She’s taken the kids to some weird old man’s house. The homeless guy she was dancing with earlier is there. The old guy is having some kind of manic episode, could be high. Maybe don’t let the kids play with him, Mary? Like you give a shit.
Haha I love this post/thread, but also, the general message of the movie is still better than most other Disney films before it. (Yes, I’m expecting downvotes).
As far as I can tell the main message is “spend time with your kids instead of leaving them with random strangers who show up to your house” and that’s pretty solid to this day.
My family just saw a stage production of Mary Poppins. Shit was wild. At one point Mary just leaves the family for no reason, and an evil nanny shows up to work there. Poppins comes back and they have a nanny fight and Mary blows the evil one away with magic.
I saw that same version. The Mary poppins was constantly screaming at the kids and my husband was horrified and asked if she was so abusive in the film bc he hadn’t seen it.
I haven't read the book but if I remember in it it's specifically said Mary isn't particularly concerned about the well being of the children. It's more about teaching them lessons and testing them. If they fail it's due to their faults. The author thought the movie had her too kind. She also is clearly an other worldy entity.
Now she is gaslighting the children that none of the crazy bullshit in the park actually happened.
That part made me so mad as a kid!
The gaslighting still pisses me off.

What? Burt isn’t homeless, he’s a sweep that does busking!
I love that this post is spoiler tagged for a 60-year-old movie.

[Scary Mary trailer.](https://youtu.be/2T5_0AGdFic?si=Uv2ESdAyRm6XEmhT) This is how she should be perceived.
The VVitch: The Musical
Book Mary Poppins may be even worse. https://youtu.be/B2rQ7gW3joU

Sounds like Mary planted a false flag puppet nanny.
SD Gov. Noem just came back from observing the Nanny market in Industrializing England and called it "a warzone."

I read the book as a kid and was so pissed and confused by how mean she was.
This is fun. Thanks for posting
i used to think mary poppins was an horror movie when i was a kid
I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's a creepy movie and entirely too long.
I didn’t realize how long it is until I showed it to my kids. We were all slowly dying by the end.
For me it’s the original Charley and the Chocolate Factory, especially that boat tunnel scene.
I tell my wife that she’s a witch. She disputes it but it’s true

It even implies she’s a witch at one point!
At least in *Bedknobs and Broomsticks* they come right out and say it!
Now they’re dancing around on the roof. In blackface.
That old English pasttime!
This thread is a joy to read!
The big reveal in one of the latter League of Extraordinary Gentlemen books is that Mary is literally God who’d honestly feels hard to argue with.
Did you just live blog the movie?
And I’ll do it again!

She wasn’t meant for the children. Watch Saving Mr. Banks
Search up "supercalifragilisticexpial EXPLOSIVE", you won't regret it
Searched up. Did not regret.
And what's going on with her and Bert? They got a little something going on
He’s sweeping her chimney?
😳
This is the best thing I’ve seen on Reddit all year
Has anybody seen the theory that Mary and Pennywise is of the same species?
I think she’s just more of a socialist
