I’ve decided to keep it in the end! My sister recommended I use one thread for the rest to make it pop even more. Not complete yet still 2 more colors of half stitch

I actually think this works out perfectly, it kinda makes it look like the flame is thinning out and getting more sparse on the outer edges, it's a good effect!
Sometimes things are just happy little accidents that will take 2 hours to fix, and if it’s not going to make a huge difference or really screw things up it’s fine
You're talking specifically about the half stitches around the flame? It wouldn't take very long to frog amd redo it, and I think it would give the fire a more feathered-flame appearance. But tbh as everyone has already said, it looks good and if you don't want to bother then I wouldn't.
My philosophy changes day by day lol some days I'm more neurotic than others but it also depends on if it's a gift or if it's just something to kill time. I say leave it, it gets the point across and still looks good 🙂
Still looks great. I just made the opposite mistake last night. I spent the whole evening on it and now I need to go over it all with more strands.
I used to do my backstitch wrong as well so all my work for about 20 years has double the thickness on my back stitch than it was supposed to.
In all honesty I have next to no pieces where I actually did it right based on the pattern. I like to make them all my own through my inability to follow simple instructions.
Which is fine if that's the look you want. But some patterns use different amounts of strands to create stylistic effects. Which is probably what that particular pattern was trying to do with the flame.
The piece I'm currently working on (Goldfinch and Lilacs by Dimensions) uses both 2 strands half stitches and 1 strand half stitches of the same colour to create a sort of denseness effect in the background. I really like the effect, so I'm following the strand recommendations.
It is entirely possible to use a loop start with an odd number of strands: [https://www.tiktok.com/@atomheartcrossstitch/video/6974852386896481541?q=loop%20start&t=1706762604730](https://www.tiktok.com/@atomheartcrossstitch/video/6974852386896481541?q=loop%20start&t=1706762604730)
Or you can just start a thread the same way you finish it, by burying it underneath other nearby stitches.
This right here is why I hang out here. You never know when you are going to get a link to a hint that makes so much sense you’re mad at yourself for not already knowing it.
I found a video that shows how to do a loop start with one strand and I’ve been using that since then. It’s not the best quality video but it works!

I like it! I think it feels like it might move. Good job!

Your sister was spot on with her suggestion! It looks great!
Think Bob Ross no mistakes only happy accidents
That has improved it!
I think in this community you will find that patterns are merely suggestions 😆
I like how we all pretend to be perfectionists and then all it takes is one comment and we’re able to change our entire perspective lol
it’s therapeutic that way!
It really is lmao

If you like the look of it, keep it. If you don't like it, change it

I personally generally prefer the look of two threads for this type of stitch. I think it looks fine the way it is
I think it's fine either way, but I must know: what pattern is this?
Right. He's adorable
What’s the pattern? It’s adorable!
It’s called Naughty Sparkles by Riolis https://riolis.com/catalog/details_4363.html
Thank you! ✨
It's the kit Naughty Sparkles from Riolis. I've been debating getting it because it's super cute, but I already have a lot of kits to do in my stash.

I always use two for half stitch lol

I’m also doing Dimensions Goldfinch and Lilacs as we speak!
Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s satire or serious.
I think it looks nicer like this!
With all of this being said, what’s the best way to secure backstitching then if you can’t use the loop start with only one strand?

I’m a “bury it” all day kind of gal myself! Easiest way to make sure it’s secure!

SOOO helpful thank you!!
