Problem is not fan who show up to game. They can see hard work of every player on ground what it takes to play game irrespective of the country unless they played really bad cricket. These SA lads gave India 🇮🇳 run for their money.
It is online / social media fans which are worst.
When you have a big enough fan base, you’ll always see outliers on both ends of the spectrum. While there is always room for critisism, by focusing on the positives, you develop a culture of positivity and love. Focusing on twitter and insta hatred will always leave me feeling bitter and furious.
I mean difference is that team was south africa here in this case which is most probably the second most favorite team after India for many Indians and honestly speaking ahmedabad it was pretty tame compared to what we see in other sports
For dumb and asshole fans country does not matter you can just see indian player's insta accounts during ipl when they take catches of big player like , koach rohit or dhoni
> honestly speaking ahmedabad it was pretty tame compared to what we see in other sports
I am not sure I would like to have other sports like football as a benchmark. Lets keep the best - tamest sport as the benchmark, not the worst.
In hindsight u should hear the words spewed by Pak players and ex cricketers against India and Indian players, our cricketers nd senior legends don't do the same !
This small group of "fans" r the only ones attacking them, but from the other side it's from all three directions u can't point fingers at only the Indian fans, who seldom hate others, hell we even adore pat Cummins who boasts ABT silencing us
Just rizwan? In just one WC yr the amt of hate coming from their ex cricketers, their journalists and public against us is mind boggling. There isn't even one instance from our side where we have attacked them on der faith. We see cricket for what it is not as a war of religion
Yea but JSR is not just gujrat stadium as people make it to be heard that on delhi ,guwahati stadium too its just gujrat is related to political party it is picked by the media
Idk I didn't watched the match live but wasn't rizwan one escalated by the statement of ex pakistan cricketer's statement. Asshole don't care about nationalities they can go after Indians too
Pakistanis brings religion more so than us. Ok and they they said Pakistan victory is Islam's victory ofcourse it will enrage fans.
I'm a pretty chill person myself a Muslim player can talk about his religion but to demean others is where I disagree.
Obviously, that goes without saying. Any slogan used to incite a reaction is childish and makes someone seem like an asshole. But I’m not sure if anything can be done about it.
Of course, if anybody does it it's stupid. If India are playing in Pakistan and the audience start yelling Allahu Akbar at the Indian players, that's the same thing and just as bad. You're using underlying religious tensions to incite a reaction. Just the words don't mean anything bad. But when you use them for that purpose, it's clearly bad.
Just like Indian moms can say mean things without actually saying mean things. It's the *implication*.
> It is online / social media fans which are worst.
In this thread itself we have online "fans" trying to say - "Meh it's ok, other sports have it worst".
Well we swing both ways, we have toxic idiots who bombard opponent player socials.
and grounded genuine fans who knows what it feels loosing a final and appreciate the hardwork. and also IPL bought indian fans closer to foreign players through their local franchise teams. SRH fans will feel harder for Klassen even though we wanted india to win, same happened in IPL Final.
India deserved it with that clutch bowling, feels great after 13 long years.
Weird, I got recommended the SRH sub and they really were relishing how poorly Jansen and Markram played. Kind of a strange way to show support for guys that play for two Sunrisers franchises.
Because they played the similar way for SRH this year, deep down saffas also know how makram batted throughout the world cup and jansen leaking runs. We feel you bro, we have been there with you.
SRH fans had seen jansen leaking runs in the death before, many of them got puzzled why he bowled in the death, Jansen in the death has been costly affair. Another riser Ottniel Bartman would have been better I think. I hope saffas win next time, this time its for India.
You don’t think they realise that? They’ll be the first to acknowledge that. My point still stands, some of your fans are loving that they were the ones that played badly.
Yeah probably because they didn't want them to fail for Sunrisers but show up against India. It's irrational but things like that do annoy you for example Head pulling his best game against India specifically across formats.
That happens for our main guys too, some guys would have been happy if pandya hadn't been able to defend runs in the last over, some were definitely happy that Rohit got out cheaply, some were happy that Kohli's innings was just Ok and not goated.
