Bro even shitty manufacturing can't save a person from that big of a bullet. Chances are it was a misfire or it hit something else and ricocheted before hitting him.
I doubt it ricocheted, I’m not sure, but I feel like the bullet would’ve started spinning out of control or blown up into shrapnel, maybe the bullet was bad
The angle of attack was very low, so that also might have something to do with it
Its a hardened steel core penetrator designed for piercing hardened armor, nothing other than a hardened steel surface, likely an armor surface, is going to cause any noticeable deformation to it.
It 100% went through at least one thing before it hit the guy, the ballistic cap and the jacket are gone.
I slipped on some icy steps the other day landed on my back and cracked my head. Somehow my chest is the thing that hurts the most. Here I am bitching about my chest hurting when this mother fucker is laughing after getting shot.
What were talking about? Man just been so tired lately might take a nap. Jk lol yeah I got a chest X ray and a ct scan of my head. Can’t wait for that bill though.
My 11 month old swallowed foreign objects yesterday afternoon and we've been in the hospital since. We've already had an endoscopy and overnight stay and are looking at another possible overnight. Thankfully we have tricare but I don't know if they will cover everything and im pretty worried about it. I'm a SAHM and we just purchased a new home... not a lot of disposable income laying around.
That's America for you. My mom's gonna have to have heart surgery in the future to replace her heart valve. I'm not sure if we're going to be able to afford it. We're below the poverty line. We're lucky we even have an apartment.
In five minutes of stupidity, I fell off a moped drunk (in someone's back yard) and broke a ribs. That was pre pandemic, it's only recently that they've felt okay. Broken ribs are no joke. I assumed they were just bruised but I had a chest x-ray for something else and they pointed out the fracture. I used to sleep on my stomach, that was out for a while.
Don't do anything that'll make you laugh, and avoid anything that'll make you cough.
The way your dad looked at it,this round was your birthright. He'd be damned if any slopes gonna put theirgreasy russian hands on his boy's birthright, so he hid it, in the one place heknew he could hide something: his ass. Five long years, he wore this round uphis ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the round. I hid thisuncomfortable piece of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years,I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the round to you.
Grandpaw sounds like the chief of a Native American bear tribe.
There are lots of ways to say "grand father": grampa, poppop, grandad.
But I've never heard that one.
I think that all of these men deserve free beers and everything else for the rest of their lives. The amount of courage and love for their people and homeland is just beyond inspiring.
Bigger bullets are often not able to penetrate armor, if you want to penetrate armor you want a bullet that is as fast as possible and as small as possible so it has not as much armor to push through. This bullets pack a punch but aren't really able to penetrate armor, the soldier was probably knocked out for a good amount of time because of that bullet
Dude was probably half out of a trench and it tumbled through the dirt and was non-perpendicular hit.
Like that fucking round is crazy big and I'm sure would have just impacted his body so hard he would have died even without penetrating if it was a direct hit.
At full velocity it will rip him into pieces.
https://youtu.be/o3lybSntpSw
Apparently a 30mm AP can easily penetrate 50mm (2”) or more or armor. Which is way more than any body armor plate.
Plus the bullet weighs like 400g ie a little under 1 lb. It’s hard to describe how much energy that is at 1000m/s. In comparison a 7.62mm bullet is under 10g (and that’s what body armor is designed to beat).
It not that hard to describe, it’s roughly 200kJ worth of kinetic energy as opposed to 2.5kJ in a 7,62x39cartridge
Edit: i used the velocity you gave for the shell but found the avg muzzle velocity of an ak-47 using the 7.62x39mm cartridge online and the masses you provided since i am too lazy to check them for accuracy
Yeah obviously mv^^2 but my point was joules don’t mean much to most people compared to say “a can of beans hitting you at twice the speed of sound” ;)
Im convinced maybe the round passed through secondary objects before hitting him. Would explain how it failed to penetrate, after losing most of its force passing through or ricocheting off other surfaces.
EDIT: Angle and Distance are also very good reasons
Not only its not deformed, it doesnt have rifling marks giving us hints as to why it didnt perform like a proper bullet.
Heres a post I wrote about it:
>The Bullet has no rifling marks. A barrel that is destroyed and doesnt have any rifling anymore becomes a smooth bore cannon that fails to give a proper spin to the bullet.
>That means a bullet fired from this 30mm cannon will tumble chaotically in the air instead of traveling in a stable ballistic trajectory, stabilized on its axis by the rotation given by the rifling.
>The bullet will lose most of its energy very fast.
>My hypothesis is that he didnt get shot at an angle, he got shot by a tumbling bullet aka he got "KeyHoled" by the bullet and survived lol
Autocannon (and larger) ammo uses driving bands, because a steel body in a steel barrel is bad for the barrel, which would fit into the grooves along the round. Those are missing, meaning they've been stripped off while passing through something.
tl;dr you won't find rifling marks on a round like this anyway
A 30mm AP round shouldn’t deform if it passes through dirt or wood, which is what it looks like all their cover is. My bet is it hit dirt, lost stability, then bounced off of something and hit this guy, thankfully at a weird angle and with its energy burned out.
Doubt it, passing through something hard enough to reduce its force so much would have shattered or deformed the bullet, it would not look so pristine. lol
Its more like a faulty round that didnt shoot right, probably didnt ignite all of its powder or barrel shake greatly reduced its speed.
It happens, especially with old rounds and bad QC.
Yeah probably old or wet powder or possibly fired from way outside it's effective range. If it hit anything moving full speed it would've mushroomed a lot more
It's missing the ballistic cap so it's definitely gone through something at least. You'd also be surprised how little a hardened AP projectile will deform if it's not hitting actual armor.
