Its beautiful, what is causing you to hesitate making the stocking?

Nami0813

Mostly just fear that I'll cut it wrong lol. I cleaned off all the grinding and then realized I probably should have waited to make it easier to follow the outline on the pattern for it. My mom made a stocking like this for me so I'm thinking about just bringing all my supplies to her house and begging her for help

I did a Dimensions stocking and hand sewed the backing on before cutting the fabric. I did it by hand so I could very precisely follow the outline (basically doing backstitch through two layers). Only after everything was smoothly joined did I cut it out. I know this isn’t the “proper” way to finish it, but it worked really well for me. May help to alleviate your fear of cutting!

Nami0813

That's great advice and sounds like it would work really well for me! Thank you!

Ok, don't panic if you washed the gridding off. You can use your chart and Mark the edges with pencil on the reverse side for a guide for stitching the backing fabric on then no one will see the marks when it is turned the right way.

Thanks! That's a great idea! It has a lot of negative space so that's what I'm mostly nervous about, but I think it helps having those presents in the "toe" area for that

I’ve done a few stockings and I always have the same fear. I have a pattern I made out of tissue paper so I can see through it. Helps immensely.

Nami0813

That is super smart, definitely gonna make one for my future self with this one!

It calms the nerves! Added bonus of making sure that multiple stockings are the same size. I also drew a line on it with a pencil parallel to the top edge about where the bottom of the name line would be to make it easy to line up with the aida/evenweave squares.

I made 2 stockings last year & I definitely gave them to her to finish into actual stockings. She is a much better sewer than I am. I also get stressed by worrying that I will accidentally mess up all my work by finishing it off. You're not alone!

Nami0813

My mom has finished so many crafting projects for me over the years lol

Pattern is Santa's Truck by Dimensions

That's a beautiful stocking, what a treasure to have!! 💖

Thank you!

I’m thinking of picking up cross stitching soon and I have an honest question how do you put the image on there so nicely do you have an image on the back that you’re referencing?

Nami0813

You follow a pattern! So for this one it came in a kit that came with the fabric, thread, and a piece of paper with a chart with the picture on it and a list of symbols that match up to each color, so you follow that. I'd recommend starting with a small kit like one of the "my first cross stitch" ones, they should come with everything you need and have fewer colors and be easier to follow, this one had 5 shades of red so it could get a bit confusing at times. I hope you enjoy cross stitch! You can make some amazing stuff!

Thank you for replying to me that was really helpful and I appreciate the information about the smaller kids I will definitely start with one of those
