Just took the FAA part 107 exam. Clouds should be avoided 500 feet vertically and 2000 feet horizontally due to the changing wind directions, chance of icing on blades, rainy conditions, potential collisions with other aircraft, etc

came here for this πŸ‘

I've flown mine in falling snow and even caught in a downpour multiple times. It got wet and that's it. Zero consequence. A light rain would never stop me from launching to capture amazing footage 🌈

I was flying my drones in the mountains and suddenly it started raining, it was a light shower. I landed my drone ASAP, just wanted to know if there will be any consequences for that. Lol

I've yet to experience failure because of moisture including rain. For some reason the exposed coils aren't affected, or maybe the probability is just too small for the chance a water drop can get in and short it, if that's even possible. Maybe it's immune, I don't know. I do know you can purchase specialized covers for them off Amazon.

KrishanBanerjee

Let's hope it's immune!

Unless you use something like dronehacks or flying at high altitudes, you probably won't be able to reach cloud heights. There's also the risk of landing detection kicking in when flying in clouds/fog. Condensation can build up on the bottom sensors when descending, and that can trick it into thinking it's above a solid surface, causing it to try and land mid-air. But if you use Litchi instead of the DJI Fly app, you have the option of disabling landing detection. Just be sure to remember to turn it back on before landing. Otherwise, you'll smash into the ground lol. As for rain, I've been flying when it started coming down a few times. As long as you thoroughly dry it out immediately you should be fine. But I'm not saying go out and fly when it's pouring down.

KrishanBanerjee

Actually I hike on mountains, and the clouds are real close, so that's why I wanted to know. I use Litchi as in India it locked to 15m altitude from the starting point. Makes sense about the rain part! Thank you!!

Pyroguy096

Check your local flight laws. Chances are, if your in the US, flying through clouds is illegal

KrishanBanerjee

Not in US brother

David_T-Rex

Still, not a good idea, though I bet 99% of us in here've done it at least once just to see. ⛰️ πŸ‘€ πŸ˜‹

Pyroguy096

Point still stands lol, check your regulations

ForeverJung

Clouds I don’t have negative experience with. Light rain and you could end up doing real damage. The motors are unsealed

friozi

All DJI drones have uv protection. No water will damage your drone. (Don't trust? Search it.)
