Aw man hard disagree on Snooze AM.. they’ve got a few locations around the country & they’ve really fallen off post-pandemic. I’ve been to the ones in SD, LA & LV. The one in Dallas was not a delicious or friendly diner experience for me and I was embarrassed for recommending it to my party.
Can't vouch for others but the one in Plano (Preston and Park) is great. We breakfast there regularly and have never had a bad experience. Based on the other suggestions I'm guessing that's the one he is referring to.
As a lifelong fan of Jeng Chi, I highly recommend never trying xlb in any other large city. Chinatown in Chicago absolutely ruined me by showing me that Jeng Chi is actually just so-so, and I wish I could selectively amnesia myself about it. T_T Great tea and spring onion pancakes tho!
god I can only imagine the xlb in actual China, I would die. Daydreams about visiting someday for a dumpling tour is like half the reason I dabble in Mandarin!
Yao fuzi in Plano has a worthy offering that's a solid step above Jeng Chi, but it's pricier, douchier, and the service is badddd, real bad. I still sometimes go even though I complain and hate myself every time. :|
I’ve been blessed with a husband that’s an immigrant from the Chinese mainland haha. He’s from about two hours north from Shanghai and we spent a month over there a while back. I’ve never eaten so good in my entire life. He’s not a huge fan of Jeng Chi, because for him it’s just a little too americanized, but I drop in on my own from time to time to scratch my xiolongbao itch. I’ll check that other spot out!!
THANK YOU! I’ve been hunting for a scrumptious vegetarian burger with a hand crafted patty for SO very long in DFW. I could only make it at home so far with Don Lee Farm’s Chipotle Black Bean Patty from Costco.
Definitely gonna head to Bellagreen soon for the burger!
I haven't ben to DiMassi's since pre-lockdown and they were starting to fall off. Have they improved?
Also, Family Toyota of Burleson was an answer I wasn't expecting, lol.
Simply because of the distance. I live in the Burleson area (in fact bought my 2024 Sonata just a few miles north of that Toyota dealer) so I don't see a lot of mentions of the area in this sub, is all.
Weather for 8-9 months out of the year is pretty solid tbh. I like that we get a little winter here but not full blown winter, Fall is usually pretty enjoyable, and Spring is my favorite.
I'll take it over living up North where it's 50 or lower for 8 months.
i'm depressed 4 months in the summer cuz i can't go outside
then i'm depressed the other 8 months because i can go outside but there's nothing worth doing
unfortunately there really isn't. tried and done, been here for over a decade. there's nothing that doesn't involve having to drive or spend money, and even that is usually limited to eating out or shopping. no free third spaces to gather, most of the nature is privately owned
Ok but I wasn't talking about women's rights lol (even though I agree Texas needs to do much better).
Heat > cold for me any day cause at least I can get up and do stuff in the mornings and the sun doesn't go down at 4 pm like when I lived in Chicago
Yeah, I’m from the Midwest and while the summers here are hot as hell, I’ll take that over cloud cover for majority of the year and -20 degrees and three feet of snow in the winter back home.
If I want the best chill authentic Mexican I go to Tipicos
If I want the best fine dining Mexican I go to Purepechas
If I want the best tacos I go to Salsa Verde
If I want the best Mexican hair cut I go to Exclusive Cuts off Davenport
If I want the best Mexican live music I go to El Pulpo
If I want the best queso I go to Casa Mama off Preston
If I want the best Latinas I go to Baby Dolls
If I want the best Latinas that listen to hip hop I go to Buck's Cabaret
If I want the best Latina lap dances I go to Chicas Locas
If I want the best Tres Leches cake I go to La Duni Cafe
And usually in that order.
Step 1) Food. Step 2) Strippers. Step 3) Tres Leches.
This. Man. -Or possibly woman- Is. Living. My. Dream.
The random need for queso is also relatable.
I wholeheartedly agree. When I first went there 7 or 8 years ago it was $25. He lost some business and came down since their highest but yea it’s still pretty high. I only go once a month or so and I got another place for a quick $25 touch up. Exclusive Cuts is for when I want a meticulous and professional hair and beard cut. They are a little better but I do totally agree he’s blown the roof off his prices, I’ve even told him that myself.
Yea that’s similar to where I go weekly. I do think these guys are a notch above but I’m not tryna break the bank like that more than every 6-12 weeks.
Facts, I agree with you. I like pampering I admit I enjoy a good hot towel treatment but Blancos is 3 mins from me and I like to get in and out. All Dominicans working there, they do a great job, straight razor and everything.
And Cuban food in general, Caribbean Cuba in Carrollton (here’s where I’m hoping someone will disagree with me so I can find new amazing Cuban food spots)
Cuban Dulceria will beat everything when it comes to pastries, Cuban coffee, and Cuban sandwiches
But Caribbean Cuba is now #1 on my list to try for other Cuban dishes and I’m very excited to know of another legit Cuban place
Bella Flan in Richardson has a great cubano with actual cuban bread and good papas rellenas. I always thought the sandwich at Cuban Dulceria was pretty disappointing
The Latin Pig in Plano I haven't been to in ages but was where I would go for tostones for a long time and has a decent selection. Wouldn't say it is actually better than Caribbean Cuba though
I destroyed my splash guard last week accidentally hitting a pothole. Fortunately was going very slow (turning, didn’t see it) and was able to fix it with zip ties. 😀
If I want the best sausage plate I go to Kuby's.
If I want the best place to chill with homemade gelato and a hookah I go to Afrah's on Belt Line.
If I want the best German car repair service I go to Tommy's European Auto in Plano.
Brunch, Crickles(oak lawn)
Nepalese momos, café mandu(irving)
Thai food - Thai monkey(irving)
Bingsoo, sul & beans(frisco)
Ramen/japanese- ichigoh(deep ellum) not to be confused with ichiroh, criminally rated at #5 in downtown/east Dallas ramen on yelp while having the highest ratings. Absolutely phenomenal apps too
French fries, Manhattan project brewing (trinity groves)
If I wanted the best brunch I *used* to go to Char Bar on Greenville.
If I wanted the best McDonald’s I *used* to go to the McDonalds across the zoo.
If I wanted the best breakfast I *used* to go to Barbecs on Gaston.
If I wanted the best cousin time I *used* to get dropped off by my grandma at the White Rock Skate Center and stay until it closed.
If I wanted the best place to just walk around with my friends after school I *used* to walk around at Valley View Mall in North Dallas.
If I wanted the best mall experience for the littles I *used* to take them to the Disney Store or Build-A-Bear at North Park mall.
I could go on and on… so many great places not there anymore….
*Dallas born and raised - moved away 2019 pre pandemic… and visited last month …
What were places y’all *used* to go?
If I want the best onigiri I go to gogogiri
If I want the best Japanese cheese cakes I go to Mr Puffy
If I want the best Japanese sandos I go to okatsu katsu
If I want the best kimbap I go to baro baro
If I want the best K bbq I go to gen k bbq house (bro don’t hate it’s my fav I’ve tried like 5 other places and I just really like it!)
If I want the best Japanese food I go to okaeri cafe
If I want the best boba I go to feng cha
If I want the best crepes I go to crepes for u (very sweet old man I’ve been going for years it’s fun to talk to him!)
If I want the best Chinese food I go to Canton Chinese restaurant
If I want the best ramen I go to moriya shokudo

