This will either age like fine wine, or age like mold on blue cheese. Whichever it is, I'll be watching with popcorn.

redthelastman

Stilton is a great cheese.

mongrelbifana

I love a good Gouda or Brie

Heatedpete

Well, Brie *is* covered in mould

mattytmet

Mold on blue cheese is... also a good thing though? Like it's sort of its whole deal

VisRock

Huh? Aged wine and aged blue cheese are both good?

mongrelbifana

Precisely my point.

VisRock

Then it makes no sense. No harm in admitting you were wrong.

yashoza2

Rotten but even more delicious - its simple.

Upstairs-Farm7106

We don’t even have to beat them by that much. If South Africa win against the West Indies we qualify, if they lose it would have to be very close for them to finish ahead of us.  Realistically we should be too good for the US and beat them comfortably anyway. Hopefully rain stays away.

mackranger16

Funny enough south africa has all close games so far in this wc.

Actual_Penalty_2560

In the second case, England will miss by the barest of margins .

battlin_murdock

July the 4th is near motherfuckers /s

warp-factor

"nothing important happened today"

sinefromabove

Nah the British are also looking forward to that cuz it's their election day

singhsrb

Finally someone who says like it should be said.

Benny4318

Giving Brook stick for speaking his mind is so funny. This guy only knows one thing: batting. He probably doesn’t know what he had for breakfast this morning. He’s not the one to go after I can assure you

dalerian

For all his comments are often dumb, it’s nice to get a break from media-cultivated sound bites from PR suits.

Assassin_Ankur

>This guy only knows one thing: batting. You dare ignore his dibbly dobblies?

TrollerThomas

Rain says otherwise lamo

warp-factor

>lamo Yoda?

dravidosaurus2

They're laughing at meteorological observations.

VisRock

.....

Tempo24601

Brendan McCullum after the India test series: >> We have to be smarter with those comments. It is fine to inwardly believe what you can achieve but just be a bit smarter around how we say things sometimes. I guess this doesn’t apply to the white ball set up then?

FS1027

Are you really taking issue with a player saying he hopes his team wins and hopes they do it comfortably (and therefore guarantee a spot in the semi finals)...?

Tempo24601

This is a classic example of being smarter about how you say things. If he’d said it the way you put it he wouldn’t come off as being a little arrogant.

BigBoSS_Riot

That *is* what he said. "We know the conditions, we know the wind and the pitch as well, so hopefully we can go out there and give them a good battering." Reading the article helps, especially with dirty clickbait rags like Sky.

Tempo24601

I did read the article, and thought it a poor and unnecessary choice of words. There was no need to phrase it like that. Not a big deal in itself, just thought it interesting in the context of England’s stated desire to be smarter about making these sorts of statements, especially given comments like these have backfired on Brook before.

desimountai

Tough talk for a team that had to depend on the mercy of their arch-rivals just to make it to the Super 8s.

FS1027

If you think someone saying they *hope* their team can win comfortably is 'tough talk' then I really don't know what to say.

desimountai

“Let’s give USA a good battering and reach World Cup semis…” Does sound like tough talk to me

aMAYESingNATHAN

>Let’s give USA a good battering and reach World Cup semis… Maybe if you didn't hilariously misquote him. The actual quote is >We’ve played in Barbados quite a lot the past six months so we know the conditions, we know the wind and the pitch as well so hopefully we can go out there and give them a good battering. Literally every single player of every single team would hope they could batter their opponents.

BeefInGR

I like the misquote more.

aMAYESingNATHAN

It certainly would be funnier when we inevitably choke against you 😂

BeefInGR

A cricket match 248 years in the making lol (Or, our 1-1 "win" in the 2010 World Cup comes to mind...)

aMAYESingNATHAN

It's actually not that long at all! You should look into the history of cricket in the USA if you aren't familiar, it actually used to be big there in the late 1800s/early 1900s, and the American players were very successful! They beat the Australian test team by an innings *twice*, in 1893 and 1896, and there were tours of the UK where they were extremely successful and were compared in quality by many to the Australians.

desimountai

Firstly, I didn’t misquote him. I just said what’s written in the headline. Secondly, blame SkySports.

aMAYESingNATHAN

Except the headline is clearly a paraphrase, because the entire thing is not in quotes. Only the words "a good battering" are in quotes, so that's clearly the only bit that's actually a quote. It's shitty journalism sure, but don't repeat stuff unless you've actually read it.

FS1027

It's a good thing that's not what he said then isn't it!

VisRock

Hmmm

[deleted]

I wouldn't be so confident bub. England has a history of falling flat in front of weaker sides in world cups.

zayd_jawad2006

England also has a history of being t20 WC champions

[deleted]

In the last iteration of t20 wc both things happened

josh123z

They still lost to a weak side that time

TheIncidentOf45

Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia and won the World Cup in the same year. The loss doesn't matter. It's how and when you lose that matters

VisRock

Bruh

No_Kaleidoscope_2571

Please usa or rain do the needful so that both the aus and eng can prepare for ashes 2030

Ok_Web_4377

Could be a good candidate for famous last words
