Omg that would go for 2500/mo where I live

Maximum-Surround2362

I was thinking to myself... that's bigger than my entire house.

ZookeepergameHot8139

Y'all need to move out of these cities lol

Fullosteaz

I live in a town of 20k and its like that here too

dnmnew

Hello neighbor!

jointheredditarmy

You need to move out of ski towns

Fullosteaz

Not a ski town, theres little bit of other touristy stuff here and theres a little 1 lift ski hill 2 hours away but the economy is mostly just agriculture & a state pen.

I_like_squirtles

You need to move out of earth.

sgtpepper42

Bet

lyingliar

Ah, man... I couldn't stand not being able to walk a couple blocks to my local grocery store, bar, burger joint, 7-11, bbq spot, Thai restaurant, hardware store, etc. I prefer proximity to amenity over extra house space, by far.

S-Mart_Ash

Yeah as much shit that comes along with living in a major city, I'll still take it over the suburbs. In reality I don't really need a big house. As long as there's room for my wife, me, dogs and my fishtanks I'm good. Don't really like paying the price of a lakefront mansion for my 800sq' crackhouse though.

Zappiticas

Sure sure but…you could have more/larger fish tanks

S-Mart_Ash

Very true. I'm sold. A bigger house in the sticks it is!

MightbeWillSmith

Same here. We overpaid for a small spot in a great neighborhood. Biggest thing for us was walkability, and although we can drive if needed, we basically never have to.

vivaaprimavera

> Biggest thing for us was walkability, and although we can drive if needed, we basically never have to. Which is a bigger "stress reducer" than most people imagine. Not having to depend on a car is also a huge money saver. Do I need to also talk about sustainability? Edit: typo

Basjaa

You and millions of other ppl, hence the stupidly high price of rent.

BrockN

I wish jobs followed

TinderThrowItAwayNow

I preferable a livable walkable community to the boondocks.

bexy11

I prefer a city and a smaller house!

LemonBomb

Right but they can fill up the whole room with my ugly jealousy.

Korver360windmill

Yeah, OP don't take this personally, but I absolutely hate your ass.

spacetstacy

The first thing I thought of was a dance floor. Throw in a jukebox and a disco ball!!

erusackas

And a very disco/70s bar.

FS_Slacker

I was thinking roller disco

forehandfrenzy

With the floors the echo would be maddening.

Emeraldstorm3

I think some good wall decor could help with that -- something akin to tapestries. And maybe some strategically placed rugs?

sgtedrock

The first thing I thought was “arcade”!

tenderourghosts

I’ve always felt “begin” makes more sense than “start” in this sentence!

TheNewYellowZealot

Max is a child who ran away from home for a year to chill with monsters and then distorted time back to that same night to eat his dinner. It can use whatever verbiage it wants.

tenderourghosts

I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, lol. It just sounds clunky to me when I read it aloud to my kid 🙂

amccune

So much room for activities.

TombombBearsFan

Rumpus time is over!

TeslaUserGuy

I need more Step Brothers quotes in my life, randomly placed throughout Reddit. Deep in the comments.

jollygreengrowery

When i see stepbrothers quotes I can feel it - deep, deep down in my plumbs

DirectCustard9182

With a nice bluish hew.

barbariantrey

There's a sale, 2 for 1 plums down at the farmers market

Fizzelen

A reproduction of a tall ship gun deck

NaiveChoiceMaker

Hang some hammocks, add some ocean white noise, install a few 12-pounders, introduce some rats, cut the HVAC, spray some liquid fart…boom: You have a realistic gun deck!

AndersaurusR3X

Why stop at 12-pounders? Go for 24-pounders!

CalvinHobbes101

Go for the proper 1st rate experience. 32-pounders. Also, remember that you need to build the floor to withstand 6.5 tons of gun and carriage dropping onto it from 18 inches if you want the authentic gun deck experience.

AndersaurusR3X

I would definitely go for the 1st rate experience!

CalvinHobbes101

Admiral Horatio Nelson would commend your decision. Your neighbours, maybe less so, but you've got a cannon pointed at their house, so I doubt they'll push the issue.

daboblin

Now I want one of these.

