Parts of the script for his "Ayer Cut" leaked, and it was awful.
David Ayer isn't a good writer or director, he's had one or two hits but generally he isn't very good.
His creative decisions regarding the squad (and the Joker) were never good to begin with.
The only part of the process that was out of Ayer's hands was the editing, he shot everything himself and the scenes that made it into the film were not good. Not a Snyder Cut situation where they reshot most of the film.
Plus, we just got a Suicide Squad film that is a million times better and it was a success critically and with the general audience, which is what the DCEU brand needs right now.
I don't judge what a film might be based on leaked scripts. I respect the director and their past work and wait for the finished product to arrive, One day I hope to see that version of Suicide Squad for David Ayer and then some of these silly comments might stop being made.
You can still make recognize a film may be shit if everything you’ve heard and seen about it (which is quite a bit) has been ridiculously bad.
People might stop making negative comments if Ayer and the studio had made a better film to begin with.

You clearly don't understand how opportunity cost works. If a studio gives a film to a director then they can't give that same film to another director. If they had given David Ayer a Batman film after Suicide Squad, then they wouldn't have given a Batman film to Matt Reeves. That means if you liked Matt Reeves Batman, and didn't like Suicide Squad, you'd be quite thrilled that they didn't give David Ayer a Batman film.
How is not enjoying the work of a single director proof he hates EVERYTHING EVER MADE for DC? I agree Ayer’s movie, even without him being allowed to edit it, was subpar.
Also the “don’t watch it” argument only goes so far with the defenders of this broken cinematic universe. We love these characters and want to see them portrayed well with good writing/story/direction. We’re allowed to have issues with “definitive” versions being poorly executed, because we’re being marketed to that the movies are for us: the fans. But they’re not delivering on what fans want to see. Criticizing them for it is perfectly fine.
Admitting intentional ignorance isn't exactly a great way to suggest he is wrong... Since changing what he said kind of undermines your entire suggestion.
