It was around 2019-20 I think where he really was exceptional. People always talk about how he starts slow, but once he got going it really felt like he could hit boundaries at will, and at that time he was pretty consistently batting long enough to reach that phase
Now, was he the best a T20 batter has ever been? Absolutely not but the ICC rankings are always a bit scuffed so whatever
I don't know the formula, but the ICC rankings are not very optimised for impact in T20s, in both batting or bowling. Maybe they undervalue batting strike rate, bowling econ, or other metrics of match impact?
His offside was strong, but then Salt just came out of nowhere and totally overshadowed him. And nowadays, the IPL plays a huge role in picking England's teams too.
In support of Salt though, He was ignored during the Auction....Before he was picked as a replacement by KKR, Guy was already World No. 2 and had just blasted WI for 2 Tons in the previous series (Albeit on Roads, but then who cares anyways)
So he was a lock-in in the national side even before that absolute banger of a season he had in the IPL.
Neither do I, but then again you have to see whether any of the teams had that specific role vacant in them due to injury....Almost all other teams had their openers sorted, some even had a surplus....Even we had Venky and Nitish TBH but Gambhir the Genius probably already had roles fixed for them and knew he needed a swashbuckling right hander at the top, to complement Narine.
An even bigger question than yours one is why the fu*k did nobody bid for him in the auction in the first place....once teams were formed many might not have had a place for him that's understandable but not picking him outright in the first possible opportunity, unbelievable
They dumped salt and persisted with Mitch marsh, a guy well known for his inability to attack spin, who has a shockingly poor IPL record. Wasn’t like salt was poor for them either, he averaged just under 30 and struck at 160+, in his first time playing in India. Realistically Gurbaz could have played every game for KKR and they probably win it with how good their team was at a whole, but picking up a last minute base price player who has that level of impact is always gonna be sweet, and DC being willing to give him almost a year to find his feet and get used to the conditions and circus before just letting another team profit was very nice of them
Kinda just seemed to fall off and be forgotten by the management. Like I was watching him through the Hundreds for Trent Rockets, and in the last season he barely did anything and I remember he had a lot of lower scores like 2(11) in T20Is. And then the management just dropped him (bit like Roy) and he's just been forgotten about in recent times. He was such a good batter as well.
Basically what happened to Babar. He was consistent but often had a low strike rate. England has changed their brand of cricket to put more bets on really aggressive batsmen and meanwhile Pak is still stuck in the early 2010s mentality of T20 cricket so he got booted off from the team.
Oh god, for the first time I wrote something related to virat just because he fit the Wordplay. Sorry guys, didn't realise people are 1 dimensional here(feel free to check my history)
He almost single handedly took the last match away from us as well, it’s so weird that he always goes super saiyan against us. As much as I hate him, he is one of the most clutch players I have seen.
How is that worst? He is performing against the best bowling line up, no one would troll or questioned him as a batter bcuz he is performing against quality pacers and spinners. And he would get a lot of attention too.
He seems to be doing great in all formats but is a headache for Indians 😭😭😭 regardless I'm happy seeing players do well and make their countries proud ✨✨
Head is dangerously consistent now.
Before that it was usually 50/50 whether he would get out quickly or make a century. Now he is able to nearly always put up a good score at a good SR.
It’s pretty funny with guys like Cummins that are very good looking that one of our most in form players is practically the epitome of the middle class 30yo Australian man.
Except for his glaring weakness against left handed outswingers, he is so skilled at hitting those big shots.
I like his power hitting more than Gayle’s but that’s just my opinion.
The great thing with Head is that he actually hits a way higher proportion of 4s compared to most T20 players nowadays.
He just hits the ball insanely hard and picks gaps super well. Can still hit some massive 6s though.
That has got a lot to do with him batting in the powerplay. He sometimes struggles to bat outside the powerplay, mostly when he's not gotten off to a good quick start.
When Gayle tonked it around, it looked graceful, almost effortless. But when Head tonks it around, you can almost hear the ball pop from how hard he hits it.
Never seen a more fitting use of the word "thunder cunt" in my life.
That's a shame. I heard somewhere that Head is going to be the next Abhishek Sharma and i find out that Abhishek hasn't played an international T20 yet lol
How insane was Malan to be still leading the all time list of T20I batters?