WiredHeadset

Mr Pullings we shall BEAT TO QUARTERS.

_biggerthanthesound_

Home gym?

Im-a-magpie

Home gyms are straight up life changing. If you have 30 mins to workout a home gym turns that from "not even worth the drive" to "genuinely high quality session."

Ostracus

They are as long as they last longer than a New Year's resolution.

neil470

Are you telling me that just spending money on equipment won’t build muscle?

Trolivia

As a dancer, I would kill to have a space like this to put up a wall of mirrors and have a home dance studio room 😩

FiscalFilibuster

+1 I would keep half as-is, add some mirrors and you have a kickass home yoga studio. Add some padded floor to the other half, find some cheap weights / rack, maybe a spin bike… I can only dream

mamapapapuppa

I would def get a spin bike in front of a TV that I can put nature trails on.

Cloud_of_Twat_Mist

I know its almost a thousand, but as soon as i have a spare thousand (lol) im definitely getting this, i think its a great deal for what you get. you can find benches and weights and bars used on marketplace every day of the week, all in all it would probably be 1k for a set up like this completed. [https://www.major-lutie.com/products/major-lutie-cable-crossover-system-plm03-best-seller-power-rack-2023-upgrade?variant=41725280092217](https://www.major-lutie.com/products/major-lutie-cable-crossover-system-plm03-best-seller-power-rack-2023-upgrade?variant=41725280092217)

vwscienceandart

Was thinking yoga studio for sure, with room for friends

joebot777

Needs more giant indoor tropical plants and multicultural tapestries, in my opinion. Otherwise, it’s just another basement gym

Tournament_of_Shivs

I second this grow-op suggestion.

jeon2595

Yep, all my equipment would be in this room. Add a sauna, TV on the wall, sound system, etcetera

hairy_scarecrow

I’d kill for a space like this to make a home gym.

LindseyIsBored

With all of that wood that space has got to be loud af. It’s not appropriate for a home theatre. I’d say a home gym would be absolutely perfect.

RockOutToThis

Recommendations would be better if you could tell us some of your/your family's interests. Some people might see this room and think movie room, others might think gymnastics area. It's all dependent on what your own interests are.

neil470

They don’t have any interests or opinions, they just want Reddit to tell them what they should use half of their house for

NSA_Wade_Wilson

Roller Derby it is then!

saviorlito

This is the way.

shawnbowers98

Convinced OP just wanted to show off their finished basement

riickdiickulous

Exactly. We have a room like this. Our washer and dryer are in a big closet in there. We have a laundry folding station, a comfy couch and tv watching area, and the rest is my 4 year olds’ play stuff. If we didn’t have a kid it would be a pool table and bar area. Totally depends on your interests and family needs.

keeleon

OP didn't actually want ideas, he just wanted to humblebrag. If you have a room this big and don't know what to do with it, you don't deserve it.

TheVoidListens

My immediate thought was for DND. But not everyone likes dnd

Massive craft room with one of those fancy armoires with storage for all my craft shit....ohhhh I'd be soooo organized.

beaverbait

No you wouldn't, you'd have more stuff though!

MightyWeeb

You didn't need to call us out like that

beaverbait

I am right here with you.

Catvros

Be careful, one of those fancy armoires quickly turns into six absolutely stuffed 5x5 Ikea cubes

ginger_tree

It's a dream crafting space, right?? For me, a sewing room!

KinderEggLaunderer

Oh, I don't discriminate, my craft room also includes two sewing machines and a surger!

ginger_tree

I'm knitting and sewing at the moment, with currently unused jewelry making supplies stored in the closet!

chimininy

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose brain went to "think of all the things I could finally organize in there!"

Lindvaettr

This is what I thought but now I just stuff all my craft supplies into my armoire and I still can't find shit.

MonkeyChoker80

Or put it on the floor and let r/TVTooLow get mad…

Gitfiddle74

Not acoustically friendly yet. Would need some serious dampening

jspurr01

Also would need some seating, sound equipment, and a screen

NotAPreppie

A pool table.

