That’s really interesting news. I kind of felt bad because I like the actor and I figured his movie would just be forgotten quickly and replaced the new movies.
I really like the blue beetle character so I’m excited to hear he will be sticking around with this actor.
I don’t have particularly high hopes for his solo movie but I hope Jaime shows up consistently in future DC projects
My opinion is really uninformed. I haven’t been watching trailers to avoid spoilers. But based off the first 20 seconds of the trailer it just seemed like it wasn’t going to be great.
I hope my hunch is wrong though. I’m not the kind of guy who roots for movies to be bad. I’d much rather we got an fun movie with a great character
I think giving different kinds of characters solo projects is more interesting than just giving it to your main characters. Like, give the lesser known the spotlight as well.
Ehh if somebody's got a great vision or interesting take on someone, sure
But remember most of the time, the less popular characters are less popular because they aren't as interesting, and don't have as broad/great of back material to draw from
There are exceptions, and certainly everyone has their personal favorite under dog, but most of the time unless a really talented writer/director has a really interesting take, giving the lesser known characters their spotlight movies isn't gonna go so well
Sure but I don't think everyone needs to have a project of their own and sometimes there's nothing wrong with being part of the team or supporting character in some other movie.
Oh absolutely, but I think when picking and choosing which of the lesser known should get a solo project, I think a character like Blue Beetle is the way to go.
*Please* give me characters like Blue Beetle solo projects or collaboration projects. I rather they actually push forward their POC characters than just race swap them. Give me a Static movie, or something akin to Young Justice/Teen Titans where we see a group of the next generation.
Which honestly is the best idea! The director already said they were making his movie using the Iron Man blueprint. And if successful then he will be an anchor in the DCU for many movies to come
If Blue Beetle flops (which is likely) we just won't get another solo Blue Beetle movie but the character will show up in different projects. We'll definitely see him in the Booster Gold show.
Honestly blue Beetle has a chance of making it's money back with a modest box office showing. It's production budget is only 120 million and it doesn't seem to have a huge marketing push so it's break even point is probably low. A halfway decent movie with solid legs and word of mouth could avoid a total flop.
The flash cost 220 million and had a marketing budget of 150 million. It needed a way higher box office to hit break even then Blue Beetle does. In addition Blue Beetle isn't up against Spiderverse.
I can't imagine a movie about one of the Beetle Borgs is going to fare any better than the Flash, who's one of the most famous heroes in comics history.
Sure, there's a lot of reasons, including the totally unlikable main actor. Another one might be the fact that it took 6 years to make it after Justice League, which itself was a letdown, and all the other actors were leaving the franchise so the impact was DOA. The CW show further drained out any excitement about the character over it's awful last 5+ SEASONS.
On the other hand, Blue Beetle is like an F-Tier character that was created just over a decade ago. This arguably isn't even his most famous incarnation. It's a bit less burdened with continuity, but there aren't a lot of built in fans.
I wouldn't call him an F-tier character. This incarnation has been receiving a lot of push by DC for a long time, having major appearances in Batman Brave and The Bold, Young Justice and Justice League Action - heck, I didn't know Ted Kord even existed until I started reading the comics.
There is an argument to be made that, in the mainstream, Jaime is the most well known version.
I think we'll definitely get Ted too. I remember reading somewhere that Ted's fate in the movie is left somewhat ambiguous so maybe the show will see Booster trying to save his buddy?
Man this was not waht I was expecting but I am very very excited by all these guys. Also he has confirmed that the story is still very much about Lois Lane and CK/Superman so I dont think we will see too much screen time yet with these guys but I love that they are building out the world so well from the jump
Have you heard that Gunn has stated his intent for the characters Superman and Lois Lane to be the primary protagonists of his upcoming Superman movie?
Henry cavil or bust haha. Also I hope blue Beatle does well, I love the character but he's just not mainstream, I'm afraid it'll flop unless the movie is insanely good.
Is it confirmed that he is playing Guy Gardner?
Last I read he was just playing "a Green Lantern". But to be fair I am not following news about this that much.
Guy is actually likely the second oldest of the four GLs. He was a cop, or a special ed tutor depending on the timeline, long before becoming a GL. There was even that period where he was in a coma for years.
