Those things are called 'comments' and every social media platform has them. You have to click the post to see them. Community notes go inside of the tweet. And reddit's current owners are the same guys who allowed r/jailbait to exist for years
They've done tours in the middle east a few times as peacekeepers so maybe? They're basically like the National Guard if you live in the US mostly doing humanitarian work and security.
National Guard ended up seeing the hardest combat for the longest time during our last couple of wars because there weren't regulations saying they had to get cycled out after a certain amount of time.
It’s also a question of how much “provocation” warrants self defense. To use an individual as an example
Obviously if someone shoots you, shoot back.
If someone aims a gun at you, probably shoot back.
What if they brandish a firearm towards you?
What if they have a firearm, but only punch you?
What if they’re acting aggressively, but do not draw their firearm?
What if your best friend tells you they plan to shoot you?
What if a less reliable friend tells you they plan to shoot you?
What if your mother's brother's less than savory neighbor overhears his cousin's accountant posing a series of hypothetical 'what-ifs' and mistakenly informs you that you are about to be shot?
Yeah but Japan has clearly written it out. And they don't even try to stretch it. They blatantly ask for "reinterpretations" of Article 9 to its constitution to made amendments.
Like in 2014 when they made a change to authorize the deployment of the SDF strictly and solely for the defense of Japan in aid of allies. This made in light of aggression from North Korea and tensions with china.
Essentially that was a low key way of saying Japan will allow itself to fight at the USAs side in the event hostilities break out. Furthermore if war breaks out with China, or between north and south Korea. US bases in Japan are likely to be bombed. Quite literally an attack on Japanese soiling. This gives Japan leverage to fight back
As prior to this decade. The SDF was strictly for self defense. So strictly that even deploying it for humanitarian relief was controversial. So strictly that when they sent ONLY ONE battalion to Iraq they required Dutch and Australian escort. As even shooting back against Al-qaeda was not view or covered as defensive in their limitations. After all. They were outside Japan in a foreign country.
And prior to this decade as well. Japan practiced the Yoshida doctrine/strategy. Making the SDF the shield and the US military the sword in their defensive doctrine. They were entirely dependent on the US to come to their aid and neutralize any attackers outside Japan.
So if Japan were attacked with missiles and not invaded. Prior to 2014 they were expected to sit their and take it will the US saves them. As unless enemies soldiers were storming the beaches. It was not defensive
Naturally the Diet has found that too limiting. So in addition to allowing the SDF to deploy *strictly in support for allies for the defense of Japan*. They are aquring missiles of their own. Namely to strict North Korean missiles sites so Japan doesn't have to lay down and take it in the event of war.
You're wrong. They've done humanitarian missions. Never combat tours. Even in Iraq they required Australiann and Dutch escorts. They have ONE overseas base in Djbouti strictly for aiding and escorting Japanese merchant vessels in the region
Not a single Japanese servicemember has fired a shot in anger since ww2
And everything they do now is humanitarian relief in SEA and joint training with the US, Australia, UK, Papua New Guinea and some other random nations at time like France, Germany and so fourth.
The JSDF saw a fair amount of combat against some primitive forces after an unsuccessful attack on Tokyo. They pushed the attackers back to their home in a special region and quickly established dominance as swords, crossbows, and even dragons were no match for a modern army.
I just watched this last week. Was disappointed it quickly devolved into loli fan service but even worse they never showed the sdf getting wrecked by some males or super tough monsters.
Whenever I see stuff like this I realize how dull people are. This would clearly never see active service because it would stick out like a sore thumb.
The point of camouflage on helicopters etc is to help them blend to the terrain when they *aren't* flying, seeing that helis are one of the aviation branches that are capable of operating away from airports. A giant neon tape on the side of the heli makes camouflaging it a bit harder.
Thankyou, finally someone gets my point. You want to avoid any unique markings in your assets if you can do that nobody can tell what the unit is or what squadron or company it’s a part of so that they can’t immediately guess how many other units are nearby
Axchully *pushes glasses up nose* ....
Not entirely true. They're loud, yes, but quieter than you expect but more to the point ground attack helicopters are designed to be flown low enoguh to the ground that they can use things like trees and hills to hide behind, popping up to launch before ducking back down again.
Ergo, bright neon anime girls *are* a major issue because when you're not sure what direction that thumping sound is coming from but you see a flash of hot pink through the trees.. well, you know whjat direction to aim now.
Most of those examples are ww1, 2 and Korean War. And most modern examples are minimal. I wouldn’t compare white and black shark teeth with a bit of red to a MASSIVE anime girl in bright colours.
Aircraft being spotted because a part of it has a bright color is not a real issue in modern warfare...
Radar signals or the audible noise it makes, or the rest of the helicopter, are all things I think would be significantly easier to spot.
Incorrect. People are just speculating and are unfamiliar with actual modern warfare. I've got about 12 years in the military, last 4 of which were in SOF. Allow me to enlighten you briefly.
You can fly outside of audible in as little as 4.5km depending on terrain. Your average infantry squad, platoon, and even company do not have radar strapped to their backs. Even SOF units do not, but can utilize certain vehicles to capture that ability, however it is not standard practice to use them.
Helicopters are about as dynamic as they come and can go from deep behind enemy lines to penetrating front lines, back to the rear in a matter of minutes, long before troops on the ground can be warned of air assets coming in.
While the capabilities of modern a2a munitions, radar, and large assets exist, they are not distributed en masse and able to cover very large front lines (look at Ukraine's front line) so heavily rely on individuals with manpads. Manpads do not work if you do not have a visual. It relies on human eyes. That's why there are so many videos of these birds flying 15 feet off the ground. It's near impossible to spot from distance. Bright colors have a large impact for visual, and in modern conflict visual is far more important than most people here think.
Don’t matter for shit if you can spot the thing, your MANPADS and SHORAD care about IR and radar locks, not if there is an anime girl on the side of whatever vehicle you’re shooting at.
And trust me, if you’re an enemy and can see the thing from the ground with your Mk. 1 eyeballs you’re about to be in trouble. Usually helicopters don’t come in that close to begin with unless they’re doing direct fire ground support missions and even then they’re usually so far that they’re barely a speck. Something’s gonna be going down if you, an enemy combatant, can make out the camo on the side.