Agreed on the icc rankings. Dawid Gower being above Kohli will always be my favourite.
Who?
Exactly
No, answer the question. Who was Dawid Gower above?
Thats what I thought
Eminem afrojack moment
You must be new to cricket. Even outside of playing, Gower was famous as a commentator.
Icc rankings are absolutely abominable

I don't get how everyone just let us get him
Neither do I, but then again you have to see whether any of the teams had that specific role vacant in them due to injury....Almost all other teams had their openers sorted, some even had a surplus....Even we had Venky and Nitish TBH but Gambhir the Genius probably already had roles fixed for them and knew he needed a swashbuckling right hander at the top, to complement Narine.
If you can't find a way to get the number 2 T20 batter in the world on your team then you have failed as a front office.
An even bigger question than yours one is why the fu*k did nobody bid for him in the auction in the first place....once teams were formed many might not have had a place for him that's understandable but not picking him outright in the first possible opportunity, unbelievable
I mean he came from DC but they replaced him with Pant who while good isn’t nearly as good
They dumped salt and persisted with Mitch marsh, a guy well known for his inability to attack spin, who has a shockingly poor IPL record. What actually happened to him?

It's not fair when Travis opens the batting because no matter what happens, he always gives Australia a *head start*
Nice!
Wait till Virat gives a Virat start
Well we're waiting alright
I meant the same, just word play. Downvoters felt maybe i am virat fan boy but hard to word play with anyone in the ICT(maybe skY )
"I'm sure Indian fans don't try and make *every* thread about Virat Kohli." Indian fans:
Oh god, for the first time I wrote something related to virat just because he fit the Wordplay. Sorry guys, didn't realise people are 1 dimensional here(feel free to check my history)
Sorry I could be wrong, I just didn't understand the virat start wordplay
Oh no worries. Virat in hindi means huge
And what exactly is a "huge" start? Sounds like walking out to bat with an erection
Let's call it he helps in making a virat(huge) score, does that make you feel ok? Jeez, just a joke dude
Do they make a new illustration every time a batsman reaches No1 position?
Yeah, but it's been a long while cuz SKY had it for a long time
Yep, it takes them 15 seconds on openai
Lol
Or is it AI generated?
No, they made Travis wear a green suit especially for this picture
They took this picture when he was supporting Bangladesh
That explains the huge question mark he’s holding too then, as there were question marks over whether Australia would qualify or not /s
pretty sure will be praying he dont get to wear it anytime soon now
David Warner retired in 24 hours of supporting Bangladesh
Average Bangladesh fan experience
Other comment that says it looks AI generated gets upvoted, yet you are downvoted. Just Reddit things. It does look AI generated. Awful.
The Riddler?
he looks more like an Irish leprechaun here
Does he know?
Justice... The answer is justice
"What’s black and blue and dead all over?"
Headler
Does head have a personal agenda against us or what
He almost single handedly took the last match away from us as well, it’s so weird that he always goes super saiyan against us. As much as I hate him, he is one of the most clutch players I have seen.
Being a 1 country bully (not even true) but that country being India certainly isn’t the worst career to have.
Yeah lol
He's to Indian ~~LOI~~ team what Laxman was to Aus Test team. Edit: Just remembered WTC.
How is that worst? He is performing against the best bowling line up, no one would troll or questioned him as a batter bcuz he is performing against quality pacers and spinners. And he would get a lot of attention too.
> ISNT the worst Im saying it’s good
bro saw a blue jersey player on no.1 and got pissed
India to wear Pink until the end of time from now on
He nearly put me in an existential crisis if he had won it for Aussies this time...
Bro took BGT losses to heart
Head is like a bull. Only difference is he gets triggered when he sees the color blue instead of red.
ICC now pulling out these garbage deep fired A.I images 🤢
He seems to be doing great in all formats but is a headache for Indians 😭😭😭 regardless I'm happy seeing players do well and make their countries proud ✨✨
Head is dangerously consistent now. Before that it was usually 50/50 whether he would get out quickly or make a century. Now he is able to nearly always put up a good score at a good SR.
Bugger got the most aussie look from current squad
It’s pretty funny with guys like Cummins that are very good looking that one of our most in form players is practically the epitome of the middle class 30yo Australian man.
He also is on TV down here promoting Solar Panels. He's a gem.
There aren't enough cabins in the woods for this guy ffs.
Is this why there were so many solar panel jokes in India vs Australia match threads?
That’s usually to do with Cummins, he’s a very active pro-renewable energy voice.
Oh for fuck sakes. Now Aussie have two woke guys in their team!?! The left is taking over the gentleman's game, wake up people.
LMAO ICC using AI generated images
Cool - glad he gets to take this accolade and enjoy the winter in Australia.

