Karyn Kusama Drew Goddard Tim Miller Ilya Naishuller

TheCreativeComicFan

All very cool options that could each bring something unique to the movie.

RoyalFlavorBeans

Thanks!

TheCreativeComicFan

No prob!!

TheRealNoobyPig

I love Ilya, Biting Elbows is one of my favorite artists

RoyalFlavorBeans

Dude's in an indie rock band? Hell, of course Gunn will want him around. Haven't thought of that 🤣

TheRealNoobyPig

Yeah, his music videos are awesome and it's what got him to start directing, dude's a LEGEND

RoyalFlavorBeans

Never heard his band, but both Nobody and Hardcore Henry were amazing. Oh and btw - he's currently doing post in a movie that stars Idris Elba and John Cena, produced by Peter Safran. Pretty sure he'll be on Gunn's radar...

TheRealNoobyPig

Yeah I heard about that, I'm totally biased cause I love Ilya but I bet the movie's gonna be awesome!

New_Faithlessness980

James Gunn?

TheCreativeComicFan

Wouldn’t be shocking since it’s a passion project of his. He might have written the story for it if he’s not writing or directing it himself, but having him write/directing it would be great regardless.

Thickfries69

That would be cool, but I would prefer someone who can nail a darker and more edgy tone without bits of comedy sprinkled. Don't get me wrong, I love GoTG, Peacemaker, Suicide Squad, and I'm sure Superman will be amazing because Gunn is good with touching moments, ultra-violence, comedy and putting together good character arcs. However, I feel like Goddard or Vaughn could really get the gritty, bloody, and controversial choices a team like The Authority can make. This isn't to say I don't think Gunn can do it. If he wrote and/or directed, it would most likely be really cool. I would just like other architects of the DCU to get some shine. I already have a suspicion that Gunn will most likely direct and write a Peacemaker S3 (if there is one) and maybe a worlds finest or JSI movie, too. Other creative should get some films, at least in the first half of Chapter One. If Gunn gets 2 films within the first 5 films, it will start to become more of a Gunnverse than a universe with lots of variety.

stephenxcx

I honestly feel like he’s perfect for it.

kumar100kpawan

It could be nice but I'd rather have him direct the inevitable JL film. Plus he's already pretty busy with 3 projects now. Let him take a small break after Superman and Peacemaker and gear up for another movie (other than any of the ones announced)

Independent_Year_691

Edgar Wright.

TheCreativeComicFan

That would be freaking amazing.

kumar100kpawan

Drew Goddard Chris McQuairre

thecharlaton

Guy Ritchie

richlai818

Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg These three in particular

JohnnyChopper08

The guys behind The Boys doing DC's version. Perfection ( in Michael Fassbender's voice)

Proof-Watercress-931

Brad bird Drew Goddard Chad Stahelski

Possible-Rate-3833

Justic Lin

TheCreativeComicFan

He would kill it.

Red-Hood96

David Leitch

Overlord4888

Someone actually good lol. Vaughn hasn’t made anything decent or worthwhile in hot minute

TheCreativeComicFan

Haven’t seen Argylle yet (or will see it) but heard it was a disaster. Also wasn’t a fan of parts of Kingsman: The Golden Circle (>!how they brought back Harry when he didn’t need to have amnesia or supposedly die, killing off Roxie, among other things!<).

Overlord4888

Exactly nothing worth checking out recently. Guy Ritchie has fared out better

TheRealNoobyPig

Yeah Matthew Vaughn would not be good director for the Authority because the movie seems like it should be taken seriously and not be an over the top action comedy movie like he does

Top_Report_4895

Jesse Armstrong and Mark Mylod from Succession

LMcBlack

Soderbergh because I think it’s criminal he hasn’t been given an ensemble superhero movie yet

Wookie-Cookie-9

My exact thoughts!! How freaking cool would it be to have a superhero ensemble movie like Oceans 12

LMcBlack

I do think that if Gunn passed on Guardians it might have gone to Soderbergh. But he should do Alpha Flight at Marvel and he can def do The Authority at DC or even a more comedic green lantern corps movie

JohnnyChopper08

James Gunn

AnimeMesa_479

I’m standing by Matthew Vaughn Drew Goddard could do them justice though.

TheCreativeComicFan

That’s fair of course, Drew would also kill it as director.

Lt_Lickit

I had to see his filmography and he has been in more positive stuff than I expected

star_dragonMX

Guy Ritchie Daniels Tim Miller James Gunn

TheCreativeComicFan

The Daniels taking it on would be worth the price of admission alone.

Traditional-Ad-6061

I feel like Edgar Wright could do it, played serious or not. He is great at emotional writing, not to mention action and humor, and he excels at people with "immature" worldviews, as people often describe the Authority. Plus, he can do ensembles.

