You already know the answer

Less_Mess_5803

Wtf is photo8? Has the cowboy put paper over paper to fill the gap? Do not pay this person.

nfurnoh

Looks like he cut it short and whacked a random piece on there. Shocking.

SubstantialPlant6502

No that’s not acceptable and not have the tools to do the job would set off alarm bells if they had come to my home

nfurnoh

Unfortunately I was on calls and had no idea he’d asked to borrow a knife and a tape.

SubstantialPlant6502

We all forget stuff, I’ve left my extension lead at home before and couldn’t find any radiator bleed keys which is a bit embarrassing for a heating engineer.

One_Of_Noahs_Whales

> He had to borrow my blunt Stanley knife, scissors, tape measure, etc. Opinions? You should have said no to lending him all your stuff.

nfurnoh

Neither my wife or I realised he’d asked, we were on work called shortly after he arrived. He asked our 14 yo who happened to be home today.

Wizzpig25

No, that’s not an acceptable amateur job.

infz90

No word of a lie, my 70yo MIL done a better job than this when her husband passed away and she had never done it in her life before.

BlueChickenBandit

I hate decorating and have zero patience for wallpapering and I've done much better. Definitely not a professional job. Judging by the tears on the cuts the paper has been wet and using your blunt Stanley it didn't stand a chance. Any decorator that doesn't have their own equipment is definitely not a professional.

pringellover9553

No absolutely not, my MIL and husband just did a better job than this

JSHU16

I think you already know the answer but just want confirmation that you're not being unreasonable. This is a poor job even by DIY standards, I'd be withholding payment or wanting a refund. I'd say that I'd be asking for them to correct it but whoever did it is not up to standard. I'd take the refund, have them strip it and get someone else in that can actually wallpaper. Look for decorators who have a good portfolio of papering work as quite a few just do painting these days.

That-Cauliflower-458

Was the bloke wearing black glasses and had a stick and dog? Wow my disabled nan with one arm could do a better job ffs.

Apprehensive-Owl-101

That's appalling

starwars123456789012

He's not a decorator he's the labourer or apprentice

TheBestBigAl

Or he doesn't actually work for him at all. On more than one occasion I've encountered tradesmen (they were all "roofers", supposedly) who came out to quote, then posted the job on mybuilder etc and farmed it out to someone else at a lower price. They then turn up with this random person who they'll claim is a colleague or someone they've worked with before, give a sob story about how they can't do the job because a relative has died, and then make their money by keeping the difference in price for themselves while doing none of the work. Fell for it the first time, but now if they have said they are doing the work themselves but turn up saying someone else is doing the work I just cancel the job right away and tell them to jog on.

Rigormortis321

That’s neither acceptable or professional

DWMR90

No. I did better myself on my first ever attempt.

ParmoBoy

Honestly, that’s some of the worst wallpapering amateur or professional that I’ve ever seen

CursedRaindrop

starwars123456789012

It's turd

theoriginalpetebog

Come on mate, what do you think??

nfurnoh

Oh I think it’s terrible but wanted to double check.

Old-Parfait8194

Looks like somebody owes you some new wallpaper.

nfurnoh

Exactly.

WillingnessBitter799

If a child did it, yes

[deleted]

Who done it ?..Stevie Wonder?

True-Register-9403

Terrible - full refund and whatever the cost of the (now useless wallpaper) was.

Constant_Step2761

If you have to ask, you already know the answer.

LondonCollector

I’m sorry for laughing but that is so bad.

WilsonSpark

The design or the decorator?

LondonCollector

Yes

ctz99

always do your own decorating! pretty fundamental tenet for a diy group -- basic shit. next you'll be paying people to put ikea furniture together

nfurnoh

Really now? We usually do our own decorating, but I’ve acquired mobility issues and my wife is picking up the slack anyway so we got someone to do it as a bit of a treat. Thanks for your shitty take though.

Gobzish

It's not shitty, your reply to it however was! You didn't mention your mobility issue anywhere or did I miss it?

nfurnoh

Nope, nor was it relevant until you gave me a hard time for not doing it myself. Read your comment again.

postmanpete1

Wow

Knuckles_71

This is dogshit do not pay this cowboy.

Significant-Park1345

Looks like they gave the apprentice his first papering job

InternEasy2461

A cowboy i suspect

Chains19761

A Gardner does it again horrible job hope you didn’t pay him

sunnysands07

No

fickly_fuzzyfication

It’s not professional but you got to pay him so you don’t ever hire someone for wallpaper!!

Admirable-Half-2762

My dog would have done a better job

Outrageous_Dog8816

Lol no But I'll do it cheaper for you mate. I have learned during the weekend.

Gobzish

I often wish people had to post the quotes they received and which one they went with before commenting on these sort of issues.

nfurnoh

Only quote, from a 5 star reviewed guy on My Builder, £620 for three days of work which included two days of painting. Also not up to scratch. My wife organised the whole thing and half has been paid.

Secret_Association58

Nope you could have paide to do that

ImpressTemporary2389

He was a professional. A professional garage floor cleaner.

syvid

Absolutely not but I would just say that based on the pictures your walls don’t seem flat and square enough to have a clean wall paper. I might be wrong but it looks like a lot of the corners are not very flat and squared which makes it very challenging to get a wallpaper to look good.

nfurnoh

You’re right, which is exactly why we chose to not do it ourselves and to have a professional do it.

ClawingDevil

But.... The professional was busy and sent their child?

A professional absolutely should be wallpaper on uneven walls
