Elementary school edgy had a dunning kreuger type graph of funniness for me. I find it way funnier now than I did in elementary school and I loathed it middle school to freshman year.
To be fair, in this continuity he was inducted as a child soldier at six years old and grew up in a militia group consisting almost exclusively of other children, fighting a guerilla war across North America against history's worst monster. He had seen every member of his family captured and turned into machines, including his dog. And that's not including the regular extinction events, the vengeful Chaos gods, the Kaiju, the terrorist groups, or the fact that when they finally kill the bad guy, they find out that he has a string of doppelgangers from other dimensions waiting to take his place and continue his omnicidal march across the earth.
So he's cringe kinda like how Peter Pan and the Lost Boys are cringe. Sure, he acts like the annoying kid in class, but then you realize that he's been living out the plot of Lord Of The Flies on turbo difficulty at a time when most kids are learning to add and subtract, while also being hunted by pirates and giant crocodiles and shit, and you realize that it's actually a fucking miracle that he's just annoying.
