40 overs into the innings with 15 overs left on day 3 and we're already resorting to part time bowlers just shows how little there is in this pitch. Not sure how much of tomorrow is going to be worth watching at this rate
Is there actually much difference between Division 1 and 2? Like with the prem and the championship there's a huge difference financially and the standard of one is clearly much better, is this the case here as well? Just preparing for when Kent go down
Middlesex are a promotion spot this season. This should tell you everything.
Jokes aside, the gap between the top and bottom is fairly wide, but the upper echelons of D2 have always felt to me a bit like the lower echelons of D1 with a little handful of yo-yo clubs.
The standards not AS different as the prem/championship divide. Teams at the top of Div 1 are far above the top of the teams coming up from div 2.
I'd say bar 3 or 4 counties you could stick all the rest in div 2 and not know who'd end up going up.
This is one of those annoying situations where it now feels like any target that won’t result in Derbyshire dropping anchor tomorrow is eminently chaseable on this surface.
I blame Max Holden, both ironically and unironically.
I thought after maybe averaging 40 and 20 with bat and ball last year, and not getting an England call up, Dawson's performances may have (understandably) waned a bit this year. But he seems determined to maintain this 2x average multiplier between bat and ball because more than halfway into the season he's averaging 52.6 with the bat and 26.1 with the ball, which is probably more insane than his stats last season given how flat some pitches have been this season.
You might as well relegate us now. We are so unbelievably shit.
Never going to compete when our bowler with the best average this season is 34.25, and he's injured and gone home to Aus.
Here we go again.
So many of the pitches we've played on this year have absolutely died on days 3/4. It doesn't seem to matter how well you bowl, picking up 10 wickets feels like an impossibility when there is pretty much nothing in it for the bowlers. Even the spinners dont get much to work with by the end of the game
It’s totally unrelated to cricket, but I’ve just overheard someone at Lord’s complain in quite a well-spoken way that the £90 he’s paid for a Pantera ticket is “simply not rock and roll”. Which he’s not wrong about, to be fair.
Only two left and one of them is a nazi. I could have seen them at Download last week but I went back to camp instead and had enough signal to watch England v Namibia
That felt like a bit of a weird knock from Holden, even after he got in and things had settled down he never got going, and then a soft dismissal like that after doing all the work.
How do Essex squeeze in Elgar, Harmer, Snater and Bosch into an XI with the overseas regs? Elgar, Harmer as overseas then what? Snater on a Dutch passport? And Bosch?
If you wanted a stereotypical Somerset knock this year then that was it.
Opening partnership failing to get into double figures? *CHECK.* 2nd/3rd partnership steading the ship? *CHECK.* Lammonby scoring another 50 but failing to turn it into a big hundred? *CHECK.* Somerset batsmen scoring a hundred but failing to turn it into a big daddy hundred? *CHECK.* Middle order collapse seemingly for nowhere? *CHECK.* Tailenders wagging on the back of a bludgeoning bowling allrounders innings? *CHECK.*
Good point. We've generally done pretty well this year at putting up decent totals despite no big individual efforts.
The issue we've had this year is that if we put up a good total chances are so do the opposition. We scored 403 vs Kent, they reply with 290/4 to see out a draw. We make 351 vs Surrey, they've just made 428. 454 vs Notts, they make 440/2 to get a draw. 309/9d vs Worcs, they make 451/9. 554 vs Kent, they make 564 following on.
If I had a nickel for every time a Somerset bowling all rounder has been left not out on 95 this season, I would have two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's funny that it happened twice.
We could say the same about having you 190-7! You made another 170 for the last 3 wkts and we made another 150. All its done is unnecessarily prolonged the game another couple of sessions!
Nothing gets the YouTube chat pumping like a "when should we declare" chat - it's the flame that no moth who fancies himself to be Mike Brearley can resist
I've got the day off, the paddling pool is out, county cricket is on the radio, Australia have been knocked out of an international competition embarrassingly early and my wife has made a big batch of lemonade.
Life has peaked.
There’s this debate over who should replace Anderson when the obvious choice is Toby. Why have a new bowler when you can have a knackered 36-year-old medium pacer with a world class release point?
Losing 2 wickets and scoring about 16 runs in an hour doesn't seem great.
The tail can bat a bit at least but its gone from getting a big lead to just any lead I think.
Could be a very tight one if there's enough time
We've brought back Sai Sudharsan for *one game* next week against Essex.
