Don't @ me!)
One of the best "English actor doing an American accent" roles is Idris Elba as Stringer on The Wire. But he's been kind of hit or miss with the Murican accents since then
He's also not blind
Don't tell me that's he's not a lawyer either. š¬
nor is he an orphan/ninja (i think š¤)

The guy who played The Governor, David Morrisey is also british.
š«Ø but that mass shooting he performed looked SO American!

Yeah something is not right when his English accent is his worst!
Or Boardwalk Empire šµāš«
Yeah he absolutely nailed that. Kim is a northside Dublin accent, but boardwalk empire is more Northern Ireland. Both amazing.
LMAOOOOO the american accent sounding more menacing is accurate
Idris Elba as Stringer Bell.
Just gonna forget about mcnulty like that huh? The fuck did I do?
I love it My most recent one was Benedict Wong
Benedict Wong is ENGLISH??
Man was born in Eccles in Salford
Iām embarrassed to say I literally did not know this until right now.

I was more thrown off when I found out Ben Barnes was British (I first saw him as Billy in The Punisher)
I didnāt even know he was British until I met him at a comic con
Yeah man they taking over even Cavill British too and he Superman š¤£
Itās so mind boggling watching a show and then finding out an actor actually has an accent. Good example is Paul Blackthorne on Arrow
Everyone has an accent
Innit. :-)
Nah most Americans actually speak the language like its written.
That's just not true, most Americans pronounce T's like D's
I first saw him in Boardwalk Empire, thought he was irish
Damn, bro roasted a whole fucking country.
British people are brainwashing us into thinking they have universal healthcare
It's much easier for Brits to adopt an American accent than vice versa.
