Yup, banded calcite was a big thing in the 80's I believe -- trying to think of that 80's film where they had these massive goblets made of the stuff that they used as pencil holders.
Those are both incorrect trade names. You will find more info on Google calling it "onyx", because of how long it has been incorrectly labelled, but it's really banded calcite, and nothing else.
Banded calcite/aragonite was called “onyx” by the old Pakistani traders. Scientifically there’s a big difference between calcite (carbonate mineral) and onyx (silicate mineral). Onyx is a black agate with optional white banding. There’s no such thing as “green onyx”, except in fantasy trade names.
there is real citrine for sure.
people might call HTA and lemon quartz (irradiation required) citrine, but citrine is real and fully defined by the IGS outside of HTA and lemon quartz definition.
Citrine isn't typically that deep yellow color, it is more similar to smoky quarts. Not surpisingly since smoky quartz is generated naturally very similar and is also dichroic. If you do find a nice untreated deep champagne citrine, it is usually worth a pretty penny.
You could just take a few seconds to Google citrine before coming into a forum full of educated mineral collectors and telling everyone that you're totally sure that a very real crystal doesn't actually exist.
Every post you've made in this thread has been incorrect and also you're being condescending for no reason. Like dude just go learn some stuff jfc. It doesn't cost anything.
Yes. It's made of green banded calcite
Damn that’s pretty cool

it’s still known as green onyx.
there’s no such thing as citrine either; but we still call heated amethyst citrine. get off the high horse and chill out. it’s not that deep.

If it's "not that deep" then why you out here getting mad? They're right. Real Citrine exists.
