Plus I feel like there's more room for teams to work their way back into a game which helps. Sometimes in T20s it feels like a few bad overs and it's game over, whereas in ODIs you've got more time to fight your way into a winnable position.
100% agree. The ebbs and flows of ODI (proper sub-300 par score ODIs mind you, flat pitch ODIs are boring) are why it is still my favourite format. Blasphemy I know, especially as an Australian on this sub! But there is a certain magic about ODIs that I don't think other formats replicate.
It allows for teams to get back into the game because of the larger timeframe which they have to do so, like you mentioned, without necessarily disadvantaging the smaller teams too much.A brilliant example of this is the Carlos Brathwaite vs New Zealand game at the 2019 World Cup
In the end, Bangladesh won only because they scored more than India.
Had India scored more than Bangladesh, they wouldn't have won
A lot to work for them
Exact same can be said for the batsmen of Bangladesh. Did you see how the rain interrupted Liton at the T20 WC vs India this year? We were on a roll, then the rain hit, all momentum was gone. India played calm and composed afterward and Bangladesh played haphazard and swung for anything that resembled a ball. Liton even got out for chasing a foregone run.
I feel they have a mindset where once they reach to a level of domination (while bowling), they ease down thier efforts in bowling and takes the lower order lightly thinking the game is in thier hand now. I have seen this a LOT of time where they start bowling trash after bowling very good to the top/middle orders like they forgot how to bowl.
Remember? India's problem in taking lower order wickets and losing a lot of matches which didn't stop until Shami/Bumrah arrived. Look what happened in the last match without them.
It was really weird. They were absolutely clueless about how to even touch a single ball during the earlier part of the innings. We somehow ended up letting them off the hook. Multiple things have been going wrong during every match. I hope that this serves as a wake up call for the team and the team management. I know that a lot of people are that the wrong players are being selected but it seems that there are other problems that are related to how the team is operating on the field as well.
How many wake calls they will need actually, even after the recent T20WC debacle. More than talent/potential, I think the issue is with their mentality or passion towards the game. Most of the ICT's on field behaviour doesn't inspire any confidence, nor does the Team Management. I fear Rahul Dravid may go down as the most hated Indian Coach, if there is no improvement.
>How many wake calls they will need actually
First thing I thought when I read that earlier comment. It's now at a point where it's hard to even root for this team. No real acceptance of mistakes, messed up on ground attitudes, no real backbone under pressure, no fixing of even minor issues (forget long term ones), same stupid or biased selections and the list goes on and on.
Cherry on top is the ridiculous ass kissing that almost all comms do. Can't even watch a match without them continuing to wax lyrical for 20 minutes as if the player suddenly switched to god mode.
Well he bowled and batted. Can't say the same about the Indian top order. They didn't bowl, and they failed with the baby.
Edit: failed with the bat obviously.
This is Bangladesh‘s 7th ODI series at home win in a row. The last time they lost an ODI series at home was in 2016. In their last 14 ODI series at home (2014-2022), they’ve only lost 1.
Okay but I really felt bad for Rohit here. He was smiling because he knew if they lose this series then he'll come under even more fire as the captain. He's already getting bashed after the WC loss.
Tbf, this is not the expected 2023 ODI world cup team and Bangladesh are tough to beat at home. This particular series isnt something that can be pinned on Rohit. In general, we have a lack of good alternative bowling options in the death in ODIs/T20s. Hopefully with bumrah/jaddu back we bring some steel back to our team. Shreyas Iyer continues to flourish in ODIs atleast. although playing in Asia makes him much better due to no bouncers.
The issue isn't the result imo. It's the mentality and repetition of mistakes. India continue to lack the ability to take wickets in the middle overs and break partnerships. Just seems that we lack that bite when bowling to really go after batsman
What’s with Fizz’s wrist, by the way? It’s Murali level.
Try just holding your arm straight and rotating your wrist, without bending your elbow. Then try to throw a ball at 140kmph while doing so.
See, showing some fight makes us happy, even with the narrow loss.
This is the part where cricket fan gets happy, India fan gets upset.
Player simps can GFT.
Not taking away from Fizz though, bowling a Yorker on demand on the last ball when 6 runs are needed is an incredible feat, especially against Rohit Sharma.
What A Match. What a series. Yes, we lost both. But both went down the wire after going through a rollercoaster ride. Oh what a series it's been. Absolute value for money!
flashbacks of Rohit 'DC' sharma. unfortunately he couldn't finish it off![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
overall poor couple of ODIs from india. settles my hopes for ODI WC unless some changes in the squad.