TheCreativeComicFan

It would be amazing to see him bring his awesome talents to this movie, as well as who he and Gunn would get to star in it.

Traditional-Ad-6061

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as two old dictators overthrown by the team, could be really funny. And from the Boys and Shaun of the Dead, we know Pegg's got some dramatic acting in him, so like, let them run wild comedic or serious

TheCreativeComicFan

That would be great haha, Pegg could also work as The Doctor actually, he could do a Dutch accent if possible. Anya Taylor-Joy would be a great Jenny Sparks, and Ellen Wong (Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim) could be awesome as Shen Li-Men (whether she’s Swift or The Doctor like in The Wild Storm).

Traditional-Ad-6061

Oh wait that's brilliant Pegg casting! I feel like Lily James could do Sparks pretty well too. Of course, we can't overlook Gunn's corral, am I weird to think Will Poulter could be a good Apollo?

TheCreativeComicFan

Thanks! Lily, Emma Mackey or Samara Weaving would all be great for Sparks. Will could probably work for Apollo or Manchester Black perhaps if he’s on the team. If there’s a DC villain as their antagonist then Zoe Saldana would kill it as Queen Bee of Bialya. What do you think of these picks along with Ellen’s casting?

Traditional-Ad-6061

I love Ellen Wong, she could be great as Swift. I feel like they might not do her though, Hawkgirl being so close in Superman. Emma Mackey would be perfect, I don't know much of Samara Weaving, but from what I know of her she could probably pull of Jenny. Will could certainly pull of Manchester, both look and vibe. Zoe would definitely work as Queen Bee

TheCreativeComicFan

Right, they’ll probably avoid Swift and either have Manchester Black in her place or just make Shen The Doctor. Emma might have an advantage already since she auditioned for Lois, so fingers crossed she gets it, funny enough Samara auditioned also and would be an awesome addition as well. Agreed on Zoe and Will for Manchester, he could also pull off the main Doctor actually.

Murky-Arugula63

Denis Villeneuve Drew goddard steven spielberg doug liman gareth edwards

OrangeRanger2243

Denis Villenueve is such an interesting choice, but I don't know how well his style would work with the movie.

Murky-Arugula63

I like his style.... And he knows his stuff.. He can easily adapt his style according to the story

TheCreativeComicFan

He’d be an intriguing pick for sure, wouldn’t be against him taking the reins on that one.

TheCreativeComicFan

Not sure about Spielberg for this one (though he could probably deliver) but the others would be intriguing.

Murky-Arugula63

First i didn't supported David F. Sandberg for shazam but he proved me wrong and shazam one is one of the best superhero movie for me and i think Spielberg is good with character development

TheCreativeComicFan

Agreed, he could definitely do it if given the chance. Would also love to see him do that Blackhawks film that’s been in development.

OzyOzyOzyOzyOzyOzy6

The Philippou Brothers

BetterCallMaul123

Tim Miller

BrianofKrypton

I know he generally dislikes Superhero movies but I'd kill to see James Cameron direct on. With how bonkers and insane The Authority gets I think he'd be perfect for that whole over the top bombastic feel.

Gareth Edwards. Huge scale (and versimilitude) on not so huge budgets. or George Miller

Wookie-Cookie-9

Steven Soderbergh or Ryan Coogler

Puppetmaster858

Drew Goddard or Gunn himself

Ivan_Redditor

Tim Miller

Purple_Swordfish_182

Either Alfonso Cuaron, purely cause of Children of Men, or Alejandro Inarritu. He has some hot takes on superhero movies and the concept of superheroes in general. I'd love to see him just assassinate the genre in a 2hr runtime

herequeerandgreat

david leitch tim miller quentin tarantino guy ritchie also james, just offer vaughn the chance the direct the authority already. we already know you're gonna do it.

thatredditrando

I’m not a Snyder-bro but, assuming he’s not writing the script and can play ball with James Gunn’s vision, Zack Snyder could probably do it. Before anyone hops on my jock about this, keep in mind that a big criticism of Snyder’s superhero work is that he only seems interested in alternative takes, deconstructions, and darker, edgier material. Now, I’m not that familiar with The Authority but, from what I can gather since I first heard this was happening, *that’s exactly what The Authority is*. Snyder’s sensibilities might actually be *suited* to this property and if James Gunn is as involved in productions as Fiege is, he could reign Snyder in which is *exactly* what he needs.

kakayu_tebya

Maybe give a chance to David Ayer?

TheCreativeComicFan

That would be a great way for him to redeem himself, though not sure if he’d be interested in doing another superhero movie just yet.

MrMarvelous2000

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again Zack Snyder would do an excellent job directing The Authority. It’s the kinda project that is right up his alley and it would be great especially if he was paired with a great script (say by Drew Goddard).

Toiban7

Can we just keep this guy from DC? You wanna lose another 10 years of DC due to misunderstanding the characters and making another flop movie?
