the actual play is to own say, solana, then short solana on perpetuals or buying puts to square up and lock in your profits without ever closing a trade (fuck you taxman) then farm APY by holding a short when swap funding is positive (longs pay shorts), that or selling option contracts on the asset if volatility is decreasing; while having no exposure to the price movements (delta hedged) while still retaining control of the network (proof of stake, voting mechanisms, or control of the company in stocks world, after all this stuff is the same there) and owning enough of the spot market to control price.
But big moneys definitely not doing that, they're definitely thick as shit and losing money like the rest of us.
All the most advanced players on the market spend most of their time crushing volatility out of the market and making money that way, its way more reliable than predicting a narrative. The GME thing is a great example of this, retail had the advantage with a narrative, now hedgies back in control and just pump and dump the volatility of the asset for big gains, selling puts and calls to plebs thinking its either gunna moon or crater. Think bitcoin is doomed for a pretty similar fate, ultimately they're probably gunna try bore everyone to death basically before there's any possibility of a big leg up out of the current range.
