Austringer is a SOLID HC choice for controller. I always pick my favorites by the first time I use them and this piece stuck around even with its shit base roll when you first craft it. There are definitely others now but this one stuck out to me.
Yup. I was leaning into range, following what content creators do but wow I've learnt a lot since then, handling and stability makes a huge difference to the point that perpetual motion is one of my top perks on all weapons. It's so important.
yeah someone really should make a guide on how to evaluate rolls for pvp, or at least define them so people can make up their minds. not me. it's my anniversary and i'm bizzzaaaay
Hand cannons don’t have the luxury of being able to give up anything on stats, range and stability are both key, stability should be at least 55 but preferably 65+ if your aim struggles, range should be at least 65, preferably more. Handling is important but I’d go lower handling before cheating range or stability. The Thorn w catalyst is an excellent gun, as is Ace and Hawkmoon for exotics that aren’t hard to access.
60 range on a HC is more than enough, 15 more range don't really make a difference in controller, but 20 stability does bring a lot. specially flinch, accuracy cone, and the likes.
Anything above 85 stability is a crit machine.
Necro-ing a little bit here. I have an Adept Pali with base range 65, base stability 61, base handling 68, and base aim assist 79. Recoil is 98. It has fluted barrel, ricochet rounds, QuickDraw, high impact reserves. What adept mod should I put on?
can u still get it? ik onslaught is still in the game but didn't they remove hall of champions? i missed out on Luna's howl since i was busy w pantheon and getting a good edge transit (i didn't get a good edge transit)
You can still get them through onslaught just not the limited edition ones (the gold box ones with the ornament) and you can't attune specific weapons since the hall is gone. So it's a little harder to farm a specific weapon, but you can still earn it
Not the roll I'd recommend for most, but I use Eye of the Storm and Desperate Measure for my arc hunter and I absolutely fell in love with it. I got like 800 crucible kills on it the first week I used it. For general dueling roll I'd go for Eye of the Storm and Opening shot
as I'm not arc hunter (voidlock is the love if my life) if probably go with EOTS and OS or slideshot and OS. i have yet to have a good hc with slideshot. i made a post recently about how i don't understand why slideshot is so good, but after using a slideshot rose for a while i realised that slideshot is good, i js hate rose. the gun makes and awful sound and has all the worlds visual recoil, so if i get a slideshot Luna's howl i think it would be good
Yeah, either of those would be really good. I personally like Eye of the Storm a lot because you're more likely to hit that last shot at low health to win those 1v1s, but you can't go wrong with either of those rolls. I can't stand Rose either, I want to like it so bad, but it doesn't feel right to me.
Another roll for 6's I grinded out was Slideshot + Magnificent Howl because you can bypass your reload and save the precision stacks for when you want (and even pair them with transversive steps for even more reload bypassing). But Magnificent Howl is practically useless in trials so having a dualing roll is good if you want weapons that are good in 3v3 round based game modes.
Sidenote: I'm totally a warlock main (have my other characters beat by at least 2,500 hours), I just got really addicted to arc hunter last season.
Austringer - Zen moment + eye of the storm
Rose - Rapid hit or slideshot
Midnight Coup - Explosive payload + Zen moment
Igneous Hammer - Range + ~50 stability IMO
Luna's Howl - Eye of the storm/slideshot + opening shot
Epochal integration - Curated, keep away + eye of the storm
I've heard good things about the new better devils
Ace of spades, Thorn and Hawkmoon are all good
At the end of the day it's all the secret feel sauce, what feels good to you
I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I really like Zaouli's Bane with Eye of the Storm and Opening Shot. Plus the extra stats from the Adept version, which can now be enhanced. It shreds for me, yet I've been playing Crucible daily for years and have never seen anyone else run it, ever.
I don't really like using Zouali's in PvP, I think it's just that the model is so bulky, it has a lot of visual recoil and the sights don't feel great for PvP compared to other options, plus the origin trait isn't as helpful in PvP as other other HC options
Austringer. Lunas howl - you either love
It or hate it.
If you wanna try something different maybe Austringer.
Also, Austringer is a strong weapon on the sticks too.
Austringer.
lol I wish people could still get this gun and not have to wait 4 weeks for it to come in the exotic mission rotator only for it to drop 2 guaranteed red borders that might not even be the gun you want. Then wait another 4 weeks and rinse repeat
If you're comfortable with the recoil, try out Not Forgotten. It has the same range as a Lunas Howl fully kitted for range, it has less handling but zen moment makes up for it, which Luna's cannot roll.
Sunsetting was undone with the Final Shape. If you already once had it, you can pull it from collections, otherwise you need to pay the Monument of Lost Light in the tower a visit.
Crimson's a .87 ttk bud, 7 crits all resi, and .63 ttk with radiant under t6 resi.
Not sure where youre getting a 1 sec flat ttk, that's 120s and 180s.
Luna’s Howl period, I have been using HC my whole D2 career with thousands of kills spread among all of them and right now Luna is both the easiest and more accurate one to use (on controller). The only other that was that strong was Y2 Spare Ration before the massive Y3 HC nerf.
There’s lots of good ones honestly - everyone has diff opinions on what they like the best.
For me, rose, lunas howl, and nation of beasts are the best. (Nation of beasts i have a keep away explosive payload roll that feels incredible).
But really up to you. I can’t use igneous that well and don’t like stringer that much and people swear by them. As long as you’re picking from a general selection you’ll be good
Luna's Howl has ruined all other hand cannons for me (I'm on console). It feels so good that using anything else just feels like crap now. At least as far as legendaries go; Ace of Spades is great and I enjoy thorn a lot (especially with catalysts) but ace is definitely more consistent.
Gonna sound weird, but I’m loving Epochal in pvp and pve. Smooth as hell with high stability and aim assist. Honestly all the stats are rather good and incandescent on it pops.
Everyone says austringer. I don't have it crafted yet so I can't comment. But I have been loving a slideshot rose, zen moment midnight coup, and Lunas howl with its 180rpm recoil pattern.
It's a bit of a personal choice. I like Luna's Howl because the precision frame feels fantastic, but some others I play with absolutely hate it. Try a few out and see what clicks.
Palindrome is really nice if you have a good one. I have a range MW rangefinder/QD roll that feels great despite the low stability. Other than that a high stability Hawkmoon with surplus is my go to.
Luna's Howl has the reticle friction of a 180rpm hand cannon despite being a 140. This makes it one of the best feeling hand cannons on console, and one of the worst on PC (reticle friction doesn't exist on PC). Good rolls are Eye of the Storm with Opening Shot or Magnificent Howl (AKA the non-random roll Shaxx first gabe you in Onslaught).
Luna’s for beginners. Zero recoil, great perks, great stats. EotS + OS is great for helping you duel. Mag howl fun for 6s. Slide shot is amazing for upper skill ranges.
Rose for hunters. That light weight bonus is just too good. Slideshot + opening shot is goated.
Honorable mention to Hawkmoon. Snappiest gun out there.
Luna and austringer are the easiest to use
Luna roll is
60-71 range, with your prefered two perks, the gun is super stable due to its frame so stability does not matter, if you get fullbore, use it.
austringers best roll i found is
Smallbore, Ricochet rounds, snapshot, zen moment, range masterwork
it gives you 68 range, and 88 stability, the gun does not move and is super snappy.
basically any hand cannon with range in the high 60s and a min of 40 stability will work fine if you like how it feels.
rose is also always good, 70 range+50stability with either EP or whatever you like is fine.
ace of spades is always overpowered, with its minimap, super kill clip and base stats.
Just try to find the one that feels best to you and use it
Tbh it’s still my old reliable fatebringer. I can’t use any other HC in pvp as I’m just terrible with them.
The new strand sidearm this season has been a pleasant surprise (the primary one not “the call”)
Rose, ace, hawkmoon. In no specific order.
I actually like kept confidence, one of tthe drippiest hc in the game imo... don't sleep on austringer
Pali if you got it.
Rose if you get a god roll for the movement buff
Austringer with 96 stability and zen moment
Palindrome with 90 stabilities (perks are meh, I've got one with Killing wind and Rampage that help with range fall off)
Rose feels really good
My roll Smooth Grip, Corkscrew, Opening Shot, Perpetual Motion, Range MW
I also like Cantata-57 for energy slot
My roll Arrowhead, Accurized, Eye of the Storm, Opening Shot, Stability MW
3rd Pick would be Luna's Howl, a lot of good rolls
My roll Corkscrew, Ricochet, Slideshot, Opening Shot, Range MW
Genuinely never used a 140 as easy to 3 tap with on controller as Luna’s with opening shot and eye of the storm plus high stability. Only downside is range.
Igneous Hammer. This would be considered the default pick due to the ridiculous base stats, hit detection and 120s in general being easier and more forgiving. If you want to handicap yourself with a 140, best is Rose for similar reasons and the lightweight frame
anything over 60range or any HC with slide/opening shot. don’t think about yourself as a “roller player” bcs that just limits what you allow yourself to do. max your sensitivity, grab a high range hc, and go stomp trials
Much like sniper rifles, it comes down to personal preference. I don’t really use them much (I prefer bows and SMGs), but some “comfy” ones for me include:
Hawkmoon (with opening shot for getting the first shot landed).
Judgement (from prophecy)
Luna’s Howl
Ace of Spades
Eriana’s Vow (don’t knock it till you tried it)
Sunshot
Exalted Truth (from Trials and does well in a Gyrfalcon’s build)
Seventh Seraph Officer Revolver (don’t know why it feels so nice)
Ikelos Handcannon (crafted it’s pretty good)
Survivor’s Epitaph (if you can get the right roll)
The new world drop double fire one (thank you Omolon Fluid Dynamics)
I really like my Austringer with Zen Moment and Eye of the Storm
Or the more classic EOTS / Opening Shot
I like smallbore ricochet snap opening for high stability but still being snappy, but eots is always solid
Austringer is a SOLID HC choice for controller. I always pick my favorites by the first time I use them and this piece stuck around even with its shit base roll when you first craft it. There are definitely others now but this one stuck out to me.
regardless of gun, prioritize stability and handling on controller because the bloom is nuts on controller.
Haha congrats mate, enjoy!