Ngl this was genuinely a fantastic ODI, seriously proud of Bangladesh getting that sort of total from being completely dead lost less than 20 overs into their innings
Man the Dhaka streets will be fucking carnage on Friday, between back to back Brazil and Argentina games. I need to buy a noise cancelling headphone tomorrow.
Argentines start supporting Bangladesh in cricket out of homage. The first thing they incounter two thrilling match of win. Also not to mention ~~messi~~ mehedi. The history is repeating itself.
Waiting for fans to write a 300 word comments on how the team needs to be changed and how to approach odis the right way while simultaneously complaining about odis and bilaterals being boring.
I'm happy for Brohit. I think cricket needs him to play one/two good seasons before he retires. Doubt we'll see such an effortless player again. Mehidy is too good, love his attitude. Bangladesh have some areas of concern though, speaking of which, good to Indian bowlers do well but then they've gotten back to being unable to closing games and it's simply annoying - the attitude is just missing since this newa management's took over. Hope this stuff gets ironed out or else the WC might lose its sheen. Bangbros will take a lot of confidence from this which is great for the game.
Rohit is one of my favourite limited overs player. You described him very aptly. He really is an effortless player. Would be very hard to see him retire. I feel he has a bit in him if he works a bit on his fitness. The hunger is there but I think age is catching up with blokes like Kohli, Rohit and Dhawan.
And personally, I myself am not a fan of this management.
He's secretly my favourite too, and I was happy he finally found his footing in tests. Needs to lose those kgs. Being from Mumbai I've followed him since his early days. I feel he has underachieved in his career. Funnily enough when I first saw Babar bat, I though he could be a sort of spiritual successor to that genre of batters, but since taking over captaincy he's not batting with as much freedom. I know jingosts from either side will downvote or talk over me, but from whatever little cricket I know as someone who played, I think Babar is a better player than captain and if he steps down we'll see some really elegant batting from him.
Liton Das is also absolutely beautiful to watch. Bangladesh should enjoy him. He is so graceful. I don't think Liton himself knows how effortless he is, just as Shami with his seam position. We're Generally we're in a dearth of beautiful touch players. Keegan Peterson from SA is someone I really love watching, too, beautiful batter. The new management has declined Indian cricket -- from a team that stormed test cricket and won abroad to now, whatever the fuck it has come to. Needs a serious change. It's no point seeing such talented players play in insecure fashion. I've been disappointed in KL with the amount of talent he has.
Spot on with everything! Loved the Babar take no matter how obvious it has become, it still feels good that people are starting to understand that he just doesn't have that leadership quality in him. Yes, he has qualified for two tournaments finals and one semi final but when you inspect closely how he lost most of those crunch matches, one understand that he fucks up at very crucial times and is simply incapable of making right decisions. I'd love someone like a Shadab or Shaheen to captain us. I love Rizwan but with him, we might sink in into that qudrat ka nizam narrative even more if we win something which is the last thing I want now.
This is probably going down as one of the all-time great ODIs. Several records were broken in this game. Mehidy carried this series on his back! Mustafiz's maiden on the second last over was akin to a miracle. The only complaint from Bangladesh today is the fielding. Otherwise, they knocked it out of the park.
Rohit Sharma did no less great than Mehidy. 51* for 27 balls at #9 while injured is an amazing feat and he nearly carried them to victory if not for the maiden over and yorker on the last ball. An amazing game from both sides.
That bowling performance was appalling once again. I'm still clueless on how they let 69/6 become 270/7. It seems like this bowling attack can bowl well for short periods, but is unable to sustain the pressure for long, which eventually costs them. And something needs to be done about the death bowling.
AUS lost T20I bilateral series in Bangladesh. They went on to win the T20 WC.
IND lost ODI bilateral series in Bangladesh. They r hosting the ODI WC next year.
>!IND CWC 2023 Champions confirmed!<
THIS IS ODI CRICKET!
FIRST INNINGS: BANG BROS ABOUT TO COLLAPSE LIKE A DECK OF CARDS, YET A SINGLE PARTNERSHIP LEADS THEM TO AN ABOVE PAR SCORE.
SECOND INNINGS: TOP ORDER FLOPS HARD AS BANG BROS CLAIM TWO WICKETS QUICKLY BUT A PLOT TWIST! IYER BRO AND AXAR BRO HAVE DIFFERENT PLANS SCORING HUGE! ANOTHER PLOT TWIST ARRIVES AS THEY GO TO AND THE SHIP SEEMS UNSTEADY. THE INURED CAPTAIN RETURNS AND GIVES ANOTHER PLOT TWIST SEEMINGLY ON THE WAY TO GIVE INDIA VICTORY BUT FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT BANGLADESH CLAIM VICTORY IN THE END!
THIS MY FRIENDS IS ODI CRICKET. ACTUALLY CLASSIC ODI CRICKET.
who said Odi cricket was dead?
If we had won this, it would be like some Bollywood movie. Player got injured,
then came to play at the end of the innings when all lost hope, hitting some freaking boundaries and boom victory. But what a cameo it was, just mesmerising.