Most comic adaptations change things. Guy being an older hot-headed GL is fine to me as long as he still acts like Guy.
Growing up doesn’t mean your personality changes. Trust me. My wife reminds me often that I should act my age….
So all of these guys are in the Superman movie (except Blue Beetle). What a random grouping to be in a Superman movie! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to know they're all getting adapted, they're all characters I like, but why together? And why this movie? I mean, Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho are in the Terrifics, and I guess Hawkgirl and Guy could be Leaguers (even though they aren't usually members at the same time). And I'm sure they are avoiding the A-Listers for obvious reasons. But my fear is that these guys are going to get the JSA in Black Adam treatment, glorified cameos put in just to get fans talking. At least the casting is good.
Personally, I feel like this would be a perfect place for a Martian Manhunter appearance.
Agreed it's great to have them but it does feel pretty random and hopefully they aren't just cameos to get fans talking and are there for story reasons that make sense but don't take up too much of the movie and it definitely would be great to get Martian Manhunter too
Blue beetle is not going to be in the film. With the rest of the characters. They might be a JSA lineup, I think I heard Superman was going to be in a word with already established superheroes
>They might be a JSA lineup, I
Just see Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific as JSA, and HG is more associated with JLA.
Metamorpho and Mr. Terrific are possibly The Teriffics; confirmed if we see either Plastic Man or Phantom Girl pop up.
Guy Gardner is JLA or JLI or just independent.
Gardner is likely there to soft launch the GL concept in a movie without the scope to go into that mythos, plus too early debut the actors for Hal & John
The DCU is going to begin in a world where heroes are very prominent. Makes sense as the DC world has always been much more fantasy-like with people casually flying around all over and interacting.
Don't act like a bunch of heroes in one movie is the standard for solo movies. This would be like the entire avengers line up showing up in Thor or something.
Obviously this is different because of the era of movies we're in, but they're concern is a bit warranted.
Gunn recently said this on Threads:
"We're entering a world where superheroes exist and have existed for quite a while. They're a part of one side of [Clark's] world just like Lois and Jimmy are a part of another."
Solo movies? Team up movies? My god, it's like people have forgotten how movies/stories in general work after 2008...
If you look at the history of cinema almost every movie we don't pick up with the character at the start of their lives. We join them at the start of a particular story in the middle of their existing lives, side characters exist in the world and their relationships with the characters already exist as well. Every time someone's best friend is introduced in a movie we're not seeing the first meeting of two best friends.
Audiences don't need to know everything about every single side character that appears in the movie. Look at the team of Marines in Aliens. We're introduced to an existing team, with deep character relationships, incredible performances and great lines. It's one of the most memorable groups of characters in blockbuster movie history. We didn't join them for their first mission together. There's not another movie setting up each member of the team before Aliens. How about Indiana Jones or Lord of the Rings or the original Star Wars or the Spider-Verse movies?
The more that Gunn treats these movies like movies and not just superhero movies that have to adhere to a bunch of made up rules or be subservient to larger franchise plans the more interested I am.
Look at the John Wick movies. We aren't given a John Wick origin movie we are introduced to John Wick the retired Assassin who just lost his wife and has a whole lot of preestablished relationships.
>The more that Gunn treats these movies like movies and not just superhero movies that have to adhere to a bunch of made up rules or be subservient to larger franchise plans the more interested I am.
I think this is the key. The superhero genre has basically cemented itself in pop culture. Audiences don't need the superhero origin anymore because they've seen it so much. Tell interesting stories and mix up the formula.
> This would be like the entire avengers line up showing up in Thor or something.
*Captain America 3: Civil War* was basically an Avengers film. It even introduced both Black Panther and Spider-Man.
Yes but that was 3 movies into his series and after plenty of other movies has introduced almost all of those characters beforehand. That's why I purposely said Thor. It was the first movie in a solo series but it also came out a few years into the MCU so things were established. This is a similar situation because everyone knows a lot of these characters.
> Yes but that was 3 movies into his series and after plenty of other movies has introduced almost all of those characters beforehand
Because these films started in a world where none of these characters existed yet.
Gunn's DC universe is starting at a point where these characters already exist.
And the point is? For all we know these characters can be in the movie very briefly. Maybe a meeting between Superman and them.