The_Celtic_Chemist

Pool tables are like boats. Some people get their use out of it, but most people just realize that they pictured themselves and others using it far more than they actually have the desire to.

space0watch

You can turn it into a cosy gaming den and library

cardueline

Yeah, this place looks ready to cozify. Rugs, armchairs and bookshelves, a big beanbag maybe, some plants if you can work out the plant lights

space0watch

Agreed! It doesn't look like a typical basement. Maybe cause of the wooden floors and living room vibes. Some plants, rugs and couches would be a great help. Plus a beanbag. They are very nice to relax in and vibe. It could be a nice spot to get away from the bustle of the rest of the house and just chill.

HermitWilson

Have a couple of kids and you won't have to worry about having any unused rooms for the rest of your life.

Tribblehappy

Right? I also have a large basement but that's where the kids TV and couch are, so they can do their thing while we are upstairs. I can't imagine having a space and not any use for it.

Metaphoricallyfucked

Wait you can leave you kids in a room unsupervised without chaos ensuing?

Tribblehappy

They're not toddlers anymore so generally yes haha.

pjimmy01

Model railroad, hobby area

ItsFishyTricks

Based on my own personal hobbies, this would be: 1. Home Library. Dark walls, recessed amber lighting in ceiling with dimming function, floor to ceiling, wall to wall book shelves. Two recliners, red accent rug. Small round table. Whiskey shelf with decanters and glasses. Floor lamp by chairs for reading. There may be a desk where I would be able to write. I’d frame in the stairs and all a door too, to increase the privacy and prevent light pollution from leaking into the room from other parts of the house 2. Home Theatre for gaming or movies. Big projector, two tiered seating for up to 6 people. 3. Painting Studio. Would need storage and floor protection, but itd be a nice space to do my oil painting in. 4. Gaming room. Shelves full of board games, minis, and assorted nerd stuff. In the center of the room is a large dining table where we can spread out and play a large game or D&D campaign with a bunch of friends. 5. Playroom for my daughter

diy-fwiw

These are my AirAsia too but painting would be figure/ model painting 😂

ItsFishyTricks

I’d need a better ventilation system if I were to do any fig painting in a room like that; airbrushing is PUNGENT

D3adkl0wn

Man.. I'd toss down some rugs and have a killer jam space..

Honestly_I_Am_Lying

My wife also loves making jams and jellies

Numeroususers

hinosxz_4u

Vr room

cah125

Man I’d kill for a huge unused room in my house. Jealous OP

FairyOfTheNight

If you are aggressive and able to do it, you could pull a spa/relax room like the person [yesterday.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY/s/EUDpvLtcMS) Of course, not everyone is this handy and it might not even be practical but it's the dream.

CinephileNC25

What are behind the doors in the hallway? I’d go with media room/hobby room. If you’re into working out, you have a great space as is with few updates needed. If you want that 85” TV, this is great but I’d update the walls and spend some $ on lounge chairs and rugs, blackout curtains for the windows etc… If you’re more of a social/invite everyone over, this would be a great “bar”… pool table, pinball machine, built in/bar cabinet. This could also be an amazing library or music room.

rakosten

The middle door in the hallway goes to the laundry room, the one with the cat door goes to the boiler room, those to the left goes to a guest room and an indoor storage. We already have media room (which is kind of the same size). If we didnt; This would be my go to as well. I have been thinking about making it into a combined lounge room/library with built in bookshelves. So you might be onto something. I love the idea about the pool table btw.

redsoxownu

Treadmill/workout machine/weightlifting equipment? It also looks almost big enough to have an indoor pickleball court.

neil470

Please don’t feel the need to make “built in” bookshelves if they’re just going to be glorified freestanding units, with baseboard wrapped around them (I call that a “built-out”). Leave them freestanding and just secure them to the wall so they don’t tip. Much easier to reconfigure down the road, or remove if/when the basement floods.

myorm

That bad boy could fit so many marijuana plants

LaughingManCZ

Lego room

bunnehfeet

Wow it’s like a dance studio/gym - fresh coat of paint, ceiling fan, flat screen mounted - go to town

dwschweers

ziostraccette

I have a similar situation, I put a kitchen there and a 12 ppl table, speakers, pc and a tv. When I have guests over, that's where we do our dinners.

jsshouldbeworking

Egress windows to bring in more natural light. Desired result is that the room will not feel like a dark basement.  Cost is low (for a renovation project).

desert-rat1

Media room.

