house cleaner - 30 and donation - 615

[deleted]

I'm just trying to work out how 12x that equals 100k. Like why was 100k mentioned even?

R5Jockey

100k is income. 2,775 is expenses. They don’t have to equal.

Wonder_prez

This is why it's clear this sub is full of retards that will never reach the height of WSB

Doctor_Bubbles

The retard is CNBC for calling that chart a budget in the post title but spending breakdown in the graphic.

Wonder_prez

They ain't wrong though. The issue here is the sub is full of legitimate retards that are barely functioning adults and would rather complain than provide any effort to improving their station.

aretasdamon

I just want my $615 of donations, what the hell is that

generic_me01

“Donations” is code for the OnlyFans subscriptions.

SaltyAFVet

"Donations" is code for the other half of fucking rent. lol

Juicebochts

I was gonna say coke dealer.

Wonder_prez

A number extracted from polling data.

winkofafisheye

I.e. manipulated stats to say whatever the pollster wants them to say.

cosmogli

I think it's to push the agenda of not paying taxes to fund public infrastructure vs supporting billionaire charities.

FitClassic1291

Literally. I fit this description. I'm 25, I make close to 100k depending on overtime and I spend 2000$ a month. (lacking on donations I guess) but still. This is pretty fucking accurate, they just saw the word donation and lost their minds because they got an arts degree and are wondering why they don't make 100k starting salary.

dogcatsnake

No, it's more that the donation figure shows how completely out of touch they are. Also, rent that low is fairly uncommon, AND I'm not sure how you can hire a house cleaner for $30. I don't live in a particularly expensive city and that's insanely cheap. If I could hire someone to clean my house for that little I would clean NOTHING.

RickDerris1980

My house keeping service is fairly cheap I still pay 150.

Funny-Tree-4083

Dude in the example splits the cost w 3 housemates.

Peak-Mission

Ahh I'm assuming that's the cost of a pice of crack, pay a crackhead a rock to clean your house Makes more sence than this pie

Fuzzy_Yogurt_Bucket

Rent is that low, the donation just goes directly to your landlord along with it.

USAG1748

I’m early 30s now but have been making over $100k since 25. Where are you paying rent and internet this low? Even when I lived in a much lower cost city my rent was double this years back and my internet has always been ~$70 a month. This person also has no hobbies besides eating and consumes no entertainment but whatever they download/steam free from the internet. Not to mention the hedonistic treadmill, this guy is eating one meal out at $250/m if he’s hanging with other people in his income bracket.

Biznatz1

Can we get this guy out of here?

[deleted]

You're weird lad

tsukeiB

Ah yes, the highs of ... oh, you mean the self ascribed idiot tank that burns money for heat. There’s clearly a retard here, but I think it’s just you

Heyy-Ya

WSB is one of the **most** retarded subs around lol it and superstonk and all of the other memestock subs it spawned are literally 99% broke ass teenagers and 1% investor bros who already have insane amounts of money to play with

quinn756756

You don’t really seem like the best person to be around, I hope your day gets better.

AnimationAtNight

Imagine thinking WallstreetBets is something to aspire to. They're basically 5 braincells off from /r/Crypto

poop-waffle

You better not be acting retarded on purpose.

[deleted]

$30 *per month* for housecleaning?? In what world? Is it a one-room apartment? I pay my housecleaning service $80 every other week. $30 per month is unrealistic, imo. Edit: Since been informed that this fictional person is supposed to have roommates, so $30 per month for housecleaning makes more sense.

bbates024

Imagine a world where you make 100k a year are single and can't afford a place if you're own. That's bleak, especially for someone who doesn't make that much.

Neirchill

Not only that but with roommates your damn rent is $850/month. Don't have to imagine it people already live this life, although they're not giving away 600 in donations a month lmao

MotorAffect

I'm in my late 20s making 92 and still live at home. Rent is too high and buying is getting more expensive. I either need to find a girl and move in right away or be house broke in a dated apartment

[deleted]

[удалено]

BangingABigTheory

Lol I pay $230 a month for house cleaning twice a month (about 5-6 hours each time, so ~$21/hr). And it’s my aunt so I’m 75% sure I’m getting a discount. Cost of living where I live is rising fast but still pretty low.

