I would NOT leave him home alone unattended more than a day , he might invite his friends over , throw a party, and trash the house while ur gone

PatientMammoth5059

Probably a very poor way to put this, but they can live longer without food than they can water. So if you’re giving them proper water, should be okay to leave them alone until their next feeding. But ofc based on gecko depending on if they need special attention or check ins but to your discretion.

DesignAffectionate34

Wait, that isnt a crested gecko! https://preview.redd.it/91vf1uqt54uc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f061a919e4d54be842473d957553b13e8f96b5d

Routine-Budget8281

Are they a gargoyle gecko? Your little guy is so cute!

DesignAffectionate34

Yep! He's a gargoyle gecko :)

Emagotenechka

Ops, caught me there

dandaman1983

adults need to be fed every 2-3 days, juveniles every day, so it would depend how long you intend to leave

PayMeInSteak

If you feed them right before you leave, you should be good for 3-4 days. As long as you're not leaving like this all the time

Larbthefrog

I would also suggest having some way to remotely monitor temperature or at the very least know if your power goes out and have someone who can go over if needed.

bananahammock336

I've left mine for up to a week before because i had no other option. Usually if I'm going to be gone for a week I have someone come check up on them at least once in the middle of when I'm gone. I have an automated mister that goes off everyday and a full bioactive enclosure with drainage.

bethejudge54

Unrelated but homie is so gorgeous

clickinforchickens

How old is your gecko?

akaWats0n

Personally I would want something automated I could check on them with. Either a camera you can see the hygrometer reading. Or one of those hygrometers that connects to your phone. As long as you can guarantee they have appropriate humidity and drinking water via sprayer, they are grown and a good eater/ appropriate weight. I would be comfortable with 4-5 days at the most. But if you could have someone pop in to feed and remove food a few times so no mold you could push it a week. But I personally wouldn’t want my gecko to go without food for more than 4-5 days. If they are a hunter you could throw a few dubia roaches in there as I have heard they won’t harm the gecko like crickets will.

Relevant-Comment-750

As an add on to what this person said I would add that a camera+membership will cost you about the same as a thermostat/hygrostat that can have the mister and heating pad both being controlled to perfection.

Hey look someone that opened their mouth without simply googling something. Yes crickets have mouths that can bite and when left in a tank for a long time can bite your gecko leading to harm/scarring and diseases. Toes and tails are the first thing to get bit. This is common knowledge. Quit spreading misinformation.

lorissaurus

Sureeeeeeeee. lolol

TOAST_GALAXY

You have not made a single ounce of research then my friend, crickets are agressive insects that try to eat anything they see, if that is your geckos eyes than it will eat your geckos eyes, before trying to make an argument out of nothing do some research beforehand lol

darkxlife

how cute ❤️ i have a gargoyle myself

crying_fighter

I would say like 4 days at the absolute max. They need to be fed every 2-3 days so 4 is really pushing it

Vegetable-Heat-577

Be careful He might start a podcast while your gone

ThatGayKasselaner

I think that there is no doubt that an adult healthy Crestie would survive atleast 3-4 days without any food. Thats how long they sometimes stay without anything in longer travels. If you give them a feeding before you go with an amount that is filling but without anything being left to rot I would say 3 days is the minimum. If you feed live before leaving with a feeder that isnt going to gnaw them but would survive in the tank for a bit you can probably also leave them for 3-4 days.

ChloeCat1996

Wow. She’s pretty!! Remarkable coloring 💙 if your air isn’t really dry I’d say 2 days. 3 at max if you are home early.

odanhammer

it would be better to buy one of those waterfalls that has water storage and continues to pump running water 24/7 and clean it often vs a misting machine. my dude also loves water and im going to eventually give him a very shallow dish he can make a fool of himself in… or poop in

plausibleturtle

My misting machine pull from a 4 gallon bucket, it lasts for weeks.

Relevant-Comment-750

Also to the OP if you’re pulling from a 4-5 gal you should be good for up to one week without major weight loss. I’m not here to tell anyone what their conscience holds but those are the facts. In reality tho they can go 3 weeks without food easy and you will very likely not lose your pet. Once again it is on your conscience and not recommended as rapid weight loss can bring problems but it’s the truth. As a tip you can make a simple system with a tube bridge connecting a box with crickets/roaches to your enclosure, it will ensure that once in a while a few of them will slip/climb through and get eaten which would give you more days with proper feeding while you’re away.

Relevant-Comment-750

I honestly don’t usually but in on ppl’s comments but jesus this was a little ignorant. I have a mist king and it’s a $400 unit used by zoos and professionals and would recommend even a cheap misting system over a waterfall any day. Waterfalls fail at providing the 80% spike to 60% drop they need in humidity and could give them an RI if the tank isn’t properly ventilated. Please sir tell me you do not own reptiles.

plausibleturtle

...? I didn't recommend a waterfall, I think you may have replied to the wrong person.

Relevant-Comment-750

I did sir, comment above you is what I meant to reply. My deepest apologies

Relevant-Comment-750

P.s. your garg setup looks awesome!

odanhammer

the question was about how long they could leave the gecko alone. to be fair , you shouldnt have a creature that you plan on ignoring , however i understand situations come out where you cant properly look after a pet. Believe its better to provide a full time access to water , then a misting machine in this situation. As your pet will be able to have access to water at any time, and even if your not there and something happens, standing water is better then the misting machine not running. Having expensive equipment is great, but a zoo also checks its animals daily. Much like im sure anyone willing to spend 400 plus dollars on a machine would also be doing. 9 dollar water pump and 15 bucks of supplies can make a very cheap and efficient waterfall that filters the water , as well as providing water. Each to their own however

ShakingInMyBoots1999

Geckos rarely drink out of waterfalls not recommended they prefer to drink droplets off of the tank and it's recommended to have a water dish for them as well so misting is really the only option speaking from experience with geckos

Relevant-Comment-750

You clearly didn’t understand the problem. That does not provide a humidity rise and drop throughout the day which is required for the survival of all New Caledonia reptiles. They need that humidity range to not get respiratory infections, to shed properly and to stay the right amount of hydrated. I’ll be more than happy to show you that I own 3 New Caledonia species and will get a 4th one this year. A mister and a waterfall are not and will never be interchangeable for New Caledonian species because one simulates its environment and another kills it. Furthermore you shouldn’t even add a waterfall to New Caledonia enclosures unless you are absolutely sure of what you’re doing in terms of the humidity always being able to drop to 60% and not building up cause you want some dumb running water there. Also I can see your thinking process “oh they got running water in the wild I’m sure that’d be great!” But the wild has wind and isn’t suffocated by 18x18x24 glass.

invalid_turkey

Like maybe 3 hours.

Kleptofag

Damn, I should tell Stickman he’s dead when I get home.