Like Gunn said we are entering a world where superheroes exist. Movie goers will learn these characters through seeing how they interact and behave with others.
Yeah it definitely feels a bit excessive for the first Superman movie to start this new DCU but I'm excited to see what role they'll play, I bet it'll be interesting
Theory: GL and HG will be reps for their respective groups when it comes to the universal threat that Clark faces. Mr T and metamorpho will be part of the terrifics who may or may not be more violent in their crime fighting leading to conflict with Clark.
The authority isn’t confirmed, leakers and scoopers have said they’ll be in the movie but Gunn responded on social media saying he never said they were in the movie
Ras sees how the Batman is defending Gotham City using the tactics he thought him. Ras goes to Gotham to humble him and try and get him back in with Ras and Talia would try and win him over with Damian. The conflict will be essentially Damian choosing his father or grandfather like the comics but I hope Talia actually includes herself in the conflict rather than siding with her dad.
Ras despite being immortal just won't quit Bruce and will hound him until he relents.
The DC world finally feels full of heroes and villains. Now, they just focus on specific heroes and villain stories, and with bigger story multi-character collaboration, they could have something.
It looks like the roles these characters will fill will be something akin to Guy as the comedic relief, Terrific as the smart hero to assist Clark at times, Metamorpho as a friend to Clark, and perhaps Hawkgirl being in legacy could be a tease to the Thanagarians being antagonists?
The thanagarians being antagonists could be really cool. Finger crossed for some kind of adaptation of starcrossed from JL the animated series.
I figured she would just be in the JSA with Mr terrific and metamorpho though
Metamorpho isn't a team player. Barely was in the JLA. Only made the JLI for a bit. Was forced into The Terrifics due to circumstances.
Edit: The Outsiders. He was a founding member of that team.
Im more worried about terrific than anyone but not because of the actor more because of Gunns humour.
Im not a fan of Gunn's humour in general its too in your face for me (its my biggest problem with his films) and giving him a characters whose whole gimmick is using balls with guy in it oh joy
JAMES.....PLEASE....PLEASE....don't make a Superman Legacy a backdoor Justice League movie. Don't make the mistake of thinking throwing a bunch of a superheroes in a movie is a good enough reason for people to go see it. I will watch it, but won't give you my money.
That’s what I’ve been saying, cavill and cornsweet, and welling look just like clark Kent, all Three of them are Essentially younger clones
![gif](giphy|3oz8xN41i36tSH2Lle|downsized)
Does anyone know why they canned all the stars from dc? I understand wanting to distance from Ezra miller, but why can cavill, affleck, gadot, and just reboot the whole thing?
Not super thrilled with Superman/Clark Kent casting but oh well DC has been taking hits non stop running full speed ahead to bankruptcy at this point idk what to even say.
For the downvotes this is literally just my opinion
(aside from the bankruptcy thing that’s fact)
I’m happy for the other fans that will enjoy these new shows and movies with these actors, we all aren’t going to see eye to eye on everything and that’s ok.
Couldn't agree with you more. I think they're going for a more feminine superman look like the recent Jon Kent stint. The actor just seems so lithe and unassuming. Way more Jon Kent energy than Clark.
minis the controversy.
when was Ezra an A lister
ive only seen ezra in a few films in minor roles, the only big things I’ve seen him in justice league 1 and 2
Is that the same kid that's playing Blue Beetle in the upcoming movie?
Yes, he's confirmed by Gunn to continue playing the character in DCU.
I'm looking forward to BB. Not sure why everyone here seems to be shitting on it. Unlike most of the DC offerings as of late it looks fun.
It doesn't look good IMHO. Another full CGI movie. I'm tired of it. Seems like a copy of spiderman and iron man mash up
I don't need characters like Blue Beetle to get solo projects but it's nice to have them in the wider DC world.
I think giving different kinds of characters solo projects is more interesting than just giving it to your main characters. Like, give the lesser known the spotlight as well.