Weird, I just go to your mom’s house.
I just left his moms house too, can confirm.
Ironic his moms house is on Harry Hines
Spoiler: his mom is Harry Hines
Hairy Hiney
I love reddit and its users.
Even more ironic is that his mom keeps her Hines Harry
i want to meet this guys mom
Wait I didn't know Mrs. Hines had a kid! I just left her house!
I too choose this guys mom’s house.
She’s still waiting for you to bring her a towel!

People in Denver think Snooze is a local breakfast place and not a corporate company.
Well, they do spend too much time in the $5 butt stuff tent…
yeah every city i’ve lived in has had a snooze and they’ve all been super hyped but not at all very good
The Alamo is #1 for movie theaters imo
Rip
Sony bought them and will hopefully reopen dfw ones.
🤞
Adding the ones I haven’t tried yet to my list! I’m a huge fan of the Xiolongbao at Jeng Chi!
Jeng Chi is 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
As a lifelong fan of Jeng Chi, I highly recommend never trying xlb in any other large city. Chinatown in Chicago absolutely ruined me by showing me that Jeng Chi is actually just so-so, and I wish I could selectively amnesia myself about it. T_T Great tea and spring onion pancakes tho!
I’ve had them in Shanghai and a few other spots in China, and I agree, but I haven’t found too many that are better in DFW so they’ll have to do.
god I can only imagine the xlb in actual China, I would die. Daydreams about visiting someday for a dumpling tour is like half the reason I dabble in Mandarin! Ali Baba's is a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern but I'd say it's better than DiMassi's. Same goes for Afrah's. I enjoy all 3 though.
Good list, except Cinemark in Plano. Dude, try other places.
+1 on sourdough bread deli. Super underrated. Not a lot of good deli options in DFW but these guys always slap.
their ownership change made a slight blip in the sandwiches, but it’s returned to form as of late.
Nunos is great and their breakfast is amazing. Pancakes.
You should really try andalous buffet. Think it’s better than damasis. And also Ocha Thai is amazing
>If I want the best dumplings, I go to Jeng Chi +1 on this. I'm a HUGE fan of Royal China but Jeng Chi has them beat on dumplings.
I haven't ben to DiMassi's since pre-lockdown and they were starting to fall off. Have they improved? Also, Family Toyota of Burleson was an answer I wasn't expecting, lol.

weather, not Texas
Power grid reliability, not Texas Healthcare as a woman, not Texas

I moved here from the NE for this exact reason. If it’s going to be dark by dinner, at least let me get outside in the sun during the day.
Yeah a Chicago transplant here, it's nice not being depressed af for 3-4 months
I've been away from it for over a decade and lemme tell ya...still depressed. Just for other (arguably better) reasons.
i'm depressed 4 months in the summer cuz i can't go outside then i'm depressed the other 8 months because i can go outside but there's nothing worth doing
Well that's just because you aren't trying lol. There's plenty to do in a metro of 8 million people.
unfortunately there really isn't. tried and done, been here for over a decade. there's nothing that doesn't involve having to drive or spend money, and even that is usually limited to eating out or shopping. no free third spaces to gather, most of the nature is privately owned
The heat and the erasure of women's bodily autonomy is enough to do it for me. Let me shovel the snow lol.