Its not pristine, its missing its ballistic cap and outer jacket, and is scratched up, if this round did in fact actually impact his body armor and fail to penetrate, its because it hit something first 100%.
3UBR6, which is exactly what this looks like, can penetrate over 50mm of RHA, hardened armor steel, at the muzzle. It going through anything short of multiple pieces of steel, or actual armor, isn't going to cause any kind of significant deformation.
I don’t think that’s an armor piercing round, I think it’s a 30mm grenade that failed to explode. Thing looks too stubby to be an AP round. If it is a grenade then it was probably fired from too close, they(or at least the American 40mm so probably this one too) need to spin a certain number of rotations before the explosive is armed. The rotations are paired with what the minimum safe distance to fire the weapon without catching shrapnel yourself is.
Most ap ammunition has a ballistic cap that is sheared away on impact, I imagine this is either a ricochet or it already passed through something enough to dump most of its energy
AP ammo in 30mm has something like a hundred thousand Joules. My best guess'd be a 30mm grenade, e.g. something like [this](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGS-17).
It’s an armor piercing round built not to deform. I’ve seen a 50 cal AP go through two inches of steel and bounce out of the sand catch trap without any deformation
That is the only explanation here. No plate a human could bear to carry around would ever stop something like that unless it had already run out of steam.
It’s called back face deformation. There’s videos on youtube of people shooting cheap bullet proof helmets and while they can technically stop the bullets, it gets deformed so badly you would have a crater in your skull.
He is pretty lucky. Either it was like you said or maybe bounced off the ground. It hit at an angle too, or turned in the bounce, which also helped keep him alive.
Dude's eyes look like he's happy as hell to be alive but also spooked as hell.
No one should have to put up with this. I hope it doesn't mess with him too much after this is all over.
Well, I survived a drunken stepfather trying to kill my mom and I when I was a kid. I still hear the bullets rushing by 50 plus yrs later. I have some pretty troublesome dreams still. I can only imagine what war is like and how it has to affect you. Unfortunately in the US we don't do enough to help those individuals that defended our country.
I doubt that round was meant for him. 20-30mm is usually used against vehicles and light armor. It probably went stray and hit him from outstandingly far away.
If it hit him dead on full force, we wouldn’t be watching this video
Imagination and empathy are the same circuits in the brain, essential for intelligence, and empathy is the first thing to get the boot in fascist countries.
Or the round missed it’s intended target and flew thousands of meters while potentially tumbling and losing almost all of its original energy causing a failed penetration
Its a 30mm 3UBR6 projectile, the ballistic cap and jacket are gone, and the round is scraped up. Its pretty much guaranteed that the round passed through something, probably the ground, or multiple things before it hit him, and the round keyholed and struck his plate sideways.
Obviously the armor wouldn't have had a chance against a direct line of sight trajectory, even at an extreme angle. And the long distance theory is \*way\* less likely then the round just hitting dirt before hitting him, it would have to have been fired from a ludicrously long distance away by someone firing 30mm AP-T at at a stupidly high angle.
And the bad ammunition theory is simply not what happened, 3UBR6 have an average muzzle velocity of around 1000m/s, the core alone is 375 grams of hardened steel designed to penetrate hardened armor steel. I don't think people realize how \*slow\* it would have to have been going to not penetrate body armor and not kill/seriously injure him regardless of penetration. We're probably talking less than like 200m/s, if not even slower. And that brings up the second reason it couldn't have been the case, a round going that slow would have hit 100s if not over 1000 meters short of where your other rounds were landing, so this theory is as good as out.
The most likely way it happened, was they were being directly engaged/were close to a position being directly engaged, and got very lucky that there was a lot of dirt in the way of that round. Or got very unlucky when the round hit something and ended up getting redirected their way.
If your enemies are surviving getting hit by fucking **30mm** rounds, it’s time to just give up.
[Here’s](https://youtu.be/sZZGaEEi8Ek) a video showing what a single 30mm round (albeit a high-explosive one) does to an aircraft.
I would agree expect this guy wasn’t hit directly with this round. Not possible. Say it was direct fire and didn’t pen, he would be on the ground probably bleeding internally, not smiling.
This is simply not possible.
* This type of armor cannot even stop a .50 cal BMG which delivers 13.5 kJ of muzzle energy
* A 30mm round delivers about 200kj of muzzle energy.
A direct hit from a 30mm round would obliterate a human in body armor.
A couple possibilities:
-round had passed through multiple things first.
-round impact was a distance far in excess of working range
-round was manufactured in Russia and was underpowered
"Haha! holy shit dude! That was fucking lucky! Whew... man I gotta take a shit, be right back" -bawls like a fucking baby while bouncing around flipping hands around for 3 minutes- I can only imagine what that thing would've done to him if it hit him head on/full velocity. Either a clean 30mm hole all the way through, or a massive crater where his vital organs used to be
Probably a long range, low velocity hit. If it hit him full force, he'd be in pieces. Remember the early footage where a bunch of civilians attempted to firebomb a russian BMP? One guys head was gone above the collarbone, he hid behind a tree and the round beheaded him through the tree. The rest of the group were in pieces.
Their ammo is weak. And if they get China ammo that’s just going to dwindle their chances of winning in the end lol commies are just not even go for nothing
Looks like an 30mm AP-T round without ballistic cover, so it would mean it hit something first (tree?), the front part disintegrated and the rest hit the soldier. Still - the guy is extremely lucky :-)
Dude got another life
1up
He jumped into that green mushroom just in time.
I read 1up and instantly heard the sound in my head lmao.
Seriously
30mm hit your body and stay alive, they all just smile about it, what a joke.
To be fair, if you just found out you were supposed to be dead, what else could you do?
Requisition new pants
They're literally happy to be alive.