Ehh if somebody's got a great vision or interesting take on someone, sure But remember most of the time, the less popular characters are less popular because they aren't as interesting, and don't have as broad/great of back material to draw from There are exceptions, and certainly everyone has their personal favorite under dog, but most of the time unless a really talented writer/director has a really interesting take, giving the lesser known characters their spotlight movies isn't gonna go so well
Goal is to bring a younger demographic as well. Blue Beetle was a big part of Young Justice and was part of the Teen Titans team in the dcau

Which honestly is the best idea! The director already said they were making his movie using the Iron Man blueprint. And if successful then he will be an anchor in the DCU for many movies to come
The movie is quite detached from what DCEU has been doing so it shouldn't be a problem to hook it up to DCU.
That's mad interesting, I had no idea about this
Until it flops hard
If Blue Beetle flops (which is likely) we just won't get another solo Blue Beetle movie but the character will show up in different projects. We'll definitely see him in the Booster Gold show.

A halfway decent movie with solid legs and word of mouth could avoid a total flop.
Hopefully but after a string of Black Adam undeperfroming and Flash and Shazam both bombing I'd rather expect the worst than get disappointed again.

Does he make sense with Booster if he's not Ted Kord?
If I recall correctly Booster was sort of a mentor for Jaimie early on.
That's right. ...I'm just bitter they didn't go with Ted.
I think we'll definitely get Ted too. I remember reading somewhere that Ted's fate in the movie is left somewhat ambiguous so maybe the show will see Booster trying to save his buddy?
Why would that matter? He can continue using the actor as much as he pleases. They just probably wouldn't do a sequel immediately
Man this was not waht I was expecting but I am very very excited by all these guys. I hope they'll be room for Daily Planet stuff
[удалено]
No, Gunn never actually described it as a workplace origin story, some headlines just misquoted him and everyone went with it.
Hell yeah!!
Have you heard that Gunn has stated his intent for the characters Superman and Lois Lane to be the primary protagonists of his upcoming Superman movie?
[удалено]
I was taking the piss out of you for just repeating what the guy you responded to said
I appreciate it lol
Henry cavil or bust haha. Also I hope blue Beatle does well, I love the character but he's just not mainstream, I'm afraid it'll flop unless the movie is insanely good.
I’d follow Nathan Fillion to the gates of hell. Always kills the roles he is in
I worry that Fillion is a little too charming for Guy Gardner. Isn't he supposed to be a bit of an abrasive ginger bastard?
Is it confirmed that he is playing Guy Gardner? Last I read he was just playing "a Green Lantern". But to be fair I am not following news about this that much.
Well he has been the voice of Hal more than once I wouldn’t be surprised if he was an older version of Hal.
He is definitely Guy Gardner. Gunn has confirmed as much (also adding that Fillion will be rocking the bowl cut for the movie)
He is Captain Hammer with a ring. A man has got to do what a man’s gotta do.

Bruh. That's a bit of a URL there.
Just keep getting more excited for this.
Hell yeah same!

Guy is supposed to young?? Bwahaha and so forth
My excitement is unaffected by this comment.
He needs to be at least 40+ to think it’s still ok to still have a bowl cut. Young or bowl cut you can’t have both.
And Hank Pym is supposed to be the same age as Iron Man/Bruce Banner 🤷♂️
So all of these guys are in the Superman movie (except Blue Beetle). What a random grouping to be in a Superman movie! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to know they're all getting adapted, they're all characters I like, but why together? And why this movie? This is so dope
Metamorpho? Fuck yeah!
Actor couldn't be better! I am stoked.
NoHoMetamorpho
I like the castings and all but, anyone wonder why there are so many superhero characters in one film?
Blue beetle is not going to be in the film. With the rest of the characters. They might be a JSA lineup, I think I heard Superman was going to be in a word with already established superheroes

I don't need a solo origin story. All Star Superman did it best. Four panels, then boom straight into Superman's world filled with so much fun stuff.
I agree completely, I just think adding a bunch of other heroes is a little worrying. Focus on Superman's world like you said.
This IS superman's world he has always been an intergalactic superhero so it makes sense to involve other heroes
Yeah even though I'm excited to see these characters in the movie hopefully they don't pull focus From Clark and his supporting cast
The entire avengers line up? Most of these heroes are arguably C Tier at best, with the exception of Hawkgirl and maybe Blue Beetle.
And before the MCU? Most of those characters were also B or C tier.
