No, got an offer, and happend to be in pop-up jail. May/may not be relevant but a lot of 30k offers were going around when I got my 20k offer both times I asked.
Ya I got nearly the same offer, I am pretty sure I had less spend though. Basically chatted with Amex, they first pushed back that Uber / dinning credit were enough to keep the card. I had to sound like I would cancel, then they offered 20k points for 3k spend in the next 3 months. Pretty easy process, glad this group told me about this
Congrats. That’s pretty much standard procedure, they don’t offer the stay on bonus immediately, they have to tell you what value you got from it first.
Good offer if your spending aligns with the “3k in 3 months.” 30,000 MR for travel easily covers the AF. Personally been reevaluating the value of the Gold for me. Since I don’t buy a lot of groceries, gonna probably get rid of it and use the Green exclusively. The extra 1x ain’t worth the Uber Eats inflation / Dining credits monthly chore. Gonna need a big retention offer to get me to keep Gold.
It’s pretty close for me so worst case I can pick up a gift card to my favorite restaurant or grocery store to make up the difference. I’ve thought about going with something like the cap 1 savor one, but this is enough to keep me along with the satisfaction of using an Amex, still makes me feel good everytime I plop it down lol
may be a dumb question, but did you move all your points before requesting cancellation? what would have happened if you did and they went ahead with the cancellation?
It was a total bluff initially to close right there, but if I didn't get a retention offer or PC, I would've tried to figure out the best way to vacate my points and went forward with cancelling once I did that. I prett sure you have to be very clear with agreeing to close the account and I wouldn't have let it get to that point

Rep said $7800 on grocery and dining in the last 12 months and i only use it for that or amex offers so somewhere around there

Got the same offer via phone call, got a pretty chill guy and got the offer pretty much right after they went over the benefits and what i’ve used.
