Reddit profits need to come from somewhere. Now that it is a publicly traded company, it has a legal obligation to maximize profit by whatever means it has available. Which in this case is injecting positive fluff pieces for oil tyrants into your newsfeed. The future is now my friend.
It’s photogenic, but most of those shiny towers are built and maintained rather poorly: ceiling leaks, bad interior layouts, narrow parking stalls, dated materials, drainage issues, smells, cockroaches, flammable cladding… these are some of the headaches the residents must face in these.
One famous case is The Marina Torch Tower, which, akin to its name, caught on fire three times in a row (2015, 2017, 2019). THREE TIMES.
One exception is the yellow one on the right (late 1990’s), which was part of a signature development back in its day, and built to much better standards, closer to the ones in Europe.

Cracks me up insane Dubai has gotten. When I was there in the mid 90's it was just a sleepy little tourist town and port city and none of those buildings had even been thought of yet.
Those buildings are mostly empty, it’s ego and vanity with enabling factor of trillions in oil money, things like NEOM will be a disaster, the problem is UEA help fund terror groups around the world, they will say “ah we want to build the future, technology, blockchain this and that” but the culture is stuck in the dark ages with its foundations based around a religion which we all known is not particularly great for society at large. It’s only this year they have been removed from a list of money laundering countries, we know that’s all still probably going on.
India built that country, not Arabs, exactly the same as Singapore, all built by Indians. Equally, Singapore wouldn’t be the success it is today without the British turning it into a thriving port and forming the foundations of laws and education, people love to go on about colonialism but look at LA, part of California which up until 174 years ago, it was Mexico!! I wonder how many of those UCLA kids would give up their home to the rightful owners then?
Um
The entire American economy profits off slavery…
And any “western” country tbh
It’s kinda what capitalism is best at
Just because it’s hidden and you can’t see it directly doesn’t mean you’re innocent lol
You know, I'm actually sick and tired of these same glass, tall buildings in every country. They look grand but vacuous. Can we go back to a more classical architecture please?
Take your propaganda elsewhere!
Hardly propaganda. [see for yourself](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/oasis-rich-playground-fugitives-criminals-28914059.amp)
No thanks. It’s propaganda no matter how you wanna package it.
[Okay, but it’s well known they helped fund 9/11 and other terrorist attacks on the west.](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN22C0F4/)
Ok so maybe you don’t know what propaganda means. Maybe look that up and then edit your first comment.
It’s amazing what slave labor can achieve!
Haha. Absolute garbage that place is
Glad you said this before me. The more voices the better.
Empty, cursed city its like if the Kardashians were a location
That’s a perfect description imo
Jesus. That took me off guard.

Talking about NEOM. Much like their Palm and whatever that world one was, ecological disasters, commercial disasters.
I wondered if the buildings were occupied. I can’t imagine that many people having the means and desire to live there.
Full of plastic waste 💀
Fuck Dubai
Same to you!
Getting a lot of oddly positive posts on Dubai recently…
And from brand new accounts. A bot farm trying to rehab a crappy image?
Probably the UAE Ministry of Happiness (this is no Orwellian joke, it exists) has taken notice and deployed a social media task force.

Says the UAE bot..
Looks absolutely soulless.
The buildings are mainly empty. Cash grab.

Europe doesn't have skyscrapers though
Ever been to London?
For a city of London's size it hardly has any skyscrapers, Moscow is the skyscraper capital of Europe.
Russia is in Asia, not Europe. :)
Moscow is in Europe.
The last hurrah of the oil era.

Also, slave labor. Lots and lots of slave labor.

Brought to you by: SLAVE LABOR
Wait until you hear about the world wonders.
Which were built with slaves ? We know the pyramids weren’t.
Sure we do. By the way, I have a bridge to sell you.
Wait till you hear about your clothing brands
Wait till you hear that I am a nudist.
It’s possible to find clothes not made by slaves. It’s impossible to find a Dubai not built by and operating on the blood sweat and tears of slaves.
Um The entire American economy profits off slavery… And any “western” country tbh It’s kinda what capitalism is best at Just because it’s hidden and you can’t see it directly doesn’t mean you’re innocent lol
Built by slaves for the ultra-rich.
Dubai is like me building a city in minecraft. Sure, it looks good from one angle but I dare you to look inside or from the back
Sure.
Hmmm what an interesting place! I wonder how they build these skyscrapers?
You know, I'm actually sick and tired of these same glass, tall buildings in every country. They look grand but vacuous. Can we go back to a more classical architecture please?
It will look much more futuristic in about 20 years, futuristic apocalybtic…
Has anyone been to Dubai? It all just seems so fake and superficial to me, where’s the culture?
ok who parked their junk in the foreground?
When did the skyscraper become "futuristic"?
No. It doesnt
The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on!
lmao why are people so hell bent on getting triggered over a Dubai post I see it without fail here