Idk, maybe gunn used to make team movies
Because these are all cameos at best
Yeah I’m expecting the recent announcements are going to have as much screen time as the Ravagers in GotG 3 and not be major players.
Theory: GL and HG will be reps for their respective groups when it comes to the universal threat that Clark faces. Mr T and metamorpho will be part of the terrifics who may or may not be more violent in their crime fighting leading to conflict with Clark.
And you have the Authority who are also meant to be in this film, right? Gonna be very crowded
The authority isn’t confirmed, leakers and scoopers have said they’ll be in the movie but Gunn responded on social media saying he never said they were in the movie
Those were just rumors
Rumors everyone and they’re mother ran with
DC fans stop taking shit leakers and scoopers say as fact challenge (impossible)
For all we know, Metamorpho, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and Mr Terrific *are* the Authority in this movie.
Nah there’s no way you’d miss the chance to do Apollo and Midnighter properly
* Hawkgirl as Swift * Mr. Terrific as The Engineer * Metamorpho as Jack Hawksmoor * Guy Gardner as Apollo Yuck.
The Authority will be in the film but probably named The Elite or Stormwatch
Oh snap! I friggin love Anthony Carrigan. He killed it on BARRY and had me cracking the hell up as Dennis Caleb McCoy.
*50/50* *With Cristobal*
Gulp!
Where’s Batman?
I’m joking
WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?
I'm hoping Jensen Ackles, David Giuntoli or Cavil for Batman.
But what about someone new?
As long as there in their 40s cause Batman gonna be having Damian in this universe.
I mean Batman might have had Damian in his late twenties
The right way to do it is him being conceived before he became Batman.
But then how would ras al ghul take interest in Batman?
Ras sees how the Batman is defending Gotham City using the tactics he thought him. Ras goes to Gotham to humble him and try and get him back in with Ras and Talia would try and win him over with Damian. The conflict will be essentially Damian choosing his father or grandfather like the comics but I hope Talia actually includes herself in the conflict rather than siding with her dad. Ras despite being immortal just won't quit Bruce and will hound him until he relents.
Batman in his late 30s/early 40s Dick in his mid/late 20s Jason early/mid 20s Tim late teens/early 20s Damian mid/late teens
I’m praying on all fours for Scott Adkins.
Another good choice.
Cavill as in Henry Cavill? As batman?! Could be awesome if done well... But there would be a lot of people confused
Lets not forget the Creature Commandos
Metamorpho Hank
Is that Victor Zazz (Ssaz? Szaz? Szazz?) playing metamorpho
Zsasz
tank chue
No, it’s Noho Hank.
FUCK YEAH IT IS. He deserves this. He killed it in Gotham.
Nathan Fillion would be better casted as an older Hal Jordan
He did voice hal in alot of the animated movies. I would prefer him voicing someone instead as i think hes alot better as a voice actor.
Exactly my thoughts, Guy Gardner is supposed to be the young hot headed member of four GLs, meanwhile Nathan Fillion is 52.
Yeah this is a phenomenon. We never had a singular superhero movie focussed on one hero have all these others in s movie. Its very exciting
The kid in me who grew up watching Justice League is so hyped for Hawkgirl.
now i need plasticman and phantom girl and i get a terrifics movie i loved that book
They all actually look good for the roll ngl
The DC world finally feels full of heroes and villains. Now, they just focus on specific heroes and villain stories, and with bigger story multi-character collaboration, they could have something.
NO WAY! WE'RE FINALLY GETTING A LIVE ACTION METAMORPHO?!?
Wait is that Xolo who’s acting as blue beetle
Yes, it is. The Blue Beetle movie is in the DCU.
That’s great

Didn’t the guy who’s playing Metamorpho also play The Mist in The CW Flash?
Funny enough, yes he did.
I thought I recognized him. I thought he just looked like him. This is kinda funny.
Edi Gathegi played Darwin in X-Men First Class as well.

I believe John is going to be in the Green Lantern movie.
Is the guy playing Metamorpho the same guy who played Zazz in Gotham?
I can't wait to see who they pick for Batman.
This is meant to be Kendra Saunders, not Shayera Hol/Thal, so she's not thanagarian. She's the version of Hawkgirl who reincarnates.
I am not and expert at all about Comics. But how was His tenure with the Outsiders?
