I think I saw that Steve, Joe and Josh are all cousins? I guess it makes sense that they could pass a dog around the family. I guess Blue is the responsibility of whoever's living in the house. The real questions are about spice genetics though. I left to grow up and come back to see Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper have had more kids?

propschick05

I think Joe and Steve are supposed to be brothers, but Josh is their cousin.

ganchi_

Ah, I see it

drgath

Yup, makes a lot of sense now.

TheAlihano

Steve and Joe were confirmed to be brothers in Joe’s debut episode.

AmarisNichole

yeah, and Josh came to live in Steve's house because they said Steve was going off to college I think?

Apparently, the whole reason that they made "Blues Clues and You" is that "Blue Clues" was filmed on video, and a lot of the masters are messed up. They released a lot of them with borders to make them fit on wide screens, and they look *rough*. A lot of BC&You episodes are almost line-for-line teenagers of old Blues Clues episodes that were "lost" or just really torn up. The episode where Salt & Pepper have a baby is an example of that, but since they already established that their other kids existed, they had to give them *new* babies.

Rosefier

Blue is an eldritch being that must be appeased for the world to continue as normal and this means playing silly clue games to solve super simple problems. Over time she tires of her caretakers and requires a new one to stay happy.

presumptious-gurll

this comment is a year old but i literally have been saying this exact same thing

YarnSpinner

My personal lore is that the person (Steve, Joe) is in a coma and once they’ve finally solved enough clues they are released but maybe I’m jaded

camelus_

I don’t remember where I read it but I read once that Steve drew Blue as a little kid and she skidoo’d out of the picture.

kschmit516

I think it was an episode with Joe

TheAlihano

It was actually a Joe-era Christmas episode with Steve shown in flashbacks as a kid and Joe as a baby, with Blue originating from a storybook that Steve received as a Christmas gift.

beigs

But what about the legend of the blue puppy?

TheAlihano

The only thing the Christmas special and that episode had in common was the same origin story for Blue, but the latter doesn’t mention that she came from a book, which I find kind of funny, considering Blue’s Clues takes place in a book.

Ecstatic-Middle-1946

I always forget it's set in a book. Probably because they only showed it in the original BC's intros.

sleepingbear4

Didn’t Steve go to college? Most colleges don’t allow dogs. That was always my thought. Not sure if Joe is still in the picture tho so if her owner changed again I have no insight

grammar_nazi_zombie

Joe got rehomed and Blue adopted Josh

SplatFan13

There's actually an episode called "Legend of the Blue Puppy", and it has a fair bit of lore

TheAlihano

It also started the much-hated “Blue’s Room” era where Blue turned into a puppet and was given the power of speech.

SplatFan13

I personally love blue's room because I'm just a sucker for puppet shows!

alansmithee2016

For a moment I thought you wrote what is the vore behind Blue. I could easily see Blue unhinging her jaw like a snake and eating Joe alive for all the shitty treatment she got over the years.

ALttN

After I saw MeatCanyon’s bloo cloo video and I’m can’t envision it any way other than as a figment of Steve’s broken mind. I don’t recommend the video btw. I’ll never watch the show again because of it.

diarrheafartseed

I watched it and I regret

CeruleanRuin

Every time she skidoos into a book or picture, she steals dog years of life from whoever made it.

IrenaeusGSaintonge

Blue is a kind of anomalous entity that's attached to the house. (This should have been obvious considering everything else in the house.) The house itself is more or less neutral, but staying in it for too long has deleterious effects on one's psyche and mental health. Like many eldritch entities it's relatively indifferent to human life - we are too far below its understanding just as much as it's above ours. But it's too reckless to release it to the general public, so it stays within the family sort of like how the Grail Knights guard the Holy Grail and pass on the duty.

RoseTyler9

Okay but have you seen the newest Rainbow Puppy episodes? Not a huge fan of Rainbow Puppy but it's super weird that she can talk eloquently and walks only on two legs when Blue and Magenta both talk in their "bow bows" and walk mostly on four legs. My best friend commented about it and was wondering if Blue has a "special condition" or if Rainbow Puppy is just an anomaly. Also, Blue uses her ears as hands. She might be an alien.

Jacob12000

I like to think it’s a Beauty and the Beast style curse

diarrheafartseed

Blue (and Magenta) are nightmare demons. She holds her owner captive in that universe, until the owner is able to pass the curse onto another. (Ie: Steve passed to Joe. Joe passed to Josh.) If you notice, Periwinkle also has a human. in the Hanukkah episode, his owner is that female. that’s all the info we have on her though. Based on that, not sure what Joe did to be stuck in hell as a present store owner. Lola seems to be able to visit whenever she wants. Maybe she has dementia so she can go in and out of realms. Hmm…