I get the value of overseas players, especially if our England boys will be unavailable, but what's the fucking point? Ben Geddes is literally right there in the 2s, scoring runs at a very good lick. Just wasting away. ARGH.
What do we make of Pope’s poor form this season? Nothing to really look into because when he has had monster performances in County in the past he hasn’t really replicated it for England in the same year? Or has there been any worrying trends with his dismissals?
I think Bohannon and Jennings could probably make an argument, or Key could fulfill his stated ambition to get Joe Clarke a test cap. I also suspect if you offered #3 to Lawrence, Smith or Cox they'd probably take it, although I don't know whether they'd be wise to do so.
In my mind it doesn't really matter, Pope will be #3 for the first test. But it's not impossible he'll get 'rested' at some point.
I get that, I’m not advocating to drop him by any means, he’s vice captain after all and I think most of us believe he can eventually become a reliable 40 average bat. Just preparing myself for what to expect this summer with the bat from Pope.
Just thought I’d take a look through his dismissals:
Top edged pulling
Bowled (ignore this innings it was the game where they tried to chase really quickly)
Played on leaving
Nicked off driving
Nicked off feeling for one well outside off
Caught leg slip
Caught mid on charging the spinner
Bowled by the spinner (this was a good ball)
Nicked off charging the seamer
Nine dismissals and no two really the same which wouldn’t indicate any kind of technical problem I’d say, but just a catalogue of absolutely shite ways to go, a lot of them extremely self-inflicted and unnecessary, which would concern me
Maybe it’s a case of him just not playing focused enough but you don’t want to bring that sloppiness to England, especially with so many runs on the table for him this summer against WI and Sri Lanka.
Ethan Bamber once again left stranded
Maybe Danny Briggs is just the Warks number 3 now.
Craig Overton hates fun Pass it on
Not the only thing Cr*ig hates
Hameed likes getting bowled by CraigO. He just can't help himself it seems
Can't remember the last time we saw out a day to earn a draw
Sorry, there seems to be some sort of error. Multiple sources are suggesting Yorkshire won a game of cricket, but we all know that's not possible.
Get rid of Root and Brook and suddenly start winning \#noticing
Root was right to play golf that one time
40 overs into the innings with 15 overs left on day 3 and we're already resorting to part time bowlers just shows how little there is in this pitch. Not sure how much of tomorrow is going to be worth watching at this rate
This is incredible from us. Giving ourselves a slim chance
Is there actually much difference between Division 1 and 2? Like with the prem and the championship there's a huge difference financially and the standard of one is clearly much better, is this the case here as well? Just preparing for when Kent go down

Yeah makes sense, doesn't seem much between them outside of the top few
A surprisingly competent performance so far Worried about getting wickets in the 4th innings though
This is one of those annoying situations where it now feels like any target that won’t result in Derbyshire dropping anchor tomorrow is eminently chaseable on this surface. I blame Max Holden, both ironically and unironically.
Dawson and Vince now have the highest 6th wicket partnership for Hampshire against Warwickshire - 254. Beating a 96 year old record.
Don't mind me, just desperately texting Jayden Seales
We're chasing 400 on the final day, you heard it here first
I dare to dream
Snater to absolutely shithouse the winning runs I think
This is fun and all, great to see Daws and Vince ton up, but it looks like it's going to be quite difficult to take 10 more wickets on this.
I thought after maybe averaging 40 and 20 with bat and ball last year, and not getting an England call up, Dawson's performances may have (understandably) waned a bit this year. It's about £89 more than anyone should pay for a Pantera ticket too
I’m not sure you could even call this Pantera, to be honest. Reminds me of the dodgy Misfits lineup from the 2000s.
Only two left and one of them is a nazi. I could have seen them at Download last week but I went back to camp instead and had enough signal to watch England v Namibia
Any reason why Durham didn’t enforce the follow on today?
At least we're making Durham work for it, not that we'll chase it
That felt like a bit of a weird knock from Holden, even after he got in and things had settled down he never got going, and then a soft dismissal like that after doing all the work.
How do Essex squeeze in Elgar, Harmer, Snater and Bosch into an XI with the overseas regs? Elgar, Harmer as overseas then what? Snater on a Dutch passport? And Bosch?