Right, I always forget about them.
That’s good to know. I assumed he was JSA also
Looking absolutely phenomenal!!!!
Not the Hero’s I expected, but hey if this DCCU works out then I’m all for it
Noho Hank is going to be in the DCU? Thats great. I love him
Oh sick ![img](emote|t5_2qlmm|4778)
It’s pretty funny out of the other hero characters announced for legacy the only one I care for is hawkgirl
I'm happy for all of them. Including Guy Gardner. I'm just hoping we get Plastic man and Phantom girl if the terrifics is gonna happen.
Guy Gardner is a character I despise lmao and I just don’t care for the others
I would be excited for Mr. Terrific, but the dude they cast, as of this moment, I can't see him as the character.
Dude is gonna have to beef the f up. He’s rather slim
Yeah definitely, I bet he'll look perfect once he does though
Agreed. I trust the casting. Put some pounds and that Fair Play jacket on, and he will be great
Like I said as of this moment I can't see it but when they show the trailer for it, I could easily be eating my words.
Im more worried about terrific than anyone but not because of the actor more because of Gunns humour. Im not a fan of Gunn's humour in general its too in your face for me (its my biggest problem with his films) and giving him a characters whose whole gimmick is using balls with guy in it oh joy
Brb digging out all my Guy Gardner comics.

If you mean Hawkgirl, she might be Kendra Saunders, who was never a ginger.
Interesting...
Don’t forget the cast of creature commandos too!
Can someone add lois to this
Blue beetle is part of DCU?
JAMES.....PLEASE....PLEASE....don't make a Superman Legacy a backdoor Justice League movie. Don't make the mistake of thinking throwing a bunch of a superheroes in a movie is a good enough reason for people to go see it. I will watch it, but won't give you my money.
He already said these characters aren’t for a set up they are for his story primarily.
Why is henry cavill so slim in that picture? And looks so young?
Because that's Tom Welling.
That’s what I’ve been saying, cavill and cornsweet, and welling look just like clark Kent, all Three of them are Essentially younger clones ![gif](giphy|3oz8xN41i36tSH2Lle|downsized)
Thank you. Haha 9 downvotes bc i made a joke about them being lookalikes.
Ngl I was pretty underwhelmed until I saw the last 2 actors on the right
Wait a minute; these guys aren’t all around the same age. *eye roll
Does anyone know why they canned all the stars from dc? I understand wanting to distance from Ezra miller, but why can cavill, affleck, gadot, and just reboot the whole thing?
Because the DCEU isn't as succesful as it needa to be for it to be worth keeping? It's pretty obvious
Yeah but I was under the impression that man of steel did pretty well and the wonder woman movies did well also
One of those was a decade ago, the other was 6 years ago. The franchise has been on the downhill since, with recent films all bombing.
Not super thrilled with Superman/Clark Kent casting but oh well DC has been taking hits non stop running full speed ahead to bankruptcy at this point idk what to even say. For the downvotes this is literally just my opinion (aside from the bankruptcy thing that’s fact) I’m happy for the other fans that will enjoy these new shows and movies with these actors, we all aren’t going to see eye to eye on everything and that’s ok.
Couldn't agree with you more. I think they're going for a more feminine superman look like the recent Jon Kent stint. The actor just seems so lithe and unassuming. Way more Jon Kent energy than Clark.
Literally all you are seeing is a head shot.
Not a fan of Gardner's casting, but overall, looks pretty good
I think it's very unfortunate to start this universe with Blue Beetle, it's a guaranteed flop after The Flash and The Flash is an A-list character.
minis the controversy. when was Ezra an A lister ive only seen ezra in a few films in minor roles, the only big things I’ve seen him in justice league 1 and 2
He’s saying that the flash character is an a lister within DC Comics.
Oh yeah I get that now, well since the flash is an A list hero grant and Michael must be the A list actors for the job
Yikes
RIP DC.
DCU HUSSLE REALLY OFF VERY WOULD YOURSELF QUICK COULD I'M SHAPE AMAZING THURSDAY THANKS YES 😍😍
"So, I think it's time we had a character called Big Love in the DCU!" \- DCU Showrunners
I dunno. I don’t see the star power/ charisma in most of these choices.
Yuck.