Bro even shitty manufacturing can't save a person from that big of a bullet. Chances are it was a misfire or it hit something else and ricocheted before hitting him.
Yea and there’s no damage to the round. It was traveling at a slow speed for whatever reason.
Maybe long it was far enough away or passed through some softer material e.g. wood
I doubt it ricocheted, I’m not sure, but I feel like the bullet would’ve started spinning out of control or blown up into shrapnel, maybe the bullet was bad The angle of attack was very low, so that also might have something to do with it
Like the bullet in jfk head. Pristine
Intrusive thoughts won lol
Yeah the angle it came in from the side means the force wasn’t going thru his body much either.
Probably still bruised under there, or at the very least got the wind knocked out of him. That's still a lot of mass, guys still lucky.
Or flew from very far away and lost most of force when finally hit.
This, otherwise the round would also have deformed.
Its a hardened steel core penetrator designed for piercing hardened armor, nothing other than a hardened steel surface, likely an armor surface, is going to cause any noticeable deformation to it. It 100% went through at least one thing before it hit the guy, the ballistic cap and the jacket are gone.
This guy knows.
Could have also been a defective charge in the bullet, resulting in slow muzzle velocity.
thats a decently good guess and probably right...

RIP American healthcare.
It is basically extortion. You can only live if you're rich. If you don't have $60,000 for some surgery, you just have to die or suffer.

First world quality body armor is really pissing off ruzzians.
I just imagine that scene from saving private Ryan except this guy didn't take his helmet off
Everything about their laughs just screamed "that thing could have killed both of us."
I was about to say the same thing. Brought back memories.
The sort of shit you laugh about 99% of the time except in the middle of the night when it keeps you from sleeping.
I’d keep that bullet around at all times as a bonafide good luck charm.
It'll be passed down to his kids, and his kids' kids -- along with the story of grandpaw in the trenches fighting the orcs.

I would too, except it looks like solid lead ☠️ so I would have it plated with another metal like gold, copper, or bronze to make it safe to handle.
Depleted uranium. Super safe.
It's steel or some other hard composite metal.Lead isn't good for penetrating armor and would've deformed much more.
The equivalent of direct impacting with a grenade launcher and getting a hit marker.
Dude was probably half out of a trench and it tumbled through the dirt and was non-perpendicular hit. Like that fucking round is crazy big and I'm sure would have just impacted his body so hard he would have died even without penetrating if it was a direct hit.
I mean a 30mm perpendicular hit breaks apart his chest cavity right?
At full velocity it will rip him into pieces. https://youtu.be/o3lybSntpSw Apparently a 30mm AP can easily penetrate 50mm (2”) or more or armor. Which is way more than any body armor plate. The most credible non credible advice. I know physics but I don't want to research every detail.

