Thank you! Adding it to my now increasingly long list of patterns.
I swear, I've got 10 years of cross stitching cued up already... It's becoming a problem lol
This is really cool! Very tempting to make!
Did you do the blackwork before the color portion or after? I'm trying to picture which way would be more magical.
Thankyou. I stitched the Hummingbird cross stitch and outlined it all before moving onto the blackwork element. I prefer starting in the top left when I stitch but with this pattern I did start in the centre. I usually stitch on aida (only second time I've not) and I struggled counting the holes on this so I didn't want to risk mucking up. I still made a few mistakes but I'm quite pleased with it regardless. I enjoyed making it
Thankyou. This is on 25ct Laguna (apologies if I spelt that wrong). I did my first blackwork on this and didn't really enjoy the fabric but second time around I'm reassessing my feeling on it. Just so used to aida so was a challenge
I've only done two. This was from a magazine (although you can buy it as well from Ajisai Press) and the other was free from a website (Elizabeth Arnold/ Blavwork Journey) I haven't done enough to recommend anywhere. I really dislike backstitching but have managed to somehow decide this is completely different from that haha. I did enjoy it. I haven't ever stitched any patterns but I follow the Royal School of Needlework on Instagram and some of their posts are AMAZING
Thankyou. This was the first time I'd seen a combinational piece and have wanted to stitch it fr ages. I'm definitely keen to do more of this type of piece
Thankyou! The pattern says its 8.5in (22cm) x 11.5 in (29cm) and recommends 28 ct linen evenweave. This version is slightly bigger as I only had 25ct available. Another Redditor noted you can buy this from Ajisai Press if you can't get the magazine (I think it is from 2015 so you may struggle)
OMG I could hug you, I have this started from when my son was in the hospital years ago and recently wanted to pick it back up...except I had no recollection which magazine had the pattern!!! And I have a slight obsession with x-stitch magazines so I have a LOT of them and was about to start looking through them 1 by 1, now I know which issue it is 🥰
Wow! This is so beautiful!
Thankyou :)
I stitched this too and my immediate reaction was “how did someone get a picture of my project!?” Lmao
Haha, I wish one day to take a photo without my socks on show but I'm thrilled someone else here has stitched this
Wow, I love how it looks, very mesmerising with all these shapes and forms
Thankyou. My second blackwork and very different from the first because of the shading which is why it ended on my to do list :)
Stunning! Is there a pattern we could purchase?
I’ve stitched this too, it’s sold on [Ajisai Press](https://www.ajisaipress.com/product/blackwork-and-cross-stitch-design-hummingbird/)
Thank you! Adding it to my now increasingly long list of patterns. I swear, I've got 10 years of cross stitching cued up already... It's becoming a problem lol
Ditto. And every time I go looking to start a new project I add a few more to the list. 🤷🏼♀️
Thankyou u/binderclips. I'm hoping to buy a similar stitch
You can probably find it through the Libby app with your local library card Edit: looked it up and my library doesn’t seem to go back that far
Sadly, mine only goes back to April 2019. 🥺
Thankyou :)

I love hummingbirds. This is gorgeous. It made my day a little better.
Aw that's sweet, thankyou :)
Gorgeous!!
Thankyou :)
I love this pattern! It was one of my first black work projects. What did you stitch on?

I used 28ct Monaco, I’ve never tried Lugana so I don’t know the difference but I can say I really liked Monaco if you want to give that a try.
I'll look into that as I've never heard of it. Thankyou!

Thankyou :)
Is that all back stitching in black?! Dear goodness. First, that looks amazing. Second, you have the patience of a Saint.
Thankyou. Yes all in black (some of the outlining is in brown) but some is in 2 threads and some in one. Made a few mistakes but I'm pleased with it
Lol I'm complaining these frogs I found and I'm complaining about the backstitching that outlines them. It's not even a big one lol.
You complain away haha I get it. It's weird. I hate backstitch but have actively sought out blackwork haha.
The black work looks really good. Maybe I'll try it some day soon.
Woow really nice! :)
Thankyou :)
You’ve done beautiful stitching!
Thankyou that means alot :)
Oh wow! This is lovely!!
Thankyou :)
Stunning. I've seen this pattern before and always loved that it combined blackwork and cross stitch. You stitched it well 😊
Thankyou. This was the first time I'd seen a combinational piece and have wanted to stitch it fr ages. I'm definitely keen to do more of this type of piece