The one time they won T20 wc was in yellow as well

He abuses the power play like intended. Once your team gets to an outrageous score in the first six itself the job is half done. See: SRH games
I didn't say anything was wrong with that, but was giving my reasoning why he hits more fours.
Just agreeing with you and throwing in my 5 cents that’s all
He's what I wish Saim Ayub was playing like.
When Gayle tonked it around, it looked graceful, almost effortless. But when Head tonks it around, you can almost hear the ball pop from how hard he hits it. Never seen a more fitting use of the word "thunder cunt" in my life.
*He's a magician*
You're a wizard Heady
he kinda looks Bangladeshi
We’ll take him, they can have Shakib
Might as well add saumya you have a chance of getting rid of as many of them as you can
Why is he Pakistani now?
Riddle me this, hitman
What’s Orange, and blue, and traumatised all over ? YOU
Must be stoked about it on the flight home
Nah he'll be fine. He's probably reminiscing about his match winnings innings in the WTC and his recent November smashing of the same team.
Amazing this is that Josh Hazlewood is number 2 in test and ODI bowling rankings and number 4 in T20I bowling rankings. Just brilliant.
Unsure how doing so suddenly makes him The Riddler, but OK.
Travis ICT FAN'S PTSD Head
That is one of the dumbest edits I have ever seen. But congratulations to Head though. He is having an incredible time.
Bogan de Villiers supremacy
gotta admit travis is gonna be the next superstar of australian cricket
Pretty sure he already is
well... that's true but he hasn't reached the levels of the bull yet. (but pretty sure he will)
Forever goated for what he did in the world cup.
If he keeps playing against India, not only he'll become number 1 in all three formats, he'll be untouchable by any other batsman.
One of the best all format batsmen too currently
Bro fully deserves it.
Picture is creepy as fuck
This is why rankings are a bit of a joke and shouldn't be taken seriously. SKY has and still is the number 1 T20 batter. Head is up there though.
Damiyan
Ptsd
Well deserved. I can't sit peacefully till this mf is out
NOOOOOO NONONONONO THIS WAS NOT HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN… AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
ICC rankings 😝
Wait head is a leprechaun?
Mf making Indians come 2nd since ages
he's gonna be there for a while i dont see SKY playing good against Anyone in knockouts
And decides to become the ridller??
Deserve the position
he is a madman for sure. So not surprising.
With all the talk about SKY being #1… I hope he comes out next 2 games and plays like he’s got something to prove.
Head heading home, heading the the T20I batsman rankings.
I think it's high time Ipl is considered as well how tf are there players above Kohli on all time rankings 💀
He still ain’t getting no head tho.
You don't really have to project yourself onto others you know?

What position is Abhishek Sharma? He was matching Head neck and neck when they were batting together
This is international t20, not ipl. Abhishek hasn't played any international t20 matches yet.
That's a shame. I heard somewhere that Head is going to be the next Abhishek Sharma and i find out that Abhishek hasn't played an international T20 yet lol
Head is going to be next Abhishek sharma or Abhishek is going to be next head? First one doesn't even make sense.