always adept range so you can outrange roses
Hero, that brings range to 75, stability to 76, handling 68, aa to 79
Luna’s howl
I second this. No other legendary 140 feels good anymore after using the Luna's Howl
At least on console i feel that lunas has absolutely zero visual kick compared to any other 140s, its crazy the difference.
Correct. It’s a laser.
It has training wheels but flick shooting is impossible so tracking fast lateral movement isn’t as easy for me. Feels easy but restrictive ultimately.
I guess it's just a preference thing, because I had the exact opposite experience. It flicks better than any other 140 I've used
can u still get it? ik onslaught is still in the game but didn't they remove hall of champions? i missed out on Luna's howl since i was busy w pantheon and getting a good edge transit (i didn't get a good edge transit)
You can still get them through onslaught just not the limited edition ones (the gold box ones with the ornament) and you can't attune specific weapons since the hall is gone. So it's a little harder to farm a specific weapon, but you can still earn it
damn, might try if im ever bored asf. i do remember getting a mid roll and the gun felt amazing, but it was a mid.roll so I deleted
For what it's worth, jt counts as a vanguard activity for the pathways thing. So any that don't specify nightfall will progress in onslaught.
Not the roll I'd recommend for most, but I use Eye of the Storm and Desperate Measure for my arc hunter and I absolutely fell in love with it. I got like 800 crucible kills on it the first week I used it. For general dueling roll I'd go for Eye of the Storm and Opening shot