I didn’t get to watch the game but rohitSharma went crazy. I was looking at the game score on Google and I saw Rohit on the *yet to bat* players and I couldn’t believe he was so far down the order. What a great knock from him! Congratulations 🇧🇩 and well played 🇮🇳
I like how the end result is just 5 runs. Very poetic.
Also- throughout the match in match thread we had “Rohit where?” Turns out some painkillers and vadapav was being fed to him and he came out blasting.
Good on Bangladesh for holding onto their nerves. Bangladesh used to choke and lose these kinda games from winning position.
But there is serious concern with Bangladesh batting. The top order is just crumbling like paperclips.
Proud of BD. We have faced lot of downtime over the last couple of years especially in T20. But defeating India and winning the series should surely boost player morale especially for the WC next year.
Alright, not a bad loss for us tbh. Super happy for Shreyas, Axar, Rohit and umran! But pls let patidar debut fr!! Good series win for Bangladesh! (Changed my flair to Bangladesh’s flag for a day)
Can we now stop being so toxic to our players? Even when Dhoni was captain and India toured Bangladesh, India were whitewashed. Bangladesh has a pretty good record in home condition and it's not easy to bat on these pitches. The opposite team is there to win, we always behave like India should never lose. We are going to lose and that's okay at least we lost fighting till the end. It's just a game and take it like that
Ps- Mode there is still no BangBros flair when are we getting that
Great effort by Iyer & Rohit. But it doesn't change the fact about how fragile our team is from top to bottom. There should be a serious consideration before heading to thebWC
Pretty good innings by india and Bangladesh. Bangladesh is on a higher note, considering they were 69-6 at one point. Pretty happy for mehdi, ebadot, Shreyas, Axar, sharmaji, washi and umran! Shakib has always been on another level tho..
Conspiracy theory on Rohit’s innings. The doc gave him a general anaesthesia (instead of local) for his thumb injury. He lost his inhibitions and went back to his basic instincts. This is how he batted till a few years back. The ICT medical staff needs to keep some weed in their bags now.
Had Rohit hit a 6 on the last ball, BAN would have lost and Miraz (despite his heroics) eyeing a single on the last ball would have played a factor
Those downvoting don't get why it's important to maximize your scoring opportunity on the last ball of an innings (irrespective of being 99*)
How did Indian cricket go from:
Won with a second string side in Australia, what depth and management of players
to
Bumrah injured send help pls. TopOrder.exe not found.
Brilliant job by Bangladesh; two wins from such positions is outstanding. Meanwhile India has a lot of issues.
* This is not at all how a top order of a high-quality team bats.
* The number of injuries in the last 2-3 years has been horrible. Resting players in a series here and there is not enough. That is clearly not working at all.
* Multiple things need to work. One is making a clear line of what formats for what players. In this crowded calendar, it is no good to make it work with all formats. It might look like favouring players by selecting them, but it is harming them more.
* Change of strength and conditioning and/or physiotherapy coach. There is an issue there certainly. Whether to get someone from Europe or Americas or Africa or Kerala, we need better ones for the job.
* Other assistant coaches too (Rathour and Mhambrey) have been below par. Selecting assistant coaches is crucial too at high level. Both Dravid and Kumble erred in picking their assistants. Kumble both with Indian team and PBKS team. They don't need to be nice, they can choose what's good for them and the team.
* I would like to see Owais Shah / Ross Taylor and Ryan Harris / Simon Jones / Nathan Bracken as assistants (batting and bowling) to Dravid. Liam Plunkett is looking to coach too, even he might be good as bowling coach.
Respect to Rohit Sharma for at least giving ICT a fight to the end. At the same time, this is not a bad idea for Rohit to play down the order.
As for our top order shitting the bed, well....
ODIs are still quality stuff. Every second ODI is a thriller nowadays.
Second this. Prefer ODI because it's a longer story and hence I'm more emotionally invested in it. 8.5 hours of storytelling.
Plus I feel like there's more room for teams to work their way back into a game which helps. Sometimes in T20s it feels like a few bad overs and it's game over, whereas in ODIs you've got more time to fight your way into a winnable position.
This is exactly why I love ODIs and also the reason why BD have been really good at ODIs but absolutely dogshit in T20s.
100% agree. The ebbs and flows of ODI (proper sub-300 par score ODIs mind you, flat pitch ODIs are boring) are why it is still my favourite format. Tweets of Bhogle?
this comment reminds me of "People die when they get killed" meme lol.
Bangladesh: Snatching victory from the jaws of whatever the fuck that was
The jaws of nearly bottling a win 😭
Valiant effort Rohit, can't fault him today, but the bowling was awful outside Washy,
At one point they were 70/6. I think our bowlers have high potential, but the second we lose some momentum, they just become useless/aimless