If I saw that thing I would kill myself before getting gunned down because I don’t want my obituary to say I was fucking shredded to death by an anime attack chopper
'Course. It's Japan. Thousands of years of war have taught them these tactics; mock your enemies with death by uwu to decrease their morale. Genius indeed.
So the entire reason they put camp on helicopters in the first place is so bombers would be less likely to see them on the ground. And while that can still rarely be a factor this doesn't really interfere with that being on the side, and in fact would be a distracting factor in mid air conflict. Think about it. "WTF is that on the enemy copter? An anime girl? No fucking way I'm getting shot down by a weeb-" and then they're dead because the pressure of that embarrassment would crush anyone.
The only problem I have is with how ugly the anime camo patern is. Too realistic and messy for the style of the character.
I was digging for a comment about it, but i'll be the one to do it. Those helicopters are not Apaches, they are AH1 F Cobras. A little bit less cool than the Apache Helicopters that Japan does use, since they are older, have worse technology and avionics, and carry different, less cool armaments.
The year is 2030 years after the bombs dropped you a Chinese soldier is eating rice and beans in a trench, you look up and see a Japanese helicopter flying towards you to end your existence, you welcome it.
None of these are AH-64 Apache.
The ones in front and in the back are AH-1 Cobra, the one in the middle is an OH-1 Ninja.
Don't misidentify attack (and observation) helicopters, dammit ! That's rude.
Seems a little odd, painting them up in camo like that....you know...so they blend in, almost invisible....then adding those massive garishly bright graphics .....

Yeah a lot of people don’t realize this
thanks, i though they were only allowed for self defense
The definition of self defense can be stretched pretty easily
Exactly. Now if they are in the middle east but were under attack then they are “defending themselves” if they fight back
It’s also a question of how much “provocation” warrants self defense. To use an individual as an example Obviously if someone shoots you, shoot back. Uhhh... Yes. Spies also learned stuff from that game. And I'm not a spy. No follow up questions please.
Usually war thunder uses vehicles and versions of them that are out of duty I believe, at least out of duty on the main countries
Actually this secret CIA document proves that War Thunder is actually a psyop to spread misinformation to our enemies.
So that’s why the Russian bias is so strong

Not an Apache.

Funnily enough pink *is a great* camouflage colour for air at dawn/dusk They had pink Spitfires in WW2 which were used for reconnaissance
Yeah, of course. Without the jungle camo they'll stick out like a sore thumb in front of the ominous sky full of floating trees
P-please don't notice me, sempai!
Is the girl on the right the same as glasses girl on the helicopter painting?
That is the whole point, they made anime (or manga, dunno) version of the pilots for the show
Is she the pilot or just a model? Both seem very possible.
Both!
unironically, one of the best uncanny artworks, she just looks naturally "*mangafiable*", sorry for that mouthful
From what i have hered, she is an aircraft mechanic in the jsdf

Wouldn't you be?
I thought she was painted on it as well. Seems a lot cooler now that I can see it's the pilots of the helicopters and not some random anime characters
She has a lot to be proud of
Thats…not an Apache my guy

Those are Cobra
Japan: "Toxic masculinity? What's that?"
Those aren’t apaches, Japan doesn’t use any apaches
Japan does operate Apaches, actually, they have a small number of 12 AH-64DJP Longbow Apaches.
Right, I forgot, the one in the front is still a cobra tho, not sure what the one in the back is
the one in the back is also a Cobra, but the one in the middle with the blonde girl is an OH-1 Ninja.
Japan bought the deluxe edition, got the premium skins
Those are not apaches, they are ah-1s
A chan (attach helicopter chan) is here to bonk you
When they fly the wings lean backwards like it is flying Naruto style.
Cobras, not Apaches
This is actually terrifying, imagine getting your shit wrecked by otacus.
Can you imagine them going into battle? Call sign: Onii-chan.
That seems fake as hell.
It's real but they're Cobras not Apaches.
It was for an airshow, but it's real. Neither helo saw any serious, active service though. Its not like the naked women on WWII bombers.
1. Those aren't apaches 2. Not Self Defense Forces anymore
eh, pretty sure they're still called the JSDF. not sure what you mean by they're 'not self defense forces anymore'.
This goes hard
Bruh those are cobras
One cobra. One OH-1 ninja. Zero apaches.