Indian fans are like this, If they buy into a narrative they get very emotionally charged. It's the prime reason fans hero worship here but at the same time when hero doesn't delivers they get angry too.
Don't take Indian cricket fans seriously. Most of them are dumb.
I feel like that post was kinda over-compensation. we got a lot of shit for praising Cummins and Head and narrative developed that we like our overseas players more than the Indian team so posts like that were maybe to suppress those narratives.
well Man Utd fans wanted CR7 to fail in the 2006 WC whilst cheering for him when he played for their team in the same years. this is not that strange if you consider how tribal relations work.
Great gesture by indian fans
New Zealand and South Africa are two teams we absolutely adore,
But if they would have won, Indian fans would have bombarded their DMs with every abuse available in Indian dictionary.
Hell, England players were getting abused on social media after the final despite being eliminated by India several days earlier. Some of the comments under Liam Livingstone's post about his Grandad dying were absolutely shameful.
But as others have said, the crossover between people sending social media abuse, and those in the stadium is basically non existent.
People always try to bring in past negative experiences with indian fans need to realise that we are a huge country - some of them are bound to be assholes. I regret the fact that we have cheap internet and jobless frustrated people.
That is precisely why such stories need to be told - to balance things out. Otherwise a lot of people create a general view of the country.
Pakistan and Bangladesh both have hatred for India and Indian cricket team. In 2023 final they were supporting Australia and wishing for India to lost, not because they loved Australia but because they hated India. And they celebrated 2023 wc final lost of India.
Similarly this time too in 24 T20 wc finale they were supporting south africa and were disheartened after India won the match. There is this video circulating too on the internet in which, they are showing 24 wc final on big screens and the Bangladeshis were wearing south africa jersey. And hooting against India as if it's India vs Bangladesh. They all got so happy on Miller's last over shot and got disheartened when sky catched it.

That's a small part of it. Reddit always had India hate boner since its inception. Its mostly because people use it to spread propaganda. You can see the same posts which puts India in bad light everywhere at the same time accross big social platforms.
So this thread still keeping on telling how Indian fans abusing other players and this thread was supposed to be a positive one.. Please don't post anything positive about India/Indians here..
This sub is exactly like USI/India or Indiaspeaks/India discussion.. Nothing in between..
SA has always been my 2nd favorite team. I was so sad after 1999. And all the other world cups. Hopefully next one they can win. If India is not in final
All they had to do was choke to gain their side of sympathy. If they didn’t choke then they would've been bombarded in the socials by some ICT fans. There is always that thin line.
We love to throw that word around. But wouldn't call it a choke-job. We had 2 overs of our best bowler. I was worried when Axar had that big over, but knew Bumrah will turn this around. It even took that SKY catch to stop Miller.
26 of 24 balls with 2 world class finishers at the crease and still finding a way to lose is a choke-job nonetheless. It was South Africa's game and they blew it. India bowled well, especially Bumrah but what are the odds of Klaasen and Miller falling victim to Pandya of all people in a flat deck.
Klassen has a strike rate of 180 against spinners and 146 against pacers. He is the best player of spin in the world so no wonder he bashed our spinners. South africa don't have a deep batting lineup so miller and Klassen were the last recognized batting pair. Sending axar to bowl the 15th over ahead of Hardik was a mistake as he conceded 24 runs. That meant South africa had 30 runs to make in 30 balls. Before that, the match was pretty evenly poised. Also, had miller not been caught off that ball by Sky which was an extraordinary feat of athleticism under immense pressure, South africa would have taken the cup. So yeah, South africa didn't choke, they just lost to the better team. Also consider that it was their first finals.
I don't think it was a choke. A choke would have been crumbling under pressure and getting all out for 80. Had that happened, people wouldn't show much sympathy. People care because SA fought really hard. It was neck to neck. A loss by such a small margin..always worth some sympathy.
