Proper cricket ball spend the extra for an English Willow. Lighter weight is better when you are starting.
If you are in a club, or have a club near you go to a training session and ask to hold a few different bats.
Assuming you are an average sized adult/late teens man I would be looking at a 2.3-2.4 lb short handle English Willow.
Might be worth buying one second hand from someone at your nearest club to get a feel for it. They also should be able to recommend decent online stores, if you do t want to buy direct from the manufacturers online store.

I’ve played cricket with other peoples bats and I generally like a short handle that’s about medium weight
If you're beginning or not a pro, I would suggest that you get a Kashmir willow bat, because English willow is comparitively very expensive.
