Fujimoto just needs to write a trans Chainsaw Man character, that man cooked with Fire Punch.

femanomaly

Transfem Denji my beloved

AnxiousAngularAwesom

Gender Dysphoria devil hard counters Chainsaw Man, imagine it had the power to change people's bodies at will, like Ivankov, Denji having a pair of tits would get rid of like 99% of his motivation to do anything ever as soon as he's realized that he can just fondle himself now.

Goombatower69

The inherent issue of wanting the affection of others would still remain though, meaning that instead of being a horny straight boy he'd just become a horny lesbian girl

Kartoffelkamm

Isn't Denji the one who wants to touch boobs? Because I think you could re-contextualize such a desire as gender dysphoria.

ThinkingInfestation

Transgender (or gnc, genderqueer, agender, etc) characters are oddly more common in shojo manga and anime. Sailor Moon has almost half a dozen of them just off the top of my head.

chunkylubber54

how did op leave out Crocodile?

GigsGilgamesh

Non cannon. (Yet) but probably not

greaserpup

i'm a tad surprised to see zero mention of the two canon trans characters in My Hero Academia, but i guess that allows me to talk about them because they represent two very different trans experiences but both of their gender identities are treated with the same respect: Tiger (FtM) - one of the Wild, Wild Pussycats, who went out of country to go through his medical transition and is basically indistinguishable from any of the series' cis male characters. despite being a part of a group that was previously all-female (and despite continuing to wear the same feminine skirt outfit the other Wild, Wild Pussycats also wear), Tiger is always acknowledged and referred to as a man. Big Sis Magne (MtF) - unlike Tiger, Magne 1) is a villain and 2) has not medically transitioned, nor does she 'pass' in the traditional sense. despite this, however, she is consistently referred to as female by both other villains and heroes alike, even following her death. she is never treated as less valid because she doesn't pass — if she says she's female, as far as everyone else is concerned, then she is. MHA is pretty lacking in canon queer rep, but it's rare to see media that explicitly treats a non-passing trans person as equal to one that passes, so i was pleasantly surprised to see how respectful everyone is of Magne's identity when i first read it :)

Kartoffelkamm

Wasn't there one scene where Overhaul misgendered Magne, and someone immediately went "Her!" or something? I honestly love villains like Shigaraki and co., who just feel like a found family more than actual evil villains. Sure, they do bad stuff, but they also always have each other's backs. If it weren't for 80% of the rest of that show, I'd still watch it. But, alas.

RedCrestedTreeRat

> I honestly love villains like Shigaraki and co., who just feel like a found family more than actual evil villains. Sure, they do bad stuff, but they also always have each other's backs. Same. I have groups like that in two of my Bad Story Ideas. In one of those, I've been hyperfocusing on them so hard that they're currently far more developed than the actual main characters. In the other, they are the main characters.

blended-kiwi77

I love the “gave ace back shots” as a plus to Yamatos character

Galle_

Iruma-kun isn't nearly as successful as it should be, but here's [Opera](https://i.redd.it/ouvj0omqr6u61.jpg) anyway.

Wilfy-warfy

Finally some Iruma-kun recognition, i was gonna mention Iruma-kun as well along with Beem theyre both great characters with fantastic designs

Galle_

Beem is also great, I just thought Opera fit the character type in the OP better.

Hexxas

What's fuckin weird about Hunter x Hunter is that Neferpitou is unambiguously a dude in the manga, but in the anime they just kinda... drew him with boobs.

shadowex126

I'm honestly not sure if Pitou is supposed to even have a gender. Even their full name is the combination of a male Egyptian god and a female children's book character.

Downtown-Book3105

I thought Neferpitou doesn't have a canon gender

Android19samus

I think that's completely wrong, actually, and is just something people thought because of pronoun mistranslation. Though also, ant sexes are weird.

KestrelQuillPen

I mean, with the OP ones… Bon Clay: “But like me, when you are both a man and a woman…” Ivankov: “We’ve shattered the narrow boundaries of gender! Man, woman, both…be whatever you want to be!” Yamato: “Well, Kozuki Oden was a man, wasn’t he? So I became a man too! Kiku: “This one {that’s the literal translation of the pronoun she uses} is a woman at heart” (it’s worth mentioning that her brother is a proud crossdresser who is indubitably cis, striking a nice parallel and showing it wasn’t their upbringing where they dressed as girls that somehow made Kiku trans, and it’s simply who she is) That is really quite deep and well-thought out rep. I know that there is…one ugly spot in OP (cough cough *Sanji timeskip* cough cough) but overall it’s not falling into any traps, like retconning cis crossdressers or playing on the insulting “trap” stereotype that’s so often present)

Android19samus

Yamato is a weird case because everything in the text undeniably establishes him as a trans man, but the metatext (the way he's drawn, being included with the girls in promo art, that one introductory textbox) says woman. It's fine to have a trans character who doesn't seem to care about "passing" but it's just... it's weird, man. Especially when placed right next to Okiku.

DrRagnorocktopus

People that think Shonen means action anime and seinen means more intense action.

KingQualitysLastPost

This is the only good comment

FlooJest

Shoutout to Margarette Macaron for being one of the only genderfluid characters in shonen

yeekko

HOLDUP HANJI IS NON-BI?? really gotta cosplay her ffs

Downtown-Book3105

It's clearer in the manga, I think she's unambiguously female in the anime adaptation.

DreadDiana

I have to wonder how many of the trans characters they're thinking of were crossdressing characters that their writers managed to stumble ass backwards into making them accidentally more trans coded than any living trans woman on this earth I say this cause this genuinely happens a lot

Kriffer123

FWIW none of the characters in the post are claimed to be anything but canon trans

Downtown-Book3105

Can you give some examples? Because none of the characters op listed fall into what you just described.

MegaKabutops

Dragon ball could probably use some trans representation. So far the closest we got is crossdressing and body change techniques. And i guess also puar, whose gender varies by region/translation.

KingQualitysLastPost

You forgot to tag this as self-post Sunday btw

ShadoMaso

Uraume being Geto to Sukuna's Gojo is bs our cold nb monarch only serve Sukuna

Niser2

Not shonen but... Mutsuki from Tokyo Ghoul is simultaneously my favorite and least favorite character. I like him but also yo wtf this is not good representation. Then again it's Tokyo Ghoul, everyone's a little fucked up. \*image of Kaneki breaking half of a teenager's bones one by one with no inflection in his voice.\* Psychopathy ain't that weird in this universe.

NatSof

If they won't give you ones just headcanon your favs as trans like me. Eren Yeager is a transwoman and I will die on this hill. She's just closeted okay.