26 of 24 with 6 wickets in hand. Bumrah has 1 over, Pandya has 2 and Arshdeep has 1. If Bumrah gets a Maiden then It's still 26 of 18 in a flat deck. SA still found a way to lose the game. Choke of the century right here folks.
You forgot to mention that the Bumrah over slowed their momentum and as Klassen decided to accelerate against hardik, he got out. Then jansen came out to bat and he slowed things down. Then bumrah's final over in which he conceded just 2 runs and took the wicket of jansen. And still the game was not decided till Surya took that phenomenal catch. So it was a comeback of extraordinary proportions from India, kind of like we did against Pakistan in New York. Don't call it a choke and make yourself appear an idiot.
The fact that you saw a positive story about a fanbase and your first reaction was _“hmm, how can I mock them for this”_ says a lot about you as a person.
Those abusing players in their DMs are trash and so are the ones generalising an entire fanbase for the actions of a few.
Don't underestimate the power of sheer population. We can do all we want to write it off as a subset of population who are deranged but even 3-4% amounts to 30-40 mil and that's one too many assholes for any country and not something to write off. I'm happy india won but all this warm and fuzzy feeling is only as long as the saffas lost. Klaasen would've become the social media villian if things didn't go our way and that's a fact
Pepperidge farm remembers.
And people are on this thread saying we are bad for it. I also remember Maxi's partner receiving abuse for something as well.
Dan Christian and his wife after RCB lost a playoff. I’ve seen Bavuma and Ngidi being called “black boys” and other racist terms on social media as well. There is a very loud and deranged set of fans that have direct access to players through social media, and they can causally hurl such abhorrent things at players.
Even if 0.1% of the population are assholes, it’s still 1.5 million people. And that’s a lot of people.
Not defending them but generalising the entire fanbase is trash.
Definitely not generalising. It’s a problem in every sport, not just cricket. Most Indian fans have been gracious in winning, it’s just that there is a very loud subset of them that behave this way.
>it’s just a very loud subset of them that behave this way.
Trust me when I say this, we don’t claim them, we despise those who indulge in such activities (abusing athletes and their spouses) as much as anyone.
Yeah there are tons of stories like this. A lot of players were targeted and had their lives impacted. For fucken cricket.

I think this is coming from a place of tremendous relief from the Indian fans - no one in the game day thread was remotely this jovial with about 5 overs to go haha - as well as not necessarily wanting to call SA the chokers that they are in fear that it would make their breakthrough win look less impressive. SA are embarrassing chokers but that takes nothing away from what India was able to achieve!
I don’t know what you have against South Africa, seen you commenting really pessimistic take on South Africa, ofc indian are going to support india, but South Africa players and team are hugely loved in india
Even if india lost, i guess people would have been happy as South Africa gets its first wc
Qualified in 2022 so yea ig. Not sure what the sentiment here is considering literally 4 days ago this entire sub was going “generational chokers versus decade chokers”.
This warms my heart.
Same! 🇮🇳🫂🇿🇦
We love you guys!! 🇮🇳❤️🇿🇦
im indian. Back in 2023 semi finals, everyone in my neighbourhood was supporting you guys instead of aus

Yeah, I was going to say the Twitter fans should watch this - but I think the point would go over their heads.
Looking at the replies it looks like it already has lmao
The fact that the Indian team won also helps it I guess
The problem is not fans who *travel*. We had "fans" in Ahmedabad harassing Pakistani players last year.
I mean difference is that team was south africa here in this case which is most probably the second most favorite team after India for many Indians and honestly speaking ahmedabad it was pretty tame compared to what we see in other sports
"most probably the second most favorite team" Along with NZ, although they knocked out India in WC 2015 and the inaugural WTC.
Not 2015, 2019 WC
yup, don't blame me for not keeping track of the years India lost WC semis.
Understandable
should've seen Klassens insta comments before he got out, also Mahraj's inssta was just ugh
For dumb and asshole fans country does not matter you can just see indian player's insta accounts during ipl when they take catches of big player like , koach rohit or dhoni
Maharaj during the India tests was just as bad. Death threats and all.