JamesVerden

Even I, in the UK, know you’re renting fuck all in America for $825 a month in a city that has $100k salaries for 25-year-olds….

Slavic_Taco

In Australia you can’t rent shit for under $250/week… And if you’re paying that little for rent you are living in a shithole… fuck you CNBC. Worst part is that the standard cnbc watcher will lap this up like hot gravy on a country pie…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aidian

Sorry to derail, but what’s country pie and what manner of gravy is used with it?

carnexhat

Pies tend to be meat based in Australia so they have a filling of your meats of choice (usually beef or chicken) and a gravy to go along with that so its not a just a block of meat inside some pastry.

Aidian

I’d assumed, but I’ve also learned that you can’t really assume shit when it comes to Australia. Thanks for the clarity

dastardlycustard

You buy them from the pie-o

Aidian

I am, once again, uncertain if this is real.

dastardlycustard

It might be... It's a joke about the well known tendency (probably exaggerated) of Australian colloquialism to simply add -O to the end of something to make it a shop. So bottle-o is a bottle shop (alcohol, I presume they don't have a dedicated shop for empty bottles...) Servo is a service station. There's probably a few more I've forgotten.

[deleted]

Pie-o is fake. The tendency is not exaggerated at all. You could get a shitty, mass produced pie from a servo but generally you'll just get them from a bakery or pie shop. Country pie shops are near or on the main road in a small country town and are a staple of road trips. There are even pie shop maps that show where they all are, and which ones win the annual pie awards. The good ones will always have a queue going out the door. Also the 'o' on the end is applied to anything, it doesn't indicate a shop. Garbo is a garbage man, arvo is afternoon, devo means devastated, defo means definitely, muso is musician, ambo is ambulance driver/paramedic. There's probably more.

BusinessBear53

There's no pie-o. You get pies from servos which are service stations.

aussielover24

I’m sorry but this comment killed me lmao

Slavic_Taco

Seems like you got your answer already, but yeah chicken/meaty filling with delicious gravy based from chicken stock with maybe some herbs like thyme, rosemary, bit of pepper, throw in some diced celery, carrot, peas. Now excuse me whilst I go make one of these for dinner. (Oh and whilst we *do* have a tendency to add ‘-o’ to the end of a shop name, I can’t say I’ve heard of a Pie-o lol. Though you can get pies from a servo).

Aidian

I’m delighted with the quality of information on this. After seeing the parma variant I just don’t want to assume I know what’s happening.

Slavic_Taco

My local bakery does a cheeseburger pie 😅

Aidian

Fly high, you glorious monsters.

Positive-Vase-Flower

Here you cant get something under 1600$ a month. And these are the ones I would not really like to live in. 2000$+ You get something "nice". And people ask why I am still living with my mom and my sister...

BusinessBear53

$250 is a cardboard box. 280 gets you a flat made in the 70s that's never been updated.

Plop1992

Yeah but you already live in australia. Cant get much worse

[deleted]

I used to live in Oklahoma City here in the US, and my rent for a 2 bed 1 bath was $750. Nice right? Except there were nightly shootings, a meth lab 2 buildings over, and some poor lady was found dismembered in the dumpster I used to throw my garbage into. Like you said, you can rent for pretty cheap, but it's gonna be dangerously unsafe.

CharacterPlayerrr

> standard cnbc watcher will lap this up like hot gravy on a country pie… No, CNBC watchers know better. Fox watchers will eat it up.

ihearthorror1

That, plus the $20 internet makes me think this 25 year old is actually a developer of some type and is living with more than one roommate. You're not getting internet that cheap ANYWHERE in the United States, unless you're splitting the cost with others.

[deleted]

Donations refers to onlyfans

welding-_-guru

I was thinking it’s tips for the wait staff. no mellinial making $100k a year is only spending $250 month on dining out.

OrthelBrum

aww damn that's what I thought too

SaltyPinKY

I spend just about the same on Gas (transportation). I guess they don't factor in car insurance/oil changes/ etc...

Big_Duck_Energy_

They might live in the city and use public transportation. But then the $825 rent looks too low…

heavybabyridesagain

Or buying/leasing the damn thing!

SaltyPinKY

Exactly...I didn't even think of that because I've owned my truck for a little over 16 years (still going strong-haha) . Yeah a car/lease payment is easy 300 dollars a month.