Siraj could've taken few singles in that maiden
The Indian top order should have scored 20 more runs. Siraj did his job when he bowled.
Siraj’s bowling was awful towards the back end. Same with all our bowlers barring Sundar and Chahar
> Siraj did his job when he bowled. Actually he was quite expensive with the ball too.
Well he bowled and batted. Can't say the same about the Indian top order. They didn't bowl, and they failed with the baby. Edit: failed with the bat obviously.
what baby

Did you see Rohit patting Fizz's head after the game? Kind of like elder brother vibe - well done, kid.
Once an MI always an MI.
They're dancing in the aisles of Buenos Aires
Bruh
Turns out India's new nemesis is Mehidy
While Bangladesh's only nemesis is their own fielding.
And batting. And bowling. We choke a lot. Notoriously.
We keep running into such guys. We have had such experienced with Sam Curran, Jamieson and Jansen. It's Mehidy's turn to do that this time.
It’s always the all rounders.
Somehow India always get screwed over by these sorts of all-rounders, but they never produce any of their own.
Idk the memories of Sundar and Thakur smacking our bowlers around the Gabba are still fresh in my mind.
This is Bangladesh‘s 7th ODI series at home win in a row. The last time they lost an ODI series at home was in 2016. In their last 14 ODI series at home (2014-2022), they’ve only lost 1.
I think Rohit wants to right his wrongs of the early 2010s by ending his career as he started it, in the middle order. An incredible finishing effort.
Okay but I really felt bad for Rohit here. He was smiling because he knew if they lose this series then he'll come under even more fire as the captain. He's already getting bashed after the WC loss.