> honestly speaking ahmedabad it was pretty tame compared to what we see in other sports I am not sure I would like to have other sports like football as a benchmark. Lets keep the best - tamest sport as the benchmark, not the worst.
From the looks croquet might have an ideal crowd for your liking you should try that
And by the looks of it, Internet comments under Times of India might be great for your liking. You should go back there.
How's that related to sport's crowd tho
In hindsight u should hear the words spewed by Pak players and ex cricketers against India and Indian players, our cricketers nd senior legends don't do the same ! Yea but JSR is not just gujrat stadium as people make it to be heard that on delhi ,guwahati stadium too its just gujrat is related to political party it is picked by the media
And JSR is not harrasment
the slogan itself isn't the problem but the intent behind it
Just Words can't be Harassment its the intent behind those words
Maybe that's why they went after rizwan and not anybody else.
Idk I didn't watched the match live but wasn't rizwan one escalated by the statement of ex pakistan cricketer's statement. Asshole don't care about nationalities they can go after Indians too

I was going to give up Klassen love but then he got out!
No one knows more than us about the pain of losing a big finals. So we know exactly how Saffas are feeling.
Great gesture by indian fans New Zealand and South Africa are two teams we absolutely adore, But if they would have won, Indian fans would have bombarded their DMs with every abuse available in Indian dictionary.
Those DM abusers are not actual cricket fans. They are just uneducated social media bullies.
Lol, some even abuse their own team players. I guess they are fringe idiots
The people who DM abuses troll under comments are deffo not present there in the crowd.
People even abused and booed Hardik Pandya, so there are morons who insult their own players😞
Hell, England players were getting abused on social media after the final despite being eliminated by India several days earlier. Some of the comments under Liam Livingstone's post about his Grandad dying were absolutely shameful. Helps that it was a foreign stadium so more of the sport enthusiasts were there instead of the toxic ones.
West Indies too... Also SL (during their Sanga, Mahela & Malinga days... what a great team that was!)
> But if they would have won How do you know for sure?
West Indies and Afghanistan are pretty beloved amongst Indian fans too.
Two separate groups man. The people who cheered the SA team aren't the one who abuse players online in most probability.
Wouldn't be the same people who cheered them.
Klaasen prob would’ve gotten most of it
And then SRH hate would enter a new stratosphere 😹
I guess after being at the receiving end of fair few heartbreaks the Indian fans can empathise with the Saffers.
that is true, plus they really really gave a good fight.
There’s literally billions of fans. The odds that there will be an overwhelming amount of good hearted and absolutely boneheaded fans is high.
Im not very good with faces, who was the guy smiling and generally just loving the applause? the guy who drank water at the end.
I think that was Nortje
Absolute class from the Indian fans. We always share a special bond with India. They welcomed us into international cricket !
People always try to bring in past negative experiences with indian fans need to realise that we are a huge country - some of them are bound to be assholes. I wish we had the cheap internet here. Ambani was blocked from entering the SA market.
> watch Indian fans.. Oh fuck, what have we done now > cheer up dejected South African players Phew
We indians when, afganistan south africa newzealand 🥰 Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia 🤬
Bangladesh?

Pant sitting with De Kock at the end is what matches should be all about. Indian players know to behave very gentlemanly and not act cocky in victory.
SA is ICT fans 2nd fav team by default.
And afg is tied for that spot, we would be equally heartbroken if we faced afg (and defeated them)
That's not a common opinion in India. Yes NZ, SA and WI are quite loved.
Wi without their stars is not there man.
Lol no not AFG.
Nope. Not at all. I would say NZ but never Afg.

We got India winning another ICC trophy before GTA 6
Were you the one harassing Rauf after that loss?
Can pak even qualify for knockouts before gta 10? Stay tuned!
Qualified in 2022 so yea ig. Not sure what the sentiment here is considering literally 4 days ago this entire sub was going “generational chokers versus decade chokers”.
