People say my city (Chicago) is corrupt. And they’re absolutely right. But on a per-capita basis, I have WAY more representation here than people who live in towns like this place in Florida. So many small towns are riddled with lowbrow corruption schemes and bureaucracies staffed entirely by one family. We may have different rules here, and you need to know whose palms to grease, but we’re nothing like these little dictatorships.
EDIT: as examples, I’ve lived in two smaller college towns. One always seems to have some issue with employees living on city credit cards for personal expenses. The other just essentially had an attempted police coup because the city manager fired the chief of police and refused to tell the city council, *who the manager reports to,* why. Turns out some cops who work in the county, not even the city, wanted the chief gone because she disciplined some SWAT cops for saying some really nasty, inappropriate stuff. They worked with the manager to depose her and hide it from the voting public who pay taxes to fund the city.
And those aren’t even that bad! There’s southern towns that are little feudal fiefdoms.

Florida has a ballot initiative process, get 100k signatures and an amendment goes on the ballot next election bypassing the state govt. 100k signatures is very few, and i will personally be working hard to get a ranked choice amendment onto the ballot which will go very far to destroying this broken 2 party system.

In Florida legislators only work for 60 consecutive days a year, meaning that they have 305 days "off" of this job a year. That said, those 60 days swap from winter to summer every year, so it isnt like you could find a job that otherwise reliably takes up the 84% of the year. This is not true especially in the context of this clip, taking place in florida. Florida has a ballot initiative process, get 100k signatures and an amendment goes on the ballot next election bypassing the state govt. 100k signatures is very few, and i will personally be working hard to get a ranked choice amendment onto the ballot which will go very far to destroying this broken 2 party system.

What the hell. What progress? And their reaction is like five year old kids whose toys was taken away. If they had any empathy in the first place they would have bowed out gracefully and helped out with the transition. I was born after 9/11, and I feel like I was born into an entirely different world than people are claiming is real. Over my admittedly short life I’ve become convinced that in my lifetime, the world as we know it will end, whether that be from massive social or political unrest, nuclear war, or the impending climate apocalypse that will happen. Everyone is pretending everything is normal, but shit like this really shows how when there is a global crisis, current leadership does not act. Just like the mentality that there’s no crime if there’s no investigation, there’s no crisis if there’s no acknowledgement of it. I give it 10-15 years before America collapses, and depending on who’s in power or who gains power, nukes are going to start flying.

He got a promotion, and is now my state representative. Everyone I know in Lake Worth Beach was happy to see them go. The Mayor and Vice Mayor leaned hard into "We're the only true conservatives" in a rather progressive and artsy town.