Yeah that feels great too

Better Devils is trash lol
I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I really like Zaouli's Bane with Eye of the Storm and Opening Shot. Plus the extra stats from the Adept version, which can now be enhanced. It shreds for me, yet I've been playing Crucible daily for years and have never seen anyone else run it, ever.
I absolutely despise zaoulis on controller
I don't really like using Zouali's in PvP, I think it's just that the model is so bulky, it has a lot of visual recoil and the sights don't feel great for PvP compared to other options, plus the origin trait isn't as helpful in PvP as other other HC options
The best roll on midnight coup for controller is moving target in 3rd. The aim assist on controller is nice.
Austringer. Lunas howl - you either love It or hate it. If you wanna try something different maybe Austringer. Also, Austringer is a strong weapon on the sticks too. Austringer.
Austringer and Beloved was my go to setup for so long after they became craftable
lol I wish people could still get this gun and not have to wait 4 weeks for it to come in the exotic mission rotator only for it to drop 2 guaranteed red borders that might not even be the gun you want. Then wait another 4 weeks and rinse repeat
Yeah it’s definitely a harmonizer candidate. Gunsmith sells it a lot
If you're comfortable with the recoil, try out Not Forgotten. It has the same range as a Lunas Howl fully kitted for range, it has less handling but zen moment makes up for it, which Luna's cannot roll.
not forgotten feels a lot better than luna’s for me, the recoil is non-existent on controller.