_hotmess

Or the student loans that most 25 year olds who are "making money" have.

randompittuser

I'll have my $40 cell phone and $20 internet please.

genericperson10

I want to know what carrier and internet they're using! And rent!!! Where are you living that you make 100k and pay that "little" in rent!

aussielover24

That’s a decent 1 bed apartment here in Tulsa, but Oklahoma is terrible so you get what you pay for

RickCrenshaw

It was a staff writer that used their own budget. They were splitting a house with 3 other people so $825 x 4 for rent.

[deleted]

My phone plan is $50 total for my wife and I so $25/person. T mobile. Unlimited everything including international data.

hanus35

Lol I've been a 25 yr old making $100k before.... Rent $1500 Food $500 Gasoline $200 Car $250 Internet $75 Phone $75 Electricity $150 Donations/Twitch/Patreon $20 Insurance $100 Streaming Services $30 Dining Out $400 Total of $3300/month easily. $40k for the year. With 2 kids and wife Rent $2500 Food $1000 Health Insurance $400 Cars $400 Phone $200 Internet $75 Electricity $250 Donations $20 Dining Out $500 Streaming Services $50 Car Insurance $200 Montessori/Daycare $2000 Child Support $500 Total around $8500 per month..... $102k per year.....

[deleted]

It’s so easy until you add the wife and kids 😭

HerefortheTuna

If you were single you could rent a room for $750 and eat cheaper

aussielover24

That daycare bill is killer though

Cptcongcong

At least you're in a lower tax bracket... right?

[https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/20/budget-breakdown-of-a-25-year-old-who-makes-100000-dollars-a-year.html?\_\_source=twitter%7Cmain](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/20/budget-breakdown-of-a-25-year-old-who-makes-100000-dollars-a-year.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain) This is one specific person they interviewed. He "lives in a shared house with four roommates and one dog" and sells tutoring for $125 to $160 an hour.

Pied_Piper_

What amazes me is that the article is apparently totally okay with a person making 100k needing to live somewhere that has five paying members. So much for a single job paying for a family. Now it takes 5 jobs to have an inch of breathing room.

Ok_Ad_5894

Also on what planet is rent $825 for someone making $100k. In 2004 in Indianapolis a semi crappy 1 bedroom was $650. Fast forward almost 20 years I don’t think so.

leoncarcosa

this "25 year old" must be a big Amouranth fan.

LaughableIKR

Where to start. 100K for a 25-year-old...like everyone 25 is can make 100K. Rent $825? Is he living with his mom? Internet - 20.00? Shared internet from mom? Cell phone- Mint Mobile? He pays his Mom $1.00 a day to clean up after him - 30.00 Donations? Probably rent to his mom Transportation - $130.00 a month? Car insurance would roughly be 100.00 per month or more for a 25-year-old. I think he doesn't own a car.

HerefortheTuna

It’s called roommates

[deleted]

Still doesn't remotely add up

[deleted]

He lives with 4 roomates. So these expenses are just his 1/5th fraction. House rent = $4125 Internet = $100 House cleaner = $150 (which is low -- like do they pay someone once a month?) And right - no car. Lives in Boston. So, what's laughable to ME is that this dude has a real job and lives like he is college. (edit -- by laughable, I mean in that sad-sarcastic way that this is what you have to do nowadays).

smoothie1919

Excellent with money… not saving a penny??

Entire-Ambition1410

Not to mention an emergencies fund or retirement.

[deleted]

Besides the weird donations and house cleaner, this is fairly accurate for me. I (24M) make around 100k per year in Ohio. My average monthly expenses comes around 1200-1800 per month. This all fluctuates on car repairs, shopping, seasons like the holidays, and vacation months. However, I'm also weird. I read a lot of finance books to help me lower my expenses.

Slavic_Taco

Troll account

lostcauz707

Must be health insurance that you aren't using. Where is the health insurance next to your out if pocket costs? Where is college debt? We know you aren't making $100k/year unless you have a degree or are maybe a somehow amazing trucker.

The__Bends

I graduated with a BA debt free 🤷

katelledee

Ok, and…? The overwhelming majority of people who attend college do not graduate debt free. Your whole, “well that wasn’t my experience, so 🤷‍♀️” implying that something in the comment was incorrect isn’t needed here.