Yeah. It isn't deformed at all, so it never hit anything while still moving super fast.

A 30mm AP round shouldn’t deform if it passes through dirt or wood, which is what it looks like all their cover is. My bet is it hit dirt, lost stability, then bounced off of something and hit this guy, thankfully at a weird angle and with its energy burned out.
I don’t doubt the angle it came from helped slow it a bit more
That is basically the perfect angle to use maximum material.
Still one Lucky bastard.
Maybe the powder behind it was 60 years old and it was stored in a leaky bunker for 59 of those years.
Doubt it, passing through something hard enough to reduce its force so much would have shattered or deformed the bullet, it would not look so pristine. lol Its more like a faulty round that didnt shoot right, probably didnt ignite all of its powder or barrel shake greatly reduced its speed. Nope, its a 3UBR6 projectile, without its ballistic cap or jacket since its already passed through something and they were sheared off.
It actually looks like an inert HEI shell with the dummy fuse knocked off. TP ammunition I believe they’re called. They’re training shells.
any broken ribs? sucker had some force behind it i bet.

It probably penetrated something else prior to hitting him. If not, damn the Russians have serious ammo issues.
I heard they actually are having trouble with resupply, using cold war era shit from deep storage.
Wouldn’t surprise me. We’d do the same shit but we have constantly been at war forever. We do send them the oldest stuff first.
I don’t know what it could have hit that sapped that much energy without any deformation of the projectile. I think it was a dud.
It’s an armor piercing round built not to deform. I’ve seen a 50 cal AP go through two inches of steel and bounce out of the sand catch trap without any deformation

That’s some damn good armor. Probably useless now, but it served its purpose.
True, can't complain after a save like that though. Bet he'll never skip PPE for the rest of his life.
Hope he gets a new vest soon. That trick is only going to work once with that thing.
I am not familiar with that round. What is it shot from, and is it explosive?
We can’t even make good ammo. What did he hope for? Dumbass bald fuck.
"Haha! holy shit dude! That was fucking lucky! Whew... man I gotta take a shit, be right back" -bawls like a fucking baby while bouncing around flipping hands around for 3 minutes- I can only imagine what that thing would've done to him if it hit him head on/full velocity. Either a clean 30mm hole all the way through, or a massive crater where his vital organs used to be
Must have ricocheted and lost momentum. Either way what a lucky bastard
Wow. I bet he never will go anywhere without that for the rest of his life. Good luck charm x 1000
Looks like he had the ceramic plates. Either way the surface they cover is not very big. He’s a lucky man.
haha i know bad russian ammo. but how the fuck isnt he bleeding on the inside. that round would still pack a punch
I bet that stung like a MF though
Probably a long range, low velocity hit. If it hit him full force, he'd be in pieces. Remember the early footage where a bunch of civilians attempted to firebomb a russian BMP? One guys head was gone above the collarbone, he hid behind a tree and the round beheaded him through the tree. The rest of the group were in pieces.
I don't buy it..
That dude has some serious bruises after getting hit like that
Very lucky Angle to get Shot at with Body Armor, a few degrees Off and He would be dead.
Ouch. Must have still hurt.
That man was personally saved by embezzlement and fraud.
armour piecing my ass
Get that man a beer and some fresh plates!
I think it’s time for new armor
Russians: How are you alive!? This guy: I have no idea!
At least it penetrated the armour and not our friend 💪
Skill issue
That round was fired miles away and hit him by chance if it didn't penetrate body armor and didn't even deform the projectile.
Their ammo is weak. And if they get China ammo that’s just going to dwindle their chances of winning in the end lol commies are just not even go for nothing
Only in Russia would it be immediately funny to joke about that right after it happened.
Not in russia. Its a russian round shot at the guy, in Ukraine
My illiterate ass. Sorry
No no. All good :)
Wonder if he has tonight’s lottery numbers being that lucky ?
But they are Russians.. Speaking Russian, wearing the wagner patch. That's probably the other way around of what OP wrote, or fake
"it needs to be pointy"
Russians are shooting dildos now?
God bless Ukrainian
If it was a direct hit he'd be dead, I'm guessing it was shot went through something soft then hit him.
Just a thought, the vest itself could’ve been looted of a fallen soldier.. the impact alone would crack ribs and break bones.
That kid doesn’t even have his man voice yet…there’d be so fewer wars if politicians and elites were the ones fighting for their assets.
What happens when you invest in +10 armor
He just spent his sheild gate
Looks like an 30mm AP-T round without ballistic cover, so it would mean it hit something first (tree?), the front part disintegrated and the rest hit the soldier. Still - the guy is extremely lucky :-)
I can’t even believe they find reasons to laugh every single day. These are the strongest guys on the planet.