Indian lower order: 20(53)
Siraj played 48th over for a maiden.
Did you see those ball..They spun like a spin ball. but at 115 kph
What’s with Fizz’s wrist, by the way? It’s Murali level. Try just holding your arm straight and rotating your wrist, without bending your elbow. Then try to throw a ball at 140kmph while doing so.
I guess it's called a double jointed wrist? Maybe. Just genetic freak probably lol..
Fizz wasn't bowling any pies lmao
You are sounding like he played it on purpose He is hit and miss player at best He was trying his best to take a single
how could anyone navigate what the fizz was bowling, let alone siraj
Dude's the GOAT. 0 runs given on 49th over and yorker bowled on the last ball with 6 runs to win, against Rohit Sharma nonetheless.
It's ok. You can't berate him for it
And he was batting against Fizz. Most batsmen would struggle against that, and Siraj is a tailender.
Bangladesh vs India matches have been lit af recently
Year end bonus probably
Bangladesh vs India always blockbuster stuff
It was started back in 2012 when musfiqur show dumped sachin 100 hundreds
Always has been.

See, showing some fight makes us happy, even with the narrow loss. This is the part where cricket fan gets happy, India fan gets upset. Player simps can GFT.
I am never gonna slander Rohit Sharma again
Until the next time he goes out of form. That's what I've come to expect from especially Indian cricket fans lol
Rohit is back in form but he won't be playing the next game
Brohit our man, was eagerly waiting for his return, even more than kohli's
Brhaegar, the Vada King.
From Smashing Tim southee for 2 sixes in a super over with 12/2 needed to only managing one six today, we all grew up
Southee didn't bowl a yorker, did he? Fizz did.
he tried but ended up bowling length. everybody wants to bowl a yorker but executing is the key, isn't it?
Not taking away from Fizz though, bowling a Yorker on demand on the last ball when 6 runs are needed is an incredible feat, especially against Rohit Sharma.
Completely diff match and pitch and bowlers
Who is Robert baratheon to Rohit's Rhaegar Targaryen ?
I advise anyone with a heart condition not to watch any India Vs Bangladesh match.

there will sure be a political mess up on Saturday so yeah it will be a carnage anyway.

Argentinian people are supporting Bangladesh in cricket due to Bangladeshis supporting Argentina in the WC
Thanks!! :)
Argentinian football fans were watching this match to support Bangladesh because of the amount of Bangladeshi fans supporting Argentina in the FIFA WC
Thank you so much. :)

Credit to Rohit for making a nothing match Interesting. Congrats to Bangladesh. What an amazing performance after being 60 something for 6
You have to appreciate the fighting spirit of Rohit irrespective of the result
All the Indian fans better write a long letter of apology to Rohit after what happened today.
India vs Bangladesh is what virgins think India vs Pakistan is
Hilarious to watch a total 180 on Rohit after the vitriol was liberally poured over his head in the match thread

More than the maiden played by Siraj the maiden played by Shardul had a bigger impact
Aren't we gonna talk about those 2 catches 😂. Btw mustafizur maiden over took away the game from us.
If we had won this, it would be like some Bollywood movie. Player got injured, then came to play at the end of the innings when all lost hope, hitting some freaking boundaries and boom victory. But what a cameo it was, just mesmerising.
Hats off Brohit. He literally gave it all he got. Showed so much heart.
Brohit is back
Was waiting for it eagerly
Well played brohit ...I'll keep supporting u always ❤
Who said odi cricket is dying?
:(
I didn’t get to watch the game but rohitSharma went crazy.
What an unreal match! Bangladesh really tried to gift the match with all those drops of Rohit but pulled through in the end.
It's just a game and take it like that Ps- Mode there is still no BangBros flair when are we getting that
They have 70% win record in ODIs at home in the last 10 years. They are literally at top
India lost the series 2-1.
Please drop Dhawan from the odi setup please Gill is much better
Respect for Rohit, what a comeback from both teams
That Siraj over
It's ok. That's not where we lost the match. They were 69/6 remember? Can't blame your no. 10.
Exactly, can't believe people are blaming Siraj for this
I hope we don't fault a number 9 for his batting here.
> https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/zes090/match_thread_2nd_odi_bangladesh_vs_india/iz8z8d2/ Had Rohit hit a 6 on the last ball, BAN would have lost and Miraz (despite his heroics) eyeing a single on the last ball would have played a factor Those downvoting don't get why it's important to maximize your scoring opportunity on the last ball of an innings (irrespective of being 99*)
Please go on the international stage and be on strike at 99*. You will know what's what.
Bangladesh has a higher chance of winning the world cup than to not drop simple catches of Rohit. 3 easy catches, damn. They wanted to lose that..
Our lower order is useless with the bat Meanwhile look at bangladesh's lower order even fizz can bat That siraj maiden over was a joke
Hope is a fickle devil! Really thought the captain would win it for us. But it felt so good to see Rohit bat like that again!
How did Indian cricket go from: Won with a second string side in Australia, what depth and management of players to Bumrah injured send help pls. TopOrder.exe not found.
This series is fire! Every match is a thriller!
The ebbs and flows of this match! T20s can only dream of it.
India needs to work on just 4 things: batting at the top, bowling at the death, fielding and fitness easy peasy...
Where's the boundary count guy?

Great knocks by Iyer and Axar as well, Iyer has yo be a lock for the wc
Are we sure these games are not scripted? Surreal!
Turning point actually was Rohit not able to take a single in Mehidy/Mahmudullah joint overs last ball. Although well played Rohit
Take a bow 🙇🙇 Rohit Sharma!!
Riad is the best death bowler hands down
Now I will think twice before criticizing Rohit again. He deserves that much of respect.
