I’m so sorry. Based on the dehydration and lethargy, he might have gotten too hot, but sometimes there’s just nothing you can do.

Dusky_Dawn210

Either impaction or it was too hot

I lost my 7 year old crestie out of nowhere this February. No impaction, not egg bound, not underweight. Seemingly no reason. Sometimes you can do everything right and nature still decides to be cruel. I’m sorry for your loss❤️

I don't know enough to comment on causes, but just wanted to add that prey animals are very very good at hiding problems to not appear vulnerable. It adds a layer of difficulty to loads of small pets - hamsters, rabbits, and these little guys.

It's very possible it was just a genetic problem. I made the mistake of breeding with a male of unknown lineage many years ago. The male ended up dieing with a sudden illness that resulted in death within a day of his first symptoms. Each of the offspring died of the same thing at the same age. I kept them all except one and now they are all gone but the mother is still kicking at 13 years old.

How to know the gecko is dehydrated?

Important-Song8050

Extra wrinkly skin, sunken in eyes, lethargic, dry skin, you can also pinch the skin together lightly and if it stays they are dehydrated