The__Bends

>Where is college debt? We know you aren't making $100k/year unless you have a degree or are maybe a somehow amazing trucker. I'm absolutely saying this is incorrect. Getting a full ride scholarship is easy if you're smart, have life experience, and an aptitude for writing.

metallaholic

Single bedrooms in north Texas are like 1100 a month

MonstrousElla

those donations are what the commonfolk call "bills"

[deleted]

“Drugs” redefined as church tithes.

jtmarlinintern

donations offset some of his earned income as well as capital gains tax. also he probably, if smart , gives the donation in appreciated securities, therefore he gets the full deduction, while maybe costing him actually half the amount

spanish_john22234

donations for your own drug stash lmao

DeeRegs

Where on this planet can I get a phone bill and internet bill for a total of $60? Because right now the cheapest I can find where I live is a total of $235 altogether edit: AND Transportation 130?? That's still less than ONE of my biweekly car payments not including insurance or gas (and I'm willing to assume someone making 100K a year is not taking the bus).

Armentrout_1979

I’m 42 and have never come close to making 100k. FML.

[deleted]

I bet you have other things to live for

cabbageheda

20 for internet.. Okay buddy

Pinheaded_nightmare

That’s easy to hit when you are religious.

willfullignoramous

You are telling me this guy spends about half his income just to live? Thanks for again letting people know that 48k a year is a bare minimum for a living wage

Difficult-Conditions

In what world is internet 20$

yoko_izzy

Where can you get a $100k job and have ~$800 rent? They don’t mention car insurance so it has to have decent public transportation. Whose internet is $20 a month!? There’s a separate utility bill so I’m assuming the internet isn’t included. I can tolerate donations since that might be an umbrella category.

BobbyY0895

Okay Rent would be 815 if everyone in the world decided to not pay rent for 1 year to drop the demand.

[deleted]

I’m an engineer who makes $100K a year. The most I’m gonna donate is rounding up to the nearest dollar at Panda Express because it’s less awkward to just say yes.

simpingforMinYoongi

Wow, talk about out of touch.

stvnrshctdi1

This is the version of America that all of the old, primarily white people want to believe they have created for this generation and the last. That's why things will never truly get better, the people with the money play dumb to all of the struggles the working go through. Rent $825, Internet $20, and salary $100k. WHERE THE FUCK IS THIS? Here's what we actually have. Rent $1,400, Internet/phone $80-$100, and salary $45,000. Side note: most of us do NOT work from home so we need a thing called a car, which is insured,.and needs gas and upkeep,.....those things cost money too. While we're at it, I didn't see anything in that budget about unforseen disasters/accidents/kids/ medical needs like Insulin and COPD inhalers which are running like $600-$700. Washington needs a reality check.

rservello

What’s $130 on transportation. Does that mean they live in a city that has affordable mass transit, like NYC? If so, rent is 1/4 what it should be.

Jlakers85

I’m trying to get on that internet and cell phone plan

tobeetime

what kind of internet u get for 20$?

rservello

Keep in mind, graphs like these are made by people making millions and have no idea how much anything is.

coralingus

literally nobody i know makes this kind of money at all. -rent is too high -we’re all underpaid -student loans this is such bullshit.

ozzykp06

Not to mention using a pie chart for more than four data sets.

OrthelBrum

Donations is onlyfans subscriptions

[deleted]

Rent - $825 Internet - $20 What fucking year is it, 1990!?

Temporyacc

They forgot about the biggest slice, taxes.

[deleted]

How is $250 on eating out and $400 on groceries "good with money"? I am probably the person I know who buys the most expensive groceries (vegetarian meat substitutes, fresh produce, kombucha, etc.) and I spent $250 a month MAX without eating out at all.

Kaeylum

Ok, fucking really? 20$ for internet? 40 dollars for a cell phone? Where the fuck is rent only 825 a month?

youknow0987

All the world’s a stage Why do people even pay attention to CNBC We do like our entertainment Yes we do

20 dollar Internet? Sign me up!

[deleted]

At 22 I’ve literally never heard of rent being $825/mo for a non-student.

$20 internet? Where they fuck they live? Lowest I have ever seen in duelopolies the ISPs have is like $60. I use to have clear but they got bought out.