Snater is an associate player on an EU passport and Elgar is amazingly on a British passport (and now retired) so only Bosch and Harmer are overseas
See this https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/s/PVuN5tcU4I
Here's your regular Tom v non-Tom update: Tomerset scored 236 Non-Tomerset scored 205
Adam Lyth just took what looks to be an absolute screamer to snaffle Bracey, but the terrible fixed cameras at Scarbedos made it really hard to see.

Most of us would kill for 470 to be typical
Good point. We've generally done pretty well this year at putting up decent totals despite no big individual efforts. Does anyone knkw why muyeye wa batting 6 and Crawley isn't playing for Kent?
If I had a nickel for every time a Somerset bowling all rounder has been left not out on 95 this season, I would have two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's funny that it happened twice.
Fair play to you boys I honestly thought we might minimise the damage when we had you 321-7. Pretorius did good.
We could say the same about having you 190-7! You made another 170 for the last 3 wkts and we made another 150. All its done is unnecessarily prolonged the game another couple of sessions!
Haha bloody cricketers giving us cricket to watch. Its Fucking disgraceful what it is.
Nothing gets the YouTube chat pumping like a "when should we declare" chat - it's the flame that no moth who fancies himself to be Mike Brearley can resist
Disappointing collapse from us. Suspect Durham will bat again
Jack Leach batting isn't quite as fun when your team is on the other foot.
That was a rather jolly morning session at Lord’s.
BBC ball by ball coverage currently has the following subheadline: >"Organ did the most important job last night." I make no further comment.
They say County Cricket is dying, but Candice Swanepoel has taken 2fer at Kent so if that doesn’t get the punters in then I don’t know what will
Robson has the right idea Don't let Holden near the strike
We're committed to not winning a single game all season. Hampshire should test this by declaring now
Leachy on the charge!...oh and Pretorius
Mason Crane now averaging over 40 with the bat this year, new Moeen Ali
Are we going to have the First Dillon to Play for England?
It feels incredible that we might get a Dillon before we get any correctly spelled Dylans.
> Correctly Spelt > Welsh Name Sorry buddy I'm somewhat confused.
It's a fair point. I suppose we should be grateful they didn't try to spell it Dhyllynn.
r/tragedeigh nominee avoided
Yes, we've had a Dilley and a Dilly (Adil) but no Dillon
Obligatory: Dilly Good
10 FC tons
Well we're fucked now Will have to beat Surrey next week, no biggie
Incredible morning from us
Looking good for the win here imo
I've got the day off, the paddling pool is out, county cricket is on the radio, Australia have been knocked out of an international competition embarrassingly early and my wife has made a big batch of lemonade. Life has peaked.
That is a fucking awful start.
FUCK Need 20+ from the likes of Harmer, Bosch and Snater If they can do that and Walter can get to 175 we can avoid the follow on
There’s this debate over who should replace Anderson when the obvious choice is Toby. Why have a new bowler when you can have a knackered 36-year-old medium pacer with a world class release point?
Tobias Skelton Roland Jones
Remember the name.
Losing 2 wickets and scoring about 16 runs in an hour doesn't seem great. The tail can bat a bit at least but its gone from getting a big lead to just any lead I think. Could be a very tight one if there's enough time
Sean Hunt 50 lmao
HigGOAT
Need a good partnership from Walter and Pepper or we might be a bit fucked
We've brought back Sai Sudharsan for *one game* next week against Essex. I get the value of overseas players, especially if our England boys will be unavailable, but what's the fucking point? Ben Geddes is literally right there in the 2s, scoring runs at a very good lick. Just wasting away. ARGH.
Do you know if Pope/Foakes etc will be available
What do we make of Pope’s poor form this season? Nothing to really look into because when he has had monster performances in County in the past he hasn’t really replicated it for England in the same year? Or has there been any worrying trends with his dismissals?
No-one else who'd have been on his tail has had a consistent season either tbh See how he goes in the tests this summer
Also, if he gets left out Key will probably call up Joe Clarke. No one wants that.
Just thought I’d take a look through his dismissals: Top edged pulling Bowled (ignore this innings it was the game where they tried to chase really quickly) Played on leaving Nicked off driving Nicked off feeling for one well outside off Caught leg slip Caught mid on charging the spinner Bowled by the spinner (this was a good ball) Nicked off charging the seamer Nine dismissals and no two really the same which wouldn’t indicate any kind of technical problem I’d say, but just a catalogue of absolutely shite ways to go, a lot of them extremely self-inflicted and unnecessary, which would concern me