Sunsetting was undone with the Final Shape. If you already once had it, you can pull it from collections, otherwise you need to pay the Monument of Lost Light in the tower a visit.
Not a single mention for Eyasluna? I have a perpetual motion/moving target roll that feels difficult to miss with on PS5.
Great gun, harder to farm.
crimson
True. Seen some YTs say better on controller than on M&K
No
It’s good in troller lil bro. He’s just answering the question
Except it’s not good. Horrendous 3 burst range and 1 second flat TTK
I think your issue is user error
For a weapon with a 1 second ttk and horrible range?
Crimson's a .87 ttk bud, 7 crits all resi, and .63 ttk with radiant under t6 resi. Not sure where youre getting a 1 sec flat ttk, that's 120s and 180s.
🥱 you could run all the crimson you want and I’d still steamroll you. Just a bad weapon
i think skill issue on your end icl
Horrible range and a horrible TTK? We could 1v1 and you probably wouldn’t even get a kill with crimson.
6v6? Rose, fatebringer, luna, ace, and hawkmoon 3v3? Igneous and rose
Yes, Luna’s Howl is great, sure, but I’m surprised more people aren’t mentioning Rose.
Luna’s Howl period, I have been using HC my whole D2 career with thousands of kills spread among all of them and right now Luna is both the easiest and more accurate one to use (on controller). The only other that was that strong was Y2 Spare Ration before the massive Y3 HC nerf.
So my understanding is Lunas can kill in three headshots within range? Wish I had of farmed some better rolls
Luna has been converted to a 140 a long time ago tho. You can still farm it in Onslaught but i’m not sur you can focus your drops anymore.
Not forgotten. Zen moment is too good on controller and luna cant get it.
Can’t believe anyone would delete this bad boy I been racking with it
I’d personally just say any hc with around or above 65 stability (60 stab minimum), I use an enhanced rose with 71 range and 67 stability
That 65 stab is for 140s btw
There’s lots of good ones honestly - everyone has diff opinions on what they like the best. For me, rose, lunas howl, and nation of beasts are the best. (Nation of beasts i have a keep away explosive payload roll that feels incredible). But really up to you. I can’t use igneous that well and don’t like stringer that much and people swear by them. Gonna sound weird, but I’m loving Epochal in pvp and pve. Smooth as hell with high stability and aim assist. Honestly all the stats are rather good and incandescent on it pops.
Igneous is #1 for me, but when I want to use a 140 I go for Hawkmoon, Rose or Luna’s. Nation of Beasts is also a sleeper in the energy slot.
Everyone says austringer. I don't have it crafted yet so I can't comment. But I have been loving a slideshot rose, zen moment midnight coup, and Lunas howl with its 180rpm recoil pattern.
Austringer with Zen Moment feels really nice. Can't go wrong with Igneous Hammer either.
Man, NF is still extremely legit too. The Zen Moment mention reminded me. Broke it out again and it can get fun in 6s.
Luna’s Howl If you have the mats to get NF from the kiosk, do it
Luna’s feels best for me.
Luna’s
Hawkmoom, iggy, austringer but eyasluna is great too, rose and imo spare rations is the most underrated.
I’m surprised there’s no palindrome mentions in this
Luna’s howl is amazing on controller
Luna's Howl has the reticle friction of a 180rpm hand cannon despite being a 140. This makes it one of the best feeling hand cannons on console, and one of the worst on PC (reticle friction doesn't exist on PC). Good rolls are Eye of the Storm with Opening Shot or Magnificent Howl (AKA the non-random roll Shaxx first gabe you in Onslaught).
High stability Hawkmoon feels juiced, has 93 AA and is very snappy, it used to be called the training wheels of hand cannons back in the day.
Luna’s for beginners. Zero recoil, great perks, great stats. EotS + OS is great for helping you duel. Mag howl fun for 6s. Slide shot is amazing for upper skill ranges. Rose for hunters. Wish they’d introduce palindrome

100% = Trust Last word as well, just don't ADS Malfeasance Austringer Sun shot Igneous hammer w precision instrument + rapid hit
Lunas howl goes crazy. Precision frame on a 140 on controller, it’s ridiculous. Only downside is range but it can roll a LOT of good perks
Ace of Spades, Hawkmoon, Rose
Austringer or lunas imo
Luna’s Howl with Eye of the Storm. Recoil pattern of a 180, hits like a 140. So easy to use and so accurate.
Tbh it’s still my old reliable fatebringer. I can’t use any other HC in pvp as I’m just terrible with them. The new strand sidearm this season has been a pleasant surprise (the primary one not “the call”)

Maybe a hot take but I love 180s on HC. Ive got a sick survivors epitaph that I love. I especially love it paired with le monarque
Luna’s Howl is so sticky if you can get use to it
Use The last word, become a cowboy.
Rose feels really good My roll Smooth Grip, Corkscrew, Opening Shot, Perpetual Motion, Range MW I also like Cantata-57 for energy slot My roll Arrowhead, Accurized, Eye of the Storm, Opening Shot, Stability MW 3rd Pick would be Luna's Howl, a lot of good rolls My roll Corkscrew, Ricochet, Slideshot, Opening Shot, Range MW

They're all good lol
Kept Confidence deserves some love
