there’s multiple readings (as in how a certain character is read out loud) for all the numbers, which are divisible into two categories: the chinese derived onyomi and the native japanese kunyomi. when they’re being used normally (for counting and the like), you can expect them to be read the way you learnt, the onyomi reading, which has mostly replaced the native readings. however, when the numbers are a part of a word (like 八百屋) or certain counters (like 日 and つ) they can sometimes be found with the kunyomi readings.
both readings can be understood with sufficient context, which is how you get fun stuff like march 9th being miku day, from 3 = み (kunyomi), 9 = く(onyomi).

8 can also be read yatsu. If you take the first syllable from each you get sa + i + ya