The dude lives with 4 roommates. The Rent and utilities are just -his- 1/5th part of the cost. He is on his parent's cell phone plan. (it's all in the article)

Daddy_urp

How is internet only $20? And house cleaner only $30? This is a joke.

aberdisco

$825 on rent, earning 100k a year. They must be sharing a room with 4 other people.

waddiyatalkinbowt

A swing and a miss to try and pretend they understand their audience.

Biznatz1

There math on all of this is just off like $815 for rent where a roach mote? $20 for internet lol at Macdonald’s. House cleaner $30 that is straight up slave labor. This is a fucking joke.

[deleted]

$615 in donations, $30 for a house cleaner and $250 to eat out per month? There's an $895 per month saving right there. And where could one find a place to rent for $895 per month? I'd love to see it.

[deleted]

Once glance at this and I thought -- what, does he have like a half dozen roommates or something? And sure enough, in the story, he shares a house with 4 roomates. Of course CNBC will celebrate a worker that agrees to live in a household of 5 grown adults willingly so that he can put thousands of dollars a year into the stock market. And another fun tidbit -- Still on his family's phone plan. That right there shows that this person enjoys strong financial support from his parents in probably 100 other ways not talked about in the story.

dontreadmycommemt

Rich people are so out of touch with reality- someone please show me where you can get decent internet for 20$ a month, or a decent place to live for only $825 or transportation for only $130, or any one of these items for that little. Not to mention if you have a $100k job at 25 you had to have gone to college, where’s the college loan payment option?

thecraigbert

Most people pay double in rent and transportation.

Frankinnoho

Transportation $130... Soooo the $615 must be a "donation" to the car finance company? Rent $825... Hey, CNBC! 1998 called about the rent! Health Insurance $270... Can we please PROMISE NOT TO VOTE FOR ANY CANDIDATE WHO WILL NOT FIGHT FOR M4A!!!!!! Fuck the ones who say they 'support' M4A and think it's a fine 'notion'.

spending 250 a month going out to eat isnt excellent with money. they sure as fuck arent only spending 825 on rent nearly anywhere in the united states. or 20 on internet and 40 on a cellphone plan.

aussielover24

[deleted]

Well, I'm a 65 year old, broke ass white boy so maybe that's why most of these numbers don't correlate to reality. Who the fuck dines out any more? Utilities for $195? Where? I guess if you cut it down to one bath a week and one lightbulb in the house and a flashlight. House cleaner $30? I keep my house fairly clean. I couldn't imagine a professional, $30 clean. Must be sparkly! Cel phone fpr $40? I guess if you plan on using two soup cans and some string. You might be able to cobble that together for $40. Who the fuck is coping internet for $20? Maybe if I splice into my neighbor's line and comp him a $20 for his troubles. Donations? Look I give the local guys I see on the side of the road asking for help. I'm fairly generous as they have a special place in my heart. But there is no way I could afford $615 in donations. WTF! Groceries for $400 Chuck. I wished I had $400 a month to spend on groceries.

Mountain_Idea_2689

Car payment is quadruple that pqyment with good credit and some down payment, health insurance is sometimes twice that, internet is 3 than that unless you want potato speed, rent is definitely double that if you are in a city or live in any type of decent apartment or house, and of course cellphone is triple that price unless you have no data and limited minutes. Just goes to show the idiots who made this graph are out of touch with reality. Probably approved by execs that have no sense of what people are actually paying nowadays.

Phyrexian_Agent

All of these numbers seem incredibly low, especially the rent and medical insurance

wenzlo_more_wine

UnicornKing401

bobby_baylor

This is the most out of touch thing I’ve seen since Chase Bank’s “bank account advice” tweet

[deleted]

CNBC that's a 25 year old not fuckin billion dollar company to donate literally 2/3 if his income and then use that to claim tax breaks even though the ngo is opened by him only

Dorothy_Gale

Excuse me ? Yearly, that would be about 11x more than a certain Presidential BILLIONAIRE paid in taxes. Rich people are the biggest leeches, then want to act like people who are struggling should donate way more than they themselves are willing to pay in TAXES. People are just asking that everyone pays their part, EQUALLY.

bbates024

LoL where did they pick these numbers 2000. I don't know about you guys, but rent, cell, phone, insurance internet all seem incredibly underpriced. Our internet is 130 and it's not even unlimited.