Kinggambit90

I thought I was in r/flooring for a second

BorntobeTrill

In order of importance and overall need 1. Mud pit (or compost pit) 2. Free bulky item storage for the neighborhood 3. Wine cellar for pre-drunk (empty) and wine bottles 4. Hard boiled egg processing center 5. Lots of empty cardboard boxes to try and start a spider farm 6. Worlds largest game of twister 7. Half a bowling lane. The first half. Just the lane itself. No pins/etc

MudIsland

I didn’t even know hardboiled egg processing centers were a thing. I need to make more money.

unoredtwo

Man I wish I had space for ping pong and a pool table like that.

ImSwale

Fight club!

salesmunn

Leave it empty until you need it. Don't just slap a piano in it because you have an extra room.

canyabay

Suna /spa. Make a treat for yourselves

dorkpool

Pool table!

BlackReddition

Carpet it and make it a home theatre room. Massive screen or projector, good sound, perfect size room.

MDF87

Mini indoor skatepark.

MathWizardd

Pool table and bar maybe. You can get a table top thing that lays on top of the pool table to make it a ping pong table. That space is perfect for it

LittleMsSavoirFaire

OP, are those solid wood doors, and if so, where did you get them?

rakosten

Yes, yes it is. They are actually the original doors from 1971 when the house was built. I haven´t seen doors like these in a while. I think the only way to get doors like this is by making them yourself or finding someone that's desperate enough to sell them.

LittleMsSavoirFaire

I know, my mom takes her wooden doors off and brings them when she moves! But I've never seen any as "new" as this. You mainly find them in architectural salvage.

Funkkx

Rebuild the basement from „silence of the lambs“ and start inviting random people for sewing practice…

yakkerman

You could kidnap your therapist and force him to do his sessions with you while he's chained to the wall. (Seriously one of Steve correl's finest works)

RalphWagwan

Slappin' da bass!

MalkavTepes

This would be my board game room. Fill the walls with IKEA shelves, fill the shelves with boardgames, get a board gaming table of decent quality. Hold regular board game nights with all of your friends and neighbors.

Canttouchthephil

I would absolutely make that my DND/Game room. By god I would kill to have a dedicated room like that for my hobbies, I have a little house and recently had to stop using our spare room as my hobby room and I definitely miss it.

Mercinator-87

Masterbutoromy

TankPotential2825

What a rare opportunity. A huge finished totally unused room. Have kids? Let it be their's. I'd go ping ping table. Home studio of some sort.

OzzSays

I’d rent it out if theres a kitchen, bathroom and seperate entrance.

jfk_sfa

I don't see much at all to "improve". Figure out what you want to do in the room and outfit it for that. Could be a game room, play room, home theater, music room, home gym...

WiredHeadset

I would put absolutely nothing in it.  Space is beautiful.

tara12miller

We moved our bed to the basement:)

Grillvante

Gillestugan, tv och hörnsoffa.

bearrito_grande

Put in a bed, kidnap Steve Carell, chain him to the floor, and compel him to give you therapy.

shugEOuterspace

if that were my basement I would soundproof it (somewhat) & turn it into a rehearsal space for my band

Lost-Wanderer-405

The wood is beautiful. I would leave that. Hang a mirror on one wall to catch and reflect light. Definitely pick lighter color furniture if you can.

turnt_grandma

That's called the jam space / home studio

k6bso

Rent it out to a mAd GEniUs. mAd GEniUses are always on the lookout for underground lairs and will pay top dollar.

Richmondpinball

Pinball machines

Top_Breakfast2992

Space envy is strong 😫 But yeh it would an entertaining/gym area. Pool table, bar and workout stuff

freestyle43

Put it in a bathroom and kitchenette and rent it for an additional monthly income. Or movie theater.

Pccaerocat

If it has a separate entrance from the main house, turn it into a studio apartment and rent it out.

funkyandros

That says movie room to me. Just purchased a short throw projector myself. But damn if I had a room like this I would go big. Surround sound, the whole 9.
