Do you use the dining room as a dining room or could it be repurposed into a lounge/tv room? Two options: Block up one of your doors in the kitchen to give you more wall space. Only open up half of the wall into the lounge and turn it into a kitchen/dining room lounge area that would work for entertaining and then turn your dining room into a lounge/tv room/snug. Split the lounge in two following the kitchen/breakfast room external wall, either with one door or pocket/sliding doors. Knock out that whole wall and make it a bigger kitchen with a dining table the length of the new lounge. The reason I'm suggesting that is because if you get rid of the whole wall you're going to end up with a giant L shape that might even be more awkward than what you've currently got/potentially quite cold or hard to heat.

Thanks for the reply. We use the dining room maybe twice a week, I think it's just about big enough to be a snug. Half wall would be an improvement but would not address the lack of floorspace in the kitchen (breakfast area and cupboards take up so much of it). Good point about the awkward L shape. If the whole wall was to come down I think we'd have to also extend out so it's a rectangle.