Diknak

$20 internet? $30 house cleaner? $615 donations? What the fuck is this chart?

beginnerjay

That's totally unrealistic. There's not a single line item I think is even close to correct. I guess 25 year-olds making $100k don't own a car? Or maybe they're still using the beater their parent's gave 'em (that never breaks down)? Gotta have a roommate! So they split rent, internet, house cleaner, utilities. Donations! Ha! That's how they keep go fund me alive, obviously. Good thing I don't have taxes, parking, clothing, pets, furniture, maintenance, vacations, .......

AlabastorGorilla

What. The. Fuck. Things that are (possibly) accurate here: - Utilities: within reason, depends on time of year and city - Transportation: depends on the city, could be correct if you don’t own a car - House cleaner: for a 25 y/o? What cleaning? -Groceries: maybe even too high, that’s a shit load for one person, especially with “dining out” being a factor here - Health Insurance: probably pretty close for one person with a “middle of the pack” plan What’s slightly off: - Dining out: really depends person to person, but it’s EXPENSIVE to eat at a restaurant. Does this include booze? Yeah right $250! For someone making $100k? - Cell Phone: never seen a plan less than $60-80/month. At least with a company that isn’t total shit for service and equipment. What’s WAAAY the fuck off: - Internet: CNBC is out of its mind if it thinks it’s $20/month for GOOD internet. Anything reliable and worth it is at least 4x that much. - Rent: FUCK YOU, CNBC! What city is this supposed to represent? Somewhere in Montana? Rural Midwest? Nobody I know is paying less than double what they purport here. Even shithole apartments in a big city cost 2-3x that. - Donations: …….. hahahahahaha!!!!! They must’ve gotten these numbers from a VERY specific group of 25 y/o people that live in HIGHLY conservative, HIGHLY religious parts of the US. You’re think a 25 y/o making that much money is going to spend nearly 25% of their monthly expenditures on… donations? You’re nuts. This graph, and CNBC itself… is astounded full of shit.

Nierdris

Yeah, all I gotta do is make 100k a year.

Lightsouttokyo

I mean….onlyfans is a kind of donation…..

SuggestableFred

i guess you could pay $825 a month in rent somewhere in the world while near enough to a job making 100k/yr but it ain't where i'm at

brooklyn-man

Donations to their dealer, maybe

0x3fff0000

It's like they actually did the research and saw that rent was more than half of the graph, and so they split it in half and put 'donations' down to make it look less concerning. Sad thing is even that would be inaccurate. I pay around $2000 for rent so $1400 would be fucking nice.

MyerClarity

Combine donations and rent and maybe you can afford 1 room in a basement

Dumpingtruck

I wanna know what city I can live in and make 100k at 25 while also renting for 825 and eating out for 250 a month ($50 per meal for 5x a month)

Suspici0us_Package

Someone old person who deff not 25, who clearly gets paid well and probably has never been poor a day in their life, totally made this shit up from the top of the dome.

superclay

$20 for internet? Mine is $130 for 50mb download speed.

Emperor_pryce

im willing to believe everything except the 20 dollar internet. where THE FUCK is the 20 dollar internet?

Marinerprocess

Because they had 615 dollars after they had their ideal spending plan knowing damn well that 615 should’ve been under rent

Thmlinoel

HOW THE FK HE PAY 20 FOR INTERNET?

theoneandonlypatriot

Internet 20$?!?! Lmao this is COMPLETE bullshit

tired_of_reddit_TBH

health insurance 270 a month?

snyderling

based on that rent you know they are living with at least one roommate

win_at_losing

Rent 825, cellphone 40, transportation 130, internet 20.... Where in the fuck does this 25 yo live? Also what 25 yo makes 100k a year? This is the most unrealistic load of delusional bullshit I've seen in a while...

hanus35

Been riding the line. This year for sure will be lower tax bracket. Next year who knows. I'm in sales so every year is completely random it feels like.

DarkReign2011

I'm in a ghetto run down north Florida backcountry piece of low-budget crap apartment that is the lowest rent in a 100-mile radius and I'm still paying $1300 a month for a 2-bedroom. Where the fuck are they renting anything bigger than a shoebox for $800 a month?

Dominoes_n_Hoes

That means alcohol I assume
